[Q] Odin DK17 modem help - Epic 4G General

I cant seem to find where I can actually download the DK17 modem, all the links i run into are dead. I already have the 2.2 firmware and clockwork installed. Somebody guide me in the right direction please

I'm sorry, I don't know your answer exactly but I have a quick question in relation to your post.
How did you install the froyo rom? I tried, it wouldnt finish the download. Just "signature not verified" What did I do wrong?
P.S. I booted it up from rom manager, how do you do it manually?

I followed the instructions and used the files from this thread to flash the modem and then installed the dk17 based froyo rom I wanted.

I had that same issue earlier, it took me a while to figure it out but I am not going to tell you because you will just be wasting your time and end up in the same position i was in. It is easier to just start over completely follow this link

There is a link in my signature you can download off my server.

if you dont have the one click with redirector when you reboot with clockwork it takes you to the built in recovery, what you need to do is hold the volume down key, the picture taking key and the power key while booting up in order to get into clockwork recovery. Its not really spelled out anyplace that the generic recovery is blue writing, whereas clockwork is green and alot more choices.

[Q] DK28 back to DI18

I followed the instructions on how to flash to DK28 and now want to flash back to DI18. How do I do this? If I don't do this will I still receive the official upgrade OTA from Sprint?

make sure you have samsung mobile phone drivers .download odin, download the di18 tar file....when you open odin place the tar file in the pda section uncheck f.reboot box and put the phone in download mode be holding down the 1 on the keyboard and press the power button...you should have a giant triangle with the android mascot shoveling, connect the phone to the computer and it should show the phone in one of the comm ports (its yellow) after you have done all that, press start.
Does this erase all your data? Recommend backing up beforehand?
yes it does erase data...i didnt do a backup because i didnt mind reinstalling apps
No need to Odin. I got the stock di18 zip, wiped and flashed it via the volume down/cam/power button thingy. Rooted that and restored my cwm backup. Was like I never left 2.1.
do you have a link to that di18.zip?

If you're not rooted, then just rename the file to update.zip, copy over to sd card, boot into recovery and flash the di18.

Please forgive my stupidity but I tried just doing the power+camera+vol down and install update but that did not work. Is there a different way to do recovery?
I'm sorry to get pushy but I've been trying to do this all day and I just need a few simple questions answered:
1) Is there some special way for me have the phone set up to use the oneclickroot exploit?
2) How can I avoid the error "E:Signature verification failed" when trying to apply the updates I've found around the forums?
3) Is there a special way to boot into recovery mode to 'flash'?
Basically I need just ONE of these answered. PLEASE HELP.

So I did this then booted up and android processes kept FCing (non-stop) so I removed the battery to do a hard reboot and now when I try to boot up it just freezes on the "SAMSUNG www.samsung.com" screen. Am I bricked? And if so can it be fixed? If not think I can still bring it in under warranty and falsify my way into a new phone?

[Q] Latest GPS FIX

Can some one please tell me witch gps fix is the latest one and witch one in your opinion actually works. I see that a popular fix is the Dj05 radio fix and there is even a hardware fix out for the vibriant that bends the gps antenna contact. So witch one should I try first? witch actually works and witch are known not to work?
I searched and came up with a lot of different threads and I think we should consolidate all those threads and list all the fixes and make a poll asking witch fix worked better for the users. This is a very common problem and I am surprised there are no stickies threads been update regularly with the latest info. The biggest problem is that there are MANY threads about it and some are very old, not sure if there are better fixes now.
So please help me list and consolidate all those threads, I will update this post showing all your input. I also have 3 fascinates that all are a little different when it comes to gps and would love to try the fixes and post my results on all three.
Edit: I would also like to write the proper way to test your gps, I see some threads have this buried in between the gps fix steps and I would like to make it more obvious so if you know how to properly test the gps, let me know. I know there are some apps like gps test and status that show you lots of info, would be great to see a list results with a working gps and a faulty one.
thanks.

