Not sure where else to ask this, wondering if other Focus users are having similar results.
I'm still on the 1 month of free Zune Pass streaming. It has really been about 50/50 for me in terms of reliability. I have full 3G signal just about everywhere I go. Anytime I go to start streaming a song, it is constantly buffering to the point where it just isn't even worth trying. Sometimes, however, it works as advertised and it's amazing.
I don't know if there is something wrong with my account, or something messed up on my phone or what. Normally, I would just hit pause and let it get a bit of a head start, but when you hit pause, it stops downloading.
Anyone else have stuttering or buffering problems with the Zune Pass on the Focus?
Thanks for any insight.

Hello all, I'll get straight to the problem and not waste any more of your time than needed as I know most of you are very busy.
I got a new HTC TyTN II and I am on AT&T in the US. My problem is that when I try to do something that streams audio or video data it will not do it. I connect to the Wi-Fi and it will do it just fine. I can open web pages and do speed tests till I turn blue, but streaming audio and video are out. I must also point out that because I live in Denver there is no 3G, I am on EDGE.
I have already talked with HTC, but they said I need to talk to the provider since the phone can do it via wi-fi. I went to a local AT&T store and said it might be my plan, they changed it from the MediaMax + 200 to the PDA connect package. I have seen no change and this was about 14 hours ago from this post. The rep also changed out my sim card as I had a Cingular 64K smartsim, they upgraded me to a AT&T 3G sim. They were unable to figure it out and suggested I call AT&T tech support (oh joy). I called and the rep I talked to said that its because I'm using an unbranded phone on the edge, when 3G hits denver this problem should go away, he also mentioned that it happens with most of the 3G phones that AT&T sells. For some reason though, this just doesn't sound right. Technically it could be done. A 64kbit audio stream is easily done via a 200kbit data EDGE connection, so I don't see why they wouldn't allow it. Just seems foolish to block these services if this is true. I just have a hard time believing this is the cause.
I have a few programs that do work, and don't work because of the data issue. Youtube mobile works, it uses a program called "Streaming Media", and the file format is .3gp, but when I stream other data, like from Orb in .3gp, it does not work, even in "Streaming Media". I have another program called Resco Radio, it enables me to listen to Shoutcast radio, but it does not work at all on the edge, on wi-fi it works fine. Then I have xstreamxm.com, they allow me to listen to XM on my mobile device using Windows Media Player. This also does not work.
Programs that do work are Windows Live Maps, Google Maps, Youtube Mobile, and internet surfing. Speed tests are coming in from 174-226kbits/sec from dslreports.com.
Knowing what you know now, what do you think the problem could be? I am open to ANY suggestion, so please write back. Thank you in advance for your time.
Sounds like you need to disable the proxy if you're on the $20 MEdia Maxx plan.
Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330171&highlight=streaming
It was a very simple search for me....
I have searched around the phone and I am not able to locate where to disable the proxy. I searched all the connection settings area and all the connections area. hmmm.....
EDIT - I found it, I had to change the settings on MEdiaNet, not My ISP. MEdiaNet settings are harder to get to which is why I missed them. You can't directly get to them from the connections page, you have to get the settings link while its dialing. I seemed to have gotten it fixed (HOORAY FOR ME! lol)
Thanks Flapjack for pointing out that thread, that really helped.
