Here's how I did it, hope it works for you. LOTS OF STEPS BUT THEY ARE EASY TO FOLLOW, I HOPE.
1- DOWNLOAD:
<- adb need not be previously setup
2- AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD THE FILE, MAKE A FOLDER IN YOUR DESKTOP AND CALL IT "ROOT" OR ANY NAME YOU WANT. NOW OPEN THE FILE YOU DOWNLOADED AND COPY THE FILES TO THE FOLDER YOU JUST MADE.
3- CLICK LINK OR COPY AND PASTE IT TO YOUR ADDRESS BAR.
ONCE DOWNLOADED OPEN IT AND COPY THE FILE THAT'S IN THERE.
NOW GO TO THE "ROOT" FOLDER YOU MADE ON YOUR DESKTOP AND PASTE IT THERE. IT WILL ASK IF YOU WANT TO REPLACE IT, SAY YES.
4- GO TO YOUR PHONE AND CLICK ON SETTINGS/APPLICATIONS/ DEVELOPEMENT/USB DEBUGGING, PUT A CHECK MARK ON THERE.
WHEN YOU CONNECT TO YOUR PC MAKE SURE THE USB CABLE IS SET TO "CHARGE ONLY"
5- NOW CLICK ON THE FILE YOU LAST COPIED TO THE FOLDER YOU CREATED ON YOUR DESKTOP. THE FILE NAME IS "ROOTER".
ONCE IT'S OPEN CLICK "STEP ONE" AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS THERE.
ON STEP ONE IT WILL TAKE A WHILE FOR THE FILES TO PASS TO THE PHONE SO SIT TIGHT.
ONCE IT'S DONE THE PHONE SHOULD RESTART IN THE BOATLOADER. AGAIN, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE APP.
IF IT DON'T RESTART IN BOOTLOADER DO THE STEP ONCE AGAIN.
6- IF IT ALL WENT GOOD YOUR PHONE WILL BE WIPED CLEAN JUST LIKE WHEN YOU FIRST BOUGHT IT. SKIP ALL THE SETUP STUFF AND CHECK THE USB DEBUGGING ONCE AGAIN ON YOUR PHONE IN SETTINGS....
NOW JUST DO STEP 2. ON STEP TWO YOU WILL GET AN ERROR, JUST CLICK STEP TWO ONCE AGAIN AND YOU WILL BE ALL GOOD. AFTER STEP 2 IS DONE YOUR PHONE WILL NEED TO GO THROUGH SETTING IT UP AGAIN. JUST SKIP ALL SETTINGS, THAN CLICK ON THE
USB DEBUGGING ONCE AGAIN.
ONCE THIS IS DONE DO STEP 3. FOLLOW INSTRUCTION ON THE APP. STEP 3 GOES PRETTY FAST, ONCE YOU SEE AT THE END OF THE APP THESE WORDS ""Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". RESTART YOUR PHONE, YOU MAY HAVE TO RESTART THE PHONE 2-3 TIMES BEFORE YOU CAN SEE "ROM MANAER" IN THE APP DRAWER.
HOPE IT HELPS.
Anyone try this? I may give it a go later when I get home.
I updated the steps, hope it works for you guys. Just make sure you follow the instructions on all the steps in the "rooter.exe" app.
I get my TB today. If someone tries this method please report results.

