[Q] Android 2.3 keyboard - Legend General

Do somebody successful install android 2.3 keyboard (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9634274) on htc legend?
I am running Modaco r4 2.2 froyo custom rom and after installing, when I try to write, the keyboard process crash.
Strangely, if I press keys on suggestion bar it works!
Bye

When I tried installing it, the verification failed and the installation aborted.

you should use rom manager to flash it

install successful, but it's very small keyboard for me

i have install "BigButtonsKeyboard" from market....free
in settings makes qwertz,qwerty....
lwiss

its working thnks alot with CM6.1 stable release!!!

Working just fine on CM 6.1, but the buttons are WAY too small. Sad, coz it looks realy nice.

How did you managed to install to CM 6.1?
I used ROM manager to flash and it didn't work...

I did the exact same thing and it worked. Keys are a little smaller, but it's just as usable to me as the last one. it's looks a lot nicer though, so she stays. No multi touch though, as I thought it would have.

It's no better than HTC_ime if it doesn't have multitouch is it?
I suspect it needs 2.3 APIs for multitouch.

Did not managed to flash it too.. and I thought this was due to me having Voda Froyo. Im still rooted but it just wont install.

Bigger keys
I can't explain why but my keys got bigger after flashing CM6.1 stable.
I did whipe when going from nightlies to stable but somehow the keyboard remained.
This is the result:

Bigger keys
srry for double post firefox froze but did post it :s

I just flashed the .zip from the link in the first post. I'm running CM 6.1 Stable since yesterday but my keys are small. Hope someone finds a solution :O

What I would try: (Ok this will sound stupid but it might just work)
Wipe and reflash CM6.1 it should still have the gingerbread keyboard but now with bigger buttons

It is, but not by much. For example when you hold period you get a popup with all the commonly used punctuation marks. Same with the smilies, and with the top row of letters (showing numbers and accents, much like in the standard cm keyboard).
I actually like the smaller key size, as I can see more other stuff on screen when I type. I also somehow find it works just as accurate, even though it's harder to see where my finger actually lands.
The biggest thing is it looks a lot nicer, with the suggestions in a black background box in orange letters...nice!
Only thing is I have to teach it all my (swear) words again >_<

HTC_ime also does this. From what I read the only added feature seems to be multitouch (which I'd find awesome), but then I'd lose gestures.

gestures? I haven't used the htc keyboard in ages, but I did hate how friggin busy it looked.

The HTC_ime mod has gestures (and a number of other extra features). It's a lot better than the stock keyboard imo.

A Keyboard that has all these requirements:

Ok i know many people are in love with the hero keyboard but the problem is the lag. i stopped using it because when i type in landscape mode it just becomes so laggy, it would type and it would take forever for it to catch up. but the thing i love about it, i can use the trackball to select the correct words. there are some "optimized" HTC_IME's that disable the autocorrection but thats stupid, i need the autocorrection. i tried the default keyboard and i actually like it, BUT i cant select words with the trackball, that is important to me. so what keyboard does these things:
1) no lag
2) has autocorrection
3) able to select words with the trackball
4) saving words you enter into dictionary and suggest it first
So basically a "betterkeyboard" with trackball selection.
ive tried betterkeyboard, but it doesnt give me the option to select the autocorrect word, or scroll through them with my trackball, i gotta use my finger and its uncomfortable like that. can anyone recommend an alternative if there even is one? thanks!

HTC default Keyboard on Cyanogen ROM
Hello I’m using the MoDaCo-sapphire Hero image on the MT3G, and it is painfully slow. I was wondering if the default HTC keyboard is usable on any of the Cyanogen builds. If so can anyone point me in the right direction to add it to Cyanogen 4.2.5? I love using any variant of the Hero builds, but they lag, are resource hogs, and my battery becomes mush. I just love their default keyboard which is easier to use, and it should be even faster on a lean ROM such as Cyanogens. Thanks.

Here's the link to the keyboard. Just download it and install it using an app installer. The keyboard is pretty fast, but as the OP said, it lags, but not as bad as hero roms.

yes this is the same one that is giving me issues. man i really wish the betterkeyboards had a scroll selection. any other opinions before i call it quits?
perhaps someone can explain to me how i can install an HTC_IME that has been optimized by eugene. its in his latest ROM, i successfully extracted it but it wont install. im sure i can do it through adb, anyone have the codes?
a suggestion...
I found another one recently which I believe is better with less bugs than betterkeyboard... its called "asoftkeyboard" its free on market... and its got almost every language support...
betterkeyboard started giving me bugs depending on roms and stuff so i tried this.. and absolutely love it... keys are kind of small though...
but try that guys...

