Root explorer - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to you use astro instead of root explorer or what about es launcher?
XDA App-HTC Glacier

I regularly use Astro for file management.

Depends what your trying to do... if your just moving stuff around on your sd card astro will work fine but if your trying to access or change /system files you'll need to use a root enabled explorer

Astro File Manager functions on My Rooted Epic

I'm trying to copy an apk file from the root of my sdcard and paste it to system/app folder. It's not letting me paste to that folder. I have seen in the past that there is certain things you have to type into terminal emulator? Someone please help me lol. This is driving me nuts.
Thanks
Tom
You may want to try root explorer. Don't quote me on this but I don't think astro has root permissions.

Astro can't mount the directory as rw. Root explorer is a couple of bucks and really simple. That or do it over adb.

System apps not deleting after root

I have rooted my new phone. I knower I have permanent root because in boot loader I have s=off
So my problem is when I use android mate to delete a system app like flicker.apk it says deleted successful but it still shows in system app list and in app drawer even after reboot. Any ideas?
Don't know what it is but titanium backup deleted the system files I wanted real ready. How this helps anyone else who runs into this problem

Just delete them manually yourself with some kind of file manager. I use root explorer but others do the same.

+1 for root explorer. Also this thread is kind of pointless.
I use root and astro, each for different purpouses. I generally use astro because it just works. I use root explorer to fiddle around with the os, also unzipping in it does not seem to work and the ui is a bit depressing so that's my main reason for astro. (Root explorer therefore for you is kindof pointless if you don't have a rooted phone)

Can't find files using astro or es.

I am searching my phone with es file explorer and cant find any of my game saves, I even checked search root and nothing. I thought they were in data/data but when i open the /data folder nothing is showing... any help would be nice.
All games are different. For example, Minecraft PE is in /sdcard/games/
But some can be in /sdcard/data/
Just start scrawling about.

Using es or astro i can not see the folders i want to get into. I did a tita. backup of the game, sent it to my email. edited the .xml, saved it and then sent it back to the phone and restored it. It worked, but a pain the ass at the same time. Why wont these "root" explorer apps show all the files and folders?
For ES you need to enable root...

i did that. still not showing enough. it also doesnt show sd-ext.

Root Browser (File Manager) JRummy Apps. I have the paid.
Included in ROM Toolbox Pro also.
ES File Explorer, I ditched root explorer. Local storage w/ auto mount root access, network storage (dropbox, drive, box etc), ftp storage, and LAN shares all in one easy interface..

I heard ES mess up systems, e.g., when you edit build.prop

Same. To the people saying that es messes up a lot... I've never had one issue with it since last october when I got my first Android device.

Yried others, but never got used to to them ...
I like MiFileExplorer_v2.3.7.25 ... :good: (It should be on the Play Store now)
Does anyone else like it more than others?
regards
Root explorer does all I need. Sometimes I use the file manager from rom toolbox, but they're pretty similar.

Ghost Commander. I've tried everything else but kept going back to that, love the simple but highly customisable UI. My only hope is more versatility in handling compressed archives.
FX Root Explorer. Great Features.
ES file explorer.