Hello Friends
I myself purchased this cool phone with some serious hardware, and so you'll agree that this phone doesn't deserve a gingerbread. Thankfully, Huawei came out with the official ICS and it is now available for download here
I tried to find a proper tutorial to update to ICS but was facing a problem with the standard method, placing the app in the dload folder of the root sd card, shutting the phone down, removing the battery and then vol+/vol-/Power method.
I however found out an easier method to update, which is explained as below. Note that my phone is working fine, without any hiccups whatsoever.
Also note that I was on official GB 2.3.5, which can be downloaded from here, and installed using the same steps as below. I recommend to be on the latest GB firmware, although I'm not sure if that's the necessary condition.
Another thing is, I tried the below steps and was able to successfully update my phone. Whatever you do is at your own risk. This is a fairly simple and harmless method, but Murphy's Law applies everywhere
Backing up your data is, as usual, recommended.
Steps:
1.Download the ICS update from the link given above.
2. Extract the file. There are 3 folders named step 1, step 2, step 3, each having a folder named dload and each having a update.app file.
3.Open Step 1 and copy the dload folder and paste it in the root directory of the sd card. If you're confused which is the root directory, check this article out. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120315022047AAEuZhU
4. Turn off the USB storage.
5.Breathe
6.Go to settings - storage - Software Upgrade - Choose from SD Card.
7.Make sure you have charged your phone sufficiently. and confirm
8. The procedure should take some time, do not panic, and the phone will restart after a while. If it shows 'OK Done' but does not restart, pull out the battery and start the phone normally.
9.Connect the phone to the computer via mount USB Storage again, delete the dload folder. Go to the folder where you extracted the downloaded ICS update file, open Step 2. Copy the dload folder and paste in the root directory of the SD card as before.
10. Repeat the same procedure, as Step 5 and Step 6
11. This step should take a bit longer, so dont panic.
12. After it is successful, the android robot will appear, asking you to sign in and all. You might think this is it, but the procedure is not yet complete. I encountered some bugs here, like force closing of some apps. Hence, the Step 3 update file is important.
13. Again, connect the phone to the computer, mount usb storage, and repeat step 9. Only this time, copy the dload folder of Step 3 and paste in the root directory.
14. Repeat step 6.
15.I didnt get an automatic restart this time, so I pulled the battery out after getting a 'OK message' and put it back in booted the phone. And here you get the official ICS with a taste of Huawei
Sign in, and enjoy.
You can also root your phone for Superuser access, with the help of this article : (Check the root section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736650
I'm new here, so if I did anything wrong please feel free to comment or correct me. Thanks!

As I said I have no idea where to post this.
This is for u8800 PRO not the u8800. I really hope X5 U8800 non pro users don't follow your advice.
I guess this thread needs to be moved to U8800 pro section...
It was posted in the u8800 section before the mods moved it here.

i already have done wp.ko method ... no profit.... it doesnt work... when i uninstall system app and reboot it come back again.... sdfix and root uninstaller is not working also........
after activating wp_mod.ko with insmod-command you have to do another command in terminal as su :
mount -o remount,rw /system
now the wp_mod.ko takes effect und you can edit /system (carefully)
after rebooting the device /system is writeprotected again and you have to renew the command
greetings

Do below steps for a permanent system write access
Do step by step very carefully. After this, install root uninstaller(Search Google play). If installed, uninstall & reinstall after this.
1 install TWRP
2 Boot into twrp
3. Select the "Mount" option on the main menu and tick system
4. Go back to the main menu and then go into the "Advanced" option. There will be a "File Manager" option
5. Navigate to the folder you saved the .ko file in and copy it (just touch the file and it will bring up the menu)
6. now navigate to /system/lib/modules and copy the file there by hitting the "select" button on the bottom right.
7. Navigate to /system/lib/modules and insure the file is there. Now touch it to bring up the menu. select "Chmod" option and enter in 644
8. reboot the device
9. Once booted fully open up Terminal emulator and type:
su
insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko
10. Once that's done open up a file manager app with root access and mount as r/w and navigate to /system/etc and look for the file install-recovery.sh*
11. edit the file using a text editor, adding the line insmod /system/lib/modules/wp_mod.ko towards the bottom of the file
12. reboot and enjoy r/w on boot without running the command every time.

Thanks for the reply, man, but is there any tutorial I could follow those steps? I mean is there any videos or somehow? because this seems too much complicated to me, as I am still new to android world after getting addicted to Nokia mobiles..
Do games run smoothly on this phone since we're talking about moving the to SD?

Yeah, it runs smoothly epically. I didn't face any lag problems except for asphalt 8. It just lags on high graphics, but works fine for both medium and low..
Still waiting for someone to help me doing the up procedure. :/

Fist make your SD writable. Then install GL to SD.
Google for GL to SD tutorial.
Don't wait for anyone, Google is a good teacher.