New user here, please tolerate my long post with many questions. I've had my Touch Pro 2 for a few months now, but haven't gotten into customizing it at all yet. What I'm wondering is if there is a program that can prevent my phone from accessing the internet or using any data unless I am connected to Wi-fi. I'm a University student and spend most of my time on campus, which has free Wi-fi. Occasionally while tinkering with my phone I get an error message from one program or another, and the browser instantly kicks up and leads me to a page for troubleshooting. Eventually costing me data fees.
Is there any way to prevent my phone from accessing the internet entirely unless it is connected via Wi-Fi? I found a few programs that looked like they might solve my problem, but they only seem to work when roaming. Also if anyone happens to know, is the battery drain much higher if I leave Wi-fi on all the time? I'm currently in the habit of turning it off and on when I need to use it, but if the drain is low enough I might stop bothering with the constant on/off switching.
Thanks in advance for any help you folks can offer!
PS: Are there any "must have" programs or tweaks that I should know about? Other than a few games, my phone is still entirely stock. I've looked over the "software worth installing" thread, but being new to Windows Mobile it's hard to know what is a slight tweak, and what is something that everyone should probably have.
Search for the "NoData" cab. I think it's from Modaco.
I noticed that one previously, but was under the impression that it only blocked data transfers when roaming? If that's not true, or it can be configured otherwise, then that should be exactly what I'm looking for.
I used this program for my wife's phone. It blocks your phone from accessing your carrier's data network. It turns the hardware off, I believe. Worked for me!
first you should turn error reporting off since you'll never get a message back for a fix as MS won't do anything about it half the time. And second you should be able to turn off the 3g in connection settings under communication in the settings menu. When you do that it shouldn't auto on. You don't need any software to do what you need for this. I've had mine since it came out and the settings have held up through the Tilt and the Fuze as well. Hope this helps.
There you are
Ok, this is goofy.
Wifi works great
EVDO connects to internet and works great
3g shows 3 bars, but will not connect to internet
This is true even after a hard reset. Must be a settings issue? I did a hard reset, let it set up, and still same problem.
I got the same problem. Purchased the phone yesterday morning. I never had the data plan before. I called T-Mobile twice and they told me that it can take up to 48 hours for the data to kick in. If it doesn't work by tomorrow morning, I'll give them a call again.
i got the same thing too guys. it is fine now and i got a text message from tmo so it it cuts out again i will chime back in.
buy yeah, yesterday i lost connection twice for long periods of time, like a couple of hours.
Thanks for the info! Seems pretty weird that it works when I'm in an E area, but not on 3g. Maybe different towers or something. Friggin awesome phone though!
LOL, WTF
i just tried to go on yahoo on my hd2 just now after posting and guess what.... it's out again!
OK so I pulled the battery and popped it back in and my internet is back.
i hope this isn't a hardware issue!
Yeah, this is interesting. Popped my TMo sim into my Xperia, could only get E level of service for some reason but could connect to the internet. Put the sim back in my HD2, took it to the far corner of the basement where it drops to E service and it connects to the internet. Back in 3g zone and it won't connect at all. At least it seems to have a stronger antenna than the Xperia. I'll have to give them a call and see whats going on.
there was an issue with the settings...
you can try a couple of things first...
if you are familiar with windows (which sounds like you are), you need to go change the access point name (apn) to one of 2 options...
wap.voicestream.com
epc.tmobile.com
I called into customer service about same issue. I was told to power down, remove battery and start it again and check. It worked afterward.
Maybe it was due to them activating my new data plan, from Android data to Smart phone data. I don't know, just guessing.
I thought maybe I was having this same problem yesterday..
thought eh its all in my head.

