Replacement with Manufacturer Warranty? - Epic 4G General

Has anyone gotten a replacement through the 1-year warranty with Samsung? I just got off the phone with them and they said they don't replace phones only repair them which sounds like bs to me. Issue I have is with the loose screen. It's very loose open or closed.

They will probably try to repair first. If it's not repairable, then they'll give you another one (most likely refurbished).

Yea that's how they do it man, htc does it same way, I had my nexus one repaired in june, took about 9 days from the day I sent it out, tell I got it back repaired. I don't know about samsungs turn over time though.

screen separation fix?

any one have a fix for the screen separation, maybe a guide to glue it down properly, thanks!
That's a manufacturing defect and would be covered by the warranty I would think. Take it back.

Someone posted a blow dryer method a while back, try to search for it. Not sure if it works well.
Or maybe it was for light leakage. Idk.

Outside the 30 days it would be an HTC warranty issue I was told from sprint, and has to be sent to HTC. Chances are you will get a refurbished phone in return(also told from sprint) if they don't fix yours. Not sure how long it takes or if you get a loaner phone to use while waiting for HTC. This is what I was told and have not sent mine in yet cuz my screen is just a little uneven and not really separating yet and hopefully it won't.. but I have read on this site some one used a hair dryer and a clamp. Try to search for it. Not sure how long that fix will work but it might be worth a shot if your outside the 30 days... like I said I was told this so maybe I just had a douche on the phone that didn't want to help...
I'd take a refurb over a rigged fix any day.

My fix is to use a case that covers the light leak on the bottom haha.
Until it's a serious problem I'm good with that.
yea i dont think its gonna be a problem i just hate that light leakage, and i dont want to take it back cuz i love this evo hardware 002 got it at launch
wow....so i just used a hairdryer like an inch away on high for about 3 min and pushed down really hard and then flipped it over and pushed down for about 30 seconds, seems to have worked, a little bit of light very minute shows but thats because of something else cuz when i push down on it i still see it, but yea awesome trick thanks!
I'm having the same issue with my Evo. After going back and forth with Sprint customer service, it was finally arranged that insurance will cover a new phone, but sprint will waive the deductible. So, I get a new phone from the Sprint corporate store when they get the next shipment in (hoping it's not preloaded with 2.2 ) I had my phone for about 40 days before I really noticed the problem.

You can file a warranty claim with Sprint. I did and it was free for my broken usb.

Yes, but nobody wants to pay the $100 deductible on an insurance claim for something that is a manufacturer defect and should be covered under warranty.
I would rather do that, than have to hassle with HTC and their 3-4 week turnaround. At least, that is what I have read on various forums.

Evo microUSB charging part broken?

From what i have read, a broken microusb port on an evo from tripping over it or dropping while charging is common. I have also read that in the past, customers with this problem have been denied repair or replacement by sprint. As of now, the most current instruction given to sprint employees is to give a replacement phone. I am getting my new evo on thursday. similar experiences with sprint support?
My wife and I both had issues with this on our first phones within a couple of months of getting them launch weekend. Sprint acknowledged that it was a problem and promptly replaced them, albeit with refurbished phones.
The refurbishment must have worked, though, since neither of us has had any charging problems since.
[edit]
Well, until today, that is. I think I broke it myself this time, though.
[/edit]
This is what I absolutely hate about sprint, they cannot get their sh1t straight. One store will do it, another wont. Thats ridiculous.
Anyway, the usb port breaking IS a hardware failure, and IS covered under the 1 year warranty. If a sprint store gives you crap about it, call *2 and talk to Account Services, tell them you will cancel your account if they dont fulfill the warranty.
Yeah the insurance only covers software problems like the phone won't even turn on same Thing happened to me it broke Sprint denied me and I had to go to a phone repair shop paying $118 but one time my phone didn't turn on because the heat fried it (summer time) and they replaced it.

