Would you buy a replacement screen from this guy?!? - Vibrant General

So my Vibrant Screen is cracked. I found a replacement on Ebay and sent the following message to verify the screen type.
"Is this screen a replacement AMOLED screen? Or is it LCD and not an OEM replacement? Thanks"
Reply:
"Yea! AMOLED baby!!! Its the future! its like "whoah! what? that just really happened? I cant wait to show my all of my friends- wait, I only have one and its my cat...
No one cares man, its a phone, you talk and text, if you watching movies on it, thats just sad... and if you think that it is just a really great screen and all of the good stuff... go online and read, AMOLED is the same crap... LED not LCD... who cares?"
Name taken out but PM me if you want it...

seems legit

No. The guy seems like a crackhead

Please don't buy anything from this guy. Even if he is legit, the money is probably going to support his crack habit.

It's obvious you didn't find a replacement...

Replacement?
There are a few others that specific AMOLED as opposed to LCD. I honestly don't have an issue with it being LCD. But I do have a problem is the price for an LCD is equal to or above the AMOLED alternatives.
And did I ask an inappropriate question in the first place by asking the seller to confirm? Nowhere did I say I wouldn't buy it if it was LCD. But his snotty attitude regarding what a cell phone should mean to me basically turned me into a non-buyer of this product.

I doubt that an LCD replacement would even work in the Vibrant.
Super AMOLEDs are made only by Samsung and they do not sell them to other companies. If you need a new screen you should go through Samsung.

If samsung sold the parts I would... But since it's about $175 to replace through samsung, I might not have much of a choice!

Price for Screen
Vibrant OEM screens for sale are found a few places I did the research trying to get a better price. The problem is this phone is in high demand so the price is pretty high.
If you want to buy in USA global direct sells for 87 bucks if I remember correctly.
There are a couple of guys that sell oem parts but they are in Hong Kong 63-67 bucks (and the wait to get here) Alibaba website you will find the link there.
If it was me I would use the global direct guy. You can find his website (same guy supplying the FFC camera) check the thread for the FFC camera supply
These are in high demand so the wait could be a week or so.
good luck

R.I.P to my N1

I was getting out of my car and dropped my phone on the floor and the screen cracked . I sent it to HTC and they said it would cost 288 to fix the phone.
I did alot of research on vibrant and some on the g2 i can renew my contract in October....witch phone would u guys pick and why?
Thats unfortunate. A gel case would have likely saved it.
Try looking online for just the screen if you have the know-how to replace it yourself.
well I have a n1 and a vibrant and I love my vibrant well better than my n1.
The g2 will be sweet and obviously come out the box with 2.2. Its a toss up id wait till its released though and check the bugs. I personally dont know if I can go from a samoled to TFT,,
Well one thing you might want to look into is call TMO and tell them you just bought a Nexus one and you want to put insurance on it. Wait a couple of weeks and then put a claim into. I purchased my Nexus One over criagslist and switched it to my insurance from my G1 with no questions. I haven't put in a claim for it ever but no questions asked applying it to insurance. So if it were to be crushed its covered.
Vibrant has great hardware but the updates and fixes keep getting pushed back, pretty sure the 2.2 update will be the last for the phone. I'd get the Desire Z or wait for the Desire HD that has better rom development.

Yeah. Samsung has been good about NOT updating their phones...just because. Since you asked about the Vibrant and G2...go for the G2. Vanilla Android...most likely to get the most support...from the community here as well.

i agree. but the fact that the gps doesnt work pisses me off so much.
so i ended up returning my vibrant and am sticking with my n1 until they push a fix.
but ur so correct. going from samoled to even amoled feels so weird. the screen and the glass have such a large gap. the brightness is lower. the colors arent as great.
but its still better than tft/slcd

lol at the guy doing insurance fraud. Im thinking about g2 since i need flash for my cam and it reminds me o nexus in every way.
I'm assuming it landed on the screen? In which case a case would have not helped. Ha, I used case twice.
A simple question:
Does Vibrant equip flashlite?
If so, I may opt for it over G2 (Vibrant can be tethered out of the box). However, the forthcoming moto and LG Android phones will have mobile hotspot and softUMA out of the box.