This is tmoUS, guys. They're notorious for having ****ty 3G service. No point in having HSPA+ when the majority of the people are still reliant on EDGE. Hopefully by summer you guys will get decent coverage.

wap.voicestream.com
epc.tmobile.com""
It was set to epc.tmobile.com
I tried to change it to wap.voicestream.com, but that setting errored out.
Then couldn't get the epc.tmobile.com setting to work which is strange. Soo, did a hard reset and let it set up again. Same thing. I can connect to internet with Edge, but 3g even though it shows the signal bars and everything seems great will not connect to internet, download email, update weather, etc.
I too am have this problem... Sometimes web works great, other times no web but strong 3G.... I thought I was going crazy...
My internet was working really slow yesterday when I first got the phone (5-60 kbit/s). Called up tmo to ask if maybe they had set me up with just tzones or something. The guy said "no everything looks fine here...oh wait I see there's something that needs to be reset; I'm surprised you were getting internet at all." When I asked him what it was he said he "couldn't really explain what it was", to which I replied "..."
Anyway, it seems to be working fine now. Don't know if this could be related to the problems you're having, but giving tmobile a call couldn't hurt, maybe they can flip the magic unexplainable switch for you.
Ok so I couldn't get internet for two days now, I called T-mobile twice and told me to wait 48 hours. After thinking something was fishy, I looked at my receipt from Wal-Mart where I purchased the phone and I noticed something peculiar: "REQ Android Web: 30:00". Knowing damn sure I did not purchase an android phone, I called T-Mobile for the third time, complaining, so the first guy transferred me to another operator. He checked out my account and it turned out that I didn't have any data plan at all. So he added the plan and within 20 minutes I was surfing. Everything works great. I'm getting about 850 kbps in northwest Indiana.
It's very interesting that the first two operators I called never even bothered to look at my account to see if I have a data plan.
Just discovered new regarding the no data issue.
I had the no data problem again today, even though it was working in the morning. I decided to reboot and check, but then I noticed the 'Terminate Data Connection' option when I hold down the power button. So I tried it. It killed the data connection and when I went into Google Maps, the data connection reactivated and everything was fine again.
So, it may be a bug!
Rooted Verizon Note 3 N900v on StraightTalk
Android 4.4.2 KK
The issue I'm having is slightly odd, data works fine the majority of the time but streaming stuff such as YouTube videos and Pandora songs won't work most of the time. Also sometimes data doesn't work at all and I have to turn data off and then back on a few times to get it working again. Right now Pandora works but still having issues with YouTube. Everything is working fine on my wife's OnePlus One and she's on ST as well, so I don't believe it to be a carrier issue. Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix or potential solution?
Try swapping your SIMs, check if the problem persists if you use your wife's SIMcard in your phone. There's a chance it's a SIMcard issue.
Sorry for the late reply, it's been a busy time for me. That seems to be the case! I can't believe I didn't think about that but thank you nonetheless!
If Im listening to Spotify at work or something and I'm connected to WiFi if I turn off WiFi and use LTE it doesn't know what to do I'm in a state of having LTE but it won't allow me to connect to anything unless I reboot. I'm using a TMobile version converted to OOS 9.0.12 rooted with magisk. The only thing I'm thinking is I'm using adguard as a VPN and I feel that might be messing up the handoff.
Any thoughts and help are appreciated I thank you in advance
Same problem.

Cool it's not just me
I noticed the same thing when steaming with Aimp. It's not a problem in general. Aimp is the only app in my lineup that does that. Data works, as I can browse and whatnot, even though Aimp is not detecting the switch. When switching to data, I just shutdown Aimp, wait a minute or two and fire it up again. I played around with the mobile data always active option in developer options but it didn't help.
Tmo convert - 9.0.13
It happens way before for me even in t-mobile firmware. I also did convert from t-mobile to one plus firmware with every setting retain. The handoff between LTE and wifi is very slow(The only good handoff experience i ever have for LTE and wifi is from Samsung, it switch immediately when wifi is lost). The 6T keeps hanging onto the wifi signal even when it really low and doesn't have a connection. The reverse would also apply, the 6T try to connect to known wifi and hand off too early and the connection got cut. I use youtube vance it a take some time for the connection to reconnect or I have to manually refresh, the same situation for other apps.
I just tried switching while streaming a YouTube video. The handoff was immediate when switching back and forth a few times. I'm convinced it's just certain apps that get hung up.

For me manually switching does happen immediately with youtube, it the problem when driving and you can't do that. My 6T will try to hang onto my wifi signal until it goes down to one bar and connection got cut off, then it switches. However during the hanging onto the wifi signal portion there are no connection. I do have smart switch enable.
well think I figured out the handoff issue at least my problem, using adguard as a VPN was messing with the handoff after pausing it the handoff is instantaneous
I have a similar issue when I'm at work I use Wi-Fi but when I leave work and I'm out of range of Wi-Fi it doesn't switch over to LTE a lot of times it'll just show you know my full signal but it doesn't say LTE and I have no internet then the only way I found the fix it is by rebooting my phone does anybody know how to maybe correct this and by the way I'm not using any VPN or any weird apps
I experienced the same thing when I was on T-Mobile service. About a month ago I switched back to Verizon and noticed the handoff was much faster to the point where you didn't notice and apps didn't notice. Not sure if it matters but when I switched to Verizon I was running the oneplus 6 pixel expirence caf build and still am right now.
I pretty much stopped using wi-fi. I don't use a lot to begin with. Straight Talk boosted their data limit to 25GB a few months ago. Even with streaming, I never get even close to going over. Before, I use to have wi-fi auto switch turned on, but never noticed a problem with it switching between wi-fi and LTE.
