[Q] Help Please - HD2 General

Is there any way to sync my Outlook 2010 contacts with my HTC hd2 tmobile usa without using any second party email service, just straight outlook to hd2. I have tried some of the stuff on the board.....everything syncs except contatcs. I luv this phone but this is really irritating, after discarding my iphone (which was so easy working with contatcs). Other than this problem , I am officially a fan

I don't get it, doesn't it automatically sync your contacts when you plug it in your pc? Did you already download windows mobile center on your PC?

Download and install Windows Mobile Device Center (microsoft). Sync your phone via USB and creat a partnership. Choose to sync contacts, mobile favorites, calender, files, etc. as you like (right calender to choose how far ahead to sync). There are directions and you can search the site for more and, if all else fails, ask again.

Help! I broke it, but need the calendar data

I dropped my HTC wizard and it broke. How can I access the calendar that I have activesynced on my PC? It powers on so I could probably connect it to my PC via activesync but I have no idea how I could get the calendar app running on my PC.
I used to own a Sonyericsson p800 once and it had a great utility which let you manage calendar and phonebook items via pc, is there one for windows mobile?
So basically all I want is to view the calendar items via my pc because I have every appointment and important reminder in my phone's calendar

ActiveSync to Outlook
ActiveSync will sync calendar entries, notes and tasks to Outlook.
I had a similar problem with my JAMin. I bricked it while trying to flash with a customized ROM. I installed the WM5 emulator from Microsoft and managed to restore my last backup (SPB Backup) on the emulator and then sync this to Outlook.
(The local phone dealer is unbricking the phone under warranty!)
Where can I find the backups on my PC? I looked in Program Files/Activesync/ but couldn't see anything resembling a database file... Note that I'm not very technical with these things...
EDIT: I have the WM5 emulator and Outlook installed so I just need to find where the activesync backups are located.
UPDATE: Just got activesync working, so although the phone screen is busted, I can activesync it.
So please, anyone, let me know how I can get the phonebook and calendar info into my pc. I can view all the files on the phone via activesync -> Explore.
have you made any prior backups in your pocketpc?
whether you did or did not, here's an alternative method...
with activesync open, choose tools>options, then place a tick mark on contacts and calendars. press ok.
when you click on "sync", the contacts and calendar items will be placed in microsoft outlook. when you open outlook, you can view them, along with inbox, etc.
Ok, tried that and it synced them all... so they should be in my pc now, but where? Which directory??
start > programs > microsoft outlook
Can't see anything, I have Outlook 2002, maybe it does not support WM5? I did get an error when syncing:
"Cannot synchronize with the Outlook profile you are using, because a different profile was previously set up or the profile is password-protected. Please open Outlook using the appropriate profile.
Support code:8503001f"
I have never used Outlook on my PC before...
EDIT: Just to clarify: Outlook opens fine, but all the calendar entries and notes etc. are blank.
-John
i also have outlook 2002... i'm sorry, i cannot help you past this point (i understand zilch about "profiles"). i'm sure there are others who know what to do next.
There has to be a simple way to just yank out the calendar data from my phone just by using Explorer on my desktop pc, right? Please say it's so because now I uninstalled Outlook and I'm getting more errors than before, now I really don't even know where to start.
This is really driving me nuts... I know I have at least four job appointments for tomorrow, and it's now 11pm and I can't get them out of my phone, and I can't sleep because I know that I'm going to be really royally screwed tomorrow if I have to go to work and don't know where I'm supposed to go during the day.
I think I'll revert back to using a pen and paper calendar in the future...
I have to bump this up... I really need help in getting the calendar entries out of my phone.
If this was the first time you synchronised calendar data then ActiveSync should've taken you through the configuration of a new Outlook profile. If not, then you may already have a profile configured. Outlook's mail profiles can be managed from the Mail icon in the Control Panel on your PC.
I can't give you the details, but this is what I can vaguely recall.
There are a few files in the root directory of your phone that can be copied via activesynced-explorer (e.g. the mobile device on your My Computer). The file is something like PIM.xxx. If you have a spare phone to use, you may want to try copying these files into the other phone and see if the calendar stuff is in there or not.
Else, try to do activesync on another computer and transfer all calendar stuff into Outlook. when you have your new phone, just plug the phone in and have everything synced into the new phone.