Ive had the insurance on my g1 and when I bought my Nexus I called up and asked if I could switch it to my Nexus One and they switched it.
I am not sure....I think I would go G2. But on a side note do you want to sell your N1? I just need a new motherboard as I broke a few resistors and now my screen shows black, pink, red, and blue only.
I'm "moderator" in an italian forum for N1.
In our forum an user had same problem and he FIXED BY HIMSELF...
if you want I can link you the procedure he used to buy the new screen and to istall it (but make attention: that's in italian lang...)
There are local places that replace the screen for $60-$100. Check craigslists or google search for your local area. Or, replace it yourself.
Actually replacing the screen is easy....really I broke the resistors doing something I knew I shouldn't (using a metal dental spatula to pry plastic parts). Honestly though once you get the plastic off which is not very hard the rest is quite easy.

[Q] Shattered Screen....How do I go about replacing? (pictures attached)

Well The glass is not as strong as I thought. I only dropped it getting out of my car on to the pavement. The screen it still working but idk for how long. I just added insurance through Sprint right now because I didn't have it. I bought it from Best Buy. So now what should I just claim it was stolen and get a new one? Should I wait to make a claim? How much is it? This just toped my bad day, I need a drink!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Samsung-Epic-4G...Cell_Phones&hash=item35ad2d640a#ht_500wt_1156
Uh this could work?
If its within 30 daysof you buying it then I believe that any claims have to go through best buy since you bught it there....if it is past the 30 days then you can just take it into a sprint store and they should repair/replace it for you....if they don't do it for free then they will just charge you the deductible the same as if you reported it lost/stolen

Well I'm seeing posts that its $100 deductible from Sprint's 3rd party. But everything online i see from Sprint says $50. If its $100 then the above post for the screen replacement is worth it. I have tore a Epic down yet but I think i capable of doing it. I called Best buy and they said that if i have their insurance ($10 a month) They will send it out put a $150 hold on my card then replce it if its not fixable with a new one. Im with in my 30 day so IDK ??????????????

It used to be 50 bucks, then last year sprint upped the deductible to $100 so the web pages you are finding might be older ones

Beware of replacement screens off ebay.
Most of the replacement screens for the Epic are LCD screens which are NOT SuperAmoled! So its maybe 20 or 30 bucks cheaper but it aint gonna be any thing like the original.
My advice is to just pay the $100 deductible and get a new one through sprint. You will at least be sure you are getting a S.Amoled screen!!

wondering how it looks like.
This is from me getting out the car with the phone on my lap. about a 2 -3 foot drop directly on the screen.
Now to decide weather i should cancel the Sprint insurance and got get the Best Buy insurance. Best Buy said they will add me on sent it to their repair center then if its deemed unrepairable they will give me a new one. 10$ per month $150 deposit that i get back according to them.
wonder if squaretrade may be a better option?
Here is a response I received from the seller of the replacement part.
Dear 420whitewidow420,
Hi, this screen is two layers. It sounds like you just cracked the outside layer, the touchscreen. The lcd underneath is still fine. The part in the ad will include both screens and the back. Pretty much as long as your motherboard is okay this will take care of it. Thanks.

It's not going to be super amoled from an ebay vendor because Samsung has tight control of production at this point in time. IIRC the s.amoled tech allows the touchscreen and led screen to be attached to each other so most likely you broke both and/or can't replace them separately. I think the ebay guy just wants to sell you the kit regardless of whether it will help you. I would definitely not buy it.
For what it's worth, this is from the AMOLED wiki (bolding from me): The main difference between a Samsung Super AMOLED and AMOLED is that touch is integrated into the screen instead of an extra layer on top of it. This results in a thinner device, 20% brighter, reflects 80% less sun*light and consumes 20% less power. Color is more vivid and natural, viewing angles are improved since that extra touch layer is removed with better light transmittance.

