did you try and flash a VERIZON fascinate rom on your TELUS fascinate?

I found that when I put my phone int FC loops, I could usually get into recovery mode with ' adb reboot recovery' from the command line.
More typically, you would power on while holding volume up and down, the three button press recovery.
If you don't know what ADB is:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=ADB
PS, if you still can't get into recovery, I'll keep spewing out ideas until you are fixed. I would not recommend flashing in Odin unless you can find a reputable telus specific Fascinate rom that matches your phone.

Egads, to reiterate, you have a soft brick now, do NOT go flashing over things in Odin without a way back to what you have now.

Youre **** outta luck bud. I did the same thing. I tried every button combo imaginable to get back into Recovery. No dice. Even soldered a USB Jig and that didn't kick me into recovery either. Not even using ADB to force a boot into Recovery worked.
I had to call Telus to get a return done. They sent me a new phone on Friday and just received the new one this afternoon.
And for the record, the Verizon Fascinate is NOT the same as the Telus Fascinate. The Verizon Fascinate is a CDMA phone. The firmware doesn't work properly on the 3G+ model Telus offers.

But is there any good reason why the 3button press recovery shouldn't work? This type of situation is the whole reason it exists! Maybe Telus uses a different combo like vol-, home, power, instead of vol+-, power like verizon fascinates do.

New phone after flash gone wrong.
Thanks for the great answers on the question about my flashing gone wrong!! I couldn't get the phone to change after the flash. It was coming up with a warning about the phone over heating. So I think something hardware might have caused this in the first place. I have a new phone and ready to root and theme. No more rom changes after this happening. I will stick to themes and rooted programs for now until a custom telus rom comes out.
Thanks again for the help and this chat can be closed

I think the 3-button combo doesn't work because the button mappings are changed with the wrong kernel flashed. When I flashed the Verizon ROM/kernel, my Vol Up button became Volume Down but my Volume Down was not functional at all.

I've been meaning to ask. How do people get those slick looking Themes on their phones. Are there any in the Market Place? Or do people create those themselves by editing icons and stuff?

AND LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837530
Now, after I couldn't find it for the life of me for 3 fricken days, I stumble on a dump of the Telus ROM.

I'm working on porting an existing one to my phone. I'm close to finished and just trying to work out a few issues (i.e. the GPS, the FM Radio, etc).

I just ported cyanogen. It was easy.
It's very beta though. VERY beta.
Currently the home button doesnt work. <_<
Everything else seems to work well. Quadrant scores went up, and no pseudo lag fix either
PM me if you want more info.

Sprint Hero rooted, now what?

Sorry if there is a list or thread about this already. I am pretty new to the Android OS and I'm wondering what's the next thing to try with this phone.. I have rooted the phone (tested with screen print utility), now I'm just wondering what else I can do with this rooted beast.

Well, did you flash a recovery image?
I am going to bit the bait...First of all I know nothing about android, what a recovery image is or for, or such.
Anyways, I followed directions, and believe I have flashed a recovery...how can I tell? this is what I followed.

Well, if you didnt receive any errors then just type in reboot recovery in adb shell or shut the phone off and then hold in the home button and the power button. The phone should reboot with the htc logo and then it will load recovery. Once in recovery you can do a nandroid backup which will create a complete image of the phone. This is good in case anything goes wrong with any future changes. You can also partition the sd card to prepare it for apps2sd. And finally when roms are created you can flash the new roms with the recovery image.

Thor, there's a number of threads that talk about rooting now.
There's a step by step guide in this forum, and in the android development section of the hero area on the forums there's another that talks about the "one click" method that's been setup for us (flashrec). If you go to theunlockr.com ( http://theunlockr.com/2009/11/07/how-to-root-your-cdma-htc-hero-sprint-verizon/ ) and follow instructions there, it will also walk you through it.
It can take a moment but taking the time to do a bunch of research and looking around at both the past GSM hero rooting as well as the new CDMA rooting will ultimately answer a lot of questions that might otherwise come up.
I'm assuming wifi tethering does not yet work on the rooted CDMA Hero.

