Try installing audio manager from market and turn up system volume,... not sure where to find the system volume in phone settings but audio manager is good.

How'd you fix it?
(never mind) ... Why was it low in the first place?

Mine does this toodame happens to lock/unlock sound. I think it routes the sound to the call speaker instead of the rear speaker

Now that you mention it, I have the same. All my volume settings are set to Full and in sound options, I have selected to have sounds fr dial pad and for touch screen and for lock/unlock. I don't think they are redirected to call speaker because I don't hear sound there either.
Anyone found a solution without installing 3rd party app?

Ok, looked deeper into it and discovered that actually the only solution is the audio manager. It seems to be a must have as Android misses critical volume settings on its interface. That application is the only way to allow you to adjust the volume.
That's no excuse for HTC, Google or whoever is responsible for the Android OS or DHD. (really, who is responsible? I never thought that)

Going to give it a try myself as well.
Chefs, is there something that can be done on your end?

I use Sound Manager for this issue...happened to me twice already...

Other applications are responsible for this.
I too had faced this problem and suddenly the tones of dial pad were gone on my htc desire, it was only vibrating. The settings of Sound were all fine, still no tone. So being a tester I am, I backtracked and remembered what all I did.
It turned out when we install applications in Android we give them access to core functionalities of system. I had used Fring application prior in the day, where I had used Fring's Dialer pad. I logged into fring again went to dialer pad, increased volume and indicator said "Volume" unlike any other indicator of volume in HTC Desire. After increasing the volume, I logged out and went to phone dialer again, and tones were back. So our applications are responsible for turning down volume. A centralized application which controls all application can come in handy and there are few in android market available.
Hope this helped

I have deleted some apps from my phone following this problem but seemed to make no difference... today however the volume on dialer has returned to normal??? But also the noises on the qwerty pad now sound like an old fashioned typewriter??? My 4 yr old was messing with phone earlier but checked settings I can think of and nothing has changed... confused!

yea i got the same problem tried emailing HTC they dont know anything about it they just replied with
Kindly go to Menu>settings>sounds>check:
audible touch screen
audible selections
screen lock sounds
:/
thanx for XDA or i would've never sort it out

The sound has gone...like completely

Hey everyone this is my first post so i apologise if this problem has been discussed at length already.
Ok so my current problem is that my htc hd2 wont make any sound whatsoever when using the rear speaker (so thats any ringing from incoming calls, notifications, videos, music etc..). I have played with the sound settings relentlessly but can't seem to change its current state and I have also done several hard resets. However, when accepting a phone call or when a pair of headphones are inserted into the handset the sound goes through fine, leading me to suspect that it is the rear speaker which is the problem (My speakerphone after accepting a call also doesnt work).
On two occasions I have been playing music on it in hopes for a sign of life and have had sound on very sharp bursts (no more then 2 seconds). In terms of any programs or updates that I have installed on to my handset I havent done anything but apply the updates from the HTC support website.
The problem ocurred on day 2 of using this handset and I have also sent an email to mobiles.co.uk to ask about a replacement handset. However I was having a lot of fun with this phone and wanted to keep it if it could be solved myself so if anybody has any ideas it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks
Try a hard reset. If the problem persists after that, it's certainly hardware related.
Same thing happened to my HD2 today, all sounds just stopped working for some reason, music player ring tone, notifications, everything, did a hard reset and everything works again, it is a bit worrying when it just happened out of the blue like that.

Did you accidentally turn the volume down using the button on the side of the device? Stupidly, system volume can be adjusted using this button.

Yes it can. It either changes both system and ringtone together (if you only use 1), or you have a tab for both (if you use both volumes), as per the sound and display settings in the settings tab.
No, that was the first thing that I checked, I have the single volume unchecked as well.

I find the single volume the better option, less chance of this kind of thing happening. Other than that, it sounds like you have either installed a tweak or combination of tweaks which are not compatible or you have a hardware fault.

