Droid incredible slcd root? - Droid Incredible General

Got an slcd dinc with November ota update. Is there any way to root it? Thanks

yes use unrevoked to root it but you will have to also use a custom recovery image

Can you point me to a custom recovery image and how to do that? Thanks.

I think I found it. Does this link look right?

You can just download ROM Manager, scroll down and click flash alternate recovery, and it'll install the amon ra which is, so I've heard, compatible with SCLD screens. There are some ClockworkMod versions that are compatible, but I don't know for sure which ones they are. I think 2.5.1.1 works? You can flash different versions of ClockworkMod in ROM Manager as well.

Yes that is how to do it follow those directions

That worked. Thanks.

Hboot

So I really want to try out the new mashup rom, however it requires the latest version of hboot.
I have a few questions regarding hyboot.
1. What is hboot
2. Are there any advantages/improvements/differences between the newest version and the one that came stock?
3 . If I upgrade to this and find out I do not like the rom, would a nandroid back up resore the previous hyboot?
4. If a nandroid doesn't restore the previous, does cm6 work with the newest version? If not, how would I go about downgrading?
I think you mean HBOOT...

Lol, any info?
2. Nothing important.
3. No.
4. It should, but I've never run CM6.

1. Bootloader.
2. none that I know of or noticed
3. No a nandroid does not change bootloader. You need a special img file to use in hboot to flash back to an older version and also need S-OFF (unrevoked forever) to do so
4. You should not have to update hboot to install any rom. The latest OTA works fine on any hboot I believe, I have hboot .79 on my phone. You don't need .92 for anything to work properly. CM6 will work fine with all hboots.
hyboot is far superior to hboot....... duh

Thanks for mocking me. Incredible does rom (the cm6 mash up) needs hboot. 92 A
Adrynalyne has a ROM (Fourth Wave) that needs .92 HBOOT as well. First mock is free.
yes .92 is the latest and it rules. lol.
apparently the new kernel source is picky about hboot for some reason.
there are some differences with .92 but who cares really. if you need it for the rom/kernel you want then flash it. plus you now will have the latest.
can someone post a link for the 92. HBOOT i have been looking for it to Flash please

Would I upgrade this like I would with a radio?
Installed like a radio, ended up in the reboot loop in the boot loader. Had to access clock work recovery and do a nandroid backup.
now I have the latest version without any additional problems
I also got in to an hboot loop after updating to .92. I was able to get it running again by accessing Clockworkmod and doing an advanced restore of boot from my last nandroid backup.
I guess I just can't help but tinker with these things. One day it will catch up to me I guess.
FYI, the hboot loop occurs because installing hboot wipes your kernel. Install a kernal and you'll be good to go, no nandroid required.

Yeah, that didn't work for me. Flashed the new HBOOT, stuck in loop, pushed Kings #4 w/recovery, still stuck in HBOOT loop. Reflashed ROM w/o wipe, everything's back to normal.

Thanks for the link... anyone have a hashfile to compare the download to?
The .92 HBOOT has a larger partition size than the previous versions, so yes there is an advantage to the newest bootloader. Just be advised that flashing the .92 will result in your old backups (nandroids) to no longer work. You'll have to make new backups.

[Q] Upgrade EVO to 3.29.651.5 Before Root??

I just recieved my EVO and it currently is running build number 3.26.651.6 and I revieved an update notification for 3.29.651.5 and did not execute the update. I intend to Root my phone using unrevoked3 and want to know if I can upgrade it before rooting or need to update it first and then upgrade using a custom ROM. Your help is greatly appreciated....Chuck
If you plan on rooting your phone why even bother with the update. Just root and flash a rom based on the latest OTA. I don't have an answer if unrevoked works with the latest OTA.
Revoked definately works, cause I just got my Evo a few days ago, and did all updates. Now I'm rooted and running CM6.
Depends on if you want to install a different ROM or not. I'd say go for it, root, and then create a nand backup as your original.
I was in the exact same situation. I did the official OTA update so it would flash all the new radios, PRI, PRL, etc. Then ran Unrevoked and installed Amon's RA recovery, then ran Unrevoked Forever, and then flashed Fresh.
Is there an advantage to running Amon's RA? I can't find a tutorial on how to install that. I'm using Clockwork recovery, and I'm just not a fan... I hated it on my Hero! =)

You can also flash Amons RA when you run Unrevoked 3.21.

