[SOLVED]can't press start menu soft key 6.5 build - Windows Mobile

Alright, so I'm trying to build a winmo 6.5 build to compliment my 6.5.x release, but I'm running into fundamental problems.
Foremost is the fact that I can't tap the start menu soft key. All it does is bring up notification manager :/
Sense 2019 also doesn't display quicklinks.
Aside from that... I think everything looks OK. Those are kind of big issues though lol
Thanks
Regards
Smith
Edit: Solved.
Ended up being notification enhancement. I downgraded from 2018 to 2016 and now it works perfectly, the start button that is.
I fixed the quicklinks in sense on accident honestly, I'm not sure what did it. But they're working again now as well.

Quicklink People problem

Hi,
I have installed all the latest HTC fixes and using shipped rom 1.48.488.1 (71294) WWE.
It appears after installing the last posted fix by HTC on 14th Jan (SMS fix) I am getting the following problem:
On the home screen, when I press the bottom icon for the quicklink to my favourite contacts it causes the HTC sense to launch again and return to the home screen. It does this every time.
Any comments? Hard reset?
Thanks

It's not normal behaviour, as mine works as you'd expect, with the same ROM and the SMS hotfix from last week.
Is it just with one contact or all of them? Have you tried removing and then re-adding any contacts to see if that helps?
Thanks for the reply.
Once I have pressed the quicklink to my favorite contacts I can not activate any of the softkeys and the screen doesnt respond. I can see my contacts breifly but touching the contact or scrolling the page up. The screen changes to my lock screen wallpaper and the words 'launching HTC sense' appears.
Sounds like bad news.....

Sounds like Sense has crashed. Does the people tab work okay? That may be the best temporary workround.
Arrrgh, thats screwed too.
Would installing the last SMS fix be worth a try or you think the damage is deeper than that?

It sounds like something's shafted something. Have you installed any contacts related software at all?
I've got all the hotfixes, and nothing has caused this issue for me. I'd also imagine it wouldn't fix it either, as the hotfixes are for specific issues.
No mods or additional software on mine.
Sounds like it needs a hard reset. well I had nothing planned tonight anyway.
Thanks for the support.

No worries mate. Hard reset was all I had left to suggest too. Fingers crossed the issue doesn't reappear!
Good luck

Why I think 6.5.5 is stupid on a HD2

Just airing my views for some reason on here.
I don't understand why people put a 6.5.5 rom on their HD2. I have tried it for a few days and immediately flashed back to a 6.5 rom.
1) Its pointless having the start menu icon at the bottom of the screen when we already have a hard key start menu button at the bottom of the phone.
2) The sofkey buttons are big and horrible and make everything look unbalanced.
3) I could understand flashing a 6.5.5 rom to a phone with a smaller screen because of the finger friendly interface, but its not needed on the HUGE HD2 screen. I have never had any problems touching any button on a 6.5 rom.
5) A lot of the text is truncated in the soft key buttons and in other menus making the UI look unfinished and unattractive.
6) By making the rows of menus more spaced out to make it finger friendly, the UI suddenly becomes more unattrative and more scrolling is required. All too big and spaced out.

I like it. I have big hands, and now with 6.5.5 it's even easier to use (for me).
What about 4?

TOTALLY agree! 1000%
Disagree 1000000%
Looks much nicer at the bottom, its not too big, top menu looks sleaker, I never use the start button on the device. Everything else looks nicer. MP3s work on alarms.
Its basically the same as 6.5 but with improvements, so thats why I dont think its stupid to have it.
The standard theme is ugly, but there are loads of really good looking themes, next you'll be saying the scroll bar on sense is too big on the HD2.
I agree 100% With the o.p.
6.5.5 makes manilla looks like a kludge at best and the little it does improve is out weghed by complications it adds to many apps. not to mention the waste of screen space. i think they should have just increased the size of the taskbar slightly.
I agree too. I had it for just over a day and rather than getting used to it, I found it fuglier by the minute! I'd rather 6.1 than 6.5.5.

lol - you're pulling someone up about counting? I think spelling's quite important too
as i said in another thread, the photon build of windows mobile 7 would be an interesting experience on an HD2
Couldn't agree more. I find the buttons on the bottem terrible. To big, no advantages and they really mess up the balance of your screen.
Agree, specially the unnecessary big buttons at the bottom..
I like the buttons on the bottom, just change the theme. Square and shiney goes along way.
oops yes I forgot 4. Silly me.
I really perhaps (with my arm twisted) see the benefit on a SMALLER screen but with the HUGE screen of the LEO, there is just no need to make finger friendly with big ugly buttons and other enlarged aspects.
Yes you can make the buttons vanish but the text is still truncated in aspects and the whole screen looks bottom heavy too.
for some people 4 is just simply unlucky... anyway. call me heretic if You want, but for me 6.5 on leo is just perfect. best of both past and present of winmo. sense on top of it powered with cookie's tab and john's editor makes it even more sweet and usefull.
see... nowadays I just visit these forums only to read what's going on. I've stopped tweaking it (my leo) as it is great now.
I can't disagree enough..
for me 6.5.5 is what an operating system should be..
there are some things that need a bit of tweaking, but it's still very much work in progress.
As to the bottom buttons, you can easily get rid of the start and X (either or both ) very very easily..
otherwise it works perfectly for me

