Two issues

Please forgive me if this has already been covered but I tried searching for a while and had no luck on the issues.
First, I'm having trouble hooking up to routers but can hook up to my buddies phone when he is tethering. It didn't do this before but just recently. I flashed Sparksmod Rom and still had the issue, then tried the Gingerbread CM7 and still can't hook up. It says obtaining ip address then just cycles.
Second, I got a 4G phone hoping I would get better service at my work, but it doesn't seem like the signal will penetrate through most buildings, but my buddy has Sprint and gets 3G and 4G. I realize this is a different band but after I saw the data throttling hack I didn't know if I had a chance.
I would greatly appreciate any input, and will remove this post if anybody directs me to the issue post elsewhere.

if i remember right data throttling was for those who received a message from tmobile saying they used to much data and i think tmo's 4g isnt so great right now depending on where you are, i get 4g sometimes and sometimes its just 3g. and about the routers i recommend trying to restart the router or manually add the router. good luck on fixing your problem
One of the best things about Tmo is that they offer wifi calling for free, but obviously that won't work if you can't connect to wifi. If you can't get wifi working you should revert back to stock and do a warranty exchange.

Thanks for the input. I've honestly tried everything router wise.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
are you overclocked? you may need to apply the wifi fix if you are.
The overclock I'm running is packed in the rom. (Gingerbread cm7) Ill try to search the wifi fix thread. Thanks much!

I don't think it was a WiFi issue. Most probably, the ISP your WiFi router is connected to had a connection issue with a portion of the internet. It happens from time to time when a node goes down temporarily, and an alternate route can't be found.

Wifi connection problems after using onavo data monitor app

Last week when the Onavo data monitor app appeared prominently placed on the market home screen I gave it a try.
Unfortunately it created a very annoying bug on my phone running JVU and Semaphore 2.5:
whenever my phone looses it's wifi connection for any reason it will not recognize and connect to available wifi anymore even if placed directly near the router with full signal strength!
The only way to get it connected again is switching wifi off and then on again...
I already uninstalled the app and did a factory reset but nothing changed. Probably it messed up some system files that don't get touched during factory reset.
As I'm in vacation now and don't have my data cable with me to flash a fresh firmware, is there any way to resolve this issue in other means?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Nobody here with any idea how to resolve this? It's really annoying as even battery consumption goes up very much when the phone looses wifi and auto connects to 3g.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I have no idea about your problem. I also have just installed Onavo on JVU firmware for a couple days, but everything is still ok....
So, I'm thinking the cause is from your router!! Why don't you try another wifi network?
Good luck!! ^^
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Thanks for your answer! It doesn't depend on my router. As I said I'm in vacation right now and therefor using many different available hotspots, it happens on all of them... :-(
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Any issues with battery drain and onavo? Cause it was sucking mine dry!! I thought it was semaphore's fault (i'm on icssgs 4.2) until i figure it out and uninstalled it. Now it is Almost as prior installing onavo. I have a feeling that it left some garbage behind though.
It definitely left some garbage behind and this thread is about to find out how to get rid of it.
Battery drain was and unfortunately still is very high on my device thanks to the non desired 3g connection instead of wifi...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Try to flash a new kernel again. It may help you updating some files that control wifi.
I used onavo for couple of days, battery drains. Its functions already in ICS roms, Less but good.
Sent from my GT-I9000 (ICS AOPK #25 - Semaphore 0.9.1) using xda premium
Thank you so much! That did the trick. The onavo garbage seems to be gone for good now.

You are welcome,
Could you please tell us about the battery usage. Do you noticed some changes in battery life?

Wifi problems !

So i bought my sister a sgy a month ago and she seems decently pleased .. However i.noticed i cant smehow stay connected to the wifi ! im getting horrible wifi drops ! i have other samsung droids i9100 n i9001 n no problems
Sent from my GT-I9001 using Tapatalk 2
Have you flashed any custom rom or is it on stock rom? Btw you should have posted it in general section this is dev section
Sent from my GT-S5360 using XDA
1) you are not able to connect to the wifi at all? If yes it's a rom compatibility issue.. Make sure you have busybox updated and always restart with wifi on...
2) you're disconnected and connected automatically frequently?
I'm also facing this issue.. It's not rom issue nor kernel issue.. It's an issue with the wifi router and sgy incompatible with some specific routers..i have a net gear and normal router with two different Internet connections.. The net gear one is stable and doesn't disconnect where as the normal one connects wifi works but it gets disconnected every 3/4 mins and reconnects back.. I have galaxy s2 which works fine with the both routers.. So I guess some routers are buggy with our sgy..

Try changing the type of security of your router,
Eg. From wep to wpa

I m also getting same issue with sgy and belkin router.
Nothing works. It always disconnect and connected automatically.
So its surely device - router incompatibility.
Btw you must have to ask it in general sectin.

If it really annoys you, consider switching to a different router. I had also other issues (WPS) particularly with belkin.
if its still under warranty u can get the phone replaced either from the shop or service centre. i recommend to replace the device from the shop though samsung service centres arent trustworthy.

[Q] can't connect to WiFi running newest liquid smooth rom

As I put in the topic, I'm running the newest liquid smooth build on my N10. Everything is running really great on it, but I can't connect to WiFi at all? Sorry for posting this here but I'm a noob and can't post in the dev forums yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated considering my tablet is useless without WiFi!
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
Some wifi problems are inherent to 4.2. But if wifi doesn't turn on immediately after flashing any rom, usually a reboot cures it. Before rebooting tho, try cycling Airplane mode on/off.

I've already tried rebooting several times. I even booted into recovery and wiped everything again and reflashed the Rom. Still no WiFi? I've never had a problem with it on stock or cm10.1
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I never had wifi issues with my N10 until I decided to give Liquid's newest build a try. I tried all the tricks - reboots, toggling airplane mode, even started from scratch and reflashed the entire ROM but had no luck. Sometimes it would connect for a moment, but then would immediately disconnect. As soon as I returned to my latest backup (Steve Spear's AOKP pub builds), and even since trying other ROMs I've had no wifi issues. I'm saying with 100% certainty there's a problem with Liquid's ROM, but it sure seems that way to me.
Maybe redownload the ROM and start over (perhaps something got messed up while downloading). That's the one thing I never tried as I got tired of monkeying around with it.

Would you mind posting the link to that ROM? I don't have time to mess around with issues and need a solid and fast daily driver. I use autocad on my N10 for work so I'm needing this resolved badly!

Nevermind, stupid question lol I'm downloading another Rom now. Ill just have to wait on liquid smooth to come out of its beta stages before using it.
Hmm... I'm on the latest LiquidSmooth and wifi works just fine for me.

See that's what doesn't make sense to me, nobody else seems to have this issue? I might just try wiping everything and reflashing again tonight.
