i rooted my phone with the app Z4Root i have never done this before so is there some steps i do now to make sure this doesn't mess up my phone and will my phone un root when updates come out?
Rooting will not "mess up" your phone on its own, it all depends on the apps you decide to run and the modifications you make.
z4root has an option to unroot. Do that youself before you upgrade.
I have found to get Z4Root to work you need to enable usb debugging & unknown sources then reboot your phone the run Z4Root

OK I don't know this but when I temp root with visionary once and I automatically get a super user icon if it worked now when I did that and set the setting turn fastboot off and the usb thing once I did all that and now I can use any application that has root access on it now when I boot my phone and go to use my root apps it says super user granted and I can still use the root Apps and I don't even have to reroot my phone again so now I'm asking do i have root all the time now cuz I don't have to use visionary again to temp root or permanent root do any one have the same thing.
How much does it cost to use punctuation?
I've tried to decipher what you have asked.
I believe you wonder how a temporary root could be acting as if it were permanent. If that is what you wanted to know, the VISIONary application has a setting for "temp root on boot" -- this will give you temporary root every time you boot the phone. If you disable that setting, and reboot, you will not have root access.
Root access alone is not enough to install custom ROMs, but it is enough to use a number of applications that require root access.
Yea sorry not good in explaining things. okay i see now, I'm still new at this but thank you. for clearing that up for me.
Could someone please tell me how to start sideloading my flipside? Ultimately, I want to root it, but I can't even do that because the z4root, which I downloaded, will not install because of the whole 2.1 factor.
I used Sideload Wonder Machine to get z4root on mine, or you can do it manually with ADB if you have the sdk installed. Once you have root, it's not incredibly hard to enable non-market apps, so you don't need to sideload from the pc.
Make sure you install the motorola drivers when you hook your phone to the pc, turn on usb debugging, and set the option on the phone to "charge only." The whole process is fairly easy.
So I downloaded the 1.5.5 SuperOneClickRoot thing. I downloaded my drivers. ADB says it can read my device (ie: adb devices shows my device ID)
I proceed to click on ROOT, and it roots it.
I proceed to click on SHELL ROOT, and it said I have a temp root on my phone and I need to reboot it.
I reboot it,
I click on SHELL ROOT.
It STILL says I have a temp root.
I turn off my phone. Pull the battery out. Reinsert. Repeat
STILL says I got temp root.'
I got update 2.1.
What the buck?
IMO, the best way to root is to install the x10 flashtool. You can find it here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746
Basically, connect your phone via usb, make sure you have usb debugging checked on your phone, and hit root on x10 flashtool. You can use it to JIT enable your phone, install Xrecovery, clean and customize your phone. It's your best bet, if you have a computer that is.

If I am remember from rooting my phone a while ago, you don't need to press shell root. Only press the root button. You can also root with flashtool too. here is the link for the guide to help with flashtool and flastool link.

Completely agree. I used that and it took me 5mins to do it in total (cz i had to read a guide, since I never rooted any phones before). Its very simple and easy.
I used this guide for my xperia x10a with 2.1 and .55baseband from Rogers. Worked great without any problems. Then I just flashed a custom rom and was happy!
If you got any questions id be glad to help as best I can.

Its a brand new defy+
bootloader version 9.10
Software Version: 4.5.1-134_DFP-1321
Flex Version: USADEFYEMARAB1B5TEL009.0
I don't care about warranty, This is my fourth phone through warranty, they have given me a defy+ over the original defy. But its preloaded with all the telstra rubbish and I have never been on telstra, and from reading i hear that they can be much more reliable with being upgraded beyond what motorola will take them, could someone please point me towards how to root and install either a solid gingerbread or ICS install, would that delete the telstra startup screen?

tutorial
Turn on USB Debugging on your device (Setting’s > Development > Tick USB Debugging)
Connect your Defy to your PC using the USB cable
Right click on the SuperOneClick.exe and run as Administrator
Now just click ROOT and wait. DO NOT TOUCH OR UNPLUG YOUR DEVICE
You will get a prompt asking if you would like BusyBox installed click YES
When finished it will ask if you would like to make a donation (consider this)
That’s it reboot your device and your Rooted. You will have the SuperUser APP
Download an App that requires root to make sure all is well (Titanium Backup or Root checker will do) when launching you will receive a superuser request.
for any info reply me and consider hiting the thanks button

stayed doing that mate, ended up using the method listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013&page=9
so now rooted, all the telstra rubbish is gone, ill see if thats stable, or would people recommend ICS as more stable?
I've tried with Kingo and Vroot and that was a no go so I tried Root de la Vega and that did not work. It would start downloading onto the phone and then about 30 seconds in I would keep getting a secure check fail (cache) what does that mean and how can i get around it. Every time that happens it soft bricks and I would have to Odin back to stock. I just bought my phone on Friday the 28th of March. Is is possible that they have patched that way of rooting in later phones like mine.??
Even though Kingo says its not successful, check your apps for superuser and then use a root checker. It told me it failed until I unplugged it. And root checker said that I was rooted. Halfway through the process make sure you accept the app for a camera. Dan
I used this method and it worked 1st try

I just rooted on my MJE Verizon Note 3
I tried the latest version from the site and that did not work...
You need to do the following:
1. Load the latest driver from samsung for your phone... The Mobile Drivers...
2. Make sure you restart your computer after drivers install
3. Then plug in your N3 and let windows do its stuff and you may need to restart again after its done installing
4. Make sure you are in debug mode and unknown sources is checked
5. Then you need to download this file (older ver of kingo) (THANKS to BluPhant)
6. This is what worked for me and now i have a rooted phone...
Also thanks to bajasur for the BAJA ROM and Support....
