hi.
any one who know about my problems pls help...
ive bought a xda 2 from the net and it seems like i cant make any fonecall nor recives any fone calls via my fone. its seems like its been block but i only can recieves and send sms with it, the fone have been unlock. any one who know about this probles or how to resolved it pls help and would this fone works outside the uk (Brunei) help needed pls.....
If it is blocked in UK it will word in rest of the world, you need to unlock the phone or try an O2 sim card before you give up though.
have been unlock but cant make fone call
the fone have been unlock. which i can use the vodafone sim and o2 for sms.
a gsm triband phone will work on all gsm networks which use 900/1800/1900
if it's blocked even if the network support those frequency then maybe it's a imei nr block but then i suppose it would not be able to send sms
what makes it blocked
what makes it blocked in the first place. hope it will work back home in brunei.
suhardee, a phone is blocked if reported stolen or if a claim for insurance is paid out, once the insurers pay out they want to make sure that it cant be used again on the networks, would make more sense to reclaim the broken phones and get some of their money back by selling them.
hemmm
so basically ive bought a stolen phone or a fone which have been claim for its insurance. but just hope it works back home in brunei coz ive unlocked it already. thanks for clearing this up for me. but how would the fone compeny blockd it coz i didnt bought the fone with any sim card is it via the imei number? coz that is the logical explainations. i think it might work in brunei coz at home eventhow mobile is the same advance as in the UK but i dont think the mobile compeny in brunei is that advance.
this forum have a automatic dictionary which mean that if you hold your pointer on top of the place where you wrote imei then you'll get a popup explaining 100% what it is and where it's located
thanks
thanks every one who makes things clear for me... by this weekend i will know if he fone works at home or not.....
Hello, I'm New To The Site But I Been Told You Guys Are Some Of The Most Talented People On The Net. Well Str8 To The Point, I Have The Wizard But I Hate Tmobile Internet Service So I Would Like To Know, If I Unlock It Will I Be Able To Use Cingulars Internet Service
Well if I get you right, you want to use the Internet service of another provider but using your regular SIM ....
that is not posible, since the internet conection of the provider works with their sim card and not with a specific phone sorry!!
No, I Will Get The Cingular Service But I Jus Want To Make SUre It Will Work Before I Make Any Moves
Oh in that case it's no prob.
look in the Forum for simunlocking ... the program is called lockwiz simply download it .. and youre ppc will work with every provider even overseas !!
Now that's simply using another SIM card ... you could have a little Trouble if you want to upgrade your CID and change the Tmobile software installed on youre phone though ... depending on your chip version.
Thanx Alot.
Hello,
I'm from Belgium and I need to use the G1 for my work. I would like to use it without a sim card (or make the phone using the data of mine) but it seems impossible for the device to connect on internet.
I have just received the device today and I really need help. I have tried to find something on the forum but the only interesting thing I have found seems to say that it is possible.
Google is even worse than Apple which is already worse than Microsoft.. is there any good company in this world...
what do you mean use it without a sim card? As in the telephony and data connections with having to use a t-mobile sim card or any simcard?
This is a sim card phone meaning it has to have a simcard in order for you to use the telephony or edge/3g connections. No way around that.
And on a side note, if you want help you probably shouldn't spread your opinions about things that you don't know about and things you make assumptions for.
I can get into Android without having a Sim card inserted on Dev Phone. WLAN works without it.
But when there is a card inserted I cannot skip Sim pin to do things without having mobile operator service.

This is a "device" that is able of making call... this is not a phone.. you can't call iphones and htc devices "phones"... I don't care about the phone feature, I just need a small device with linux. If it was a phone, it would not need a gmail account... don't talk about things you don't know.

the fact is that no sim card is working... I'm currently using 3G with my HTC Shift, and using Edge/Gprs with my HTC Touch .. and no problem.. but the HTC Dream doesn't recognize the data plan !
I guess I know much more than you .. and my opinion is like 99% of user should be having this issue... what kind of phone are impossible to use like that ? I have 3 months to make a big project on that phone and I don't even know if it is possible to make it work without playing with hardspl.
That's crazy to see more protection than iPhones, and other htc phones.... 2 weeks to be able to order the phone and then I don't even know if we can make it work in this country ... GREAT !

Your issue is an APN issue.
Read one of the APN threads or learn to use the search Mr. Know-it-all.
Guys, maybe a bit of stupid question, but...
When I power on the device, without a sim, there's no menu, just a red cross for the emergency calls. And that's all.
Is developers from SE mentally retarded for not providing offline operating mode, or all others mobile brands (htc, nokia, siemens...) are stupid that they allow users using the full capabilities of their gadgets even when there's no SIM inside it?
Thinking that 1GHz of CPU WLAN,GPS,BT etc... is far more than simply a low class mobile handset made just for in/out going calls.
And about the fonts? There's no option changing the size.
Is this really a SE problem and not Android related then? I've not looked into the matter as of now couse i'm on the bus. But i know you can do what you ask on WM phones, so this might be an Android error.

I've noticed this isue for all of SE phones (Not Working Without a SIM!). It's a kind of tradition, or a company policy for SE to lock their phones with a sim card.
Nexus One could be used without a sim, as most of the HTCs even under android. For windows mobile I am sure that it's ok without a sim. It'll take ages for SE developers to rewrite the kernel instructions on WM to lock it for SIM.
Don't use an Android phone without a sim card if you want paid apps appear in the Android market. Otherwise you will only have the option of the free ones.

