Hello everybody
I searched 10 times this forum but i could not find it
IS there a way to change animated wait cursor ?? in HTC wizard ??
I found this program http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14638&associateid=162
but i don't think it will work with WM5
thanks,
DNO
yes there is a way. the icon is in a dll. so you need a dll editor. there´s a topic here somewhere in the forum. i read it the other day. just can´t remember where. Just look for dll editor or something like that. i think vijay555 changed his once to a hamster. just keep looking.
Yes there sure is.
It is in GWES.EXE and can be edited using a resource editor (google for Resource Hacker)
There are 16 bitmaps in the Bitmap section, running from 1024 to 1039 for QVGA and from 1040 to 1055 for VGA.
QVGA resolution in 32x32, VGA is 44x44
So change them with the resource editor and copy back GWES.EXE to
your device.
Cheers
thanks tweakradje
got it and I sure knwo how to change pics in dll, and exe
thank you very much
I found only gwes.exe.0409.mui in /windows
is this the one ??

I think you need to extract it from a ROM.
the file gwes.exe does exist. i can see it if i´m in resco file explorer. but i can´t copy it. i always get an encryption error. and if i go through activsync i can´t see it. then i only see the one you see. with the 0409 on it.

EDIT 8 feb 2007: Check this out http://www.masellis.com/wait/cartoons.htm

Been looking into this for a while here, but have had no luck in WM5. I had this great Cartman eating Cheesy-Poofs animation in WM2003 that was so much fun.
Both "gwes.exe.0409.mui" and "gwes.exe" contain the icons that make up the animation for the busy/wait cursor.
Using Resource Hacker I made the change for those 16 icons in gwes.exe.0409.mui. Finally got it to overwrite the existing file in the /windows folder by creating a cab that replaced it after a restart. Unfortunately, even though the new file is now where the old one was, I'm still getting the old animation.
Did the same with gwes.exe using Resource Hacker, but for the life of me, I cannot find anyway of overwriting the file on my PPC. When I tried to overwrite by using the cab file install method, I get a message that says the install was unsuccessful because I didn't have permission to modify the file. I wish there were some way to overwrite the file while it was resetting, or even after a hard reset. I spent quite a bit of time trying to find a way to replace it via the Kitchen Rom avenue, but I couldn't do it.
Any ideas?
Hi,
You only need to replace \windows\gwes.exe.0409.mui in this case (rename the old one first) Then after a soft reset the new animation will show.
Mui must be activated though. Check
HKLM\MUI
Enable dword 0x1
Syslang dword 0x409
Cheers
Thanks tweakradje for the tip to rename gwes.exe.0409.mui first. I removed the read-only and system attributes, then renamed it to .old and it accepted that! Then copied my new file over, and I've got my Cartman back!! Wahooo!
Nice to hear. Can you share it here?
I am always interested.
Cheers

I did that and was able to replace the file with the new one checked the reg settings, I also removed the gwes.exe.0409.old file and I still get the old animation. am I missing something?
do I need to edit the gwes.exe file too?
Hi,
Check in your registry if the MUI values are present and that SysLang is set to 0x409. Of course the file must be in \windows.
No need to change gwes.exe if MUI is working.
Cheers

Please, how to rename the gwes.exe.040C.mui.
I try under explorer and Resco explore, I can't, when I change properties of files, it came back to system and read only.
Thx.

Seems that with my WM5 it does not want to work with the Reg OK and the MUI files changed. It is still going with the icons in GWES.EXE and I cannot copy it from my device to change those icons and EVEN if I could, I would have to copy it back!
Any ideas how to copy over my GWES.EXE?
I've been using the unskinned dialer on my Vogue for the last couple weeks because its much snappier and features an embedded call history. However, after looking at some of the new Diamond custom dialers I've realized I'm not happy with the default skin, so I started pouring over the Windows directory looking for the images that govern the unskinned dialer in hopes I could directly skin it instead of using the dialer overlays.
I was able to find a few files of use, in particular the gifs that control the background color for the call and end keys, the call history images on the left (for call missed/out/in), and the background image. But after changing the files via TotalCommander and soft-resetting, I see no change.
Is there any way to do this without cooking? And does anyone know where else files might be kept for editing this dialer?
ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated.
I'm curious about this too. I've looked all over, but havent been able to find what i'm looking for. Is there a PSD somewhere for the iphone-ish dialers that has the correct splits and things to create our own?
The custom dialers are an alternative to the original dialer...
Look at the files in the CABs for custom dialers, and you will see they have a different set of files. Look at those, and edit them as you want.
Yes, but the custom dialers lose the embedded call history functionality and are sluggish in comparison with wm's default dialer. I don't mind having to cook a rom to get this to work, but I still don't know where all of the images are stored, particularly the ones for the actual number buttons. And perhaps an xml file governing their placement?