I think there is an app for changing led colors. As for new roms, I am working on one. I am brand new to rom development so I may be quitting that side of things soon but we will have to see. I am basically just trying to merge the CDMA parts of our hero with Modaco's GSM hero rom. If I can do that then maybe I can port other things. Like I said, we'll see.
yea i just rooted my hero im still trying to get app2sd to work do you happen to know what app it is?
can someone see if the setcpu or overclock widget works?
yea they work as far as i know i downloaded them and it all works so yea

Rooting isn't hard at all. You should go ahead & root now
+1 on the root now. While your at it install a custom rom and you will love your phone. Odds are you can get the Froyo update right here before it hits OTA anyways.
Yeah I've rooted my vibrant before I had to get a new one. It is easy but I would probably have to un root it to update right?
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
I don't understand what waiting would do. What you should NOT do is get the Froyo update from T-Mobile, as there is a chance that they will push an update that breaks your ability to root with 2.2 and you will have to wait even longer.
I recommended you root now, install Rom Manager, go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813001
Download Fusion 1.1 to your SDCARD (I have a folder called ROMS) and go to Clockwork, reboot into Recovery, Reinstall Packages, Install ZIP from SDCARD, choose Bionix 1.1, wait, and then see what that phone is really capable of.
Using Fusion 1.1 makes me not mind waiting for Froyo.
Yeah you are right it's just I haven't got to comfortable w/ flashing roms just yet. Looks a bit hard I guess I will just keep watching the videos on it till I feel like I can do it
Sent from my vibrant while I'm working. I love my job
Flashing roms is super easy as long as you're using ones flashable through rom manager. I must warn you it's very addictive. The only thing I would say is make your you backup in case something goes wrong and avoid Voodoo until you've flashed a few times and feel more comfortable. Great thing is there is tons of support here. I suggest you try Bionix Final.
Well guys I'm pretty convinced I think im going to do it I'm going to look into it thanx alot for your input

Dooo eeet!
Yes, it's daunting at first to flash a new ROM, but I just did it for the first time a few weeks ago and it was simple and easy. Just read up as much as you can and then write up a "roadmap" on all the steps you need to take, before, during, and after. It removed a lot of headaches for me because I planned it all out and had all the software ready in case anything went wrong (Odin, stock ROM, etc.). If there are any gaps in your understanding or questions about a process, ask them here before you flash!
I would root it and load a custom ROM, waiting for official OTA update to Froyo is like playing a Russian roulette now. Look what a simple update that was suppsoed to address GPS and other issues did to your fellow TMO users.
As always, there will be people who wouldn't even know that you can root the device to make it your own, so they will always run stock, and complain to TMO when they click MobiTV app and never use it, but have to cough up 10 bucks a month for it (it is just an example).
If you came here you know that you can do something to your phone besides waiting for Froyo, take a full advantage of what is offered in the dev section, and don't forget to support the developers if you like the work they do
Ok I'm reading the thread you posted how do I preform nandroid back up?

If you are going to root, you might as well just do it.
Froyo could easily be 2-3 months down the road yet.
you need ROM manager...
it took me forever to find a how-to on this exact thing.
You have to be rooted in order to accomplish this:
1. root (obviously)
2. download ROM manager
3. open ROM manager and click on 'Flash ClockworkMod Recovery' and pick your phone.
4. click 'Backup Current ROM'
5. Let it do it's thing... it's going to reboot and run in recovery then reboot again.
6. You are done!!
To recover, you have to boot into clockwork recovery and click restore then pick the date file you made to recover to that date!
** If any of this is wrong, please call me out!!
Yeah, I started doing all this before I even discovered ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery. Those tools definitely make everything so much easier.
Make sure you have the following software tools:
ADB
Odin
Rom Manager (w/ ClockworkMod Recovery installed)
Titanium Backup
Also, make sure your phone is not hardware locked before you begin. Try the standard procedure to enter Recovery Mode; if your phone is hardware locked, run the flashable fix (found in the dev forum) so that you have some way of recovering from a soft brick.
From my experiences, rooting has always been the fastest way to get updates. Those rollouts take forever.

lol. i was waiting for a froyo release, i flashed my g1 a bunch so flashing wasn't a big deal, but i was happy with the phone stock for a bit and didn't mind waiting. but i rooted after a week. was flashing smaller things like ji2 gps, getting rid of bloatware, changing bootup/shutdown, etc. a couple weeks later. and a couple weeks after that i started flashing roms.
moral of the story? just root and start flashing now, it's a long wait.

