Afternoon Peoples!
I've had a look through both the Nike and Elf forums but I cant find the thread I'm looking for.
There is a .cab file that changes the directory where the camera saves on the storage card. At the moment is saves to the DCIM folder, after installation the cab changes to My Documents/My Pictures.
Like I said, I've read through and cant find it. I've replaced my Dual today with a new one and I would like to install it!
Ah yeah, I've been after a way of doing this for a while!
There are some registry edits related to this. Try searching the polaris forums, and you find your answer.

Beware!...cause if U have changed to SD card...it stop responding after a while and it makes back to default windows folder!...I suggest to use the Storage folder for ringtones...not the SD card.
For the reminder...I don`t know the answer sorry...

Primoz

Don`t know mate...but I have to change it every day...cause it always change it to a default directory... Look at the thread about it...which ROM version do u use?
Regards,
Primoz
p.s. I was using it with Caller ID...
I have Untouched ROM 1.03.00WWE
When i choose a file and press "set as a ringtone" it SAYS " Copied to \windows\rings\****
But when i check the rings Folder it never does...i don't know
But it is working perfectly even when it wakes up from suspend state or after a SR.
I read the thread about...
Now i wanna know if i can do the same to Themes and alarms
AFAIK for themes you can do it. just place the themes on an SD card or Storage and copy ignore_my_docs to the root and they should appear on your selection screen. As for reminders I haven't seen anything on that yet.
Thank you, worked like a charm.....
Now any1 knows about the reminders?
your welcome been looking around the registry and I've found only one entry for it.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Notifications\Reminders\
doesn't seem to be a directory entry like in rings though.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Notifications\Reminders\
I have seen that before tried to make some changes, but nothing happened.
i appreciate the help
Still looking for a definite answer to whether if it is possible or not?
Hello everybody
I searched 10 times this forum but i could not find it
IS there a way to change animated wait cursor ?? in HTC wizard ??
I found this program http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=14638&associateid=162
but i don't think it will work with WM5
thanks,
DNO
yes there is a way. the icon is in a dll. so you need a dll editor. there´s a topic here somewhere in the forum. i read it the other day. just can´t remember where. Just look for dll editor or something like that. i think vijay555 changed his once to a hamster. just keep looking.
Yes there sure is.
It is in GWES.EXE and can be edited using a resource editor (google for Resource Hacker)
There are 16 bitmaps in the Bitmap section, running from 1024 to 1039 for QVGA and from 1040 to 1055 for VGA.
QVGA resolution in 32x32, VGA is 44x44
So change them with the resource editor and copy back GWES.EXE to
your device.
Cheers
thanks tweakradje
got it and I sure knwo how to change pics in dll, and exe
thank you very much
I found only gwes.exe.0409.mui in /windows

I think you need to extract it from a ROM.
the file gwes.exe does exist. i can see it if i´m in resco file explorer. but i can´t copy it. i always get an encryption error. and if i go through activsync i can´t see it. then i only see the one you see. with the 0409 on it.

EDIT 8 feb 2007: Check this out http://www.masellis.com/wait/cartoons.htm

Been looking into this for a while here, but have had no luck in WM5. I had this great Cartman eating Cheesy-Poofs animation in WM2003 that was so much fun.
Both "gwes.exe.0409.mui" and "gwes.exe" contain the icons that make up the animation for the busy/wait cursor.
Using Resource Hacker I made the change for those 16 icons in gwes.exe.0409.mui. Finally got it to overwrite the existing file in the /windows folder by creating a cab that replaced it after a restart. Unfortunately, even though the new file is now where the old one was, I'm still getting the old animation.
Did the same with gwes.exe using Resource Hacker, but for the life of me, I cannot find anyway of overwriting the file on my PPC. When I tried to overwrite by using the cab file install method, I get a message that says the install was unsuccessful because I didn't have permission to modify the file. I wish there were some way to overwrite the file while it was resetting, or even after a hard reset. I spent quite a bit of time trying to find a way to replace it via the Kitchen Rom avenue, but I couldn't do it.
Any ideas?
Hi,
You only need to replace \windows\gwes.exe.0409.mui in this case (rename the old one first) Then after a soft reset the new animation will show.
Mui must be activated though. Check
HKLM\MUI
Enable dword 0x1
Syslang dword 0x409
Cheers
Thanks tweakradje for the tip to rename gwes.exe.0409.mui first. I removed the read-only and system attributes, then renamed it to .old and it accepted that! Then copied my new file over, and I've got my Cartman back!! Wahooo!
Nice to hear. Can you share it here?
I am always interested.
Cheers