Okay...
Maybe this will work...
In the dll files related to the dialer (can't remember there names off hand), there will be graphic files that can be replaced...
Okay, after much searching (now that I knew what I was looking for), I've come up with a list of dlls that may be related:
phcanhtc.dll
phcanoverBMP.dll
dpadmenu.dll
tapres2.dll
tapres.dll.0409.mui
tapres.dll
also, the reg key hklm/security/resover might allow something
Only problem is I realized after continued reading that some of the info I got was related to wm5 roms trying to get smartdialing working like wm6....so if anyone could help me narrow down which dlls are the right ones to edit, that would be fantastic!
also, whats the best way to edit dll and mui files?

phcanhtc.dll -- Contains some BMPs/images
phcanoverBMP.dll -- Contains most of the images
dpadmenu.dll -- Is to do with the dialer workings... Contains no images (I think)
tapres2.dll -- may contain some images
tapres.dll.0409.mui -- is localisation. Mostly just text strings, but may be some images
tapres.dll -- may contain some images
I use "ResHacker" to open up dlls and modify them...
Just tried copying the needed dlls over to my storage card, tried both totalCommander and RescoExplorer, with flight mode off/on, can't get access to tapres.dll, tapres.96.dll, or tapres.dll.0409.mui
Edit: Thanks for the info and the heads up on reshack!
That may be a problem... I'd guess they need to be cooked into the ROM, in which case it may be easiest to take a ROM, dump it, edit the files there, rebuild it and then flash it...
Yeah, I just realized they're rom files and I can't get at them this way.
But I was able to successfully edit phcanoverBMP and change the call history icons.
Thanks for all your help, its cooking time

No probs!
There are also some files in the WM5 ROM I've dumped in an OEM pack called "Phone_DPI_96" that may be of interest...
they are:
Code:
backarrow_glyph.gif
clg_in.gif
clg_miss.gif
clg_out.gif
cmdpad_land.gif
cmdpad_port.gif
cmdpad_sqre.gif
dialpad_land.gif
dialpad_port.gif
dialpad_sqre.gif
anything beginning with "dlr"
handset_glyph.gif
spd_lst.gif
Okay, so I got ahold of a kitchen, but when I found the tapres dlls in the sys folder, they're not compiled -- its a bin file, 2 txts, and an s000. Reshack can't do anything with these files. What do I do?
You need to use "Reversemode" to turn those into a dll, then you can edit that.
I googled reversemode, and all I came up with was reversemode.com which didn't look like any sort of software that would help with this.

well this seems to be a brick wall. no matter which file I try to use revresmode on, it says it doesn't work on .net files.
Thanks for the help anyways tho.
I don't know about changing the font of the dialer, but you can change the dialer within the rom contents (only the buttons and background) I found that there are two separate folders in the SYS folder. the files are read only. unlock them and edit in photoshop. you don't have to relock them to cook them back in, just save them in the same exact format they were in before you unchecked the "readonly". That is how I edited mine. I have no idea why why anyone would bother trying to mess with the dll's?!!!

Doing that gives me a "cannot open input file" error. And yes, all files and folders are not marked as read only.

Sorry!
Afternoon Peoples!
I've had a look through both the Nike and Elf forums but I cant find the thread I'm looking for.
There is a .cab file that changes the directory where the camera saves on the storage card. At the moment is saves to the DCIM folder, after installation the cab changes to My Documents/My Pictures.
Like I said, I've read through and cant find it. I've replaced my Dual today with a new one and I would like to install it!
Ah yeah, I've been after a way of doing this for a while!
There are some registry edits related to this. Try searching the polaris forums, and you find your answer.

