Huh? I am confused. The above link warns against posting leaked ROMs. It doesn't say anything about posting a link to a news report regarding a leaked change log.
Anyway, thank you to the op. Yes the information is out there, but for folks new to the forum it's nice to have all the information laid out in one place.

No date yet, but...

Just for the record, Sprint had everyone take the Android 2.1 training today, update should be soon.
Oh, really? Should that make me excited?
Are you being sarcastic?
Yes. We need a sub-forum for 2.1 release news/theories.
This makes what, 150 2.1 release threads?
All I was doing was trying to help by giving an ACTUAL update rather than a rumor, and even stated there was no official release set. Not sure what bit you in the ass.
yet ANOTHER useless post about 2.1

Ignore the crap replies. Thank you for your first-person, factual update on the release.
Yes, thanks for the update!
Please keep them coming as you hear or see more!
I wasn't intending anything negative to the OP, just the fact that there are already hundreds of threads that this could have been put in. Thank you for the info though.
we already have 2.1 and all the goodies we need. im just waiting to see the " 2.6.29 source is released" thread!!!! then i can finally go to bed before 3am again

this has nothing to do with the date of the release. he was providing factual information.
thank you
Thank you for the update. It is appreciated. This definitely deserved a new thread.
Some of us are looking forward to 2.1 roms without random audio problems, etc. The official Sprint release will instantly mean an enormous number of fixes for the roms that everyone here uses (nearly all of which were based on the Sprint leak anyway). So we most certainly do not "already have 2.1 and all the goodies we need" from my perspective.

another 2.1 thread OMG!! what a jackass! i hate you. haha just kidding just seems like every one got super pissed and i wanted to jump on the hate wagon. its not you we hate tho its 2.1.
I guess I fall in line with the first few replies... we already knew training was coming soon and release is in May according to Sprint Documents. What more did we need to know? This thread only says exactly what has been stated 100 times this week. Thanks..
Edit: It's not that I hate the info.. I just feel like this could be posted under any of the other 20 recent 2.1 threads scattered across the next 10 pages.

Agreed. Even the most stable of the 2.1 ROMs based on the Sprint leak, are still pretty buggy. In my opinion, the leak that all of our ROMs are based on is nowhere near final code. I will honestly be happy to have a stock, fully functional ROM with some minor speed tweaks. To date, I still think Gumbo 1.5c was the best Hero ROM, I just can't bring myself to go back to 1.5. I just love some of the 2.1 features and apps too much.

Probably mid-June
The official release sounds like it's going to be June but as Cyanogen pointed out on Twitter yesterday, Froyo source is already tricking into AOSP which means between now and release, CM will have more and more Froyo features.
there is a beta, right?
Engadget says they got a beta of both 2.2 and adobe's 10.1 flash player on their demo phone. If Adobe and google are sending these out, someone is going to dump the ROM and it will be available here. I'm itching for some frozen yougart...

Get official JI6 from KIES or online?

So apparently the OTA from T-Mobile is supposed to reach everyone by the end of October. I may get it tomorrow, or I may get it October 31 - I don't know. Frankly, I don't want to wait till the later. Anyone know if its possible to get the official JI6 update from other sources like KIES or online? I realize many people have probably already provided it in the Android Development forum but I am looking for it from an official source, either directly from Samsung or T-Mobile.
Thanks!

Your contradicting yourself, or at least not thinking it through. The OTA *IS* the official distribution method. Samsung KIES is NOT an official distribution method for North American phones. Hate it or like it as you see fit. The only way your going to get it directly is in an unofficial manner, which is the whole reason why JI6 has been made available in the dev forum since it leaked.
Your choices are either wait for the OTA, or flash the JI6 leak that is available.

We can argue semantics all we want. The bottom line is still that I am looking for the update directly from Samsung or T-Mobile ("official" or not); preferably I would like to not have to wait until the OTA hits my phone which could be a while.
For now, your best bet is to install leaked JI6 until someone posts the official JI6 or until someone verifies both builds are same.

That's not going to happen. Either wait for the OTA or like I said, get it in the dev forum. OTA is the only official distribution method you're going to get.
Edit: Actually, you could wait a few weeks, maybe November/December and you might be able to buy a new phone with it.