When I was running stock, and rooted dI01 I laterally could not acquire a signal. I tried leaving it on, outside in the open, for over an hour, and nothing.
Going to dj05 I can lock within 10 seconds or less.
I am so impressed with the difference.

I tried following the guide on this link, successfully installed the radio via odin, tried installing the rom and kernel through clockwork but I do not have an option to choose zip file from sd card. the only option i get is to apply sdcard: update.zip. I changed the name of the rom zip file to update.zip and tried to flash it but it told me it failed to verify whole-file signature. What should I do now?
the guide does not explain much so I need some help.
Did you flash clockworkmod recovery through odin, then flash clockwork from rom manager? If so you should have an update.zip on your sd card that when applied takes you to clockwork then you can choose which zip to flash from there...

I do not think I flashed clockwork with odin, what I did is installed the dj05 Radio with odin by checking pda and finding the file, then pressing start. after that, the phone rebooted and I installed rom manager. Once in rom manager I installed the latest clockworkmod recovery 2.5.1.0. I do not have an update.zip file there on the root of my sdcard. what did I do wrong? How do I fix it? THanks
in about phone I can see that baseband version is s:i500 V.DJ05
The fascinate is different from other phones you need to flash clockwork through odin then in rom manager here is a link on how to flash through odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
Flash that, then delete any update.zips on your sd card, then in rom manager flash clockwork and it will download an update.zip that when applied from stock recovery will take you into clockwork... Once all that is done if you already have the modem installed boot into clockwork and select install zip and find the DJ05 rom you downloaded, flash that and you should be all set...

I rebooted and it does the same, no splash screen. I waited a few seconds to make sure it booted all the way and the screen turn on by it self. seems like somehow I messed up the splash screen. I am going to try and go back to stock then try this again. I tested the gps on all 3 of my phones. white one is still doing the best, OG one (stock) is still doing same as before and the new one with dj05 is using more sats that the OG(6/8), but the OG has more sats in view (5/9). Is that weird?
That djo5 kernel from thread does not support boot animations. It's normal for that kernel.
good day.

Can not update Manually

I have tried to update manually but cant. I have downloaded the file from samsung, put on root of card as update.zip and tried to install from clockwork. Is this the wrong way to do it.
I am on all stock and have clockwork installed. I downloaded from the link that has been provided from samsung It says E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
Firmware version-2.1-update1
Build Number-SPH-D700 ECLAIR.DI18
So is there something I am doing wrong?
If you're using clockwork, you aren't on stock. Last resort is to use the flash utility that Samsung provided. It completely wipes your phone (not your sd card).

Is there a way to remove clockwork besides going back to stock? Also since I do have clockwork installed, will I not get the ota update to work correctly?
I can tell you what I know.
1) The official OTA update does not work with non-stock roms. In your case, your rom became non-stock once you installed CWR.
2) The flash utility provided by samsung will take any epic and clear it of user data and the existing rom and then flashes the 2.2.1 official rom. Your SD card will be untouched, at least mine was.
3) You can always re-root after you've flashed the official release. Do a search in this forum and you can find threads that explain how.
Good luck sir.
Just go get the cwm flashable pre-rooted eb13 rom that dameon87 posted in the dev section. There's also a link to it in the wiki.

That one did not work. Do I need to try to get the one that is not signed. I dowloaded the signed one and it did not work. After the install it tried to boot up, but went to the samsung screen and then into the official factory restore mode and tried to reboot and stuck on samsung screen.
Use the unsigned one. The only difference betwen the flashable and the one from samsung is the flashable is deodexed.

I can't get the manual to work - mine is rooted and rommed, but my husband's is stock.
I have downloaded direct from Samsung 3 times. Once loaded on computer and opened, the Eula doesn't even have the Next button which is needed to proceed.
So strange, guess he will wait for the OTA and drain his battery at an inconvenient time!!

