All my music player apps freeze after the song I select finishes. - Epic 4G General

I'm having a problem playing my music. Any application I use to play my music will only play the first song I select, but as soon as that song finishes, the entire application freezes and the only way I can close it is by using the task manager. Even if I try skipping the song mid-way, the application freezes. Anyone else experience/d this? Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm running on Froyo 2.2.1 DK28, ROM: AhmgskMod TrulyEpic V2.06.12.10

You deleted those 3 or so DRM APKs didn't you? My phone was always having this problem right after I flashed a new rom and I think I literally JUST found out what was causing it because my phone was doing it again after updating to DK28. Usually I go thru and delete all those APKs that I don't need and then set up my apps and I would havethe same exact problem as you describe weather I'm using the stock music app or mixzing or anything else. But now what I did was restore those 3 DRM APKs that I always delete first, rebooted, then sure enough I was able to skip forward without anything freezing. Then I went thru and deleted those three APKs again and then rebooted and I was still able to skip forward and back no problem.
So what I'm sayin I that I think you first need to play some music in the player or anything BEFORE you go and delete all those DRM related APKs otherwise you will run into this problem.

Ya. I did delete this apks. What do you reccomend I do? Can I just restore them now and then reboot my phone or do I have to completely re flash, play some music and then delete those apks?

Just try what I did and hopefuly it will fix it, I'm interested to see I it does fix it for you. Hopefully you made backups of all those DRM APKs that you had deleted, just restore them, reboot, play some music and see if it still freezes when you try to skip ahead, if it works then delete those APKs again, reboot and see if it still plays without freezing. That worked for me.
I might add that I deleted one APK at a time and rebooted after each delete because I was curious to see which one was causing the freezing but after each delete my music player still played fine. So I'm sure you can delete them all at once and still be fine

What I did was restore them (I had back ups), reboot the phone, then played a few songs (the music players were all working again, so the problem had to do with the drm apks), deleted the apks and then rebooted the phone again. Everything works fine now! Thanks a lot for the help

Glad to hear that fixed it for you as well. So then I must be right that you need to play some music or media files first before deleting those DRM APKs otherwise you will run into this issue. Maybe this is also the reason that my home encoded .mp4's that worked on my epic stock when I first got it would not play in the video player after messing around with deleting that stuff first, I will have to see when I get home from work.

I have attached the only DRM apk I have on my phone. I have never had any trouble with any music player.

mediascape not playing some files

I recently noticed that some mp3 files dont play in mediascape. The error message goes "Could not play the file. File can be deleted." Any ideas on why it does it to only some files? I made sure they dont have any weird symbols in them.
Maybe you moved them or renamed it?

First question: Do they play in other players on the phone?
Section question: Have you deleted them and re-copied them to the phone? It's possible that the files were corrupted during copy, or if the phone wasn't ejected properly from your computer.
No these are files i just copied them fresh into the phone... its weird because some of them seem to be working and a select few are not... I did not rename them either.
I did try downloading a few players from the market place and none of them played the songs that werent being played in mediascape. They did play fine in my palm pre though... any thoughts?
Hmm.. just delete them and recopy. Sounds like corrupted data. If that doesn't work, use a program on your PC to change the bitrate or file type (mp3 to aac).
hey
dont delete anything.
i used to have a problem by playing all media files only for 30 seconds. i tried everything, i used a lot of media apps, restart 10 times my fone.
eventually i decided to pull out my memory card and inserted it back. problem sovled.
try to remove your memory card and slide it back in. should be working fine.
let me know if that solved the issue

Stopping DRM without losing audio capabilities

It seems that deleting both DRM files via SDX App Remover is causing various issues with audio. When I deleted both files it would cause my music player to crash, my Ringdroid app not to play and my settings menu to freeze if I tried to change my ringtone to a custom one. I found that stopping DRM using Startup Auditor and then deleting the SisoDRM file but leaving the DrmUA file leaves audio functions intact while disabling the service from running in the background.