I have found something about the problem:
android-tricks.blogspot.com/2009/01/using-adp1-without-sim-card.html
Maybe it is usefull and for SE X10i.
May I ask some one to test it, 'cause I still can not install phone drivers.
Get the phone unlocked and you will be able to use it offline. When I got my Rogers branded one, it was doing the exact thing which really sucked cause Im not with Rogers. So once I unlocked it, you can use it offline.
There's an app on the market called "wosim" which allows you to use the phone without a SIM. I know this works because my friend downloaded and used it. I was like, what app is this? and he showed me..
Unlock and or debrand it and it will work fine without a sim. Mine does
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
If I debrand or reflash the guarantee falls out.
Unfortunately i'm unable even to start the phone because it is operator locked and I don't have the proper sim. It is a client phone and he insist on its guarantee. And I understand him, most of the hi-tech gadgets - especially expensive ones - are complete crap and replicas in my country.
I saw that wosim require root access.
Is it possible to make a firmware backup?
And how to distinct X10a from X10i? I mean is it written somewhere in the phone or model info, inside the service menu?
wosim doesn't require root access...
how to install wosim? As I see the only way is from gmarket. But I don't have a wifi router around me and the X10i could not connect to ad-hoc networks so I can reroute my network traffic to the phone.
Can not insert a SIM card - the phone rejects it.
May I ask if someone could post wosim for me?
This:
http://android-tricks.blogspot.com/2009/01/using-adp1-without-sim-card.html
doesn't work on X10i.
When trying sqlite3, it brings error sqlite3: Not Found
and when trying to copy settings.db it brings Permission denied. Which leads me to thinking that su is not working properly on my phone

Flight mode does not provide no good if there's no sim inside, or not the correct one. Just brings me to Emergency Call.
I've got a UK S5 purchased sim free and have just made a 5 minute call in the hope the region lock will be removed, but does anyone know if there is a way to test this? I'm going abroad in a few months (Singapore) and would like to use the phone there but want to be certain this has been region unlocked beforehand.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Spend $35-$40 on online unlock service, you will be worry free mate

I don't need SIM unlocking, the phone is factory unlocked, but just want to know if there is a way to check the status of the RegionLock (before going overseas and trying another sim)

make 10-15 minutes more of calls just to be on the safe side? lol. but all kidding aside I have no idea how to check, and very quick/brief google search didn't turn up results (again very very quick search I may have overlooked it lol)..
I think you don't have to be worry about region lock. As far as i know, Singapore has the same mobile network (GSM) with Australia, theoretically you could use any sim to make phone calls in Singapore

You don't need to verify this. It's already an acknowledged fact. Samsung just wanted to reduce sales in the grey market.
Not many user seem to read your question carefully or simply don't get what the problem is..
I will have the same problem as I will go to Korea in a few month. I guess we just have to believe what Samsung said about the 5 min. call. Even trying the phone with a foreign sim card (foreign friends etc) is not sure since it will connect to the same region operators. But maybe it's worth a try!

5 m8n is not enough, use it for 1 or 2 hours with not less of 15 min of call but 3-4 calls not only one and everything will be ok ( tested on my s5 and on s4 mini) i have multiple sim of france and othrr country outside of UE so i had experience of that probleme
Has anyone found a way to check if the phone is region locked? Would receiving 5 mins worth of calls on a regional SIM card be enough or does one have to make the calls?
There are some technical approaches but why not simply insert an out of region SIM card and try making a call? Does it work - or do you get an error? If you didn't plan ahead and don't have an out of region SIM on hand, a large, local mobile shop can probably furnish one for you to test.
Even if you had to purchase a prepaid SIM by mail order.. wouldn't that be worth it to know the answer? Otherwise you could be scrambling to fix it abroad under more difficult circumstances.
----> If you are rooted, you can do an authorative check by looking at your phone's blacklist file as described here
.
Some websites say that apart from making 5 mins worth of calls its also necessary to insert a regional SIM card before turning on the phone for the first time. Is this true?

No way to know unless someone does rigorous testing. Samsung probably prefers the particulars to remain murky to make it harder for end users to buy lower priced phones from other countries.
.
How can I go about resetting my phone to as close to its factory state as possible? I want to go through the initial configuration process with the SIM card inserted as I had configured it without a SIM card.

A bit off topic in this thread. So you should start a new thread if you have any follow up questions..
But to answer, Settings > General > Backup and reset > Factory data reset > Reset
That should do what you want.
Be warned that this will delete all of your user data, files and apps. So do a backup first.
And optionally follow that by using Odin or Kies to flash a full OEM stock firmware image on the device.
The latter step isn't really necessary 99% of the time and does very little that the first step hasn't already done. But you did say.. as close as... possible
.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
did I mention that if it was my device being sold, etc, that I would also trash my encryption keys, do several dd passes over the flash memory, soft brick, repartition, then wipe again with forensic software while pondering whether I had any reasons to simply grind the handset into fine powder.. ?
Did both steps. At least if the phone decides not to work with a local sim card when I'm out of Europe I'll have a clean conscience
Thanks a million.

hi Mate, was your phone region unlocked after 5 mins of call? M planning to buy one but its from other region. Also, will it get region locked again after any update?
Yes it worked fine for me with another regions sim card. I haven't been abroad again since I updated it so I don't know if it's still region unlocked.
I just got an s8 in switzerland, but the sim card lasted no time, as no credit. I have made several calls of about 2.50 minutes each to 0800 numbers (toll free) will this work?
Thanks