Just thought I'd ask - which rom are you using? I don't get any lag with HTC IME.
You should really check out TouchPal from Cooltek. It has all functions you requested.

Swype 2.0 Problems

Hello,
I installed Swype 2.0 for WVGA screens on my HD2
and also installed the 'Baly23 Swype HTC-Like Skin'
however I cannot seem to get the app to function,
frankly I don't even know what to do after installation.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
start a new message or note or something,I guess the normal keyboard shows up? press the arrow just to the right of the small keyboard icon bottom center below the keyboard, choose swype.now start using it.
I didn't install any skin, i'm just using the one that was posted yesterday from the tmobile hd2 and it works perfectly. is the skin that important to you? I would say just use it without the skin

do you have a link to that post? can not seem to find it
I can't get the skin to work either lol, not that bothered though but I do agree that the latest build of Swype from the T-mobile ROM, works very well and it's clearly optimised for the HD2, unlike the one from the Omnia II.
I'd post a link but I fear Swype is going to be categorised as a 'Grey Area' just like Microsoft Voice Command.
ok i now realise hte mistake i was making lol, i was expecting it to be with the predictive text or abc functions on the left of the keyboard, the picture shows up however when i click the swype icon a error appears regarding a missing 'EnglishUS language' which i have no clue about, any ideas?
thanks

Swype ??

New owner here.... Does the HD2 TMobile have it ?? I can't find it on my phone. If it's not on there is there an option to get it.
Thanks
Next to the keyboard image there is an arrow, click that and select Swype.
try that
try this but its a bit buggy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=681709&highlight=swype:cool:
original
or this the original one that came with the hd2 which is alot less buggy http://rapidshare.com/files/371694263/Swype.CAB.html
The 2.13 ROM has the best version of Swype ever made to date. I'd suggest using it, as it was made for the TMOUS ROM anyway, and it works better and looks better.

+1.
I <3 the new swype
anyone have the cab for this new tmo swype?
can anybody confirm wether the tmous version of swype is stable on a european HD2?
i can't get the new one from the 2.13 rom to work on my euro leo, even though i'm on a tmous based cooked rom.
it doesn't install a program files folder, but it does install a appmgr folder, and doesn't show up in sipchanger or in the keyboard swapper menu.
Latest Swype to be released: http://rapidshare.com/files/387682993/Swype-LordYuz-3.19.20.20.6343.CAB
Confirmed: Previous input bugs are gone, it runs smoothly with no issues (installed to main memory)
swype
here you go guys.. made specifically for hd2 with landscape support..
works perfect on my hd2
Newer version
3.9.10.10.5032 by Lord Yuz was a great release as it resolved the pin code issue for many however it still had flaws such as long key pressing for alternate character.
Mid March LordYuz released the newest Swype (version 3.19.20.20.6343) for the HTC and its much better. Still same to look at however the long key press actually does work EVERY time, it has vibration and sound for keytapping, double tapping for editing words now work in addition you can still use the swype key, and as mentioned it doesnt change your device ID having to make many hard reset their phone.
You can get this version here http://rapidshare.com/files/387678888/Swype.v3.9.20.20.6343-LordYuz.CAB.

swype for original hd2
Pls I would like if wich is the righ version for my original hd2 (manila 2.5.19211619.0 rom 1.66.408.1 it), if it is multilingual (italian) and, in the end, if there're some problems.
thks
Does anyone else find 3.19 much slower than 2.0 though? Especially with a contact with lots of messages, words take a lot longer to appear!

That would be nice. I tried tapping the SYM key but the only language showing up is EN.

Multiple versions of Swype?
Can anyone tell me if they have managed to have more than one release of Swype on their phone?
I am currently trying to evaluate two different versions but attempting to install the second one is not possible as I am being prompted to remove the existing Swype program before I can install the second one.

well it's mentioned in the help file. use SYM key and select language... But when I do this the only choice it gives me is english. Are no other languages implemented? If so is there a way to add them ? And if so how can this be done? Using a supplementary cab file? Where can I get such cab file?

Keyboard is not good. Missing letters some time.

