I had installed Axura 2.0.6 and Voodoo Lag Fix.
I noticed my GPS was no longer working so disabled the Voodoo lag Fix.
It was causing me problems, without knowing i decided to ODIN my Vibrant while Voodoo was still installed. After a long period of a Black screen of death and various problems. I got it finally but my wifi wasnt working buttons were inverted wouldnt recognize my sim card and i couldnt mount the phone. I attempted to do a data wipe but was unable to saying it was denied. I have no idea what to do and ive been up for hours. I am on Windows Xp and im just going crazy. Im attempting to use adb but my knowledge with adb is minimal as well. Please can anybody please please help me.
This is why I hate voodoo. Not that this happens, but because nobody reads up on how to fix it. Download eugenes froyo that doesnt brick from the bible sticky. Click repartition in odin and flash it. Then flash to regular jfd with repartition unchecked.

1. Do exactly what he said. Use 512.pit
2. For god's sake please don't install a lagfix unless you are 100% sure it's compatible with the ROM. READ the description of ROMs.
3. Please post in the right forum next time.

Did you check repartion when you load the pit file?
After you've repartitioned it, did you UNCHECK the box and then load JFD?

And I forgot: don't check re-partition when flashing Eugene's froyo. Check it when flashing JFD. You will get an error message after flashing froyo that does not brick. That's normal.

I have a huge problem.
I rooted my wife's (yea...my wife's...) Fascinate last night. The root method I used worked like a charm. I installed ROM Manager. Again...no problem. Flashed ClockWork Mod no problem as well. I selected "reboot to recovery" to do a nandroid as I've done on numerous other phones. In fact, ALL of this I've done on numerous times on half a dozen different phones.
When it rebooted, instead of it being in Nandroid, it was in the regular stock recovery. My stomach sank...lol
It would just reboot...that's it. Is there a loop with the fascinate? How do I get out of it if so?
At one point, the phone wouldn't do ANYTHING...all that would happen when I plugged it in was a little computer and cell phone would pop up on the screen. No recovery, no nothing. So, after lots of digging and reading, I found the files here that I thought I'd need to reflash the system using odin. I got the /system file, the kernal and the recovery. I flashed the kernal...worked perfectly. Flashed the recovery...again, perfect (and recovery is back but still in a reboot loop...) When I try the .tar.md5 system file, it says md5 is invalid so I changed it to a straight .tar file and it worked all the way up to the very end, then it stops. That's it.
I just need the phone to work again for my wife. I don't care if I even flash a new custom rom (which I can't fine one of that works!) or if it's just simply restoring the stock system files.
ANY AND ALL HELP GREATLY appreciated, guys. Thanks!!
To get to cwm, you have to select "apply update.zip" from stock recovery. This is how fascinate and a few other galaxy s cwm works. Also don't ever delete the update.zip file from sd card.
But to start out....
Step 1: Start with Odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
A. Flash system and pit together
B. Flash kernel
C. Flash recovery
*Important note: in Odin, always use PDA!!!! Using phone will cause huge issues.
Step 2: Flash cwm:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/458252/CWMrecovery.tar
*note: this is an Odin file, again flash using PDA
Your phone will end up stock, rooted and with cwm.
That's very interesting. Here's why:
A) It tried to flash the update and the update failed.
B) My Vibrant didn't require this step.
So...as I was typing that, I had the tar.md5 downloading again. Apparently 4th time was a charm because it worked and I'm back up and running.
Thank you all SO MUCH for the STUPID fast replies. Very very cool!!!
Rooting aside if you want to just fix it, I can help you with that. Nothing more though. Interested?

the one and only thing my phone will boot to is download mode. absolutely no recovery. i have flashed via odin the stock modem system and recovery files countless times, sometimes successfully sometimes with error. even when doing so succesfullly the phone gains absolutely no functions. still download mode or black screen. only real thing i can mention that may have led to this issue is that i flashed stock kernel over voodoo lag fix without doing anything to it first. Please help.

I had the same problem when I flashed the non-voodoo over voodoo and spent hours trying to fix the boot loop. I followed the instruction here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204 but still running into the boot loop (recovery mode) then I flashed with the file from here via ODIN http://adrynalyne.us/files/kernels/DI01package3.tar.md5 and it restored my phone back to factory. From there you would have to do the root procedure again. Hope this helps.

There is no update.zip method to unbrick. You will need to re-download a working copy of Odin or figure out how to make Odin work to do a factory restore with it.
Download the di01 complete package and use pda in odin to restore it.

