Froyo root? Superboot? Recovery? - Streak 5 General

I keep looking and browsing the web for information about rooting the streak but so far i've only manage to find one for 1.6 or 2.1. Does anybody know if the superboot works on froyo and if theres a recovery image yet just in case? My phone came unlocked with froyo pre-installed and has a 12*** something version. I apologize if this has been ask before or if im in the wrong sub-forum. Thank you

Found z4root apk and works perfectly. Rooted froyo and now looking for some decent rom. thanks for the tips y'all

i think z4root is better than universal androot since it installs busybox and does it quite well, it also works on alot more devices. besides that, they are pretty much the same, rooting tools. use what you like that works. seems like things like z4root, androot, busybox, and superuser where all taken off the market just before gingerbread came out.

One thing that keeps bothering me when people work out / find a solution . . . they don't post what they did, where they found the program / software / driver !! or what they did to fix the issue.
SHARE, z4root is off the market, so where did you locate the download ?

z4root isn't working with the latest OTA update build 318. Niether does universal androot.

Superoneclick will root 318 search xda for the link

I used SuperOneClick. However, I'm still on the "stock" 305 version. I never upgraded. SuperOneClick worked just fine to root.

Very cool thanks for the heads up.
Anyone tried this? Just curious im already rooted just maily would like it to unroot.
sent from LG Dare lol
It worked great for me, I rooted with it, tried a few root only apps...then I unrooted with it to see if it works, and it worked...then I rooted again so I can use those root only apps.
worked for me. painless, and quick. total time....less than 5 minutes.

Really Works? The Rooted Apps too?
Does this really work and do the rooted apps function? Why does this work and the bootloader has not been cracked? Cunfused....
And now there's this too.
I cant seem to get this to work. I downloaded the file, went and clicked root me and it just sits there. How long does it normally take
If that's all you did, then you need to reread the instructions. I'm sure it clearly states to toggle Bluetooth or wifi. I don't want to burn anyone but in my opinion, if you can't follow instructions maybe you shouldn't be rooting your phone.

will we still be able to use the one click method to root our phones after we have installed OTA update Froyo 2.2 from verizon in September. I have not rooted my X yet because the only thing i need it for is wifi tether and adblocker, i dont really need the custom ROMs. will i still be able to do this once my phone has received the update, if not will they develop a root for phones that have been updated via OTA
sorry for being such a noob thanks for your help

You cannot currently root a 2.2 device (unless you upgraded with that update.zip to 2.2 and moved SU), but I m sure that it will come sooner rather than later
universal androot
Im using universal androot and have my phone rooted, which i believe is the same thing as 1click root will i still get the ota in September with root on, I hope i have not posted in a inappropriate place I just was curious.
Bro, were did you get this universal androot?

I tried universal androot v1.6.1 and it was a no go, seemed soon after installing toolkit it kicked me out. I did the update.zip so i'm up to 2.2 now. Gonna try the droidx root in the first post see if that does it.

theres no way to root a 2.2 device yet, u have to root in 2.1 first then move su around and then move it again once upgraded to 2.2

this is incorrect. you can root your 2.2 Droid X with this method: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/08/26/droid2-rooting-method-works-for-droidx-running-froyo/
worked like a charm on first go for me.
My speaker on the back of my droidx is blown i need to take it to verizon. How do i get rid of superuser permissions app in app drawer? I rooted with universal androot. I was told you have to remove it first then unroot. So i looked for it in app manager to delete it but its not there. I tried unrooting it still not there. Rooted it back still not there. Thanks for ur help.

[Q] How to root Froyo on Epic?

I had a stock 2.1 Epic rooted with Z4. Manually upgraded to 2.21 effortlessly, all works well.
Tried rerooting with Z4 multiple times and it would not work. I removed Z4 from my Epic.
How can I reroot? The good news it Titanium is still freezing the apps I previously had frozen. However, I have no way to add freeze or unfreeze.
Thanks,
Todd
If z4root don't work just use the one click root with clock work. Its easy and straight forward

Thanks I found the problem I had the old Odin version and then I used the update that had root and recovery built it worked fine after that. I was wondering if you knew of anywhere I could find a kernal that allows overclocking and or has a 600 mhz step in it?
If your going to flash a froyo rom, there are no kernels yet. If your going to start on a 2.1 rom then thee are a few god ones around like the phoenix kernel, the extreme kernel and numerous others that allow over clocking and under clocking. Check the epic development threads for the 2.1 roms and they have the links to kernels there.

