So google officialy announced Gingerbread.
It's time for flashfags to start refreshing all ROM related forums

It's always good to know what we, the Legend owners, are missing and how far behind we are. Thank you for posting this in the Legend sub-forum
And of course... HTC will only offer 2.3 to HTC Desire HD and Z (who will only get it by December 2011 ), and their upcoming phones....
lolflashfags..
Yea thats me
@petertakov I be a good sport, so I'll tell you a secret: root. Do it now!
After all, nobody waits for anything nowadays
Anywayssss, UI looks hellagood... I wish I was some kind of a dev, I'd have that gingers ass on my legend ASAP (no pun intended)
The moment a working ROM appears for our Legends, Im rooting.

Excatly - last HTC phone ever and never again ... I bet I'm gonna buy the new nexus sooner (when it rolls out here in UK) then HTC is gonna release Legend Froyo update...
Since my current status is: no job, no money and no girl, I don't think I'll be jumping on the Pure Google train anytime soon. And tbh, so many newer phones are still froyo-less, so I wouldn't rage so much.
Nexus S had me at "Allo Allo Je T'Aime Je T'Aime"
@latorante, Oh! I still love the looks of the Legend. Nexus S looks ugly to me!
Might be a bit careless on HTC's part, but I still love them 'cos you pay mainly for the hardware. Software can always be tweaked to your liking. At least this is how I see it.
Whats the use of beauty without substance?? No doubt legend was a good phone when it was realeased. Hell thats y we all bought it to begin with.
It still is beautiful. But thats about it.
Its like having a really hot girl and not being able to do anything about it. Yeh people can be happy with hookers (hacks) but we want the real deal! Dont we
P.S - No offence to the awesome hackers on this site. If it werent for you guys, my phone would be glorified paperweight!

It will. I'm pretty positive.
I don't wanna push it, but I'm even confident it'll run smothly. Legend's got decent GPU and ginger (u dont mind if i call u ginger do u?) says yes to hardware acceleration ^^
Still people say gingers don't have souls. Oh, how wrong they are!

lol I saw a podcast (Hak5) we have about 15 days till all IPv4 addresses are used up!
And yea, I sensed the sarcasm, just wanted to add
Well sure, there's no more IPv4 addresses but ISP doesn't give you static IP while you're on mobile internet... Thanks to subnetting and dynamic IP addressing.
Server providers, on the other hand, will soon have to adapt to this situation.
My guess is, you only need IPv6 settings if you wanna set up static IP and use your
phone as a server....
Well... I just love the Sense UI... I have an HTC Legend with the 2.2 update and sense, and a Nexus One with 2.2.1, no sense...
I still prefer the Legend
And I bet that if HTC doesn't want us to have 2.3 with Sense on our legends, that we can port it from some other phone
HTC UK on Facebook, directly under the FroYo for Legend News:
For those wondering about Android 2.3 - we are excited about the OS update coming for Android, and will definitely have some phones running this OS, we do not have a specific timeframe for new phones or updates at this time. Please stay tuned though.

Can I just point out, this guy says he is testing Hero 2.1 on a G1. Therefore if tested upon a Hero device we may still come across problems of WiFi/trackball/Bluetooth etc. not working.
Well if G1 devs are kind enough to share it yes.
Twitter is alive with talk of the Hero 2.1 rom atm. Lets just hope one of them kind G1 Devs let "LoxDev" have a copy to play with

The rom comes with HTC applications, while google applications have to be ported
Thanks. Nothing posted seemed to be really clear about that. It seems like there are some conflicting things being said. KingKlick makes it sound good and ready, while Paul O'Brien said that it is nowhere near completion.
This is so exciting!
Btw lol @ people running it on G1 They need to share that sh*t with Lox_dev, not run it on their G1 and say that it's unstable
(@ Lox_dev, I'm still donating should you ever equip 2.1 with vanilla android aps )

There actually was a memo leaked from Palm yesterday that they are dropping WebOS and switching to Android. (http://slashdot.org/submission/1198960/Rumor-Palm-ditching-webOS-for-Android?art_pos=19) Should have a more official announcement soon.
Amazing... My dad had a pre and hated it, we've been debating lately how long palm and blackberry will be in business if they don't make some drastic changes.

If your question was serious, 127.0.0.1 is 'localhost' on all machines. It's the address the computer uses to reference itself.
Honestly, I think Palm would be earth-shatteringly stupid NOT to switch to Android, as long as they bring along their WebOS interface to put on top of it.
The main thing that kept me from going with a Pre is Palm's history of allowing their software to stagnate. Back in the day I had one of the original PalmPilots. I also had a Treo 650. There's what? 10, 12 years seperating those two devices? Yet it's astounding just how much they managed to NOT improve PalmOS over those years. They added color and mediocre internet connectivity, but beyond that it's hard to think of any significant improvements in the OS from a user perspective.
That alone makes it hard for me to consider a Palm device, even if the Pre is quite nice on its own merits. I want a platform that I can stick with for awhile so I don't have to repeat the experience of moving away from the Treo and seeing $150 worth of apps flushed down the toilet. Luckily I never spent much on iPhone apps. Android gives me a sense of comfort that I can pay good money for an app and be able to use to for a good long time, through device upgrades, and even carrier changes.

I think their memo would say "Getting Administrator" access. If its Windows lol!
Another memo would be "invoking bsod to gain Administrator access" ;D
Sorry guys, Palm is NOT switching: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/palm-moving-to-android-to-stay-alive-not-according-to-palm/
webOS is a fantastic user experience as long as it's on good hardware. The Pre, however, really struggles to be called decent, never mind good, hardware.
I hear the Pre Plus performs a lot better, though. *shrug*
Enough of the aside, though.