syncing contacts on vario 2 without buying outlook for vista

On my old phone (Nokia) i could sync my contacts into Windows address book on my laptop. Now I've got the Vario2 and vista on my laptop the sync will only let me download my contacts into microsoft outlook- which I don't have and do not want to pay loads more money. How do i back my contacts up or get outlook free
I recently found a program called "PIM Backup". It allows you to back the data up to a file which you can then copy off.
Try looking here or off a similar thread for the download link -

Hi.
Have a similar problem
Using Outlook Express for Email and instead of MS Office / Outlook we use Open Office [its free ]
Found a link to connect O.E. YET to try it, but it is ...
http://www.reunion.com/site-root/download_reunionforoutlook.jsp
Also if you know of a calendar plugin for O.E., please post it
i use Jeyo Mobile Companion, brilliant for backing up contacts, sending SMS via pc.
Its different to some others in the fact that you compile the sms as you would an email but it sends it via the phone, so no internet connection needed.
Its brill at work, save "un-cradling" then reply/send sms then cradle, its all done with a swift alt-tab. heh
Alternative to ActiveSync
I haven't (yet) tried it but there is a project called FinchSync (http://www.finchsync.com) which claims: "FinchSync is a tool for synchronizing contacts, appointments and tasks from Mozilla email and calendar products with a Pocket PC or SmartPhone."
If anyone has any hands on experience with this program I for one would be interested to hear about it...?
you could set up a mail2web account which is push email and has a outlook style web based interface allowing you to sync everything contacts, calendar and tasks Did i mention its FREE. www.mail2web.com

[1] Mobile Master : http://www.mobile-master.com/ you can download it on cnet.com alsoo
[2] Funambol http://www.funambol.com/opensource/
Please Note : I haven't tried them as yet, so please take all required BackUp, etc.
Cheers.
You're using Vista? The WMDC will let you Sync your phone with your Vista Contacts - no problem - infact you should now also be able to Sync your mail with Windows Mail and if memory serves your calendar with Windows calander - all things that with XP you had to have Outlook to do!
EDIT
Sorry - seem to have spoken to soon. The beta version of WMDC allowed for Syncing with those programs - I always use Outlook so I haven't even really looked at those settings since - it appears that it was something they supported in the Beta and dropped from the final edition which is quite unfortunate! (probably just trying to sell more copies of outlook). A free work around might be to use Microsoft Live Mail e-mail client (Not Windows Mail) and then install the windows live messenger and set it up to sync your contact details with Live Messenger and then the Live Mail client should then have a synced version of your contacts - just another idea - sorry bout that!

problem with the contacts

Hi
I have outlook 2007 and vista and htc touch diamond i cant get my contacts on outlook when i connect the phone with usb, and i dont know how can import them from the phone to outlook.
can anyone help pls???
When you first plug in the phone it brings up the Windows Mobile Centre on your PC, and asks if you want to set up the phone or just leave it as a 'guest' partnership. If you selected the latter you will not be able to sync without changing the settings of the sync option.
This can easily be done in either the Mobile Device Centre on the PC or on Activesync on your phone, but you need to say you wish to sync the phone, and then also say you wish to sync the contacts.

Uploading contacts to HD2

Hi there, I'm pretty new to the WinMo scene, i had a touch pro 2 then went to an iphone which ive had for 2 years.
So I back my Iphone contacts up to "windows contacts" in windows 7.
Then i thought it would be as easy as using mobile sync manager and ticking a box to sync them with my HD2, but things are never so easy, there is no option to do so.
So how will i go about getting my contacts from windows onto my beloved HD2?
Try using My Phone, you can install it from the market place.

Setting up Exchange could help you. There are some free services. Also, Windows Mobile Device Center will sync your Outlook Contacts.

