Now This Was Weird - Vibrant General

My Vibrant with full charge died in less than 3 hours. During this period I've only checked email a couple times. No surfing, txting, etc. whatsoever on my side.
I had it on charge all night. I am sure it was charging because when I plugged it in last night it almost got no juice left and then battery displayed full in the morning. I thought; we might have lost power since it was raining last night but that's also impossible since the digital clock in the bedroom never reset.
I came work around 8AM, put my phone on my desk as usual and I got battery low message around 10 AM and finally it died before 11 AM. I did not install any new apps in the last 10 days.
What might be the cause? Anybody else had this problem before?

Kernel, which?

battery needs to be recalibrated.

@kangxi: stock kernel
@proresearch: how do I do it? What's the reason for a need to recalibrate?
Like couple months ago I was able to use my phone unplugged from 7AM to 11PM give or take some. Recently my mileage started dropping for no obvious reason. Nowadays it dies around 8PM. It might be the NOLED app consuming some or maybe brightness settings. On top, today's short battery life. What's going on???

Yes, on a sock phone randomly my phone will only last like 3-4 hours. Last night my phone was at < 25% after being off the charger for 3.5 hours.
Since I was at the rink that means I didn't actually use the phone for at least 2 hours and 10 minutes because I was on the ice for about that long.

Serious Lulz...

It's just a misbehaving process - it's happened to me every once in a while on every ROM I've ever used. Rebooting the phone should fix it.

I had the same issue....on 2 VIBRANTS! I would charge it all night and in the morning it would display "100% charge". But once I disconnected the charger, it would ask to connect the charger. Low battery. I sent the first 2 back. Currently on my 3rd one and its going good.......for now.

Battery ran down in standby

I left my nexus one, which I just got on Friday, next to the TV and it was fully charged. When I came back to it about 4 hours later it had turned its self off and wouldn't turn on until I connected the charger. The battery was at 0%, anyone seen anything similar?
I have now left the phone off, connected to an AC charger and will turn it back on only when it's fully charged!
Sounds like you got yourself a defective unit.
Charger it fully then let it completely die. After it dies charge it again fully see if that helps.
Charging via the USB cable does not seem to be very efficient/reliable. Using the AC charger is quite fast, and much more reliable.
Also check the apps that are running in the background, and turn off the ones you don't need. I discovered that the animated wallpaper was quite a drain... since I switched to a static wallpaper image, battery life has improved significantly.
It has the star field wall paper, but I didn't think that would run when the phone is locked and the screen was blanked. I'll leave it to fully charge, using an old nokia charger from a n85.
So the recommendation is to run it tomorrow until it dies then charge in the off state and only turn on when it's fully charged?
I have had a G1 for the last year.

Yes, and use the charger that came with the N1.