[Q] HELP: Speak Incoming CallerID

First post, please be kind... and thanks to everyone on this forum for all the support!
Is there anyway to get incoming calls to "Speak incoming CallerID + Ring"? I use to have this option on my Verizon Phone but the EPIC only has an option to Speak incoming callerID or RING only. When I get an incoming call, I would like the phone to speak the callerID once then play the ringtone.
Settings -->Text-to-speech-->Speak incoming CallerID
Search for saymyname in the market
I tried that app and it was very buggy. Very inconsistent, caused ringtone to stop working, would not work properly. Uninstalled.
Any other apps out there?

I have a related problem.
When using this feature, if BT is connected, it routes the audio to the BT device, and doesn't "speak" via the internal speaker.
Unlike the ringer, which (correctly) rings ringtone through speaker, BT gets the stock ring sound built-in to the BT device. That's the way it's supposed to work.
Turn on the spoken caller-id with BT and the only way you know you have a call is if you are listening to your BT device (headset, in this case). I refuse to be one of those dweebs that walks around with my BT headset in my ear when I'm not talking on the phone.
Anyone know how to have this play through the speaker with BT connected?

That app is working perfectly on my Epic. I've even got it tweaked so that it says the name in between each ring. Maybe you didn't get into the settings enough. I had it on my EVO before the Epic and it worked well on it too.

Actually I did play with all the settings for about 2 days until I realized my phone randomly stopped playing ringtones and settings were changed to "silent" on its own. From the reviews, it seems that the updated software is more buggy than the previous versions.
I just wish our phone had an option to speak CallerID name + Ring. The DroidX has it by default.

My grandmother used to say "wish in one hand and poop in the other and see which one fills up first" God rest her soul...
I have seen saymyname change the ringer to silent before. All I did to fix it was change the ringer back to what it was previously in the phone's settings.
So far I've ben using Talking Caller ID and its been working okay except options are very limited unless paid version. But at least it seems very stable.

phone keypad sound volume....

Hi
Can anyone help?
This is annoying more than stopping me using the phone but when i want to make a phone call the noises of the tone dialing when you press a number are very very faint, have to hold it to my ear to hear it, it wasnt like this yesterday??????
Have checked all the sound settings and volume and they are all high/max but still no joy, spoken to HTC who I could not understand, sounded spanish and he could not do it either...
Keypad volume is linked to the media volume, turn the media volume up in the sound settings and you should be good.
Already done that..... its on max and phone button noise is barely audible....
Just noticed its not just the dialing tones its also the little tick noise you get when you press any icon on the screen, thats quiet too
Have you dropped your phone over night? Is it running stock?
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
My phone is standard.... has a few apps etc but thats it.
I did drop it a few weeks ago, no visible damage, but im quite sure the dialer noise and click when you tap the screen has just happened.... its not gone its just very very quiet... tried ticking the button to switch it on and off and that has not done anything either, HTC said they didnt know but to do a hard reset
Have you used the fm radio? Sounds odd but I used it once on either the desire or desire hd and when the volume on that was down so was the system volume. Stab in the dark
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
Ive never used the radio on this phone, i even removed the otter box case to see if that was muffling the noise and its not.... looks like a hard reset then!
Gutted mate, let us know if the reset works.

its a small bub install a free app volume ace and when u open it u'll see a system volume slider.... jst slide up...and here u go...full vol as before...
What do you mean about "its a small bub..."
I will try and find the app, thanks for the info
Just download an app called Quick Settings and adjust the System Volume to max and you can hear the screen taps and other sounds. I had this problem and that app solved it.
I don't know how but I've suddenly got the keypad sounds back at correct volume on phone dialer.. but strangely my qwerty keypad noises have not only returned but now sounds like an old fashioned type writer??? My 4 yr old was messing with it earlier, but I've checked all settings and they haven't changed..
I had the same problem thanks for recommending the app its worked perfectly Your my hero lol Seriously though thanks.
Thanks a lot mate !! Volume Ace is AWESOME \m/ Solved all my problems

Thank you, I had the same problem the OP had. Downloaded volume ace now and my system volume was turned right down.