First of all, sorry for openeing a new thread; but surely i have searched all of chef central din't find anything much or maybe din't understand which one was my solution.
The problem is after boot of my ROM ( regardless of which boot ie 1st 2nd or 10th ) i get 2 pop up errors:
1) "The file 'programs' cannot be opened. Either is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists please try reinstalling or restoring this file."
2) "The file 'Tools' cannot be opened. Either is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists please try reinstalling or restoring this file."
I have a folder called "Tools" in the start menu, and it works fine, and everything inside also works good. But still this error.
I'm pretty sure all the Packages cooked which are meant to go in this folder do go in.
And the programs error is it anything to do with the fact that in the APP.DAT in almost all packages i have used similar naming:
Code:
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"):-Directory("System")
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools\Tweaks"):-File("Flip_IT.lnk","\Windows\_Flip_IT.lnk")
and also added similar REG in the REGS :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo\Start\Tools\Tweaks\Flip_it.lnk]
Click to collapse
As i was not sure which one will decide the location, so some packages have only .REGs, some have only APP.DATs and some have both ( but all the locations are same that is sure !)
Please help me with this.
Thanks alot.
PS: I have enabled NoCert in EVK, and also cooked in the latest ( 2015 ? ) SDKCerts EXT. And after that no other apps give an unsigned problem.
Just a question, this isnt the full app.dat right?
Code:
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"):-Directory("System")
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools\Tweaks"):-File("Flip_IT.lnk","\Windows\_Flip_IT.lnk")
If yes, you miss some lines, this app.dat is just copying a link to startmenu but i guess that you need the program in Windows.
i'm afraid that is the full App.DAT
here is another one

This seems to be correct right ?
Can you please tell me does APP.DAT decide the position or REG ? and what if both exist.
Thanks.
Can an incomplete app.dat cause those errors ?
EDIT: i have identified 3 packages have incomlete app.dat
1) task manager
app.dat says :

Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools\Utilities"):-File("Regeditor.lnk","\Windows\dotFred RegEdit.lnk")

reg also defines a location.

reg defines location and settings.
3) torch
app.dat says

reg defines settings only.
4) reg editor
app.dat says:

reg defines sttings and location.
Can anyone of the above cause the issue ?
can some please help me correct them ?
Thanks.
EDIT: can someone please tell me the REG to enable Call Waiting Tone.
I don't hear any tone it when i have a call waiting.
The app.dat decide the position of file and folders.
I found thi " Flip-IT" from a Tom Codon thread and i used Cab Converter for extracting it.

In red are the subfolders that doesnt come with the original.
There are some difference with your but i dunno if this is the problem but worth try.
Umm well i have defined those locations as to fit them lnk in the place i want in the start menu.. isn't that the way ?
Im Quoting you from 1st post:
1) "The file 'programs' cannot be opened. Either is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists please try reinstalling or restoring this file."
2) "The file 'Tools' cannot be opened. Either is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. If the problem persists please try reinstalling or restoring this file."
you got this popup error automatically, no need to open any folder\file?
It seems that you put a wrong shortcut to files called "Tools and programs" in your StratUp folder.
Check some other App.dat
i have checked all APP.DAT in the EXT can't find any which i cook and does not get cokked in the correct location ?
Umm and the two errors are seperate not in one only.
So i guess the conflict is there with 2 seperate folders "Tools" and "programs" respectively.
Ideally it should not conflict with tools, because i do have a tools folder in the start menu.. so everything should go there :/
any other help?
Try to cook a rom without one of the latest apps that you have add and if the problem gone then you have find the issue, after that post here the responsable so we can look at it.

I'll try and cook without the 5 EXT i identified with wrong app.dats ?
I have had this problem since long, but i din't bother much, so i really don't know whats the issue..
it has been there basically since i tweaked the start menu locations.
now i have to get rid of it cuz any ROM user won't like to just press ok and continue with the ROM.
I'll try.
My suggestion is to try one by one but ofcourse this way you need to flash 5 times your phone.
Did you ,maybe,tweaked your Initflashfile.dat?

You really need to look in your startup folder to see what is in there. That's the first thing to do. Then, look in the start menu and see if anything weird is going on. Particularly, look for corrupted files or folders. If there are any files that look like folders, that could be the issue.
You're initflashfiles.dat is effin' huge!! Learn to make a cab, or relocate apps to windows. You must be wasting a ton of storage space.
thanks for the help Ted,
In the startup i see 2 folders
1) programs in which there is tools->system->Arkswitch.
2) tools -> system -> XDA_UC.
rest are the normal i guess.
Then in the startmenu it seems fine.
but one problem there i see in the start menu i see a system folder which is empty AFAIK i did not create and such path why is that there ?