I have the same problem. I got the phone approx. 1 week ago. before i go to work, I would have a fully charged phone. during lunch break break, ( about 4 hrs later from fully charged) its below half already! then 2 hrs later, its at to the point where it says connect your charger. Finally, off work, Phone is turned off and dead at 0% battery life. When im working, i dont even use the phone to browse or anything. just check the time on it and put it back on standby. I dont know whats wrong. Ive also rooted the phone btw with MoDaCo's rom. Any suggestions?
It was fulling charged again about 3 hours ago, not I've left it without wi-fi and with a static wallpaper and the battery is still full. I wonder if the wi-fi or the live wallpapers keep running even when the screen is off. I have checked and wi-fi is set to sleep when screen is off :-/
While modern batteries don't have the "memory" problems that cause them to lose life, they can suffer from miscalibration which will cause them to inaccurately report their remaining charge. If they report a very low charge to the phone (when this may not necessarily be true) the phone will probably turn itself off.
To recalibrate your battery, force it to drain completely. Even after the phone turns itself off, turn it on a few times more. I can't guarantee this is good for your phone, but it should get the last of the juice out. Then, when you let it charge, let it charge LONG after it reports being full, at least a few hours, to make sure it's completely full.
Sounds like something isn't quite right with your phone tbh. I have the star field wallpaper, wifi on and it's checking e-mails for 2 accounts every 15 mins.
I've also had some phone calls, been surfing the web, market and generally played around with it since I just got it on friday.
I checked the battery info on the phone now and it's been 15 hours since I charged it and it's now on 46% still. In my (limited) experience the battery seems to hold up pretty good on this phone.
That's the weird thing, it was fine Friday night and Saturday night and that was including quite a bit of playing with around
I received my phone last week. the battery was fine the first four days. after that the same problem stated above happened to me. the battery dies every 4 or 5 hours even in standby with no GPRS, WIFI or BT.
I did a complete wipe-out and the problem was gone.
I think that there were something that is draining the battery and gone with the wipeout.
by the way, i was using MCR and still using it.
thanks.
It has now been sitting for another 7 hours without wi-fi or starfield and the battery is still showing full. I'll now enable wi-fi and see how that goes. Then I'll try statfield later on. I'm wondering if the starfield keeps running even if the screen is blanked.
Actually it's showing 92% in the About page whereas the icon look full :-/
First day with nexus at work. Unplugged it from the main charge at 6:30 am at till 1:00 pm its was turned off. Made 3 short calls, no wifi, bluetooth, or gps and screen set to auto dim.
Only 6 1/2 hours is not long enough. I wish there was like a juice pack for nexus like the iphone. I could buy another battery but cannot be bothered carrying too many bits with me and opening it and changing.
Aslo charging through usb is very very slow.
my phone did this yesterday too, first time ever. I dunno why it drained so fast, something must have kept the screen on in my pocket or something.
Here's what I found.
I got my phone friday, took it off the charger and went to bed. When I woke it up was dead. What I do know is that since I'm with Roger's in Canada I don't get the 3G. I think it was searching for a 3G signal all night and that's what killed it. Try limiting it to 2G and see how the battery stands. I went a full two days without a charge, playing with it every chance I got and wifi turned on.
I'll try the 3g thing as the phone reception is poor in the room I left it. It is at 79% with the star fields wallpaper and wi-fi enabled (sleeps when screen off)

The star field wallpaper KILLS my battery even when the phone is idle with the screen off, just FYI... I switched to a default regular wallpaper and it has been fine since.

There gotta be something wrong with your phones or some software that is draining it.
Like I said on the previous page I use:
WiFi on
Star Field live wallpaper, with the background image nontheless
Some GPS use
Several phone calls
Some texting
Browsing the web
Screen brightness at maximum
2 email accounts updating every 15 mins
My battery still lives through the day with ease and I'm usually at 40% when I go to bed at around 1 am. I would call HTC or do a thorough check at what software is running.
edit:
Oh and I have 3G on with low reception (1 bar) where I live.

Rapid battery discharge all of a sudden (Faulty Hardware??)

I've done a search but can't find anything to do with my issue. I am running L26LEOV2.1_GoldEdition_213_WWE_21899_SE and have been for probably a month. Everything has been running excellent. I've got AS pushmail, weather etc all running and had no issues.
All of a sudden the battery life has disappeared. Noticed my battery at ~30% last night which was strange as I usually charge every night or 2nd night but it's never that low. After about 45mins it was at 8% just sitting idle (no data or anything running).
Did a full charge last night before going to bed and unplugged it. So 100% charged. This morning I found the phone is off, turn it on and its on 0% then shuts down again due to no power. Would only be like 6-8mths old.
I haven't made any software/ROM changes in weeks so I'm fairly sure it is hardware related. Before I go back to stock ROM and send it in for warranty work, does anyone have any suggestions for things to try beforehand? I don't want to go back to an old Nokia while I'm waiting
You could try BattLog to see where/when the rapid power drain is occurring. I've had my battery do the same thing once. I usually get through the work day with 50% left, but one day (without any use) my HD2 was dead before lunch. The problem went away as mysteriously as it arrived. So maybe just give it a few more charges and see if it works itself out. I'm curious if you've noticed any unusual ammount of heat from the battery? It could very well be that it is failing.
I'll try that program but oddly enough today its been ok, using only 10% with a bit of google maps and phone usage in about 10hr.