Who cares, return it get a new phone from a cheaper retailer
in greece the price is the same everywere
Doesn't matter if it's 6 euros, 600 euros or 60000 euros. A few will have manufacturing defects. Looks like you got one of those.
Take it back and exchange it or refund it if you think it's 'all cheap plastic'.
What do you want us to do?
i don"t want you to do anything.but to see people from samsung to check all the devices before they send it to us.my phone is samsung,my tv is samsung, my bd player is samsung...
This is a mass-produced device, not a coach-built Rolls-Royce or even a Vertu. There are general QC checks per batch but there are bound to be several defective units ending up in consumers' hands.
It is always possible that it was damaged in-transit, and nobody can prevent that.
Just take it back and get an exchange or refund. Not hard, and it's not like they're going to charge you or anything.
take it back and swap it
did you really need to come on here and post to realise what you had to do???

i thought this forum was built to post our problems and solutions.i know what i have to do...
If you have a problem with the phone then talk to your retailer or Samsung. Coming or a forum that is dedicated to people who actually own the phone - you're not going to get a positive response if you come in a start rubbishing the device as "cheap plastic".

gf dropped my phone, screen cracked.....

:crying:So my girlfriend managed to drop my beautiful white s3 and now i wanna drop her ass. somehow she managed to break it the same day i rooted it and started to truly enjoy it.
Screen cracked at the top corner now theres a spider crack all over the top of the screen with a couple of cracks that run down to the middle phone still works, but the crack is killing me on the inside hehe. Now funny part is i bought the defender for it the day i bought it cause i knew it was too weak to handle a hard drop, and i've been checking the mail for it for 2 weeks now. then she comes and does that just the day before it arrived. After crying inside a while and just wanting to punch someone i managed to start looking at options.
checked online and the parts cost $240-$290, bell and best buy can fix it by it'll cost at least $325. I also bought the best buy protection plan (12.99/month). am thinking I should be able to find some cheap non-samsung parts for much cheaper than that, replace the screen and give it to best buy for an exchange as long as something is wrong with it (not sure wt though )

Only thing I could think of is they might do it different over there in Canada. I think that is where the OP is from.
Just posted about this in the other cracked screen thread...
"Missed my damn pocket on Saturday night, and dropped mine on the garage floor. Got a small crack about as wide a finger nail from the right side of the ear piece curving up to the edge. Which is strange, cause the only other mark on the phone is a small scuff at the bottom of the back cover. But, I have BB insurance, so its in being fixed with no deductible! I've dropped my epic a few times in the last year, and not scratch on the screen. Makes me wonder what they changed in the formula from og gorilla glass to gorilla glass 2.
As much as I don't want to add all the bulk to it, the Otterbox Defender, or Trident Kraken may be in its future...

If I dropped my girl's laptop, phone, crashed her car (or w/e) and we weren't pretty much married, I would cover it to get whatever it is fixed.
I dropped my friend's motorcycle helmet while handing it to him several years ago. he didn't have a good grip and as I passed it, it slipped into his hand from mine and fell to the concrete floor. it was still intact, but had nice bruising from the concrete. I apologized and got him a new one within a week...

The PEP from Best Buy in Canada is different than the one in the US. It does not cover physical damage, liquid damage, basically they call it "stupidity". I'm not calling it that, that's how they word it. PEP from Best Buy only extends the manufacturer's warranty. So instead of getting refurbs, you get brand new replacements. And you can pick a different phone if you want. I posted in another thread indicating that no carrier or 3rd party store in Canada offers insurance anymore. At least not that I'm aware of. It sucks because Best Buy charges $12.99 + taxes per month for the PEP. I have 2 PEP's from Best Buy. On one of my PEP's, I already got 3 brand new replacement phones. On my
2nd one I got one brand new replacement in which I chose a different model.
So both already paid itself.

Wow I can't imagine trying to sell that to customers. It's already hard enough trying to get people to get the 9.99 plan that replaces the phone with no deductible. Customers say "if I break the phone I'll buy a new one for 200, not realizing the phone is $650.