I don't use xda_uc, but delete the sub-folders in startup and the problems go away.
App.dat copies files from windows to other places. In many cases, an app works fine in windows. You just need to fix paths (shortcuts, registry) so they point to windows. It's a complete waste to have two copies of all your files, especially when the ones in rom work perfectly fine. Personally, I don't even use app.dat's, except to create directories and to copy the important customization links into startup.
Edit: ok, so I'm looking at your initflashfiles.dat. One, there's something weird with your Manila twitter lines. Why does it appear twice? That's kind of a waste, and will slow down 1st boot. Also, you've got a dozen mui files in there. Just put in the one you need (0409 or whatever), and delete the rest. You've to two copies of a bunch of files that you don't use. Remove the lines you don't need from the app.dat.
As far as relocating apps, you've got 20 or so that would work fine in windows. For example, clean ram does not have to be in program files. Just leave the exe's in windows, and send 1 lang file to \windows\lang. The app will work fine. Do you really need 20 lang files for cleanram? Dude, that's a total waste.
Here's an easy one to fix: pocket rar. You've got two copies of it now on your device. Just get a shortcut for it to windows, and you're done. You stick rar.exe in a package, along with the shortcut, and send the shortcut to the start menu as normal. Speaking of which, it looks like you've got a syntax error there:
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\\Tools\System"):-File("Pocket RAR.lnk","\Windows\_Pocket RAR.lnk")

Thanks sir i got it, now i will impliment it.
Sir if you don't use app.dats then how do you chose which package shows up where in the start menu ?
I do pretty much everything with morscripts. I put all files and directories in zip files that are unzipped during customization, and all shortcuts are created by a script. This reduces the rom file count by hundreds (I have about 1800 rom files), and the zip files reduce the storage memory for files that have to be inserted elsewhere. There's also a restore script that resores files that change a lot and that aren't practical to cook in.
Anyway, were I you, I'd work on fixing all of your packages to make the rom more efficiently designed (instead of worrying about upgrading build numbers). I bet you could removed 500 files and clean up a crazy amount of memory (like 50 mb). It can be tricky moving an app to windows. Some apps have .ini files or similar settings files, and the app will crash or not load if the setting file is read-only, so you need to get the file into windows without having it read only (do it with an app.dat that copies or renames it to windows). Some apps have their settings in the same damn file name (like settings.txt), so you can't have them both in the same directory.
To relocate to windows, almost anything in the root program folder (like \program files\cleanram) can be moved straight to windows. Sub-folders generally just need to be moved to \windows. Typically, an exe looks for .dlls first in its own directory and second in \windows, so just about any dll can be moved to windows without issue. It will then usually look for the support files in the same directory that it's located in. The only apps I've had problems with are resco keyboard (the skin files seem to be hard coded to program files), and the latest Power Radio (2.4.0.2, or something like that). I had a bunch of power radio packages that worked fine in windows, but the latest wouldn't, so I just didn't do the upgrade.
It's usually easiest just to test things without cooking. In your case, you've already got everything in windows. Just click on exes and see what works and what doesn't. Some apps will need sub-folders relocated to windows, and it looks like your cab-to-ext package unfortunately renamed the rom files, so some files in the program folder will need to be copied to windows. Just do this for testing purposes, to see what works and what doesn't. I bet your rom is effin huge, and you could make it a lot leaner by cleaning your packages up. The cab-to-ext makers all more or less suck; it's better to do things manually (or with kheb 1.1).
Edit: you've got the tachan black theme in there twice, too. You really, really don't need those files copied elsewhere. I'm guessing there's a reg file with all the file locations (in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today). Fix it!!! All you need to do is do a 'replace all' and replace \\My Documents\\Themes\\tacchan23black with \\windows. Then delete that gawdawful app.dat file (both occurrences). That will remove 101 redundant files.
Do you remember this from your 1st post?
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"):-Directory("System")
Directory("\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Tools\Tweaks"):-File("Flip_IT.lnk","\Windows\_Flip_IT.lnk")

Thanks ted & af974.
i will try to do things you suggested.
But Ted, what does the attachment mscr do ?
I attached and EXT package from Chucky's Rom thanks to birkoffsjunk, i guess you will understand what mscr does looking at it.