Horrible battery life

My Huawei has a horrible battery life. I'm using stock rom (rooted of course) and the battery drains really fast, like 5-10% an hour even in sleep mode. I have used a battery calibration app recommended by someone here in xda, but I don't think it made any difference. My last Android phone used around 1% an hour, even with data and sync on, but with pretty much the same settings, I can hardly make it through the day with my Huawei.
So, what to do? I don't need the battery to last for days, but having to recharge twice a day at worst is just too much.
My battery drops around 7-10% overnight.
Probably a defective cell?
mine after i installed custom rom (b160) and a battery calibartion in flight mode during my sleep after 7 hours that passed and woke up it was 1% dropped and now 7 almost hours afterwards in normal mode it has dropped 7% with very light use of course...
i want to say just that with gsm active it drained 5% more than in flight mode...
so something must be going wrong , like you don't have a good signal and it uses much power to keep your connection alive and have better signal....
i must say that i have a profile with setcpu when the screen is off with min 122 and max 460...
and just for the record i think that with custom rom also mine was dropping more...
i don't know why although...

Noticed this myself. i use spotify alot on the phone, walking, bicycling, at the gym. and it drains a whole lot of power even in offline mode. but if i set it in flight mode the phone last for hours and hours without even dropping 5-10% of power. but when gsm or data traffic is on the battery life just drains out so quickly! so it is definitly something serously wrong in this rom. Im hoping gingerbread is coming soon to this phone, so maybe all these small issues has been fixed.
I've found highly variable battery life. Sometimes it's awful, almost 50% overnight when it's sleeping on my nightstand, other times it's much better and only drops 7-10% under those conditions.
One thing is Google Maps, even when not in use it seems to suck battery like crazy if it's loaded (and it has a habit of getting loaded even when you don't run it or any apps that use it). There's a long thread on this in the Google support forums, but no sign of a fix from Google yet.
I've found doing a 'force stop' on Maps if it's running often helps, another thing is to reboot the phone after you charge it, that seems to fix it for several days sometimes, but then it starts sucking juice again for no apparent reason, so I tend to reboot it after each recharge. There can also be other apps that due to bugs can suck battery, for a while there app killer did this but the author put a fix out pretty quick and it shouldn't be an issue now.
Just noticed that there's an Android update from Huawei now available for download, maybe that'll fix some of the irritations and help with battery life; I'm off to install it!
where can you find that update? through phone's settings->check for update (in my case it says i got the latest version) or online?
My phone has been on for nearly 48 hours.. charging it right now. I played, connected to wifi, browsed the net, facebook, gmail etc.. and I really played hard on it for a few hours.
30mins ago it switched off, dead battery.. I'm quite pleased with the battery life

Exactly the same problem here. I formatted now both the internal and external SD card, let's see if that helps.
edit: No it doesn't. The problem seems to be that my phone doesn't sleep properly. I charged it to full, then turned the screen off for one hour. App called Spart Parts shows that since last unplugged, time spent without sleeping is 36m.
it took mine 2 weeks to get to the full battery life. now i get 36-48 hours from it.

After 5 weeks i get about 12hrs. No GPS, no 3G. About 10min ago i took the charging cable off. Now Battery History in Spare Parts show that "Since last unplugged" time spent without sleeping is 10m 33s (99.9998%), and time spent with screen on is 3m 23s.
im thinking of buying this phone is it available in India ? also can this device be rooted n what about the custom roms ? are they available as there is nthng on XDA :'( . And what about its battery life even being 1500mah is it so awful ?

Now after factory reset it seems that this is fixed. Over night with Wi-Fi and all sync's enabled, it took about 20% which is quite ok.

The problem is back... For some unknown reason the phone doesn't go to sleep and starts to use more battery.
Battery History:
Other usage, since last unplugged:
Running (100%)
Screen on (3,2%)
Partial wake usage, since last unplugged:
Android System: Total time: 13s
Dialer: Total time: 0s
Maps: Total time: 0s
It seems that reboot helps with this every time. After reboot, running-% is 32.9 when screen on is 6.5%. It would still be interesting and helpful to know what causes this.

I get most of the time also. But after charging, at one point (after some time) for some reason the time spent without sleeping goes to 99%. The problem is, that the partial wake usage doesn't show that something is wrong. Usually restart helps, but sometimes it can be already late, because 100% running has already taken quite much of the battery.
Also, when the time spent without sleeping is 99% or 100%, the CPU is still NOT in heavy use. So something just prevents the phone to go to sleep mode, and it seems that it is not the CPU that causes it.