Oops.. guess I'm too late, but for anyone else wondering, I would say do all the updates up to 3.29 so everything is latest.. radios etc. Then root and make a nandroid. Now you have rooted 3.29 stock, which is a good place for first time rooters to start. Also this way you keep all your data if rooted stock is all you want.
All I am interested in is Wireless tethering on stock android. Is it possible to do the OTA update no that i am rooted and then root again using Unrevoked? Thanks for the help...Chuck

Make a nandroid, then try and do the OTA. See what happens. If it goes through, you'll lose root, so just re-root and install wireless tether and you're done. If not, you'll have to grab a stock rooted rom and latest radios/wimax and flash them all, then add the wireless tether app.
I would have advised updating. It would get you the updated radio and wimax in a more proper fashion.

Why isn't rooting and custom ROMs as easy as the standard Desire!?

I've done a fair few flashes with my Desire and always found it quite easy to follow and do, but I am so, so, so confused about how to go about attacking the HTC Desire.
Essentially, I want to root it and install a custom ROM (maybe change a radio, that's it). However, there is no set of instructions in any one thread, it's all over the place.
So far, i've managed to permroot my brothers phone using Visionary. Now, the next step is getting Clockwork Recovery. However, there seems to be two version 2.x (installed by ROM manager) and version 3.x. Apparently the former doesn't work for CM7... but I cannot find how to actually get Clockwork 3.x installed (easily...).
What are the most popular DesireHD ROMs and do they all require Clockwork 3.x? Also, what is S-Off... and do I need it!?
Because standard Desire does not have nearly as tight security as DHD has. You need S-OFF to get clockworkmod, and if you want to flash CWM 3.x, you need ENG S-OFF. Only gingerbread roms need CWM 3.x.
S-OFF: Phone security off, internal memory becomes read/write, you can flash anything you want, no version checks etc.

Hmm... OK, I mean this is for my brother who is in no way technically inclined Perhaps we'll just leave it rooted for now and see if an automated tool appears for the Desire HD in the future
Cheers!
It does not get much more automated than my Radio S-OFF Tool / ENG S-OFF Tool..

I suppose so. So basically, the steps are:
Root phone - Done
S-Off/Eng S-Off
Install Clockwork Mod
Install ROM
The bit I find trouble with is how to do the clockwork mod bit. It seems like CM is the best DHD ROM, but that requires Clockwork Recovery 3.whatever and to get that installed you have to go through a ton of SDK stuff. Is there an easy way to get it installed?

Simple answer, no.
Please try following the advice you are being given and search the development forum, if your not willing/able to devote the time to reading up on S-OFF and installing CM7 please leave well alone and save us all a little time
To be honest I think that dhd is quite easy to root. You have one click tool in stickies so really a monkey could do it.
I'm attempting to root my girlfriends galaxy s and it's really complicated. Download this download that check if you have 3button startup, get Odin and so on....

One Click-tool? For the latest update you have to downgrade, that looks not so easy?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yeah, downgrading makes it a bit harder, true. But after downgrading it is a breeze.
Wating for a new tool or updated visionary?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Visionary will not do it, but I might make a tool to handle all those downgrade commands. I am busy now, however, so you should not wait for it.

I wouldn't hold your breathe, whilst there is a simple-ish downgrade route the chances of anyone going to the great effort of needlessly finding and exploiting a new security flaw are remote. Anyone desperate for root will probably take the downgrade route and anyone unable to grasp the steps involved would probably be better served by a stock rom
I'm looking forward for an automatic tool to downgrade...Jkoljo

Tech support, without root access you are unlikely to do anything terminal to your DHD software wise, so that should limit your tech support to hardware issues. With root access ham fisted people are returning phones with user inflicted software problems

Yes,seems to be no problems there.
Come from CM7 Nightly,then I did a wipe data/factory reset.
Installed now CM 6.1.1 Froyo 2.2 ROM,works.
Did a nandroid backup,works.
Then tried to restore,works too
CWM 3.0.0.5 seems to work now with 2.2 ROMs too
i was on the 2.xxx recovery in rom manager and it prompted me to flash new recovery of 3.0.0.5. so I dont think its for people who already have 3.0.0.5
I had 3.0.0.5 already and yes it did promt me to update to 3.0.0.5 because proir to this everyones recovery in rom manager said 2.5.1.3 even if they were on 3.0.0.5, so this is for everyone.

Amon_RA recovery

Hey guys, Just got my acer iconia yesterday and its already rooted, I got an EVO 3D and i need to flash so this will hold me over till we find root for the 3D. And besides this is a really nice table for sure. What Im wondering is would it be possible to have Amon_RA recovery ported over to this device. CMW is good but Amon_RA is great and, atleast with phones much more dependable.