borked up the fascinate whilst trying to update to the devs 2.2.
i know exactly what i did wrong. i was running voodoo5, and i clicked to disable lag fix, but i forgot to restart to let it *actually* disable before trying to load the new stuff. STUPID!
when that happened, it hung on samsung screen, then after battery pull all the phone will do is boot loop.. samsung screen, then goes to robot and screen says says "wiping cache, data, ect.." and then back to samsung screen to reboot and reboot.
i have literally 30 tabs open with articles from here and other forums, nothing seems to be working. here is what i have tried.
1. tried booting back to red cwm and playing with the lagfix (enable and disable again) to see if it would work, no go. i ended up losing red cwm - had to ODIN red back.. i cant get green to flash.
2. tried flashing DL09 both the full package and each individual part via ODIN
3. tried flashing the stocki500system.md5 (from the board) and kernel via ODIN, and nothing.. same boot loop. everything i have flashed via ODIN still gives me a boot loop..
4. tried to connect via ADB but it wont let me access the phone.. NOTE: i just downloaded ADB as a last resort and know nothing about it..
the only thing i can seem to do is get to red cwm. i have several backups in the restore section, but none of them seem to work - either i get a "no file found" even though i can see the file(s), or i get an error after it does load that says ".android_secure.img not found. skipping restore of /sdcard/.android_secure"
any ideas?
Okay follow these steps. Make sure you follow them step by step. Even though you have the lagfix installed this removed it for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
Place the PIT file where it belongs. Then ODIN the system, kernel, and recovery in that order. Don't restart the process every time. Just ODIN them one after another.
thank you very much for taking a moment to answer. i did follow that thread, however
i managed to get the stocki500 recovery but the other files (recovery, PIT) are all 404 not found errors.
ive tried that stock md5 and it still boot loops. i actually have that tab open from when i tried that route..
any other ideas and thanks again
Thats why its not working. Try this restore by adrynalyne. The file is there and everything is in one. Just ODIN in the PDA section. This should work.

I did the exact same thing a couple of days ago, and recovered a similar way, odin back to D101, flashed DL09 & superclean, then restored a backup, then disabled voodoo and finally flashed DL30. I've got a couple of questions.
1: Is voodoo completely off my phone or is it just disabled (is there a difference)? When I apply update.zip from the blue recovery I get green cwm.
2: Each time I backup, restore, flash a different rom I apply update.zip, then from green recovery I flash "new_cwm.zip". Is this necessary?

i followed all the hints i got, and i think that the one i got about formatting helped me get out of the boot loop from hell.. it finally took my flash from ODIN, it wouldn't until i did the format(s)..
mind you i am NOT an expert, however from what i read and talked about offline, voodoo is still resident on your phone but disabled (check to see if you have the voodoo file still on your card).. if DL30 is running fine, you are ok..
from what i have read, yes.. the new cwm is required in order to get it to mesh properly with 2.2 leak.. i havent had any issues and i loaded that as well.. from one of the posts i read, if you are a serial flasher, then you need to make sure that not only you download the new cwm zip, but also should have deleted the entire clockworkmod folder from your card for best results..

Did you disable voodoo? May have a date with ODIN full. Going back to D101 usually fixes most problems, but, you can try the DL09 package first.

I don't understand why people are so hesistant to use the full odin packages. 99% of the time it will fix your problems and in about 5 min you are back up and running.
DI01
DL09
You could also try this odin package to get you straight up to EB01 though I haven't tried it myself
EB01
I had a similar issue restoring a backup from CM7 alpha, phone just boot looped. The solution for me was to battery pull, go back into recovery, rewipe, and reflash an EB01 rom (i used superclean 2.4). Let it boot up, then reboot recovery and restore your backup.

You mean, all your settings/data/apps were gone, with only the contests of the SD card remained? That's supposed to happen, you're supposed to wipe all the phone's data for such a large change.
Yes your supposed to back up your contacts and wipe data and stuff but I didn't. I went from e lair to dl30 then to eb01 never wiped. All I did was, Lear dalvik cache and works wonderful. Signature error? Are you using clockworkmod?
Yea I'm sorry I'm at work but it was two different errors regarding reading the signature or the signature name when I would try to install dl-30 through clock work mod into the reboot into recovery mode...haha wish I would have been told to copy everything to my pc! Lol what? Odin is 100000000000000000000000 times more risky than clockwork. The version you flash through clockwork comes rooted also.
Odin is very simple, and not risky at all if you're following directions. You have to flash the modem with Odin anyways, so why not do the all-in-one?
There is always a risk with Odin, because if it crashes, freezes, or the connection goes sour while something critical is being flashed, very bad things can happen (as in a bricked device).
But it also is true that's exceedingly rare (as in I've never actually heard of it happening barring someone physically unplugging their phone in the middle of an Odin flash), and anyways, you have no choice but to flash the modem through Odin.
I personally still wouldn't recommend using Odin for more than you absolutely need to, however.

I always recommend Odin for any major problem (and It's certainly my first choice when something goes awry). It is just so much easier to flash one of the complete modem/system/kernel packages when something goes wrong than spend forever trying to go through every obscure little possible solution.

I agree. If there was a choice between a full package with odin and cwm, I would say odin is much better. Some people dont read instructions and end up messing up their phone with cwm. Odin would be far easier to do with just a single click of the button.

If you have to do some of it with odin why not do the whole thing? And what makes it 1000000000x more risky? Its actually been REALLY simple every time i use it. There are way more directions to follow and things to screw up when doing eb01 the odin and clockwork method.