I did that and was able to replace the file with the new one checked the reg settings, I also removed the gwes.exe.0409.old file and I still get the old animation. am I missing something?
do I need to edit the gwes.exe file too?
Hi,
Check in your registry if the MUI values are present and that SysLang is set to 0x409. Of course the file must be in \windows.
No need to change gwes.exe if MUI is working.
Cheers

i would post the original, if only i could copy it anywhere outside windows folder... :/
Please, how to rename the gwes.exe.040C.mui.
I try under explorer and Resco explore, I can't, when I change properties of files, it came back to system and read only.
Thx.
JaY
Seems that with my WM5 it does not want to work with the Reg OK and the MUI files changed. It is still going with the icons in GWES.EXE and I cannot copy it from my device to change those icons and EVEN if I could, I would have to copy it back!
Any ideas how to copy over my GWES.EXE?
Since I don't know how to edit the Wiki pages and I didn't find the information elsewhere I would like to share the solution for revealing the hidden partition of Atom Life here:
Using a registry editor go to
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\Trueffs_DOC1\FATFS\
now open "MountHidden" and set the the decimal value to "0"
After a softreset there will appear "_QHiddenPartition" as a storage card in the file explorer.
Enjoy!

What to do with it, can we store files?

It's simply because I like to know what's going on in my machine. In addition you have instant access to desired files you wish to extract for later use or on other machines. I also heard that it shall be possible to store cabs here which you wish to be installed via the O2 Autoinstall routine after a hardreset. But I also heard that it could be dangerous to manipulate the files in the hidden partition(?)
Does anyone have detailed and reliable information about that?
Regards!

Have you tried with ceregeditor?
Search the forums for a tool called "Kheb" it can take full registery dumps and diffs if you want to track changes.
Stick the task manager in windows, then run the shortcut. You need this folder, otherwise the dump will go to my docs (-storage card-my backups-registry). The registry will be dumped as a text file. You can edit the path in the shortcut. The task manager has to have the correct name, or else it won't work.
48#\Windows\dF_TaskMgr.exe /regxpall \Storage Card\My Backups\Registry\Full Registry Export.txt

much appriciated
also gonna give it a try to see wich one is easier and faster to make the register dumps
Hi Miniterror,
I've dumped the full registry using Registry Workshop form the PC.
It's really easy to use and allow you to change the registry easily from the PC via Activesync.

Sous-Chef's Kitchen Utensils & Appliances Review
Ok, so currently, my ROM has 1 theme purposefully cooked in (HTC Black). And I know where it is and everything in my kitchen.
However, there is another theme that shows up in today settings, that I didn't cook in, it's titled "htc black" no capitals.
It is the same, except it has different photo backgrounds.
I've searched my entire kitchen for .tsk files and disassembled any I've found with WinCE Cab manager trying to find one with those background images, and can't find a single one.
I have no idea what else to do lol. For now, I would be happy with simply removing it as an option from the registy, if no one has any other ideas.
Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated.
Regards
Smith
I thought it was in OEM-operator or 0409 lang. Anyway, does it appear in the dump? If you're using OSBuilder, put it on the dsm exclude list.

I can't find it in either folder.
Dump, as in build log??
The weird part is, it was a theme from another ROM that I played with for a while, then deleted (or thought I did) can't figure out where it would be :/
Last time I could not find something in my kitchen that was turning up on my device it was lurking in my XDA-UC folder on the storage card. Spent ages searching the kitchen as well.....

That's not what's up :/ I checked and it's not there. I have no ideas.
Would it be like a .reg by chance? Or anything but a .tsk?
EDIT: It WAS on my storage card!
Does the .tsk load if you click on it in settings?
Check the value for HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Skin. Maybe a provxml is setting it to htc_black, and that's why you're seeing the ghost setting. Delete or edit the stupid provxml and move on.
I searched through my storage card and it was hiding in some obscure temp folder lol
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