Hi,
I'm using the latest osKitchen (v1.33.5) to build my own ROM for the HTC Kovsky (SE Xperia X1). Followed the tutorial, imported the latest official R3A WWE build, added a WM 21916 build and started cooking. But there's no first boot customization after a flash/hard reset. There are no errors, executing AutoRun.exe from the Windows folder doesn't seem to work either.
The config.txt (used by AutoRun and RunCC) files are left stock, but editing them doesn't make a difference. How can I fix this? If you need more information, just ask. I'll reply asap.
Have you added the runcc.lua file and redirected it to the right config.txt?
If so, flash the ROM and look whether those files are in \Windows\ (and just not executed) or not present.
Flashed the ROM: runcc.lua was already added and it redirects to the right config.txt. Paths are correct.
...
this happened to me not so long ago:
check that the autorun.exe and config**.txt files do not get overwrote during rom creation.
check that there are no duplicate files with those file names..
good luck!
Rn
I don't think those files are being overwritten during ROM creation. How can I check this? Can't find the Autorun.exe in the kitchen but after building and flashing it is visible in the Windows folder on the device. There are no duplicate files, triple checked that.
Tried building a new kitchen from scratch, an untouched build (only importing the stock ROM and the 21916 build) didn't have a first boot customization either.
I remember figuring this out on my X1 a year ago was a pain in the a*s. Can't recall where the problem was anyway. I could upload my OEM Packages for you if you'd like to? I'm using a older version of that kitchen anyway so this "could" lead to new problems...
That would be great! Please let me know what kitchen version you used, if there are any problems I can try to roll back to that one.
I PM'd you. Most persons would not know what to do with said files so it makes no sense posting them here I guess...
...
hey dude,
not sure what your problem is if all your config**.txt are there and there is no duplicate files, for me i had a mortscript called "autorun.exe" which obviously overwrote my original autorun.exe and caused my device to do no customisation.
erm, as for not finding your autorun.exe
lots of files in the kitchen are hidden and the windows hidden files toggle does not show all the hidden files for some reason :/
me personally i use ACDSee photo manager 9 to view the files in my kitchen, i then select all the files and untick the 'hidden' properties.
ALL the files you couldnt see in windows explorer are always visable using Acdsee, by unticking the properties with Acdsee, it now makes them visable in windows explorer.
hope you understand what i meen :s
btw, i only use acdsee9 to view my pictures and to change the properties of the files.
i edit all my images with photoshop and paint.

According to my searching results this issue seems to be very rare. Posting the download link here shouldn't harm others.
For osKitchen version number you mentioned in your PM, open the kitchen and use Help -> About. Don't know if this option was present in earlier builds, but at least in 1.33.5 it is.

I wasn't at the stage of using Mortscript in my ROMs yet. Untoggle hidden system files in Windows folder options did the trick, I found AutoRun.exe
Now I'm gonna sit and wait until the download is available...

cool man, but remember:
the windows hidden files toggle does not show all the hidden files.
Acdsee will show them all so none are hidden, trust me

Will do.
For the others that might experience this problem, the download link for EXT and OEM packages available here. These packages are untested, but I'm cooking them now. Thanks for the help. Scroll down for the fix.
So I think it's working now?
@All: please be aware, those packages are device-specific and for HTC Kovsky / SE Xperia X1!
Ok, tried replacing the existing packages with those from derliebewolf. Even when left untouched or using different (correct) commands there's still no customization. @derliebewolf, could you upload your "osKitchen.exe" and "Resources" directory for me? It's all I need, I can fill the kitchen from scratch there.
If this turns out to be a kitchen specific problem I won't hesitate posting it in the official osKitchen thread.
This is a pretty complicated problem to give advise.
Just a suggestion, didn't you modified/removed something from your initflashfiles.dat?
I mean the startup.
Compair it with a stock rom if you did and check if something is missing.
On my HD2:
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("ConfigureDevice.lnk","\Windows\ConfigureDevice.lnk")
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("bugtrap.lnk","\Windows\bugtrap.lnk")
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("HTCStartUp.lnk","\Windows\HTCStartUp.lnk")
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("PKG.lnk","\Windows\PKG.lnk")
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("SignatureReplace.lnk","\Windows\SignatureReplace.lnk")
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("Welcome.lnk","\Windows\welcome.lnk")

You tried everything possible so I taught maybe this could be possible.
On Xperia it's probably about the same.

You really need to leave the welcome.lnk line in there, or else you won't get the alignment screen and you can't boot the device up.
Found the issue: an incomplete initflashfiles.dat. By adding the lines below to a stock initflashfiles.dat the whole issue has been fixed.
Code:
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("CheckAutoRun.lnk","\Windows\CheckAutoRun.lnk")
Directory("\Windows\StartUp"):-File("AutoShortcut.lnk","\Windows\AutoShortcut.lnk")
Turned out a stock initflashfiles.dat file doesn't have those lines included by default. Thanks to all for the help, expect a new custom Xperia X1 ROM soon.
That's nice to hear, congrats.
Please at [SOLVED] to the topic title and I will link this thread to the solved cases sticky.

Which makes me woder whether those lines are missing in my initflashfiles.dat as well? RunCC is working perfectly anyway... Glad you solved it!
