stupidfast gps toggle - Fascinate General

I used the ROM Manager to install the new Black Hole custom rom with a stupidfast kernel (for the DI01, not the DJ05) and I'm having problems with the GPS toggle.
Am I doing something wrong? Should I just go with DJ05 and then a new stupidfast kernel?

The Development forum is meant for ROMs/Apps/Kernels/etc. Not questions about development or general questions. Those should be posted in the General forum. Read here

Maybe I didn't word it correctly. Is there something wrong with the StupidFast kernel v1.23 for toggling GPS?
Would that pertain to a specific enough kernel question?

I had the same problem with that version. The older versions seemed to run better on my phone.

[Q] Kernal Question.

Hello, right now I am using JTsuperclean ROM and his kernel. If i were to just flash Stupid-fast right over that, would my phone still work? Sorry if this is kind of a stupid question.. I am still learning about my phone and what I can and cannot do.
That is exactly how its done.
Your phone should work great. I am on stupidfast undervolt and like it a lot.
Have fun.
P.S. its voodo that can change how you flash from one kernel to another.
As long as its not voodoo you can change at will.
Sent from my stupidfast Fascinate
yea it depends on if your kernel has voodoo or not.
IF YOU HAVE A VOODOO KERNAL DO NOT FLASH STUPIDFAST.
you need to uninstall voodoo first
PS: dont post questions in the development section, the general section is for that.
Alright thanks. I know for a fact i am NOT using Voodoo. i made sure to use non-voodoo. So i can just change ROMS and Kernels whenever I want, as long as i am NOT using voodoo?
Yes

[Q] BLN with StupidFast 1.2.3

How can I enable BLN with this Kernel? BLN Control says I need to go into "advanced ULK features" in CWM but I dont have that option in my CWM anywhere. Running CWM 2.5.1.0 according to Rom Manager. Is there another way to enable it?
Sorry if this has been answered.
I haven't tried that kernel, but which version of the BLN app do you have? The one from the market works with some kernels, but you need the one from the I9000 forum post for others. If you search "bln app" in the I9000 forum you should find it - its the .5 alpha version for older kernels. If you can't find it let me know and I can link it but I'm on the xda app right now .....

I'm using the latest from Market. I tried to find 0.5 on the forums but was unable to. Can you post a link please?
Sent you a PM......
Tried using the BackLightNotification settings 0.5 alpha but it says BLN is not installed on this device.
BTW, I was wrong, Im using StupidFast 1.2.3.
Any other suggestions of how I get to that other feature in CWM Recovery?
I don't believe our phones have that feature in cwm. Crazy thought but what about trying a different kernel? I don't know how important vibration or haptic is to you but I'm running jt's latest 11/29 non-voodoo kernel and it has both bln and vibration. I don't know what else to suggest if neither bln control app is working for you. Or what about the newer StupidFast kernel on ROM Manager - I think its v. 1.5.

Yeah I could try the JT non-voodoo. Can I just flash the JT kernel in CWM directly over StupidFast and do the same in reverse if I need to roll back? I can live with no haptic but I need the phone to be able to vibrate for rings and notifications so I know StupidFast 1.5+ is not an option now.
Yes you can flash it right over the StupidFast - I did and had no problems. Are you familiar with irc? There's a download link there for the 11/29 kernel - just make sure you get the right one because there's a voodoo and non-voodoo one. PM me if you have trouble finding it.

Thanks... that worked.

SuperClean with Blackhole Changes?

I flashed superclean and then made changes thru the modify option in blackhole. Is that the best way to do this or Should I just stick with one or the other?

Those mods are minor and won't hurt anything. I personally find them quite useful, as they give me access to needed or missing apks, kernels, themes, etc.
For future reference, questions like these belong in the general section

I have blackhole and was applying a mod from superclean. It kinda messed up my phone. YMMV

[Q] flashing kernels

at this point i flashed my fascinate following directions on the dj05 rom, kernel, radio thread. However, I went with Stupidfast v1.54 kernel. I'm operating fine, but how do i know the kernel flashed? everything shows success, but does the kernel version show up in phone info ie. my Kernel Version still shows 2.6.29
sorry for the noob question
2.6.29 is the linux kernel version that samsung's kernel is based upon. All the current custom kernels on the fascinate are still based on samsungs code. If installation of stupid fast went smoothly without error that should be what you are running. Also this is not really a question for the dev forum.
Thanks for the reply, this is where I found the info originally so I figured best place for answers.

You could install the app setcpu...open the app, set to autodetect when it prompts you, then press the info tab and it will give you kernel info at the top.

[Q] Help me understand Kernels...

Please excuse my noobieness, but could someone explain to me what exactly kernels are pertaining to roms? The reason why I ask is because I have the Fascinate with EB01 with Voodoo. I want to use Superio's voodoo sound tweaks, and I know that it isn't currently possible without the Froyonate's source code. Is it possible to use the Galaxy S's voodoo froyo kernel for the Fascinate? If so, what can I do to make it happen? Thanks in advance...

For general information about what the linux kernel is/does do some google searches. The kernels across different galaxy S devices are NOT interchangeable. We currently do not have source for froyo on the fascinate. Due to the nature of how the modifications work, voodoo lagfix was added to the kernel without needing to recompile form source, however voodoo sound fixes must be applied to source, rather than an already compiled kernel. Samsung will not release the source until at the very least, an official froyo is released. I suspect you might get some angry replies for posting this question. This is essentially because unless you're a competent linux hacker, the only thing you can do is wait patiently, even once the source is released.
This belongs in general. You should really use the search function.

Ok, I think that thr kernel is the core of the android operating system, where the drivers for the different hardware of your phone resides and the rom is the actual operating system, the kernel must be compatible to your phone otherwise it will not work. Many roms that you see posted here include kernels, the ones that dont you have to be carefull because if you have for example a non vodoo kernel and install a vodoo rom you will have serious problems, im no expert but maybe somebody more knowledgeable can correct me

Voodoo is part of the kernel, not the rom. If you see a rom that is advertised as a Voodoo rom, it's because it comes with a Voodoo kernel. Installing a Voodoo rom and/or kernel won't cause any harm, but if you have the Voodoo lag fix installed and flash a non-Voodoo kernel, or a rom that contains a non-Voodoo kernel, you will get to learn how to use Odin very quickly. It's always a good idea to learn whether or not the rom you are flashing contains a kernel or not, just so that you don't get surprised by something after the fact.
