What blotware is safe to remove? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know which tmobil or htc crap can we remove. I am on stock 2.2.1. Confirmed list would be great.

I'd like to see this list, too.
I removed Asphalt through Titanium. But when I tried to remove the Monopoly demo, the phone froze up, needed battery pull, app remained.

Use root explorer.

With root explorer, I safely deleted:
Monopoly
Rock band
3 Yahoo apks
Stock app
Demo video
May remove some more in the future, but I feel better with some of those blatant pieces of bloat gone. What have you removed?

I personally use root explorer but I don't delete them I just move them to a folder in my sd card just incase I would have the need for them.
Not only did I take out tmo bloat like app pack, tmo tv, demo videos, demo games but some sense ui too like tweeter(peep), stocks!
What folder are those apps in?
Moving them sounds like a good idea to me.

Just select the files in your file explorer and use the "move" option, or cut/paste (though I've only seen move as an option).

Hmm, I don't see all those in there such as Tweeter and that damn AppPack.
Where are those, or what are they named? Thanks!

Twitter is HTC Peep ( I think). What's app pack? is that all T-mobile junk? Those are all separate apps.

dude titanium backup is by far the best for bloatware, not only is it one click to remove, but you can do backups as well just in case.

Which apps have you removed? Cause when I removed alot I started to have syncing.. My phone just kepted syncing and getting errors.......

well you gotta be careful as to what you remove, you cant just go delete crazy, some apps are tied to the system. for instance i deleted monopoly, amazon, and the T-Mobile app pack. No problems. im curious what have you deleted? and did you do a backup via recovery before you did?

yeah thats your problem righ there. Things like amazon, app pack those are tmobile add on apks, the things like peep, modes, friendstream are built in with the software, therefore can cause the system to not respond correctly. id say restore from a recovery and delete only simple things, nothing connected to the "My Sense"

I've only removed amazon, T-Mobile App Pack, and Monopoly and havent had any issues at all. I would say you could get away with deleting all the games it comes with since theyre on the sdcard, like i said anything deleted thats connected with the "My Sense" (i.e. friendstream, my modes, etc) may cause trouble. hope this helps!

{Q} Application Restore via Gmail

Does anyone know what it is in a ROM, that when you sign into Gmail, it downloads all your applications that were installed on your device? Ive noticed alot of ROM's lately that are lacking this feature, and was curious as to what allows a ROM to do this.
Thanks
Your market saves all your paid apps. The rest you have to have a backup with like titanium backup

It also happens in the Glacier.
My theory is this. the first time you sign into your Google account via a Android phone it picks up the phone model. and the first time you sign in it figures you just got that phone so it will re-download the apps to that phone. and once you change ROMs and resign in it think "hey this phone already as the apps" so it doesn't kick it to the new ROM.
In any case the best thing to do is use Titanium Backup.
Sounds like a good theory to me.

Check under settings /privacy /back up + auto restore. I believe that's what the initial setup access.
I don't like it, new rom = new app install, just easier to eliminate problems not related to rom.

Thanks for the tip with WIFI calling and Ganoptimizer. These two were killing my battery and driving me nuts.

I lost my phone. I tried installing Plan B but haven't gotten a response just yet. Does anyone know if WaveSecure will install remotely? Also, I noticed a feature in the GPS settings that says locate phone when lost or something to that effect. I have ICS beta 7.0 installed fyi. How would I go about using the service?

I know you can find the device with latitude. I don't know how though. You will have to Google that. That's the reason I have where's my Droid app installed. It already saved me twice. One of the best apps ever.

I just bought this phone.

Couldn't resist myself seeing as I am now far too pissed with the crappy radio chip in the Gnex. Cost me 580 euros on my vacation here in Finland.

Best phone ever. Enjoy!
Enjoy man. I also had a GNexus previously, and I found that the hardware on SGS3 is so much better. Camera, storage, processor, everything is much better. You just have to learn how to deal with Samsung bloatware and be happy
right choice
I can live with TW for now.

You can always put a different launcher on the stock ROM

Please note he said deactivate, not remove. You can still freeze a lot of the bloat without rooting. Go into system settings - application manager - all. Select the bloat in question then select disable. The bloat will no longer be able to run and won't appear in the app drawer.

But a lot of the bloatware can be removed with root only. The easiest way imo is to root and use titanium backup to freeze them.

Yes I know you need root to remove it. He asked how to deactivate it without rooting. Deactivating != removing.