Dropped phone-Tale of woe.

I was the proud owner of a shiny brand-new Galaxy S3 as of 7 p.m. July 14. On my way to the mall just before 3 p.m. the next day to purchase a cover, it slipped out of my hand and hit the pavement. Damage to screen and bezel from a fall of only 2 1/2 feet. The back cover even popped off! I had watched the drop tests for this phone and knew that with this one there was no way I'd think about not getting a protective cover. It is definitely not as tough as the other previous Galaxy S models. But I never would have expected so much damage from such a short fall. Anyways, it is going to cost me 130.00 for the deductible through the insurance claim, plus the aggravation that is already starting. It was supposed to be easy-peasy. Instead of helping me in store (they kept saying they couldn't do that-access to my account purchases at their fingertips plus me there in person with ID!), I have to print out an affidavit along with proof of ID. I totally understand that, but why not just help me in store! You guessed it, I don't have my own printer (I've been meaning to rectify this) although I do have a scanner. Long story short, lack of a scanner means I lose 24 hours-can't do this until tomorrow. Then barring any further BS from T-Mob or Asurion, I'm told I get a new phone the next day. Too bad I'll be out of town by then, but, oh, well. That's what I get for not having a printer. Now for the real rant! Gorilla glass my a$$! If Samsung is going to make a phone with this slick plastic back and with a plastic bezel, they should just ship it with some cheap plastic protective cover so that you can make it out of the store and have time to shop for a cover to your own liking! Don't get me wrong, I love my new phone, however I'll really consider the build quality of the next phone I buy. I will especially pay attention to slick edges and plastic bezels.

No, I was not aware of that. I thought I was in General. Sorry, I'll figure out how to move it.

Yeah report it to a mod and explain why in the report. Someone will move it no problem.

Looks like one of the nice mods moved the thread.
But seriously.. you said it yourself.. You knew the SGS III was eaiser to break then your grandma's fancy china.. And you knew you should have had a case.. why didn't you?
I have had mine cased in a bulky 2 layerd cheap ebay case while I wait for a kraken or the defender to come out.
Anyone who does not case their SGS III is living life on the edge.

The guy at Car Toys brought out the ugliest case I'd ever seen, so I refused it. Went out the next day at my earliest convenience to buy a decent case. One block from home, disaster struck! Would have been cheaper to buy that case and throw it away the next day. It is costing me $130.00 in deductible fees for the replacement. Now I've read that some guy dropped his while in a case and it still broke.
EDIT: Thank you moderator, I'm so sorry for my mistake!

Simple solution: don't drop your phone. I didn't drop my HD2 in the whole year I had it.
I have to tell customers the same thing, we have nothing to do with Asurion, you can use my phone but I cant file anything for you unfortunately.
The only reason you have to jump through so many hoops with Asurion is because since you just got it, it hasnt registered on your account, so there is really not way for them to know if you actually own the phone unless you provide that affidavit and proof or purchase.............I broke my S3 after 2 days and even though i work for T-Mo and still had to go through the same thing

That's what I wanted from them, to use their phone. Also would've saved me time if I could have printed that form right in the store. I had everything I needed with me at the store: receipt, box with IMEI, my ID. I wasn't asking them to do it for me, just to call from there and confirm from their records that I purchased the phone. Anyway, a couple of calls today to Asurion got them to approve my claim a little faster, but not in time for the replacement to arrive before i leave for Seattle. So it's being shipped to where I will be there.
Mine broke within 6 hours of having it. I got it, late at night, fell asleep while texting, and when i woke up it was on the floor and the screen was cracked to hell. I silently weeped. I was suppose to get a case the next day.

We have no way of confiming your purchase unfortunately, they only accept a copy of the reciept or scan of the box
Iunno but to me, when I see the drop tests of the s3 90% of the time the drops are done by women. And it seems like 90% of the people who have been dropping their phones have been men c.c....men are generally stronger and taller than women so........iunno just my 2 cents
