Worked for me.. using the latest androidiani.. had to apply that LCD density fix for a normal sized ginger keyboard ..
Still thinking swype is the best virtual keyboard though
I can open that zip just fine. But anyways, I downloaded from http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/06/download-gingerbread-keyboard-for-rooted-devices/ and it worked fine, but still had to do the density fix.
Is this suppose to be multi touch? I hold shift and press a letter and it just toggles Caps...
Since this is just a rip from 2.3, I guess you can't do the feature where they hold Spacebar to switch to another language right? EDIT: Nvm, found it in settings, no language I want to switch to anyways lol
So does this only work on 2.2 ROMs and/or G.O.T.'s 2.2.1 Open Recovery? Or will it work on 2.1 ROMs as well (like the Telus I'm running)?

thanxs! works great
What I see is VERY small keyboard.
How can i change it to larger one?
To anyone who's using this, does this have an "enter" key in portrait mode? I only see a "smiley" in the videos, and I find a line break infinitely more useful than an emoticon.

You're right, that seems like a pretty glaring oversight. Though it won't bother me too much, since in portrait I tend to use the physical keyboard.
*edit*
that actually only seems to be in 'messaging' - try it in browser and it's replaced with a 'GO' button
ugh, it returns to a small keyboard after every restart.

I am currently running [PORT] TF3D V3 By Drizzy for 32B on my MT3G.
I have noticed that in any console app, be it ConnectBot, or SU File Manager & Terminal, I am literally unable to enter a number.
When I longpress the "e/3" I get "e3" as output
When I press the "12#" button The VK doesnt switch to number/symbol mode
This isn't a big enough problem for me to try flashing other ROMs and testing, but thought I could put the communal brainpower here on XDA to try and narrow down a solution (unless it's unique to me lol)
Thanks in advance for the help!
you need to use the default android keyboard in these applications. The HTC keyboard does not work correctly. Currently i have not been able to find a resolution to that problem but noticed the same thing. Switch keyboards and works just fine.

Ok, thanks, glad to hear it's not just me going crazy.
The ROM I am currently using does not have the android keyboard. Any idea what APK and ODEX are named that I would need to pull out of a stock cupcake ROM in order to install the default android keyboard?
Well, I found LatinIME.apk in another ROM, but when trying to Install I get this error:
Application not Installed
Android keyboard could not be installed on this phone.
wtf?
I have a few questions so instead of making a whole bunch of threads I just made one. If you could at least answer one question I would appreciate it.
All relate to 32B by the way.
I know that I had to download a new keyboard, but is there a better keyboard than the default one available for cyanogen, or do all keyboards work?
Is there a way to customize Cyanogen with themes?
Is there a Wifi tethering app?
Also is there a way to view the system files to your phone? I need to upgrade my recovery.
I do not know much about cyanogen his ROMs, but I had it once and I think it was WiFi tethering. and it is very easy to update the recovery through a terminal on the phone.
How do I do the terminal thing? I have the adb thing or whatever but I do not know how to use it.

If you don't like the stock android keyboard which is delivered with the cyanogen ROM, then you can download the HTC Touch Input keyboard.

Follow: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Installing_Themes

They usually have the ROM-version they run on in the title.

There's a wifi tethering option inbuilt into cyanogen (under Settings > Wireless Controls > Internet Tethering)
Hope this answers most of your questions

Thanks for the help. But what I forgot to put, is that I get an error whenever I tilt my screen sideways to type. It says the application browser process com.android.browser has stopped unexpectedly, please try again. I have no idea what that is and it happens with whatever keypad I use to type.
just curious, tried to do some searching, but any way to remove the htc keyboard and get the stock android one?
I am currently running gumbo 1.5c and would like to try the stock one out because for some reason when texting in google voice the htc keyboard goes reallllly slow but while in defualt messaging app texting is fine.
but when i tried the stock keyboard on 2.01 by darch on GV it typed fine
soooo hopefully some way?
thanks
You should be able to go into Settings, Text Input and uncheck Touch Input.
Then in messaging app or really any text area hold it down and Edit Input.
Should work fine.

The default Android keyboard will/should always be there. The HTC keyboard, the keyboard that comes with the SenseUI can be removed or changed back to the "Android" keyboard.
To do this:
1. Open your messaging app
2. Click and hold where you type a message
3. A box should popup and saying, "Select Input method"
4. Choose the Android keyboard.
Hope that helps.

Interesting. It sounds like it could be a ROM problem, have you tried just reinstalling the file?
If not, here's the file -- download, unzip, and push the .apk via shell/command prompt back to your phone, and then reboot your phone.
Code:
1. adb push HTC_IME.apk /system/app/
2. adb shell reboot
3. exit

The .odex file isn't really that important, its for the Android Dalvik JVM -- you can actually delete this file.
And did you actually get Windows 7 mobile to run on Hero?

No, it should not always be there, you need a "LatinIme.apk", i think you could probably pull it out of a samsumg moment dump and use it on 1.5

I stand corrected.
I pushed the HTC keyboard back over, but I'm still having trouble getting the text input option to come up. I've done it before, so I don't think i'm doing anything stupid... Just hold in a text field until it comes up, right? I think I'm gonna try installing swype just to see if i can change text input then.