If you are using odin try this.
Start odin on your PC first and have it up.
Put phone into download mode
Plug in your phone via usb and see if that helps.
It already sounds like you have the samsung drivers installed, but check to make sure.

Recovery Mode?

How does one get into custom recovery mode for the Sprint Galaxy tab?
I can't Clockwork into recovery, it takes me directly into the Android Stock recovery, so...basically, I've no idea how to flash a ROM on this.

You do not use recovery to flash ROMs on the Tab. You use heimdall from your desktop. Samsung devices are different from most other Android devices. You can use Clockworkmod to do backups and restores. If you have Clockworkmod installed on your Tab, the only way to get to it is through software on your system. Trying to boot to it only takes you to the stock recovery.
EDIT: You can flash ROMs from CWM. See below posts.
I'm confused, this thread mentions clockwork a couple of times (for example, the thread that explains how to get EXT4 on your tab says that you must press up+power to get into Clockwork in order to flash it).
All I need is a simple guide from anyone here or a pointer to where I can get clockwork. I've used Odin before, but not Heimdall, so I don't know how I'd go about installing a ROM that way.
This is the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275031)
I beg to differ. I'm running ICS 4.0.3 on my Sprint Galaxy Tab and flashed it using CWM 5.0.2.7. I used heimdall to flash CWM, and after that I can flash roms all day long from recovery. Check over at rootzwiki, everything you need is detailed over there.

Cannot setup phone (unfortunately, setting has stopped).

Hello, today i wanted to flash a new rom on my galaxy s4, rooted it a while ago but hadn't flashed a rom. Went to Rom Manager and was gonna do a backup but it was giving me an error so I could not do the backup. Since I had saved all my pictures and everything on dropbox I just went ahead and went to recovery mode and wiped my data so I could flash the new rom. When I tried to wipe the cache partition it just rebooted my phone. When the phone started up I get all the usual setup from TouchWiz. I started setting it all up as usual but when I get to the final screen (learn about key features) I hit finish and then i get the "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." not allowing me to continue on to my home screen. So as of right now my phone is basically a paper weight because I can not to anything. Has anyone else encountered this ? Is there a work around ? Will appreciate all help.
P.s. Sorry if there is already a post about this, I just don't frequent this page very often and don't quite understand how all the search functions and all that work.

First off what firmware are you on. MDL, mf3, mj6, mj9? To check go to settings - more - about device and check build number. If it is mf3 than you need to go to the general section and read how to odin the md5 file same as other build numbers. You just have to take your time and read.

Never use rom manage to flash a rom. As stated, we need to know the firmware you're on to help you.

Can you boot it into download mode?
Edit, do you have a custom recovery on it and did you make a nandroid?
Do you have safestrap or how do you flash roms? Because if you have safestrap than your on mf3.. If you can install Roms without safestrap than you must be on MDL.

I didnt use rom manager to flash the rom, I was trying to create a backup of my stock rom with it. I went to recovery mode to try and flash the rom.

I dont have safestrap, and I hadn't installed any roms on my S4 yet, this was going to be the first time. I use to flash rome on my S2 a while back and was gonna do it for the first time with my S4 through recovery mode. Sorry if im not really giving you key information, I just don't know it. I learned the basics of flashing roms and that was about it. Obviously the wrong thing to do because I might have just rendered my phone useless.

Yes I can boot into download mode. Yes, I have clockworkmod installed. No I could not make a backup, It kept crashing and would not allow me.
I would try to odin the mdl firmware in download mode. You can get the firmware at sammobile.com. You'll have to register but it's free. You'll download a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it. Use that in odin, PDA.

You can try this guide. It's not for the s4 but all the steps are the same. Just don't use any files except for Odin linked in it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26056924

Check to see if there are any popups that you have to allow before a connection can be made. Sometimes they appear behind the ODIN screen (on the PC). Also, make sure you have the proper drivers installed.
If you can get to clockwork, just copy a new rom to your SD card and flash it. You'll be up and running in 5 minutes.