I got it through the phone, it was the 2.2.1 B136SP02 update. Not online at Huawei website. It doesn't seem to have improved battery life alas (or the frequent WiFi dropouts I've had since new, particularly while downloading app updates). Main feature of the update is WiFi tethering/hotspot support, at last...
What seems to have worked for me after a couple of weeks++ of REALLY crappy battery life is a battery stats wipe.
FullCharge while the phone was off. First boot in recovery, battery wipe and then i just let it run close to dry before the first charge (almost 48 hours of medium use). Note here that i am now using the charger that came with the phone because i noticed that my generic usb one had an output of 0.7A instead of the full 1A of the factory charger.
Another point arose however. Does anyone else have stability issues when battery drops below 25%? I am talking about some serious crash/reboot/lag/noradio issues.

Bizarre battery usage behaviour

My Galaxy Note has been performing beautifully since I got it back in January. I typically get several days out of a battery charge - I'm a pretty light user. Two days ago I powered it off for a couple of hours. After turning it back on I made one short call, then nothing the rest of the day. I think it was indicating about 50% power remaining when it was powered off. That night, I was surprised to see it way down at 15%, so I charged it back up to 100%. I did note that I had left the Messaging application running, but that's all - no wifi, bluetooth or anything like that. Next day I was astounded to see that charge last only about 4 hours (according to the meter). Not only that, but the phone actually felt warm to the touch - something I've certainly never observed before. It was like it was running on amphetamines or something!
I was sufficiently alarmed by this to power it down again, remove and reinsert the battery, and power it up again. At that time it was charged up to about 75%. The weirdness continues - since then, about 10 hours ago, it has been almost locked on 75%. It may have made 1 or 2 calls in that time, but no other use at all. I do not have any of the power saving settings enabled, and I'm running Android 4.0.3.
So the question is - has anyone else seen any behaviour like this? Can it be just the battery monitoring getting out of sync? Can powering it down do that? It would not have bothered me too much if I hadn't felt the over-warm case. I find it hard to see how that could be caused by software, but it's a strange and murky world in there!
no updates installed of os.?
no new app recently installed?
Try andosensor and check battery level if its around the normal capacity when charging. Could be battery issue, could be a many things

I did update the OS, but that was a couple of months ago, long before this happened. I observed immediately after that update the battery usage seemed to get worse, but after a couple of discharge/recharge cycles, it got its act back together and has been fine since. That's why I was wondering about monitoring software getting out of whack this time - but couldn't see how software could make the case warm!
No new apps for at least a couple of weeks. I'll certainly have a look at Androsensor, thanks for the reply.
Your phone isn't going into deep sleep. Use an app called CPU spy to check this.
Mine usually recovers back into deep sleep after I reboot my phone.

Check for partial wakelocks. Otherwise, if you're complaining about battery percentage dropping when you reboot, that's because the battery monitor believes that the battery is not as charged as it really is due to high CPU load dropping the voltage.

Horrible battery life?

I got an S4 i9505 replacement yesterday from my insurance company. It effectively seems to be new phone and battery, anyway when I turned it on it had 70% battery left, I logged into my various things and it sat about downloading and restoring and installing a 5.0.1 update, the process took about 30 mins and at the end of the 30 mins I had 9% battery left, I connected to the charger and it was full again in 30mins which I found odd.
Anyway let it sit on the charger all night, took it off this morning and with 2 mins of screen on time I am already at 94%, I can't see how this thing will last the day.
I am not a newbie, I have things like sync and GPS etc turned off and screen brightness lowered however in saying that even at the lowest setting it seems very bright.
Any ideas?

You cannot jump to conclusions based on this. Your device was setting up, your battery needs to settle etc. It's normal to discharge faster.
Try a few charges / discharges and see if it helps.
But most likely if it's charging way too fast and discharging fast as well, the problem is most likely the battery itself, it might be a old one.
Right ok, been using this for a few days now, with basically everything turned off I am getting 1 hr screen on time, something not right but can't figure out what