This is a case of "I have no idea what I'm doing. I shouldn't have messed with crap I don't understand."
I have an Epic 4g that I've rooted previously and, using Odin, installed a custom ROM (forget which one). Yesterday, I attempted to flash Legendary ROM, following the directions in the How-to video linked in the Legendary post. I have an earlier version of CWM (v2.5.1.0 if that makes a difference) than what was on the video. I wiped the data, the Dalvik cache, and the battery stats before I began the flash.
The flash consisted of downloading the zip file of the ROM to my phone, booting into CWM, and installing the zip file from the SD card. The screen said that it installed correctly, but I got an error "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log". When I went to reboot, it got stuck at the Samsung screen permanently.
I tried to flash again the same way - same thing happened. I read on a forum post somewhere that the SD card partition may not have enough space to flash the ROM, so I partitioned my SD card. Yup, I'm that dumb. Now, when I boot it up, it goes to the Samsung screen for a few seconds, then directly to CWM screen. It even goes to CWM when I plug the phone in without turning it on.
I've searched the forums here and elsewhere for this problem and specifically the error message (E: Can't open ...) and can't really make heads or tails of anything. The replies are over my head as far as my knowledge of my phone and these processes. I don't know what the exact problem is nor how to fix it. If you could help an idiot through the steps, I would greatly appreciate. If you live around the Philly area, I could offer you $50 to fix my phone and install the Legendary ROM.
Thank you for your time in reading this.
as long as it turns on and you get some kinda life you are still good couple things you can try
1 since you are on a older version of CWM wipe data 3 times cache 3 times and dalvic 3 time then try installing your ROM again give it a shot wont hurt anything
2 if that doesnt work you will have to Odin back to stock and re-root...i know it sounda like a pain in the ass but its the best option ill find you a how to for this if you need it

Thank you. I'll try the first when I get home this evening. I'm curious as to why each of those should be wiped 3 times. I'm not arguing your method, just honestly curious.
I don't really know how to get the stock ROM back on there with Odin. Is there a stock file I could download somewhere, or would the file still be on my phone? A how-to would be helpful if you could provide one.
You need to flash CWM5 for correct conversions

The link i sent you has everything Toadlife put together awesome packages for us
doing the 3 wipe on older versions is just to ensure you completey wiped everything on some older versions it was mandatory to do it 3 times i believe because not all info would be cleared resulting is bad flashes
On the other had Biggoron is good at what he does and he really can fix your pohone remotely hes a good guy you can trust him.... i think in this case it might be the way to go and im sure he will explain to you everything he is doing

Its not bricked if it turns on! And you don't have to wipe 3 times... only 1 time each on all 3 things! Update your cwm and try to flash again, if that doesn't work odin to stock and start over... this time don't use an old version of cwm use the newest (5.0.2.7)

Just so you know, bricked isn't unfixabe... I have unbricked a couple epics... it involves a jig and hooking directly to the motherboard... kinda complicated but doable... so no a brick is not unfixable...

That's the file you'll have to use with Odin to flash your phone back to stock 2.2. That file will go in the PDA slot of Odin. Don't bother with a PIT or repartitioning (probably not needed in your case).
Once you boot with stock 2.2, let the phone OTA to EI22 and EL30 to get to stock gingerbread with the updated modem. From there you can start the root/rom flash process again.

Thank you all for your help. Man, you guys are awesome! I'm going to try to reload stock using Odin this evening. If I'm unable to do this, I'm going to get Biggoron to help me via teamviewer.
Thank you all again. It seems that the only way I'm able to learn about things is by breaking them.

Dont sweat that... most of it is all through trial and error. Truthfully, that's how I really got to know my phone better and the stuff I can do w/ it. That and this community. That's why trying a new rom isn't no big thing. If it doesn't take... it doesn't take. That's why we have "nandroid backup" and in "bad" situations, we have ODIN...

Welcome to the Sponge club and also the halls of Asgard to visit Odin or heimdall.
It worked!
I was able to successfully set my phone back to stock 2.2 and just received the OTA updates.
Before I left work last night, my wife called and told me that I locked the cat in the office the night before and she chewed up the USB cable for the phone (I'm so "internet"). I stopped at the Sprint store on the way home and got a new USB cable. I was using Odin for the process, following the video, using my new cable, and Odin couldn't see my phone. The guy in the video was completely right about Sprint/Samsung cables being crap. The chewed cable was originally from a Blackberry. I tried the chewed cable, having to hold it stretched out and tilted to the left, and Odin saw my phone. It went smoothly from there, though my arm got a bit sore.
When I get a chance within the next few days, I'm going to root and try again to install Legendary.
You guys are fantastic. Thank you all for your help. It's obvious that the people here know a lot about this stuff, but it's especially great that you're able to explain this stuff to people who don't know much at all. That's a talent.

Replace that cable ASAP, if you had lost connection in the middle of Odin'ing to stock you could have really bricked your phone! You might need to use Odin again soon..when learning my phone I had to Odin to stock probably 15 times, especially when you start flashing between MTD and BML ROMs (if you don't know what that is, just keep reading on here you will figure it out soon)

I have a good cable that I'm planning on using, I just left it at work last night. I'll read up on those types of ROMs. Thank you.
