[Q] Goldcard Question - G2 and Desire Z General

I have a 16gb miniSD and I attempted to make it into a goldcard using the windows app. That sd had stuff (music and apps) in it. Did making it into a goldcard while it had stuff in it possibly change or damage the existing data inside it?
If it is permanently a goldcard, how do I stop it from being so? Is there a way to completely wipe and format everything?
PS. Accidentally placed this in the wrong forum. =/

You were supposed to format it in the phone..then change the hex through hex editor..then put in your phone and downgrade and if you no longer need it as a gold card you do a clear through storage and sd in the settings menu
Sent from my HTC DesireZed

I used the gold card method posted up within the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=832503
I don't know too much about the technicalities of exactly how these gold cards work. But in the method I linked, you have to start with a blank, newly formatted card. I backed up my files from my SD card onto my PC, formatted the SD card, made it into a gold card, then restored my files.
If you want to stop it being a gold card, then re-format it.

[Q] Upgrading SD card

I picked up an 8GB SD micro to upgrade the stock 2GB. What's the easiest/best way to upgrade it without messing up the various applications that are using it? Can I just drag-and-drop from the phone over USB to the new card in a reader, then swap? Or are there partitions, etc to worry about. I'm not using apps2sd or anything special currently.
there shouldn't be any partitions. i believe if you just copy/paste everything over, it should be fine.
Thanks, seems to work well.
I decided to first format the card in the Aria, then drag over the files and swap:
Menu->SD card->Unmount
Remove original card, insert new one
Menu->SD card->Format
Remove new card, insert original one
Attach USB, go into disk mode
New card in PC
Drag and drop all but .android_secure and LOST.DIR (which were created by format)
Eject, unmount, etc
Swap cards
Good to go!
well done.
I am receiving my Aria this week and want to immediately swap out the 2gig card for a 16gig card I own. Can I do this before I even power up the phone for the first time? Is there anything on the 2gig card that the first boot needs?

Will this work if the SD Card has partitions? I want to upgrade to a larger card. I want to make sure all apps move and work properly.

regarding the gold card after downgrade

After all the downgrade/flash custom rom, can I just use this "gold card" SD like a regular storage card on phone and can this card still be able to accessed by other media reader/computer?
If I format this SD card for whatever reason, is it still a "gold card" or I need to modify it again with the Hex tool.
You can use it just like a normal card. If you format it, it is not a goldcard anymore, but that does not really matter.
It is just a normal card but with special bits when it was formated as a "gold card". If you want to keep it as gold card, just delete contents rather than formating it.

Partitioning SD card. Need a little advice.

Hey kids. I've just flashed to CM7 and i figure now is as good a time as any to FINALLY partition my SD card and use it like i should. Problem is, i've been moving apps to the SD card for months. No doubt there are remnants of app installations from prior ROMS. How do i go about cleaning out the dead weight before i backup the card and partition it?
You can backup your SD Card the reformat it with Windows in a card reader, put it back and partition it, boot up and the required files will write themselves, then move the stuff you KNOW you need back to the SD Card. Flash a new ROM or A2SD and you should be set

[Q] SD Card and Back Up Question

hello everyone, i backed up my files using the CWM recovery, this may seem like a simple question (im a noob) but where do the backed up files go? i do not see them on my sd card or on the nook (built in memory) can i delete the backed up files? or get to them? Also a member here told me to buy 2 sd cards is a good idea, one with all the info and the other empty for apps and music so i can keep the sd card in the nook without it going to CWM everytime i boot, but if i buy a new sd card do i need to format it? or just use it out of the box and into the nook, will my apps still work since the new sd card is empty and my files?

Always format new cards. And never use Windows format. Use this. A freebie. Windows format can corrupt uSD.
Your nandroid (CWM) backup will be in the Backup folder in the ClockworkMod folder. It should be on your uSD.
One uSD is enough as long as it's large enough to hold all you want to use. I've always used at least a 16Gb card. Always name brand (SanDisk). You really don't want to swap back and forth. As long as your nandroind is on removable memory you should be safe. Some people copy their nandroind backups to their desktop computers for safe-keeping. A bit OCD but not really a bad idea.
Ok very good info! But I use the nook color and I do not think I need to format the sd card?

If you use the uSD as flashable CwMR, then you wouldn't want to reformat the card, otherwise, you have to recreate it once again if you want to do a backup or install.
what i mean is my new sd card do i put it in my nook and format it thru cyannogen mod setting? says umount and format sd card, cause if i put the same CWM on the new sd card everytime i boot it will take me to cwm

Others have formatted their uSD cards in their NC's but as a general rule I don't. I know I sound like a one-trick pony but one needs to start with a good formatted card otherwise everything else is for naught.
The reason I ask is because I don't want to keep pulling out my SD card everytime I turn my nook on, so if I were to format the new SD card how would I do it?

Either you confuse about CwM uSD or I (we) do not fully understand your issue.
1. If your uSD is a flashable CwM Recovery then it WILL BOOT into CwM Recover EVERY TIME you boot up with that uSD card plugged in. That's the way it is
2. If your uSD is for normal usage, you should NOT have any problem leaving the uSD card in the NC when booting up.
sorry i should have better explained, ok i get it now, my question in simple form is do i have to format the new sd or just simply pop it in the nook and go

[Q] Can't format my sd card!

So about a week ago I downloaded new version of icecream tosti's ICS rom (v0.6) and booted into CWM to mount my sd card and move the zip file over. I noticed that it was taking longer time to move the file than it usually does but I let the process finish. I unmounted the card and went to install the zip from sd card but couldn't find it. I tried to move the file again and again but couldn't get it to copy the file onto the sd card. I tried moving files from the sd card onto the computer but that was not possible either. It wouldn't show me errors and complete the moving process but it actually didn't move anything. I thought there was something wrong with the sd card so I tried formatting it... no success!
I have used easues partition manager, mini tool partition manager, hp sd card utility, panasoic sd card formatter, tried formatting it through windows native options, used disk management, even tried formatting it through CWM but i kept on getting the same error, can't format. I was placing the micro sd card in a usb card reader and sd card reader in order to format it through computer. I have also tried using different computers but that didn't solve the issue. The problem is that every time I try to install a rom it reverts back to an older revision of the rom with old settings that I set before. It seems to me some how the sd card is locked in a previous state and it is write protected and won't let me format it.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can solve my problem or does this mean the sd card is gone and I have to buy a new one?
I have exactly the same problem after using NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.3-CM9 V1.3. It seems this sd card was frozen, nothing on it can be changed. If I copy a file to it on computer, it shows copy successful, but that file cannot be read, and if refresh it shows nothing have changed in the SD card.
Anyone have any idea about this?
I have three broken micro sd cards now, two from WP7 and this one from ICS.

I waited a couple of weeks for someone to answer on this forum and tried all methods possible to format the sd card or revive it somehow but no luck so just recently purchased a new sandisk class 4 sd card hopefully this one doesn't go bad either. I just wish I knew why it was happening so I don't repeat the process again and end up damaging the card.
Have you tried to format with MAGLDR and after it on windows 7 pc ?
I did that, also followed this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1283232
Contents on this sd card just refuse to change.
is there a solution to this coz im having the same problem and cant find a way to fix this
you can do it by this software's :
HDD Low Level Format Tool
MiniTool Partition Wizard
EASEUS Partition Master
Partition Wizard Home Edition
.
.
.
.
but i dont know how create swap and ext4 partitions on sd .
This happen because you formatted the card on the phone. I never recommend to format on the phone the cards but on PC. Try the application I posted on computer with FAT32 in 32768 unit size.