Unfortunately, Microsoft almost disabled Windows Contacts in Windows 7.
The recommended solution for you would be to get a Windows Live ID from www.hotmail.com.
Then, in Hotmail, go to the "People"-page. On that webpage, there is a menu link, choose: "Manage"->"Import". Choose import from Windows Contacts.
Your contacts will then be imported to Hotmail.
On your phone, install the Windows Live program, add your hotmail credentials. You can choose to sync your contacts between you phone and hotmail on a regular interval.
For your windows desktop, you can download the Windows Live Mail client from http://download.live.com
Add your Windows Live ID credentials and you now have a similar solution to Apple Mobile Me.
The only drawback is that for some incomprehensible reason Microsoft in their infinate wisdom have disabled Calendar sync from Hotmail to your phone. But, mail and contacts will sync between your desktop, the cloud (www.hotmail.com) and your phone.
Of course, you can still add your other e.mail accounts to the phone if you do not want to use hotmail for anything else than a contact sync solution
Also, because of the decisions microsoft made for Windows 7 and Hotmail, you no longer will be able to find your contacts on your computer by using the search feature on the Start Menu. The only way to find your contacts is to open the WIndows Live Mail client, navigate to Contacts and search from there.

[Q] Where's the File Explorer

I was in an ATT store today to check out the Focus. I played with it for about 20 minutes but never found a file explorer app. Does Windows Phone 7 have the same access to the file structure as Windows 6 did?

Nope. And though I'd like it, not really needed. Its quite closed on how everything works. Zune app to load music, vids, pictures, Skydrive (cloud) to load documents. Marketplace for apps.
I just came from a WM 6.1 device (HTC Hermes) and it takes some getting used too. Here at work we're still on XP and Skydrive wont work with it (and they probably shoot it down) and no Outlook coordination though I suspect MS wont ignore that forever.
Android is the closest to WM devices in that you can add and access everything.
Thanks for the reply. IMHO that is a very unfortunate thing. I am assuming that the ability to customize the device through the registry as in the past is also not possible. Which makes me wonder what Windows now has to distinguish itself from the competition. From what I have seen this is a major step backwards from my WinMo 6.5 Tilt 2.
Can you explain what you meant by "no Outlook coordination"?
Past WM devices used Active Sync or WMDC to sync Contacts, Calendar, Files etc. WM7 at this time does not use those tools or talk with Outlook directly, so there is no sync with Contacts and Calendar from Outlook. I think they will add it someday, but its not there now.
I found a work around here and got my old device to upload my 1100 contacts to the Hotmail cloud, and then they showed up on my Focus. I had to build my meeting notices though for the most part.
I'm sure a File Explorer app with show up someday, but its not a deal breaker, the phone works awesome and is a huge jump from WM6. And the iPhone is no different in having no file explorer or reg editor and its the #1 selling device.
I used a reg editor on WM6 cause I had too, to create things like short cuts etc...on WM7 its not needed that I've seen.
I also use my Live account to sync contacts & calendars. I didn't want to do that initially, but it's the best way I can find. I tried all different ways to Sync direct to Outlook, or use Google, but there is no Free way of doing it (Also not stable on the programs I tried). I still use Gmail for my mail, but not for calendar or contacts.
Once done, it works very well. I can update contacts or calendars from any pc or phone and it all syncs up nicely. It was a pain to transfer all my info from Outlook to Live. It lost some of the formatting at times, but a couple hours and I'm done. Even if I were to move to another phone in the future, I'll likely keep Live as my Calender and Contacts manager. Might even move back from Gmail? I LIVE by my Calendar because I forget EVERYTHING!
I know that someone will create a way similar to a File Explorer to explore the device and sync directly with files on a PC etc. For now though just the awesome screen, excellent web viewing and speed are enough to keep this guy happy
Ive come from all WM phones like a:
HTC Tilt
HP 910C Buisness Manager
Sony Ericsson X1a
So is the lack of Outlook sync just with personal Outlook accounts? I mean, will my calendar, contacts and email sync over my corporate Exchange server as they have in the past with 6.5?