Ringer Volume starts off low.

I have noticed that when I get an incoming call the ringing volume starts off low and then after the 1st or 2nd ring it jumps up to full volume (or the volume I have set it to). It's like as if the ringing volume has been set to ascending.
I have tried it with different ringtones but it's always the same result.
It is a little annoying and I'm not sure if its a bug or not as I can't seem to find anything in the settings to adjust this.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, were you able to correct or change it?
Thanks.
I do not have this problem.
But i use one of the preinstalled ringtones.
Maybe it has something to do with it.
But i looked in the settings and did not find any options regarding the increasing volume (know that option from my old w850i sony ericsson)
I have tried it with the preinstalled ringtones as well but I still get the same problem.
Yeah my old nokia's used to have an option for ascending ringtone but I can't find anything like that. Might have to do a factory reset and see if that fixes anything.
You know what?
I've got the same problem.
had a ringtone that got kinds louder in the first 2 seconds so i did not hear that the volume was increasing.(had pegasus)
But with another ringtone i can hear that increasing volume too.
weird :S
Same here.

Have any of you lot downloaded additional ringtones from 3rd party apps like zedge?
I'm wondering they could've caused it, cos it definitely seems like a software issue as oppose to a hardware issue.
I'm going to do a factory reset on my phone and wipe it completely and see what happens.
I posted this a while back, but the Mods kept moving it to Q&A. We need the phone.apk modified so the increasing ringer effect is removed. This is stock behavior with all Samsung phones, including the SGS.

So are you saying that this is normal behaviour? and that everyone's SGS2 will have this issue?
I just did a full wipe and factory reset and it didn't resolve anything
My S2 act the same, i've uploaded the song from kies.
It's a bit annoying.
Okay I think that cmd512 was right, it seems to be a feature of samsung phones, one which apparently we can't change without rooting the device. Looks like I wiped my phone for no reason, great!!
Here's some other links I've found regarding this issue on the original SGS...

Can other users just confirm if their device acts in the same way or not? Thanks.
I noticed this my 1st call or so (3 weeks ago). I assume this is done by Samsung purposely to give users a chance to silence the ringer before it disturbs something/someone (meeting, conference, library, etc.)
If you check motion in Settings, you will see that there is an option to articles silence sounds by turning the phone over. I assume the ringer starts low, then increases to allow the users time to silence the phone before reaching max volume.

Yeah I thought it might be something like that too but you'd think samsung would at least put an option in the settings to let the user choose if they wanted it or not ... or even put a note about it somewhere so people like me wouldn't think its a problem with their phone and format their device for no reason lol
This is absolutely normal, was the same on the SGS. The only way is to decompile phone.apk and change one of the settings. If you search "non-increasing ringer phone.apk" for the SGS, you will see tons of posts with this file. Once you push the new phone.apk over, it will get rid of the increasing ringer effect.
Unfortunately, when I tried to decompile phone.apk, I got errors. If I can get a deodexed version of phone.apk from KE7, I can modify it accordingly.
'Feature'
Confirmed - It is standard stock behavior and I hate it.. lol.
Coming from the captivate where I ran i900 modded roms they would have ascending ringers until some dev modded it to not..
having the same problem here
+1 10 characters.
there's a mod in dev section, check it out

Disable Increasing Ring is the best app that can fix Ringer Volume starts off low issue

Found an annoyance today .. LOUD touchtones while using speakerphone!!

While on a tech support call today I place the GN2 on the desk and used speaker phone. It works great, but when having to make in call menu selections using the keypad the touchtones are VERY LOUD !!!!! I have turned off all key tones that I can find , but no success. Any fixes?

These are called DTMF tones, they're standard sounds used by touch tone phones to broadcast menu choices to phone systems like the one you called (among other things - they are also used for dialing). If you turned them off then you wouldn't be able to navigate through those menus. The only advice I can give you is to turn your call volume down while you're making selections so they're not so loud.
