Ok, quick question....I was able to get S-Off the first try but wasn't sure about flashing CM recovery while preforming the commands so I opted not to install it since I already add it using the zip on my SD. Now, is it possible to install it premantely since I didn't do it then? Or am I suck using to zip on the sd card...Just wondering, thanks.

What is S OFF? I been seeing that a lot lately.
S-ON and S-Off is (I believe) the NAND security that is put on all Android phones. It's a feature company's (HTC, Samsung) put on our phones to lock it down so we don't change the stock feature, full root access and recovery. With S-Off we now have access to the system partition while our phones are on using a term or apps like root explorer and put on perm recoverys There is more to it but this is just a quick run down. Please if I wrong, by all mean correct me ..Lol. I have only been in the Android world since last march when I got my first android, the behold 2.

I also would like the commands and also is there an unmoded hboot for if we need to send the phone to tmobile and we can make the phone fully stock.

Mostly right yeah, but actually most android phones are s-off. If I remember correctly, only a few ended up being released s-on.

Not while retaining s-off, no. You'd have to place ESPRIMG.zip back in the root of your sd card and boot into hboot and reflash ESPRIMG.zip, which will overwrite your hboot/fastboot, recovery, ROM, and de-root your device.
I'm interested in flashing the zip of the droid 2 multi touch keyboard mod. I've tried other ways except flashing but failed. Do you think flashing through recovery, like it was intended, it going to really screw up the htc default keyboard to the point of no return? I know it will replace it but do you think this would only make things worse? I'm asking before pulling the trigger.
make a nandroid backup. if something happens there is always a jumping back to the point of origin this way
You might try downloading it on your phone. Then use root explorer to extract the apk. Go to sd/extracted click on the apk and try installing.

Been there. Conflicts with stock kb and fc like crazy. I will see if I can muster up some courage here.....
If that's the case then flashing it probably won't do anything but backup and wing it. Restore is just a couple clicks away!

It didn't work. There's a conflict somewhere that I don't know how to fix. No biggie. It wasn't super important.
Can anyone download the latest Epic 4G recovery From ROM Manager and upload the Update.zip for me ? i need help cause it'll be needed to make a functional Recovery for the Sidekick 4G. Thanks in Advance !
How is a Epic rom going to help you with a different phone?

I don't need an epic ROM..
I need the update zip that gets placed on your SD card when you flash CWM from ROM manager cause it can me modded to work on the Sidekick 4G and a dev helping me said he'd use the Epic 4G recovery, and make the changes needed
If anyone could upload that file it'd be greatly appreciated

I've applied update.zip from my SD card and it revert me to the stock Epic recovery (no Clockwork Mod). It also wouldn't root your phone, it'd probably brick it.
Jeez!!!!
Guys,
Since you require full disclosure:
We are asking for the Epic Recovery image because:
It works perfectly on our device as is , only does not mount the SD card correctly.
Krylon 360 has offered to try and change the mount points for us so that we can use this recovery.
Rather than reinvent the wheel, we are asking if someone may either upload the image, or point us in the direction of how to get it...
Bear in mind, we don't have an epic, so ROM manager is not a valid answer
If anyone can help, we would appreciate it...
Thanks in advance
Well Okay. Here's my zip.
Much appreciated.

saved me a headache .. ILY . lol but for what its worth thanks to the guy who uploaded
The mount points are compiled into the recovery binary itself there would be no changing them without recompiling the recovery binary. As far as I know anyway having build cwm a few times.

Wrong. Cwm 2.x this was true. This was changed in cwm3 which now gets its mount points from update.zip>etc>recovery.fstab

Then Koush really should take out the section of code that asks for the partition map of the device if its not needed anymore. That kinds makes the roota.c file pretty useless then.

Hey Guys,
So im in a bit of a peculiar situation here, I downgraded my device from Gingerbread to 2.2.1 following the wiki (kudos to whoever did that, thanks a lot!). However, when I got to 2.2.1, it now only mounts my SD card as read only? I have ordered another one to see whether i just got a crappy sd card (Tmo refused to replace it under warranty)... However, I have pushed Visionary and Gfree, in preparation to root this sucker, and have my way with it...but heres the caveat, is that now, when I try to boot into recovery, I get that stinking little phone with a red triangle on it...what does this mean?
Regards
Trevor
That means you don't have a custom recovery installed
Download Rom manager from the market and install the clockworkmod recovery
Edit: until you root the phone my post is useless the custom recovery is for after you root the phone
If you need help rooting the phone mackster248 has a great 2 part video showing you how to root the MT4G on YouTube

right, so if i am still able to root my thing using gfree then flash custom recovery? So...im not hosed yet?
trev
PS, is there an way to reformat an sd card through ADB, i think it may be read only because of some corrupt sectors, and would like to try to reformat it...does the fdisk utility do this?
regards

Will unrooting my EVO 4G and going back to stock restore my RSA Keys? I have lost both 4G and Wi-Fi.

No returning to stock won't get your wimax keys back. Only way is to restore a previous nandroid backup that had your wimax keys

Personally tried it, came up negative. It's heartbreaking to lose RSA keys.

r you positive that it is your rsa keys and not just a kernel flash issue? because i remember that if you flash anthrax sense kernel if you don't mount /data first before you flash it, it breaks your wifi and it may have messed up you 4g as well. also download the rsa key checker app from the market to be absolutely sure its your rsa's. its worth a shot if you have no backups to restore...
edit:also to fix the wifi when flashing anthrax all you had to do was re flash it with /data mounted and it would work again.
