Hi all, today I decided to mess around with apktool and change a few things I don't like about LatinIME.
First I changed the default Smiley to rather than which worked. Second I tried swapping $ for the GBP pound symbol. Putting the dollar in place of the pound worked fine but the dollar didn't change when pressed. Visually on the keyboard its just how I want it, but I don't know if there's a special character which will display the GBP pound symbol.
Any help appreciated.

Hey,
I've got an XDA Mini S with the original O2 ROM. I've heard that the XDA can't use other ROMS very easily because the keyboard mapping is different to all the other Wizard variants? Is this true?
If not, which ROM is the best? Is it the new T-Mobile one?
Cheers.
Anyone?
the mappnig is not that different... its just the symbols on the 3rd row are to the left from the 'b' key. And and from 'h' key on the 2nd row, iwith the addition of the euro and £ symbols... otherwise its fine

Hi there...
Is any one interested in part exchanging my HTC Touch dual (16-key keypad) with a 20-key QWERTY keyboard version??
Nixu
maybe this helps,
link
It only costs 7 dollar
hey soulcrusher,
Thanks for the link, but I am not sure that if i manage to replace the key pad only, the system automatically changes to handle the 20key keypad .
I have my doubts.
nixu
It (most likely) doesn't automatically changes the handling but it can be changed with a few registry changes. My 16-key dual sometimes has a bug wich makes it to handle like a 20 key version, so you (should) be able to combine any version of dual with any rom.
The two keypads are interchangeable. With the 16 key version, the 4 buttons on the right and left side actually have 2 connectors but they only use the inner ones because the other ones are for the 20 key version
Hi Sorry for the n00b questions but does the 16 key tocuh dual have the 20 key keypad undeneath or do you need to replace the electronics part too?
Raptor
hi, did somebody manage to successfully replace the 16-key hardware with the 20-key or viceversa? I'd like to replace the 20-keyboard with the 16-key on my German Xda Star but I have the same reservasions as raptor-damon.
thx

No it doesnt, and no you dont have to replace any electronic parts
So you can't just replace the keyboard to change from 16 to 20 key then?
I think so, I dont know if the part is soldered on but i think its just a flexcable
change
Sorry for my english
Im would like change my 20 keypad for a 16 keypad , key of registry to change?
Dont know;(
But I found out the layout of the 16 key version is different than the 20 key version so you need to buy the whole keypad itself with the reflex cable and stuff
I have already bought the keypad face from:
http://cnn.cn/shop/touch-dual-keypad-p-2385.html.
But when i opened the phone I found out that I need to change the hardware that has 16 key pressure sensors with a 20 key version...
Any idea from where I can buy one??
Nixu
has anyone worked out how to enable the pound sign instead of the dollar?
The pound, euro and yen signs are on page two of the special characters screen on my GSM hero with norwegian language enabled.
Click on '12#' then '1/2' and it's there.
ah brill thanks guys, been driving me nuts, theres no way i can set it as the defult on the main keyboard?
Hello all,
I've searched through the G2 forums and this one but couldn't find the fix I was hoping for.
On my G1, whenever I typed two spaces after a word it automatically put in a period. I liked that. My DZ also does that. Good stuff.
However, when I forgot to capitalize the letter 'i' in a sentence it would magically change it to a capital on my G1, the DZ doesn't do that and needs two keystrokes.
Can I change a setting somewhere? All I have is Prediction in my menu, and I don't like to use that as it created more work for me than it was worth.
Perhaps using the HTC IME from the G1 ROM?
I sure did like that keyboard layout on the G1 (and it's prediction), too bad we lost the top keyboard row of dedicated numbers; it now takes me twice as long to bang out my epithets.

I have turned on the predictive txt, then added I'm to the dictionary. Then when you type im, even though the green highlighted word still shows "im", it will insert it as I'm.
Hope it works for you and isn't a fluke for me, I'll be well annoyed if I have to keep adding it. Fingers crossed.
Hey ddotpatel!
You were on to something there, and it made me dig...
I prefer to not have the predictive text turned on as I'm worried that it slows down my phone...
I found that in Settings, Language & Keyboard, Touch Input, International Keyboard the Français(Canadian) keyboard was also checked.
Unchecking Français(Canadian) reverted my keyboard to the input I came to know and love on my G1.
The standalone letter 'i' now capitalizes in mid-sentence, and 'im' now converts to 'I'm' after the space key, exactly the way I wanted it.
I guess Bell (Canada) sells these units all across the country and has one default setting to satisfy both official languages.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Wonder if any can help or recommend something for me.
alot of my passwords use special characters like £ and $ and % and my old HTC one M8 had some of these mapped to the usual letters on the keyboard, so it was nice and easy to long press a key to get the character i was after.
with the default keyboard one the 5 i have to flip to an alternate layout to get the character i'm after.
does anyone know if its possible to change this?
thanks