No, insurance is for lost, stolen, or broken (by you, i.e. you drop in toilet or run over with a car). Anything else that YOU didn't do to the phone is considered a manufacturer defect, and is covered by the warranty. I hate to say it, but you got screwed, you should have gotten it fixed for free.
I'm having the same issue right now. I've had my phone for 10 months and the USB port went defective a few weeks ago. I have to wiggle the cord around to get it to charge and sometimes it will and sometimes it won't.
I'm trying to get my phone back to stock because i used Simple Root v.1 when it came out last year.
This thread says i can just flash a stock signed rom, but my phone says "S-off" even though i never used unREVoked forever. Do i just flash the rom anyway?
My first Evo had the same problem within the the first 4 months. I purchased it and launch and found out that it was a hardware defect but could not go through all the hastle of getting it fixed. I would have been phone-less for too long so I ended up paying 35 to the local repair spore and got a new phone. I have yet to run into the same problem with the replacement phone. I wonder if I could get the 35 refunded to me because I do have chat logs where representatives said it was a defect.

My first launch day EVO broke 2 months in. One sprint store told me I would have to call the insurance and so I went to another sprint store and for $35 got a replacment.
No consistency!!
Well when I asked sprint if they could fix it they said damages like that would be through your one year warranty with HTC and would have to pay deductible.

You need to run a ruu my guess is your rooting process installed the ENG bootloader and that is why it still says s-off

It depends on how the charging port is detached from the board. If the solder joints are left intact, it's a manufacturer defect and is actually a known issue in the Sprint system.
If the solder joints are damaged or "torn", then it's customer abuse and an insurance claim will have to be filed.
Would the loud speaker being muffled be considered a defect? I have a speaker problem and charger problem. Sprint was telling me $39 to fix it, which sadly is cheaper than I can do it since you have to buy about 6 speakers online

Definitely unroot it. Lady at my local Sprint store got all uppity with me because she saw CM7 on mine. x_x
I went in with mine rooted and all. The guy actually was pretty into the phone being rooted lol. Asked me what time I was using etc. Charge port was broken, ordered me a new (refurbished) phone, sent me on my way lol.

I believe I posted this in another thread, but can't remember.
It depends on how the port is damaged. If it just pulls completely loose from the board, solder joints intact, then it's a known issue. Replacement will be given through S&R.
If the solder joints are broken or the charging pins are bent, it's considered customer abuse and an insurance claim will have to be filed.
The ports cannot be replaced in a service center. I work in an ASC & the service centers do not solder anything back on to the board so replacement is the only option.

Heads up! Exchange and Asurion Evo's shipping with 2.3

Just to give people a heads up that need their EVO's exchanged via service centers or replaced via insurance. For the past few days ALL replacement Evo's that I've had come in have been flashed to the new OTA prior to shipping. There may be instances where some service centers may have some 2.2 Evo's on hand (not likely) but for the most part expect to get a 2.3 Evo if you need to have yours replaced.
got mine replaced and got in Wednesday still had 2.3

What's the refurb date on yours. The ones I'm getting in are no more than a week old.
The biggest complaint about Sprint I could have is that they run everything through insurance. Verizon (who I left to get Evo) would replace your phone with no deductible if it was a defect. IE: not charging, something not working properly etc etc. There basically could be no water damage and the phone had to be less than a year old. I pay for insurance for other reasons, such as loss, theft, drop a brick on it and such.
You guys have the same experience? Just trying to see if its the two stores I've went to that "look" at the phone and say if you want a new one do it through insurance.
i have two repair centers here next to me who always replace my phone for free, as long as there's no water damage, r u sure u r visiting repair centers?
A repair center near me was going to replace my phone for free sure to a speaker defect. No insurance needed. Same for others I've talked to. A long as it is a defect in the phone then they will replace it for free.
Where the phones activated? If so that's why it was 2.3

The only time we replace phones is if there are main board issues, everything else we repair in house. Main board issues are cover under the exchange program and we order the exchange right away. If it's shattered screens or water damage the we check to see if the customer is eligible for an upgrade so we can present the customer with options (upgrade or insurance). If they want to file a claim we walk them through it.
PM me where you live and I'll see if I can't track down a decent service center.