Agree. Only flashed 6.5.5 once, didnt like the look. It looked a bit messy in the home screen and also had some problems with some apps. Flashed back to 6.5. Nice and easy......"simples"
I like what the stock theme on the touch hd mini has done with the 6.5.3 start button, I would just like to see something official to see what the htc sense guys have done with it, seeing as they don't get to play with 7 either.
what is so special about the 6.5.3 start menu. any videos or images?

Home and back buttons adjust volume...? on Hyperdroid w/ Energy ROM

For some reason it has become very difficult to back out of a screen due to the fact that the back arrow key/button raises the volume while the home key lowers the volume while at the same time going to the home screen. Energy w/ froyo was working fine, but energy aug 28th w/ Hyperdroid results in this. I will try ChuckyRom to see if it changes anything.
I'm have same problem, but with ChuckyDroid 30/07

O may whatever god you believe in bless you child...I thought i was the only one having issues...
do your button lights stay on too?
I don't know what exactly the problem, but yesterday I reinstalled twice different ROMs , but the keys don't work correctly, the strangest thing that the keys work properly only with android from Xcelsior and I really want to make them work in FroyoStone Sense.
In my opinion it is not independent, but affect the Windows. Try to create hard reset and please tell me if you can help.

That's the thing, i have no button assigning programs. regardless what rom i am using (miri, energy...) i have the exact problem.. Could it be hardware related---or is it a straight software issue? When pressing home (on a regular winmo rom), the dialer pops up. On android, home causes the screen to go home but at the same time lower the volume. Quite frustrating.

seems like a hardware issue, if thats the case. (same behavior regardless of ROM)
Best to try have it replaced if you can.

I think I almost understood the reason and the essence of the problem,
I begin to work normally buttons, but for a short time.
1.run program "task 29" and completely clean rom mamory
2.install any rom, but better than standard
on android:
1.android necessarily be from desare, and not from Nexus.
2. system partition must be made in a 32 bit system ubuntu
3. kernel and preloading does not matter, only file (archive) system.ext2

Really really really strange screen problem

I've searched everywhere and haven't come across anyone with similar problems. When I boot up, everything is working fine, can see the big beautiful clock and use the touchflo slider at the bottom. After a few minutes, the screen just freezes at whatever screen it was on last. Touch interface doesn't work at all. Only when I click the start menu hard button and bring up the start menu does the touch screen work again. The thing is, I can't go back to the home screen again. I can only use the phone's functions from the start menu, which is very annoying. Also, when I launch an application, everything is fine, but when I exit it, the screen remains at whatever it was showing at the last view. Again, have to click to the start menu hard button to bring up any functionality and never see the home screen again.
Anyone know whats wrong?
Also: Using Miri v24, Radio 2.15.
I had a similar problem with Miri v24. I gave up in the end and installed Arthemis ROM instead. Works fine now.
Out of curiosity, are you using CHT?
Sounds like somethings causing Sense/Manila to crash.......
Try uninstalling CHT (if your using it)
Or hard reset.....
If you can still use the start menu then its not a "screen problem"....
it sounds like a software problem that should be sorted by a hard reset..
hope that helps

Nope. Fresh install of Miri with nothing added. I'll try Arthemis and see how it goes. Thanks!

[Q] How to get an app menu button on Android

I've installed CyanogenMod 7 on my HD2 but having trouble
to get an app menu key. I thought it would be the windows key
but it just exits the application to the main menu.
For example in contacts - I need to press the menu key to see the application
menu - without the menu button it is not much use.
I tried to remap the keys but the only key that I can use would be the back key.
But this would mean i loose the back key which is not desirable too.
I'm not sure if I miss anything but appreciate if anybody could point me into the right direction.
thanks
HJ
It is the Windows key.
Sent from my HTC HD2 überphone
does your Windows key work properly under WM? if so, and if in Android you get exit after pressing the windows (central) key, sth is wrong with your build, maybe consider either updating or switching to other,
as temporary solution enable Tablet Tweaks in Settings / CM settings (it should be there), it'll give you an option to have virtual home, menu and back keys on status bar
I had no problems under WM. I'm running the ThphooN_v3.3.8MAGLDR upgrading from the 3.3 version. I already had that problem in the 3.3 version.
That tablet tweak as mention is not available but would be a great workaround.
thanks
u can use button savior (from market) to replace the hardware keys ...it might be helpful
I've installed Button Savior - great it gives me the work around.
Not sure if I should install a different built seems to be a single device problem if nobody else reported this.
My HD2 is an O2 version.
thanks anyway I can survive