I got my X10 2 days ago. Previously i was using iPhone. Everybody know iPhone user interface is simply awesome. I like X10 as well. the issue currently i am facing is that when i type my messages some times i missed the letter and i have to press the letter again. specially letter 'a'. I am using android keyboard. Is this issue is because of keyboard or it's software issue. i know touch is perfect because i can see zoom in image of the letter. I also tried to disable sound, vibrate, dictionary etc. but no luck so far.
though in landscape it works fine.
Can anybody guide me how can i solve this issue?
Thanks,
I had the same problem with both the Android and standard keyboards.
The only way I fixed it was to install the HTC Keyboard. Works fantastic and it has a calibration tool so you can make it even more accurate than it already is.
Search for HTC X10 keyboard on google, I think there is a tutorial on esato or se-nse.
I'm afraid that this has become old news when it comes to the x10.
At the moment I can only suggest a workaround or two.
I have installed the HTC keyboard which I find very accurate. It can also be customized to allow the volume controls to control the cursor whilst typing.
Personally I find this to be the best solution.
Better keyboard is a paid app that can be downloaded from the market and offers another good solution.
I have heard in posts that swipe keyboard is another good alternative.
Finally I have heard that upgrading to the latest firmware available may help things. I debranded and upgraded to 1.6 but I still used the HTC as its familiar.
Another option is the Smart Keyboard Pro
yo try the app called shape writer. Its simply amazing, u will love it
HTC keyboard.. easy & free
Smart Keyborad PRO & Swype are also good options
actually the true problem to this is the sluggishness of the touchscreen which you'll experience in most other applications as well. the only solution is to type slower since no matter which keyboard you try you will always experience some random unset delay after each key before it actually registers on the screen. that by itself will hinder your ability to type fast and will introduce additional typos.
If you use SlideIT keyboard then you won't have any problems with sluggishness. ( which I've not experienced anyway). Its not as attractive add swype, but I find it much more accurate.

Sent from my X10i,
using SlideIT keyboard.
You can have landscape size buttons in portrait with 'Big Buttons' keyboard from the market, it takes a chunk of screen but your typing will be perfect
Thanks a lot, i just trid "big buttons", love it, the best one for people like me who are not very handy with their fingers

make sure you correctly enable the htc_ime mod keyboard from the list of keyboards in the input method options.
to bring up the input method option, when your vr keyboard is visible, long press any area where you input text and select htc ime mod.
If the htc keyboard is not available from that list, go to settings, locale and text and tick htc keyboard.

It does not matter if you type slow. it's some other issue i can't figure out the reason maybe SE know it well. you can saw a issue which can't be replicated
I guess the problems of typing are related also to the protective screen

i don't think so. because other keyboards are working fine. the problem is with the firmware
I'm using shapewriter keyboard (free on the android market) ... perfect alternative to the swype keyboard & similar as well for those who arent able to get their hands on swype due to its limited beta release
Try ThickButton - it's pretty awesome - predicts what you want to type, and expands the size of appropriate keys, making the others smaller... You can also select how much they'll expand by (esp if you have really fat fingers, or type with your toes.)

2.1 Keyboard on 2.2

Hi..
I updated to Froyo when the stock, rooted edition was out.. Modded it a bit and added the Circle battery mod.
I have been using the 2.2 Sense keyboard for a while to sms, browsing and so on, but since I use phone-keyboard and not QWERTY or compact QWERTY, I'm missing the old keyboard where I didn't have to press and hold "1" to make "?" and "!"..
Right right, the new keyboard is nice.. But come on, how often do you actually have to change the language of the keyboard?
As I'm from Denmark I can only speak on my own behalf: "Not that often".
Is there a way that I can get the 2.1 sense keyboard back?
If yes, how, and can you guys provide the file for me?
Thanks in advance
Yes this is very easy to do but I dont have the files at hand right now so hopefully someone else can post it for you, if not i will post 2moro
Why dont you just flash HTC_IME_MOD?? Its much better than 2.1 keyboard

Wow, sweet..
I have only seen screenshots of Compact QWERTY and QWERTY, that's why I just thought "well, doesn't support normal phone-mode then"..
Just installed it, and it is sweet, thx man!
I too have had the same annoyances with the 2.2 keyboard.
I just use the phone keypad style one and the thing that was really really bugging me was the exclamation mark had moved and having to press the little arrow then select it.
Just installed the htc_ime mod and it's great. Some nice settings too which make it a bit more customizable.