Telus Fascinate Clockwork plz help

Okay, for months now, ive gone through 2 phones and done more bricking then flashing I have done lots and lots of reserach and am getting to the point where i just want to stay stock. Im rooted, and every time i try to flash clockwork through odin i either get a fail, or if i keep trying sometimes it goes through and says pass but it gets stuck on a force start loop and i cant do anything in recovery menu...so i end up fash stock files for telus to return the phone to its new state. I really want to get clockwork on here and try some roms. If anyone could help it would be awesome.
Thanks, Mike.

I can boot into clockwork,,,, just when i reboot from there it gets stuck, why would this be happening. Maybe i didnt have the correct rom on it.?
You might have to start over but not with odin if you have a rom on your sdcard or if you download one to it. what rom are you on and kernel? And have you flashed something that migt have caused it?

This happened to me too, I was only able to get to the boot screen and it would freeze, and it would only let me get into clock work mod, make sure you have a rom in the root of your SD and flash the rom in clock work mod, the new rom should boot up.

if you have a fairly recent cmw backup and you are on cmw 3.1.0.1 (purple if I got the ver. # wrong) try advanced restore, and just restore the one at the top of the list. Worked for me when I flashed a bad kernel. Good luck!
It'd be nice if you were more specific on what you did before you screwed your phone up so we wouldn't have 10 plus people figuring out basic crap smh. -_-
Quit being such a noon. If you had the smarts to flash a rom....then figure it out. I've made the same mistakes. Better make sure the rom is actually for your phone......noob.
Make sure you have the right kernel for your rom. Most of the times when you get stuck at the samsung logo is because you don't have the right kernel.

Double check your ROM. Make sure that it includes a kernel, made for your phone, and isn't some highly experimental thing ROM that may or may not work.

Can the Sprint Samsung Epic 4g on gingerbread 2.3.6 be rooted?
Hello to anyone who knows about rooting. I work in medicne so I can figure out anything with the human body but not with rooting my Samsung epic on gingerbread 2.3.6. I have tried different developers, different sites, and read till I went crazy. The lingo gets old. It would be like me talking to the common public about the interpetation of hemodynamic readings and congestive heart failure. Anyhow, I rooted my epic 4g before it automatically upgraded to gingerbread...then it froze...I researched and unbricked it with a program everyone said did not work...but it worked to unbrick my phone even though it was supposed to root my phone...it just reset it to where it was usable again. When I try to go to certain websites for rooting files to download...they seem to be missing...hmmmm. So again, can the samsung epic 4g on gingerbread 2.3.6 be rooted? If it can, please direct me to some site...so far...I have tried about 5 different sites...no luck. It is also very hard to find anything specific on gingerbread 2.3.6 on rooting...alot of info. on the other versions.

there is a thread that tells you a 3 step method. if you wanna flash another rom then here is what I did. Download the rom you want and put on the sd card. download odin if you do not already have it. download cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5. open odin uncheck every thing even reboot. then click pda put the cwm.tar into the pda. make sure your phone is in download mode. by holding the #1 button on the keyboard and the power button. plug the phone in to the usb. a yellow com box should pop up. hit start it shouldn't take long but it will complete and the phone will still be on. unplug your phone and take the battery out. put the battery back and turn on using the 3 finger method. ( vol. down, camera and power button) then wipe data, wipe cache, go into advance and wipe dalvik. press the back button click then click install zip from sdcard. click choose zip from sd card and then choose your rom and install that should be all. if you want to stay stock and just be rooted you need to download superuser.zip the link is found in the first video. you do the first part the same but instead of wiping every thing you go start into install zip and then choose the super user zip. reboot your system. then you have to go into the root explorer and delete a file but I cant remember the file name. but then you turn your phone off and then you have to odin cwm again. then you will be rooted. i will edit this when i can remember the file name unless some one beats me to the punch. i hope this helps if not pm me and i will try to help i am going to be flashing back to stock and re rooting to day so..
Thanks...I will try it again.

I never deleted that file. I just odin'd cwm5 with reboot unchecked, then unplugged cable, poppef battery out and in and flashed a ROM. That file install-recovery.sh is still on my phone and in the directory you specified.

You don't need to unless you plan on staying stock. Otherwise just flash clockwork mod boot into it and flash a custom rom.

The phone will remain stock or I would just flash fc09 deoxed. It's for my wife I might in the future upgrade her but this is her first android so I'm trying to go slow with it and not barrage her with too many changes.