Great information, I had the same thing happen back when I tried. Hopefully this can be baked into some ROMs.
Totally, thx for extra info about deleting the 1 apk. Start up auditor wouldn't kill it for me.. I just set up a shortcut to the native running services manager, and kill it when I boot up. If you're curious to see a logcat of what's happening when drm is removed, and audio crashes, search this general forum for drm, and you should see a thread I started, trying to figure this out. (it's basically posts of me talking to myself and going insane).

Dude, I can't thank you enough for pointing this out. I was going NUTS trying to figure out why my phone would lock up when trying to change to a custom ringtone. And no matter what music app I would try, the phone would start playing one MP3, then when I would try to play the next track, phone would lock up again.
I started suspecting that it was caused by my going in with SDX and deleting the DrmUA and SisoDRM files. My suspicion was confirmed when on a fresh ROM install, I decided to leave those files alone and MP3's and ringtones were all good. But I was bummed that I had to trade-up that functionality for some battery life. I can't wait to try out the solution you've posted here. Thank you for sharing!
I have no audio issues and have simply frozen all DRM files. As long as they are still on your phone then they won't mess anything up.

Music not updating in player

Just recently, new music I put on my card isn't updating in the player. I use PlayerPro, but I've checked with the stock music app (Rubix 2.0), MixZing, and a couple others. All other music still shows up fine.
I've tried rebooting, pulling the card, and running the sdrescan app. I can see the files using Astro.
Thanks.
Try rebooting your phone. I had something like this before and the next day, after I had turned off my phone and turned it back on, it was there

Anyone else?
see if the player has an option in settings that will guide the app to your music folder and refresh.
I had this problem, and my only solution was to get apps with that option.

[Q] replacing music app

hi guys im using onecosmicsICS port rc3 at the moment, ive noticed there is a RC4 available, but it uses AOSP music instead of google music, (RC3 used google music), i was wondering if anyone could give me a detailed 'idiots guide' to completely removing AOSP music player and then replacing it with google music player, so that only google music player would appear in the app drawer.
thanks in advance

I had the same concern after flashing my phone ICSSGS RC4.2, I liked the Google Music Player more than the AOSP Music. Well this is what I did to get it back. First I cleared the cache of the AOSP Music in the RC4.2 then I clicked on Disable, You might get a warning pop-up you can ignore it. Then I Googled for ICS Music player and found a link then downloaded the apk file and installed it. I felt really happy to get the Google Music back but I had few issues with it. The player was too laggy and it took ages to load the Album Arts. So I uninstalled it and installed Market Enabler from the market and selected the country as USA AT&T. Then I opened the Market and Searched for Google Music, then I installed it from the Market. This version works flawlessly and it is the same as what was in the RC3.1. If you are in US or any other country which already has Google Music support then there is no need for you to install the Market Enabler. Just try searching for Google Music in Market first. Cheers...!!!
You should easily be able to replace the music player by doing the following:
Get Root Explorer from the Market.
When installed, open it and go there where the new music.apk is
(long press it and chose either copy or move)
Now scroll up to the top and chose "previous folder" until you're in the first possible.
Look for folder system and open it.
Look for folder app and open it.
First of all hit the button "Mount R/W" on top so that you can delete or add files in this folder.
Scroll down til you found the old music.apk, long press it and delete it.
Now just hit the "insert" button on the bottom and it'll put the new music.apk which you chose "copy or move" before into the app folder.
Restart your phone for the new apk to be shown in app drawer.
Just one more thing. In system/app don't delete or edit any other files than music.apk or else may your phone doesn't work right anymore

did you recently do a backup? back in the day if i made a backup i would see the backup images in google play also ,, of course none played as they were just backups, if this is the case find the folder location of said backup and put the .nomedia file in the folder so the media scanner doesn't include in track listings
I don't have the songs anywhere else, they're just in the music folder
This happened to me too, I was using PowerAmp and Play Music. just deleted the cachè of both and restarted my nexus and it was solved. You should first do a ReScan of your library in your music player, then erase cache if it didn't fix the problem, and finally o another rescan.