Might just be bad luck for me, but my headphone jack stopped working, my sim card slot broke, and my SIM card spring broke. Also I didn't like the limited storage and awkward buttom placement.
Edit: Sorry for not maintaining this thread for a long time (rl stuff) but after all I really recommend you switching to LineageOS. It's very straightforward, you have full Play Store and Amazon access and a smooth, nice, customizable and clean android. Also you don't have to worry about your device getting incompatible to the Play Store^^ or bricking your device by accidental updates.
Srsly, don't do anything below here. It's old and not supported anymore. Also before doing anything to your tablet: Unlock the Bootloader here
So you finally rooted your Kindle Fire HDX 7/8.9 on 4.5.2
and you want to start using it but remembered that amazons updates kill everything, searched for a method to bypass it and fortunately found this thread.(You Sir are very lucky)
So lets start:
1. How to disable OTA updates
Step 1:
Get a file explorer which has root access (I used ES File Explorer because it was already in the Amazon App Store but every other file explorer should work too)
Step 2:
Browse to /system/priv-app/ and search for DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk
Step 3:
Just rename DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk to whatever you like (Important: After renaming the file mustn't end with .apk)
Step 4:
Profit! You can now access the internet freely without the fear of evil amazon updates
But you want to install apps on your Kindle so
2. How to install Google Play Apps
Step 1:
Aquire the GApps for KitKat. Preferably here
Step 2:
Extract it to your Kindle and copy everything except for PrebuiltGMSCore.apk, META-INF and addon.d in the similar system folder (apps in system/app folder go to system/app folder (the real one))
Step 3:
Install PrebuiltGMSCore.apk manually like you would install any normal apk
Step 4:
Reboot (eventually it takes a bit longer)
Step 5:
PROFIT!!!! You have a fully working Play Store!
Obviously i don't take any responsibility if anything goes wrong (even though this procedure should be pretty safe)
Just rename DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk to whatever you like

Worked great but for some reason on my kindle hdx 7" running 4.5.2 when I booted up the SetupWizard came up to select my language and then when I clicked the big arrow it dumped me into the wireless settings screen and I was stuck. I had to eventually remove /system/priv-app/SetupWizard.apk. You might want to recommend users not including this as well on the off chance it causes the same problem I had. After I fixed this I just clicked on the play store and it prompted me to login.

Never mind I rename SetupWizard.apk to SetupWizard.apk.old this is what I did
adb shell "su -c 'mount -o rw,remount /system'"
adb shell "su -c 'mv /system/priv-app/SetupWizard.apk /system/priv-app/SetupWizard.apk.old'"
adb shell "su -c 'mount -o ro,remount /system'"
Is there a recommendation on installing the gapps via this method, versus the HDXposed method?
It sounds like this is easier and slightly less risky.

Notifications not working
Anyone else having problems not receiving notifications? I am not receiving notifications about updates from google play and I am not receiving notifications from apps where they have been enabled. I took a quick look at some test apps on the store and I never receive the notifications through those apps either. Below is a log cat from a test notifications app. I did some reading and it seems to suggest maybe the individual apps are not configured correctly but I will need to keep digging. Will keep digging, just not very familiar with c2dm so wanted to ask.

On the first boot, I can log in my account but after the home screen loading, PlayStore closed without warning. next time playstore close without warning (very fast). It is seem another Google service still working except playstore. I can log in to my play games account and load Clash of clans data without problems.

@tuanda82 I had similar issues when I didn't remember to install the GMS Core apk after moving all files over. Just a thought.

Discovered a fix. I had to install Xposed and HDXposed. This leads me to wonder whether the technique used to install gapps with HDXposed might not be the better and safer solution if notifications only work with HDXposed. Anyone else have notifications working without HDXposed installed? After looking through the HDXposed code it looks like this is probably the only solution but maybe I am missing something.

I don't want to confuse anyone, but you really don't want to overwrite the folders, just add files to their corresponding location within their like-named partition directories.
If you are comfortable with adb shell commands, I find it easiest to actually move all the folders from the zip into the data or a newly created system folder & then use batch scripts that take advantage of the * wildcard call, such as *.apk, to change ownership & permission setting to 644 for all files at one time. I don't have time to list it all out all the steps right now, but if you have been playing with adb for a while, you probably already know what I am talking about. You can also do the same thing, live in the system folder, but I personally like to segregate the new files so I can check several & then move them all over at once, after I am confident all the changes were made via the shell commands.

There's another way to get working playstore:
You need enough system store to flash gapps by recovery. To get this, change some system apps to user apps (for example by titanium backup). Don't do this with 'really' system apps, but there are many Amazon apps, you can change (for example kindle reader, music, audible). You can still use these apps after change. Then you can flash with twrp a small gapps package.