I could not find the keyboard in the bloatware anywhere in gingerblur this is the only keyboard that is sized properly for our phones that i have found can somone post a link???
Do you know the name of it? I think it might be in the GreyBlur zip but I am unsure, as he might simply not remove it in the first place.
Its in the original post for gingerblur 3.5...an apk is posted.

Have you tried Smart Keyboard Pro, with the "Rapid" skin? It actually looks very similar to our stock keyboard, but better. You can also use Better Keyboard 8 with the "Rapid" skin, it's pretty good, but Smart Keyboard Pro is pretty much the most feature rich keyboard I've used.
Here's my problem with the Atrix stock keyboard: I have a suspicion that it's not really multitouch. Try typing the word "what" several times as fast as you absolutely can. You'll see all the key pop-ups flash above each key, but more often than not, you'll only get the word "hat" or some other missing letters. It seems like if you overlap key presses, it misses some of the presses.
i liked the stock keyboard because it just seemed more accurate when typing also
Installed the APK rebooted and the keyboard isnt there?
Try rebooting one more time. You did do the CWM zip update?

Just download and install apk straight to ur phone then to use it...go to settings >> language and keyboard >> input ... or something like that and select multi touch. It will be the original atrix keyboard.

You should install the .zip file with System Recovery just like you would install Ginger/GreyBlur. It may work without this but just to be sure.
Thanks will try

Ok now getting back to this i unistalled the gingerbread keyboard and the lib file and the mutitouch keyboard says no installed when installing the apk file
I'm new to the android ecosystem but I've always been jealous of swype users, is it possible to port this feature to the nook touch?
Just replace apk file of swype with default keyboard using Root Explorer in system/app
I tried installing a keyboard apk file into system/app file by copy and paste with ES file explorer but it said failed. is there a special app or procedure I need to do this with? and where did you get the apk file? I would like a keyboard with directional arrows (for spreadsheets) and numbers for faster input. Thanks
Are you sure system is r/w?
Sent from my GT-I5700 using Tapatalk
roryn3kids using ES file explorer use the following instructions and you'll have access to r/w root files:
1. Scroll down to Root Settings and enable Root Explorer and Mount File System.
Not sure if this next step was needed but I did it anyway
2. Once again from the setting menu click on File Settings and enable "Show Hidden Files"
then copy the file from your data\app folder to your system\app folder
Swype "friendliness" to nook STR
The instructions above worked fine for me.
The problem is that I found the apk somewhere (a rather new version but still not the latest) and, even when it works, I do not get any "word list menu" like the one shown in those Swype Howto videos.
This means that, either I use an extremely short vocabulary, or I waste 50% of the time correcting the suggested word...
For instance, let's say I wanted to write f***, Swype forces me to accept the word duck.
This is good, because then I have the time to think twice before swearing but in the end... hum, let's say it's not that productive.
Of course, I checked that the options are properly configured (or I think so)
Does it happen to any of you, nook STR users?
BTW, I might also say that I cannot install the beta from swype.com/category/get-swype/
Have any of you succeeded on this?
Not that I want to re-activate a Post that was last updated in August, but it's nice to have as much information regarding swype as possible in a single post.
Thanks
I just discovered the Swype feature on my galaxy player 4.0 and it's great!
Never used Swype before this, But Since finding it a few days ago, it's all I've used! lol
Hope you get it installed, cuz its awesome.
Ok, I have further investigated the Issue and I can confirm now that it is properly configured (I compared it with some other devices) so let's ask it the other way around...
Is there any nook-STR-user who properly installed Swype?
How did you do it or, better said, where did you get your swype from?
Thanks very much, and a happy new year!
(sent using my not-that-effective-but-still-funny-to-play-with swype keyboard )
My findings with SWYPE are :
1. when you set your keyboard to SWYPE and do FACTORY reset, you might get problem in the "re_registration" your Nook. For some reason, the factory reset will not erase everything and the device is looking for SWYPE keyboard - which is obviously not there. So you won't have any keyboard to type onto !!! Having not a backup might get you in serious trouble !!!
2. As mentioned over here, the word prediction/suggestion is not visible so really, there is the small nuisance when you have to correct few words. keep an eye on it, when writing.
3. You might find a little bit frustrating the highlighting of a pressed button. Well, OK ... the truth is, that it's TOTALLY ANNOYING !!! Have a look on my video on youtube so you know, what I'm talking about :
youtube.com/watch?v=OYKjvqhxJmU&context=C3503defADOEgsToPDskIus5a7mP57B922B9wWU5cP
But, this can be fixed !!!
youtube.com/watch?v=S3vwQSvjUYM&context=C34142eeADOEgsToPDskJDd6sKkvt8EqkgO74yVfe7
Big THANK YOU goes to "djdarkknight96". His solution is to make the "highlighting" transparent, so it doesn't bother you any more. There was an attempt to make the trace line transparent as well, but without success (FC). Please, have a look at his thread for more info.

My findings with this are that the swype keyboard is actually still there, so you need to use adb to delete the apk file and, if you replaced the original, find that one and use adb to add it.
