I LOVE MY G2.
no hinge problems. fastest phone i've ever owned. android 2.2. tethering. it's just an overall sexy device.
anyone else feel this way?
I totally agree, coming from a blackberry, I couldnt be happier that I made the switch

Im not crazy about the hinge design. Its a poor design... Ive used dozens of them and theyre all essentially the same. Compared to the G1 hinge its a downgrade. But I agree with everything else you said. Really enjoying my G2 and Froyo.

i've seen alot of people complaining about the hinge. saying its flimsy and poor made. but i've honestly had no problems with mine.
I seen a demo unit and the hinge wouldn't lock and it would freely open. the sales person picked up the phone and it fluttered about wildly.

Same Here. I miss ms n900. But a modded g2 is the better phone.

i guess the hinge on the g2 is kinda hit and miss. either you get a good one or you dont.
and im sure the g2s UI is alot more easier to cope with than the n900
I like it. The added heft of the phone but only wish it was a bit thinner, its good still I love it. I put the black case on, and I think it looks much better in black, just like the G1.

The N900 was a great phone just poor surport which sucked on Nokia end. But having a phone that just works and it can be rooted is a +

Not really. It's just some people don't mind it and others do. Nobody's hinge is as sturdy as a Droid or G1. It's not designed to be that way.

Coming from a BB 9700, the phone is just great. The market kills BB's, this phone is way faster stock. Thought at first the move to the G2 was going to be a little overwhelming, and to think 3 weeks later I would gather the balls to permroot it and run a custom rom is fascinating. This device is the coolest thing I've got my little grubby paws on to date.

welcome aboard -
i came to the G2 from the Vibrant - one thing you'll notice is the absolute absence of any GPS issues - uncanny
but there are a number of other upsides to the G2
enjoy
Yeah. At first I wanted the Vibrant as well. Went to the tmobile store checked out the G2 and the Vibrant side to side and G2 it is. The vibrant felt like a cheap iphone where the G2 was great looking and had that heft I was looking for.
I'm glad I got the G2, I had the G1 when it first came out also so its great. I just got the phone today and a upgrade from using my iphone 3G on tmobile, its a very big upgrade. The iphone can not match the smoothness of android os IMO.
I'm loving this phone, the keyboard is going to take some getting used to from the G1 I used to use before the iphone but its worth it. Now I just can't wait to root the **** out of this phone like I did to my G1.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Ya I can't wait for the number port to kick in so I can play with a WORKING gps. Lol.
The samsung phones , IMO, are garbage. All the way down to the file system.
If rooting the captivate gets me on parr with G2 stock then wow look out! This G2 will rock socks!!

So, I just traded my G2 for a N1 :/
For those that have considered this here are my notes.
N1 Cons, that stick out after switching.
- feels slower.
- NO WIFI calling without hacking.
- NO keyboard
- LOT less space, could not install all the apps I had on the G2
N1 Pros.
- Slimmer, feels nicer in pocket.
- My battery is not eaten up by "Cell Standby", but rather the applications I use.
Umm yeah, I think I made a mistake

Agreed. Especially with the Nexus S just around the corner.
I have both phones and prefer the G2. I still love the screen on the Nexus, though!
I too have both phones, i use the G2 and my girl uses the N1. We will have to switch when Gingerbread hits.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Why would you do that without consulting us first?
Is there any chance you can trade back?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
In a sense you did a good trade and in a sense you didn't. Nexus is still a great phone. Its just isn't up to par with the g2. Of course newer phones newer hardware. But you still have a amazing phone on your hands that's worth keeping. Its the official dev phone for a reason. So don't feel upset, it could be worse. You could have traded for a vibrant lol.
[G2/HTC Vision]
Also the N1 only has two touch imputs (and they are terrible). I moved from the N1 to the G2 so yeah I really think you should have stayed.
Straight up?
If so you got hosed. Although the N1 would barely qualify as a downgrade.

How are vibrants bad? The screen is one of the best ones available. So is the gpu and the hummingbird. Plus its slim and lightweight. It has its downsides but so does the g2.

i traded a vibrant for my g2 also...i got the vibrant back 3 days later after the guy bricked. i gave him my hd2 for it...a friend brought the vibrant back on odin....i'm happy and i'm looking to sell my nexus one asap
Who cares if the G2 isn't getting Gingerbread first? Since when has SW stopped a phone from being awesome, when it already has awesome SW? The fact of the matter is, 4 input touch screen lol. I love it, the N1 could never do that, and the capacitive buttons on the G2 are to die for. The OC capability on this phone are endless and Steve Klondik(Cyanogen) is working endlessly to make a Cyanogen build that is awesome for the G2. Gingerbread will come, but I'd much rather have it after ol' Cyan has added the icing to it.