Same here, Id rather have an instructional video instead. Because this one click root is not working. I'm wasting too much time already trying to root.
OneClickRoot with Superuser for EPIC w/Froyo
I have a link for a oneclickroot for the epic running froyo without getting a cannot or willnot or failed because of Read Only. Unfortunately because I am a newbie it says I have to post 8 posts before posting an outside link. I uploaded it to my personal website which I use to advertise dogs that I sell. If you want PM me and I will give you the link to grab it off of my site.

Rooting Rogers build 7921 Dell Streak

Hey guys.
I just unlocked my phone and am now looking to root it. My problem is that I have read so many different methods and none of the downloads are for my particular build. So I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction.
Build number is 7921
Running stock 1.6
Thanks guys.
Cheers,
Pat

When I had 1.6 installed, I used universal androot from the market. You may have to do it a couple times... With 2.2, use SuperOneClick. It runs on your computer while connected via USB.

I can't find the app in the Market. Do I have to side load it?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
SuperOneClick you get from XDA, just search. Its not in the market because it runs on your computer, not on the phone. Universal Androot is in the market, but I think if you have a stock ATT ROM many apps are blocked so you wont even find them. That is a whole different problem...

Yeah that must be the case. I have searched the Market for Universal Androot and I can't find it. So as you said, it's probably blocked by Rogers Stock Rom.
One thing I know for sure is I want to root my phone. So if I can't do it through Universal Androot I guess I have to go with SuperOneClick.
I'll keep searching for a solution. There's gotta be a way I can get Universal Androot on my phone.

Go to your Streak browser. Bring up Google page. Copy paste or type in "How to root and unroot the Dell Streak with one click". The website is Streaksmart. Open the thread and select the link. Follow the instructions and you're done.

You're welcome. Here's the link that will get it done. One thing though, there is no back-up rom for our build. So if you do it you won't be able to go back to the Rogers 1.6 build. So no warranty if something happens.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905791&highlight=rogers
That's what's stopping me from doing it.
If I want to do what patsjourney did, but i have rogers 2.2.2, can i go back if I dont like it? I want to customize my phone but want to go back to stock if i have to. ive been told to use streakmod but is there an easier way?

[Q] How to r00t Samsung GALAXY Tab?

Apologies if there are similar threads.
I am looking for an 'easy way' to root my GALAXY Tab. I have used the android z4root application but it didn't successfully root my device and just hung for a while and did nothing.
I would like to know if there is another way to root the device. I want to have root so that I can slightly overclock the CPU, for now I am not majorly interested in custom ROMS as I know there still in early stages of development.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks peeps!
Same here. Z4root crashes on my device with latest firmware
I installed the tools with OCLF one click lag fix then ran z4root. You can also install busy box with Titanium before you get root.

Thanks, but is there no tutorial on XDA that explains in detail how you can go about rooting your device. I've not be able to find anything with the search tool...?
With z4root being so easy and available on so many devices, alot of the tutorials with adb push (or what ever) or how to manually root have disappeared with few exceptions. Now it seems people find work arounds to Get z4root to work as the alternative is more difficult. It took a very long time to root on my SGT. On my DroidX it took three times to work and root.
And to the poster above about OCLF. I did the Install ext2Tools. The OneClickLagFixv2.2+ became available. When I run the OCLF 2.2+ I get an error with code: Could not mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 onto /dbdata/rfsdata: mount: device or resource Busy.
I rooted with z4root first and then VZW Tab bootstraper by Koush CWM which converted to EXT4, then I ran OCLF EXT2Tools. Would this be an issue? Sorry I'm a bit new to SGT.
And I don't mean to hijack thread. Tia

Rooting my Dell Android 2.2

Ive searched the forums for hours trying to find a way to root my Dell Streak, but nothing works. Ive tried
Universal Androot
Both the "App" roots, only the temp root works
SuperOneClick actually bricked my streak and it took 4 four hours to reflash it.
Any help would be great thanks!
Edit : Also I just upgraded to build 12821 since everyone was saying that version is more stable. My baseband is 318.
It's superone click, there's a link from marvin02 in pocketables forum giving tips and trick on using SOC effectively. For me, what I did was disable anti virus, closed all other application and then it worked! Took me almost 30 tries believe me but did not give up till I got it. 1.5.4 worked for me, give it another shot.

JordyGrant1,
If you are going to one of DJ Steve's builds you don't need to root. Just follow this guide on streakdroid.com. Ignore the stuff about amss.mbn as you don't need it. Steve's ROMs are already rooted.
Tips for using SuperOneClick - I just gathered up some of the suggestions I have seen in various forums.
So really...I dont need to root if im going to his Roms... awesome. I thought i needed to root to use a custom rom. Awesome. Thanks guys!