I think RIM Would have to fall of the face of the earth to fail. Toooooo many corps have waaaaaaaaaaaay to much money tied up in BIS to loose it or switch to something that is actually worth a crap - BIS is really Ok for Business I guess. RIM was big on innovation and now they have found complacency. It's sad, they have potential they are just wasting it.
Well the last craze to get updated to Froyo seems as though it may end up being short lived as I came across this today: http://www.androidcodex.com/gingerb...edium=rss&utm_camp aign=gingerbread-is-coming
2 months for a GB release, then we wait for root (which might be very quick) and/or wait for HTC to Sense-ify GB, then we get it on the Evo. Froyo's got a few months left in it - about as long as Eclair had on the Evo.
Or maybe it will live up to the hype and HTC will leave it alone and just push it without a new UI.
Personally, I can't wait for 3.0. I'm really hoping it comes a lot closer to being as nice looking and easy to use as iOS. I came from an iPhone and loved it, but I love Android a little bit more; I don't know why I like it more, but I do, however, the apps are really ****ty when compared to iOS and the UI is pretty rough in some areas - sense or aosp.
Google really needs to step it up and hire some graphic designers that can't code at all.
Whoot Whoot !!!
bring it on Google

I think the statement was that Google was aiming for UI that was nice enough to DISCOURAGE manufacturers from layering their own environment over the top, which would hopefully save resources.

Legend is getting Froyo. Still acting like an impatient child. It's ready when it's ready. I don't want non-Sense UI. I don't want to downgrade my HTC thank you. I will wait for Froyo, and a bit longer to for it to be rooted, that is al..
lol i wont froyo too
If CM6.1 releases before FroYo for HTC Legend, I'm going the CM6.1 way.
If you see the other thread, I was the one telling someone that FroYo WILL come but the question is 'WHEN'?
We don't want to have to wait till its 2011.
Not starting an argument, that's all.
Also, removing sense isn't really a 'downgrade' as you put it. Better Batterly Life. Have you even tried Launcher PRO/ ADW.Launcher?

Why would HTC say that 2.2 is coming when it isn't ?
For a laugh ? In order to show the world how unreliable they are ?
No !
Froyo is coming but since the Legend has never been one of their flagship phones and relatively few people own it how many people do you think they'll dedicate to the project ? They do have other business to attend to as well you know.
All you have to do is have a little paitence and get your obviously fragile emotions under control. Doom and gloom will get you nowhere.
This is what HTC said about why the new OTA didn't get a sense update even tho alot of us were pissed about it.
I understand how important it is for you to have the latest software available for your device. We work with Sprint to determine which of their branded HTC devices will receive software updates. If your carrier does not request an update for the device we cannot create or host it. For the most up to date information regarding your carrier’s decision to update the device we recommend contacting them.
HTC cannot disclose any information regarding ROM updates until the carrier approves them. I cannot answer any questions or comments regarding any other company’s or manufacturer’s practices. I can tell you it is an industry standard to provide updates for a device for 18 months after its introduction. “Google has announced a partnership with manufacturers and cellular providers to keep all devices up-to-date in Android OS for an 18 month period from the date of launch. HTC and our native carriers were included in this list.
The one exception would be if a device's hardware does not meet the requirements of the update.” This refers to the base operating platform, Android, not the interface of the device. While we do make HTC Sense, our service providers have the final say on what is included in any update that is created for their branded devices.

Lol thanks virus ROM synergy is sweet using it. You should check his work also he fixed alot of it.
Why desperate for 3.0?
I am trying to understand why everyone is so desperate for Sense 3.0. I have run the leaked GB with Sense 3 and it is no great shakes - mostly window dressing with very little added functionality. I went back to a previous version of Sense just because it is simpler and does 99% the same stuff.
I really do not see people buying a phone in order to get the next version of Sense...

I agree with this part. I am not looking at buying for Sense 3.0. I am buying the EVO3D for the updated hardware. Also I am sure that I am not the only one.

I will buy it for the hardware too! The 3D looks great. I was referring to someone else who indicated that the version of sense would be a reason to buy (or not buy) a phone. When in my opinion, later versions of Sense do almost nothing new for the phone.
Just my opinion after using 3.0 for a week or so.

Wait, what???
I'm sorry, but having the Quick Settings in the task bar pull down, the last used apps in there, too, a better lock screen system, better apk management, more options, etc, etc, is NOT just window dressing

No, that's also not exclusively Sense 3.0, which is what he was talking about. that can be seen in Sense 2.1 Which actually runs very nice on the EVO.
I've tried both Virus B1.1.3 (Sense 3.) and MikG 1.01 and 1.02 (Sense 2.1 + 3)
Here is my experience.
Virus's Revolution B1.1 and up REQUIRES SD Partition. flashing the ROM will WIPE THE SD CARD, it states it right on the tutorial. "Back up yo ****, this is deletin' yall!!" (Paraphrasing.)
After doing everything, backing up SD, partitioning card, converting partition, installing ROM. it is VERY pretty, the carousel effect is hypnotizing. But it just wasn't stable enough and wasn't fast enough for my liking. Apps frequently crashed and the Rosie kept needing to restart because it was too big to sit in the Memory. I even did all the tricks to try and keep it from having to do that.
MikG 1.02 is pretty quick, not the fastest ROM I've ever used, but in terms of other Sense roms, it's right up there with the rest of them. Really, the only thing I can see that is missing from the pure Sense 3 variant is the carouselling Homescreen and huge updated Weather widget. the Weather app that opens looks like Sense 3 though, which is odd, because in Virus's it's Sense 1 or 2.