I went directly from an N1 to a G2, last week. I have not found one thing that makes me regret my choice. The G2 just feels like the N1's natural successor.
Besides, Cyanogen himself has a G2 and will, I'm sure, be all over Gingerbread.
Sup you guys, I'm thinking about trading in my Vibrant for a G2. Should I do it? I don't care about the keyboard as I wont be using it. Just love the build quality of the phone and that its a stock android phone. But if y'all had a vibrant, would you change for the G2?

Did it as well. Got my G2 two weeks ago in place of the Vibrant. I miss things (weight, thin-ness, SAMOLED display, 4" screen) but that's it.
Expected answers here
I have both in front of me right now. Comparing my vibrant running Nero (without lagfix) to stock G2 I prefer the bigger screen and multimedia playback as well as better speakers. Speed difference is negligible. The only thing better about the G2 is gps and notification led.

Meh...I had both (before I had to send the SGS back again for repair)...I would also add...
1. G2 for me has been WAY MORE dependable (I've had issues with my G2, but nothing like the ones with the SGS)
2. Again, for me - G2 was faster based on my usage (even with the slower processor)
3. G2 is much easier to manage from a software aspect. G2 drivers and device seems to be more responsive and easier to manage connecting to the computer. (Kies is a nightmare)
I too miss the SA 4" screen, sleek, lightweight form factor. but if I I have to get it replaced every week due to failed hardware or software - its not worth it.

when I saw leaked pics of the G2, I was like this is gonna be my new phone. Then I checked it out in person and was turned off by its bulk and clumsy hinge. It didn't feel smooth sliding out the keyboard..had to use 2 hands instead of 1. Anyways, good thing I waited for the Nexus and I love it! So my answer is YES.
Absolutely. You get true stock and a much faster and sleeker device. I thought about the G2 when moving to T-Mobile. So glad I got my Nexus S .

This here. I had random signal loss a lot.
Dude definitely get the nexus s. If you want a new experience.
I would say as long as you have an android phone, n not an iphone your golden,
Personally, I have my G2 running CyanogenMod 6.1.1 with setcpu (overclocked when battery full to 1ghz and as the battery gets lower, I have it slowly clock down), and juicesaver (this kills having data on when the screen is off but it still alows googlevoicetexts to come through etc.) Also, memory AND battery expansions make this a good solid phone.
I also have the MT4G modded n such.
BUT,***** the nexus s is very sleek, the best samsung has put out so far imo. It has a fast proccesor, nfc, amoled, and gingerbread, off the batt to startt with, if you mod it, it just gets better.
Get and use what makes you happy, but just don't bite the apple. If you have had your G2 long enougj and want a new experience and get a good sale on your G2, go for it.
5stars

T-Mobile doesn't care if you change your phone when you're in a 2year contract with a phone. You just don't get the 2-year discount.
It'll take a few days to get used to using a virtual keyboard than a physical but once you get used to it. You'll feel that physical keyboards are just a waste of space.

I started my android ownership with a G1 because it was cheap, and there was a ton I could do to a $80 phone.
Before that I had an HTC Diamond for cost and "crap to play with" factor.
The Touch Pro just turned me off for it's bulk and subjective feel.
The G1 had some of the same issues, but I knew if this experiment worked I'd go for the Nexus S.
In between getting the G1, and later buying a Nexus S, I just found too much of the lingering turnoffs about the Touch Pro/G1 when I checked out the G2 as a cheaper alternative to the 2x cost Nexus S.
A guy I work with can't stand bar phones and what I like about the nexus S in general. He's always liked his TP2, G1, blackberries, Droid pos with keyboard.
Find a "good" Nexus S and just be happy, if that's what you subjectively "like".
I got my replacement Epic after true bricking the other. After two years with this phone my first true brick. Even Sprint couldn't Odin it.
Anyways, maybe its my imagination, but the modem and wi-fi seem stronger, and it seems quicker? Is it possible the rev'd the hardware in this? Probably not, but don't ruin it for me.

I am probably completely wrong about this but I feel like phones start to slow down over time. I had an Evo 4G that I constantly flashed new ROMs onto and over time it started to get really sluggish. I went back to my go to smooth and stable ROMs and even those did the Evo no justice. I have a friend that says it's exactly the same with his HTC Inspire.
This is exactly how I felt about my Samsung epic 4g. It felt as if the hardware wore out, (particularly the hard drive) due to dozens, maybe hundreds of flashes.