Thank you so much for the solid info. I'll shoot you a message later after I get out of this meeting. Again, much appreciated.
It's usually pretty cut and dry if you take it to a Sprint Service/Repair Center. If there is physical damage then it will go through Insurance. Hardware defect it is swapped free of charge. They have the option to repair some physical damage...... If you take it anywhere else they will insurance it for the $100 or send you to a Sprint Service/Repair Center. We'll they should remind you, but usually don't.
I have never had to pay a single claim except for when I lost my phone.
I went to a Sprint Repair center once to have my screen swapped (I have the white spots that are a manufacturer defect) and they told me I would have to go through insurance. I haven't tried a different Service/Repair center yet. Know of any good ones in the Miami, Fl area?

Anyone have warranty issue with Sony?

Very poor service from Sony, few months ago I sent the phone back for warranty repair, due to logic board failure. They sent back a replacement handset with most of the print faded off the sticker on the behind the battery. Just able to see the imei, phone had the same problem again 6 weeks ago. This time they told me phone was dropped and physically damaged and not cover by warranty, but the phone has never been dropped, not even a tiny scratch on it, been on to them 4 times, they just not willing to repair or replace the faulty phone. Its less than a year since phone was bought. Anyone else have issues like this with Sony? I hope they will never get a sell on their phone anymore.

Mine xperia x10 has defective motherboard and I sent it 2 times for service but nothing changed. They didn't fix it.SE's service is crap!Try to explain your situation but i don't think they will understand.
Been on the phone to them many times each time over 30 mins.they don't even want to let me talk, keep trying talk over me or else they keep talking while I'm still talking like a 8 year old arguing with me.

I understand...I am afraid you can't do a lot of things.I will not buy a SE mobile again. You have a problem and they don't want to help you. They don't want you to be their customer....

The x10 is built to fail.
I sent mine in 5 times before they finally replaced my board. 4 months later i am having problems again.
i am more pissed at their 1 year warranty.
Why the hell this expensive phone have only 1 year warranty.
make it 2 year at least especially how many people get phone base on 2-3 years contract.
I am glad they get hacked, it bring me justice to see they lose money but on the other hand, they will just shift their burden over to customers.
I promise myself, this is the last sony product (other then game console) i will ever buy.
They care about profit above all else so use the cheapest repair option.
Sent mine in had to ring em up to stop em just sending it back with a software reinstalation. Eventually they replaced the motherboard and managed to put loads of dents in it and scratch it everywhere!
Now it's started to have the same restarting problem again! Becoming more and more frequent like last time. Hope the warranty isn't 1 year as mines just run out

I've heard from some other members that they got their X10s back from service with dents and scratches. Also, in another case, SE replaced a sim-free phone under warranty with a sim-locked one!!!
I am wondering: aren't they supposed to give the phone back in a better condition?
I think if they can assemble the phone without dents, then why do they have to do the dents when they are repairing? This just doesn't make any sense to me.

They scratched my x10 to S#1^ when they replaced the board.
So you can only think how angry i was about that.
My motherboard was dead, send it in. 4 weeks later I got a new one.
I may be wrong but I believe SE warranty is actually 2 years for x10

My S4 wont turn on

My S4 fell down and the screen broke. Since then it won't turn on. Any diagnostic tools or solutions out there?
I know about shops that repair phones!
Call samsung customer services...all samsung products/phones come with a 24 mnth warranty as standard...theyll send you a postage bag to send them the phone in to them..totally free of course. Do not pay an independant repair shop who could possibly damage your handset further...rendering it out of warranty. This is your best bet if you fail to get it working yourself

A broken screen is not covered by warranty if I am not mistaken. And the fact that it died when it fell and the screen broke makes me think that the two things are related?

Nobody can help with this except Samsung.
Yes, broken screen is not covered by warranty, so you will have to pay for that and it's possible it's just that. Screen is not working so you can not see if your phone booted or now.
Go to Samsung support.
You don't have to send it to Samsung. Take/send it to any reputable repair shop. I broke mine a couple of months ago after I only had it for about 3 weeks. I called Verizon to find out if they had it in stock (I was ready to just buy a new one) and they actually told me to go on the internet and look for screen repair places because it would be cheaper than replacing the phone. I found a place in Times Square and I walked it in and 45 minutes later (and $280) I had a working phone again. Haven't had a problem with it since.