I am not a developer – but an enthusiast. I do a bunch of random things (personally and professionally) and decided to take a shot at this because I really wanted to have Kali.
I am not suggesting anyone attempt to try this, but am merely providing the process I used to install Kali Nethunter on my Sprint G955U Samsung S8+. I am not responsible for any damages done to your device. Period. If you decide to try and attempt this, do so at your own risk (not going to lie, if I were you I’d wait till one of the developers on XDA posted their way… ha!).
NOTE: This process installs a working copy of Kali NetHunter on the stock data partition.
VIDEO: Posted a quick video on youtube (no sound or anything), but shows functionality. Will add link when it’s finished uploading.
Here we go:
Step 1: Rooted the S8+
*I used the newest instructions (as of 9/30/2017) Root
Step 2: Download nethunter-flo-marshmallow-3.0.zip
*The copy I used was found at nethunter-flo-marshmallow-3.0 (by jcadduono)
Step 3: Moved the .zip file (unzipped) from my computer to the Internal SD Card.
Step 5: Downloaded BusyBox, granted root, then installed Busybox 1.27.2 to /system/xbin and rebooted phone. ***MAKE SURE SCREEN BRIGHTNESS TURNED ALL THE WAY UP***
Step 4: Opened FlashFire, granted root, pressed the + sign and selected “Flash ZIP or OTA” (then navigated to the file location, selected the .zip file, and lastly selected “Mount /system read/write” option).
Step 5: Verified the order was “Flash ZIP or OTA,” then “EverRoot” (disabled) and lastly “Reboot” (normal). Started flash.
***Just like when flashing to achieve root the phone screen was very dark, HOWEVER you could faintly see processes running***
***UNLIKE when flashing to achieve root, this process pauses and requests user action (i.e. watch the phone, otherwise it might seem like a never ending flash)***
***When pressing selections during this stage, the display did not match where I touched the screen. I had to play around a bit to find out where I needed to press in order for each option to be selected.***
Step 6: ***DURING FLASH*** Will ask to confirm you are wishing to flash this file. Pressed acknowledged and pressed “next”
Step 7: ***DURING FLASH*** Will ask if you want to install any additional files (i.e. apps) that are included in the .zip file. I selected all of them (e.g. NetHunter, NetHunter Termial, NetHunter VNC, BlueNMEA, cSploit, DriveDroid, RF Analyzer, and Router Keygen, Shodan) and pressed “next”
Step 8: ***DURING FLASH*** Will state flash is completed and ask to reboot phone, pressed “next”
Step 9: Opened NetHunter, NetHunter Terminal, and NetHunter VNC and granted root to each.
Step 10: Switched to NetHunter, waited for install to complete, then selected “Kali Chroot Manager,” selected “Add Metapackags” and clicked “Install & Update.” When complete I rebooted phone.
Step 11: Opened NetHunter and selected “Check App Update” (an update was available), downloaded newest version.
Step 12: Verified “Unknown sources” was selected to allow install of apps from sources other than Play Store or Galaxy Apps (go to settings > lock screen and security > unknown sources)
Step 13: Uninstalled current NetHunter apk and then located the newly downloaded NetHunter distro. (named latest.apk), selected and installed it.
Step 14: Opened latest NetHunter apk distro, granted root, waited for install, then verified “Kali Chroot Manager.” Rebooted phone. Done.
***Sorry I know it sucks it's not on a modified boot.img BUT it works.

FYI if you update your fiemare and bootloader to the latest combination rom (aqi1) and update flashfire it is no longer super dark when flashing stuff.
Not sure if updating FF helps or not but it doesn't hurt

Appreciate the tip, wish I had known before trying this!!
Is anyone else having a problem w/ Flashfire not seeing the Kali.zip file? I've added it to the internal SD card and the external SD card and Flashfire still cannot see it. The file exists as I've verified via Windows and also via a file explorer app on the phone. I even renamed the file, thinking that may be the issue, but still no dice.
**EDIT** Looks as if I was downloading the wrong zip file. I navigated myself to their download page and downloaded the Nexus 9 Marshmallow zip file. When flashing, I was NOT given the aroma environment that you described, probably because I used a different zip file, but everything installed PERFECTLY. Your instructions were spot on OP, and for that, I thank you!!

I believe he was inferring he didn't plan on being an active developer for this, just being kind enough to share how he accomplished the task. But now that it's been done, it likely won't be too long before a project comes along.
Hell, I might even take this one on myself. ?
Cool i mean id love to get a nose in and have a go too if equally you want to communicate about the dev
