[Q] Squidly vs Fission (themes) - Droid 2 General

....mods if this is in the wrong section I do apologize, it seems I can't figure out where to correctly post my questions as they seem to be moved every time I think I have it figured out lol...
anywho....
Does anyone know if the awesome themes created for Fission will work on my Squidly ROM? I currently have 2.3.2 Squidly running now and am very happy with it, just don't know if I can use the cool themes for Fission.
Thanks!

I just flashed the black theme that comes with fission to squidly 2.3.20 and it seems to work just fine. It replaces the blur lockscreen with vanilla as well.
Sent from my Motorola Droid 2 with Squidly 2.3.20

You can always try it and see if it works .. just make sure you do a nandroid backup first so you can revert if something messes up.

if you are lucky then it won't cause any problems,
but since themes normally replace framework-res & apps, it can cause problems if the files don't match
but in worst case you simple re-flash the original rom or sbf

[REQUEST] Background for lockscreen pattern.

Hi, I've been using VillainROM 12 for a couple of weeks now, and recently flashed cronos froyo and saw that the lockscreen pattern had the background of my home screen.
Is there any way to port this feature to VillainROM 12 as I have reverted back to it now.
Thanks, Andy
Sent from my HTC Hero using the XDA mobile application
just had a quick look at the htclockscreen.apk from Villain12 but coudn't find any images which think could be for the background of the lock pattern screen. I thought it would be as simple as swapping it out with a transparent image.
however there is an xml called htc_keyguard_screen_lock.xml .
compare the one from cronos to the villain one with notepad++ (my lappy is in for repair, no notepad++ on this one sorry),... or compare the whole apk even.
..... Or beg someone to have a go,.... It cant be that much of a big job.
.... EDIT.... Or nandroid backup, then try just using the htclockscreen.apk from cronos on the villain ROM.
Thanks for the reply. I've had a look for htclockscreen.apk but can't find it,which directory is it is and is it in the system or the flashed zip?
Sent from my HTC Hero using the XDA mobile app
Yeah, so take it from the zip file that you would flash through the recovery.
the apk will be in system/app.
Thanks. I started making some progress, swapping some .apk files between the two ROMs but the went to cronos and did not find 'htclockscreen.apk' it is a vanillaROM so there probably isn't an htc app in it. Do you know what the .apk would be on a vanillaROM?
Thanks, Andy
Oh sh#t,.... How did I miss you were talking about CronosFroyo?... I'm sorry.
Ok, so its not as easy as swapping out the apks. Hmmmm,.... I'll try to have a look when I get home for you.
It might be a no go though.
Get onto the Villain site and ask them in the chat thing.....
Mate, had a look at Cronos Froyo and yeah you're right, nothing in system/apps looks anything like a lockscreen. I think its time you asked the experts........ PULSER.... Help this guy out!!!!

Without a lot of bias (ROM question)

I am looking at a new ROM, I am leaning towards Apex, or Fission but would like suggestions on what the best (better) Droid X ROM is out there. UpsideI, downside etc.
FYI, I am rooted, Deodexed using the 928 black glass, and currently running an Incognito Red theme blurless (which I really like the font of and would like to keep at least the font)
TIA
tried both, sticking with fission right now. Although....Apex was very smooth, but at the time I was using it I was on a release day X that couldnt overclock past 1.1, and with Apex I had about 10 reboots a day. Currently on a new DX that easily overclocks and since installing fission I havent gone back (although im tempted to try Rubix Focused) If you want a clean rom to start with though try fission. Its like starting with a clean copy of Windows, very nice
On fission after being on apex, loving the support on fission. Had no issues with apex rebooting just wanted a change. Gotta say I'm not going back to apex anytime soon.
Whichever you choose, I recommend an sbf before changing between roms. I didn't coming from apex to fission.

Thank for the feedback, however a noob question. With the method of how I deodexed (928 black glass) are there certain ROMS I can or cannot/should not run over this? Blur, Blurless etc? Would I still be able to run the Incognito theme blurless over Fission?
TIA
you wont have any issues, but if you want to double check for yourself open root explorer (i hope you have it) and search for *.odex
An SBF and then following the Fission directions to a T is a must though.
As for themes, only use those compatible, or if there are certain features in a theme you like you can take those specific packages and install them
Fission and darkslide are my favorites. Make a backup and try them all. If you don't like it restore a backup or flash another.

I went from Fission to Rubix, Rubix to me has been much more stable then Fission.

What themes can I put over Rubix? I really like Revolution and Incognito are any of these applicable to rubix?

Not so sure what themes you can put over Rubix I'm sure it's on the roms thread. Right now the theme I'm on is called darkberry, you can find it on droid life forum.

Best way to tell which ROM is best for you is to try 'em all out and decide for yourself. You might be supprised at what you may find.

Camera nowhere to be found

I am running fission 2.4.3 on my d2 and have been trying out a lot of different themes simply installing each over the other. When I finally found one that I liked, I went to flash my non-themed 2.4.2 backup so that I could start fresh. However, upon bootup, my camera and camcorder apps couldn't be found anywhere on the phone.
Please help because I miss my camera
Install the multimedia package from frm

I saw this add on in frm and was wondering if it would be the fix. I will dl right away.
Any ideas on why I didn't need to do this on the first go around?

[Q] Stock blur rom

Is there a rom that is pretty much stock that has stock blur widgets, apps, and stuff. because i actually like blur. AND no i did not make a backup of the stock rom that it came with because i am an idiot.
There is always the option to SBF, returning the phone back to factory stock, then reroot, and just don't flash a ROM.