It's not a semantics argument. The official method is the OTA. There is no other official path.
Now, onto semantics. The leaked JI6 build was gathered unofficially from Samsung's official KIES app. It's been available for about a week. So, it was unofficially obtained from an official source. This is as official as a direct source is going to get.
What you "prefer" isn't really going to alter these truths.

Confirmation **Fascinate Update Around the 10th, OTA**

Just spoke to Samsung Rep and was told we will get an update next week around the 10th and IT WILL BE FROYO. It will also be Over the Air (OTA) not Samsung Kies.
Here is the exact transcript:
Visitor: I heard there will be one on the 10th
Visitor: Is that true?
Sylvester: Yes, there will be an update, but we can not speculate the exact estimated time of arrival as this would to inaccurate information and confusion.
Sylvester: However you will get a notification on to your device as it is an over the air update.
Visitor: What will the update bring?
Sylvester: It will come with more features for the phone.
Visitor: Such as? FroYo?
Sylvester: Yes, it will be Froyo.
Visitor: Will I get the update this week or next week?
Sylvester: It should be available in the next week.
sweet, if true. Been waiting to root for this to come first.
Well. That's a relief. But only those on DI01 on the stock ROM are getting it...
Plus you will probably lose root.
In other words, if you like being unrooted, wait for a dev to repackage it.

I've seen so many of these threads across the message boards. So many confirmed dates have come and gone.
Move along.. nothing to see here
Ill believe it when i see it because on andriod central they had a screenshot of the VZW and it said 1/10/11 Samsung Fascinate MR2 meaning maintenance release 2 aka DL09 or DJ05
who cares anyway we have both of those MR already and birdman and Jt are compiling GB
EDIT: I now have to retract this sarcasm because I also had it (supposedly) confirmed. We'll just have to wait and see.

Can someone tell me why a MR has to be DJ05/DL09 and can't be Froyo? VZW has released MR updates for windows mobile devices to take them from WM6.1 to WM6.5 or similar jumps in the WM world, and they were classified as a maintenance release. Why can't Froyo be a MR update as well? Do I think the update will be Froyo, no, but I don't see why a MR can't be Froyo.

John: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: There is alot of buzz going around about an update for VZW Fascinate
Visitor: Will it be Froyo?
John: I understand that you want to know if Froyo be available for your phone, am I correct?
Visitor: I know you can't speculate, so I wanted to know if you had any concrete info
John: Yes, it is the Froyo update and it will fix all the issues.
John: This should become available in the next few days.
Visitor: Gotcha. You guys are definately confirming it is Froyo .... no speculation.
John: Yes.
Visitor: Thank you.

I think where there is smoke there is fire. There has been so much going on lately from the false 2.2 webpage update and kies update, to the leaked update information and now the reps actually confirming dates. Leads me to believe there is a good chance it will be froyo.
I'm not confident in verizon's ability to keep a froyo leak from slipping out so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Keep in mind the tweet's from samfirmware, not Samsung. Since May, he/they have posted about five "X is coming by X" messages and they've been wrong all five times. With phone's already shipping with 2.3.4 in some parts of the world I'd say we'll start seeing updates soon. Maybe I should tweet that - it would be as accurate a guess as samfirmware's.

Why should they? They've committed to nothing at the time we bought the phone and publicizing dates and then potentially not hitting them would just piss people off. Besides, this way, it's kind of like Christmas.
Now August, it was July first. Ehh..

I was talking with Samsung today and I asked "so we can expect the 2.3.4 in next 30 days for sgs2" and Sammy guys told me it will be before but they dont know exactly when still no information... They dont know the date ...
Also they said that they are planning to release Ginger for SGS next month (or this for some countries dunno) and 2.3.4 version in september - October
which firmware KIES need detect to make the 2.3.4 available?
2.3.3 with 2.3.3 kernel and 2.3.3 CSC??
i am interested in the answer to that last post also.
i updated my s2 to KE7 through odin as KIES wasnt offering it to vodafone handsets quick enough. will kies even offer it to me when it is available?