You'll have to go through the process of inputting your GMAIL account and then *228 option one.

You should definitely considering SBF'ing your phone, per the posts above, and learn how to back-up properly. Doing so will let you play around a lot more freely.
If you're looking for a leaner ROM that's still got the stock experience, try out Fusion by Team DeFuse.
As soon as you boot your phone after the SBF, you will be prompted to activate your phone. Then you will have to input your gmail account info as stated above. Your contacts should automatically re-sync, and your apps should automatically re-download.
i did install fission and i can see how they include the blur in there but is there anyway to install blur widgets on there???

Not sure, I think there is. Go to the Fission thread and read through the discussion I'm pretty sure that should answer most of your Fission related questions.
they told me to use fusion and it would be alot more like blur so now i have fusion but still dont know how to get blur widgets
try apex and you have what blur you want
Im using Squidly 2.3.20 and its full blur

Droid X - Default

OK guys first off: This is my first android device, and I want it to be as fast as possible.
This being said, I just want either a DEFAULT Froyo 2.2 or default gingerbread 2.3 which means none of these stupid themes that motorola puts on it. Now here is why I'm here:
Is there a way without having to go through like 20 different steps in order to get the default android skin on my phone? I've jailbroken many a iphone but this android stuff is very new to me, so I was also wondering if there is an IRC channel I can go to or if someone would be nice enough to either guide me through or pm me through how to root my new phone?
thanks,
mike

I have been reading the stickies, I've also been reading about the roms and themes but there is some lingo in those posts as well as concerns.
For instance for the themes I've read several posts where it says to just load the themes on a rooted device, and yet others like the wiki here which says that specific themes are for specific ROMS.
Another problem with the stickies is I have no clue when someone last updated them, because some like the one for "Easy Root" or "z4root" MUST be old cause you can not find that app on the android Market place.
I just want to make sure that I'm getting the latest programs and such. I also wrote this because the one thing that me as well as a lot of other people want which is: Default Froyo. I dont want a custom theme, I want stock Froyo in all it's glory! Can anyone tell me of an easy to install ROM or easy to install theme that has this??
P.S. If there is an IRC channel for XDA could someone tell me about it? Cause I cant seem to find it at all

I have read most of that, and I get the first post, but then you seem to completely back track on the second one. I want the default Android skin from google on my droidx, so When you first said root I understood; but then you all of a sudden said that I need to deodex it as well.
This is the confusing part since you say in your post that it already included the root as well. So which should I do? root > bootstrapper > deodex? or just deodex then bootstrapper?
You have to be rooted, then flash the deodexed stock rom in recovery mode (hence the boot strapper). From there you can theme to your hearts content and even change the font if you wish.

Just because an app isn't on the market doesn't mean that it's old and no longer useful. And there are a million guides on how to do this. Just find a recent one and go for it
Alright I've done some more reading on different sites like engagdet and there seems to be a legal program called "LauncherPro" Apparently you can reskin with this program, Has anybody used this program? and if so how good / bad is it for removing blur?
My main concern is rooting my phone as well as getting rid of BLUR cause I believe that will slow it down considerably. thanks!
Unfortunately, launcherpro doesn't remove or replace blur, nor does it change things like the notification bar or lockscreen. Its a launcher app, meaning that it runs over blur, replaces the homescreens and launcher buttons. It's great for what it does but for your purposes won't work.
Honestly, I think the best route for you would be to take the time to root and flash a blurless rom like liberty or fission.

flyingpenguin is right.
Liberty is Blurless and you an install a Gingerbread theme on it straight from it's Liberty Toolbox app!
Check out my set up... I have Liberty 1.5 with the Gingerbread Blue theme and ADW Launcher EX.
What about the themes we were talking about earlier? Are those only available AFTER you flash to a ROM? Or are those just available after the deodexing? If so wouldn't that be the best and easiest way to get the stock froyo theme on my phone? or is that like launcherpro in that it just launches the theme over blur?
Also, I've seen your attachments and to be honest I don't like the look of it one bit, I just want a rom with stock froyo or even better stock Gingerbread.
Is there a rom out there with either of those stock? I should be getting my new droid x in the mail by next monday, at which time I'll probably be asking for more help, since I don't want my phone to brick the first day of use lol.
I used the z4 root on my dx. It took a couple of tries but it worked. I went with liberty 1.5 as my first custom rom and I love it. There are plenty of plain roms out there you can try. I just wanted something with a little more umph. Good luck!

well does liberty 1.5 come with the stock froyo skin? or is there a Gingerbread rom already out for the DX?

Liberty comes with a froyo-ish skin. There isn't a GB ROM out for the X yet, but droid2169 (same dev who does Rubix) is working on getting GB to boot on the Dx. He's getting close on it, but there are still some bugs to be worked out. Had some issues with USB mounting last time I checked with him.
The closest you are going to get to vanilla android is either focused or fission
What is this Vanilla thing you are talking about? Is that the name of a ROM that has default froyo / gingerbread them on it?
Also, I don't know if someone already answered this, but the themse people were talking about before: Are they available right after deodexing? Or do I Nhave to install a specific rom THEN theme my phone?
Vanilla means original android experience or as close to it as the kernel allows. That's how I understand it.

oohh ok
If you want to theme the stock rom you have to deodex your phone and then load theme... if you want to theme a rom you need to load the rom (which are already deodexed) then load the theme.... themes are rom specific ie an apex rom is meant for apex and a liberty theme is meant for liberty... there's guides all over the internet for any method you choose
