my keyboard is turning brown were the bumpers from the screen rest. If you lift up your screen you'll see a bumper on each end that rest on each end of the keyboard. I was looking at the tmo forums and noticed a thread on it. Mine isn't near as bad as other. Some look almost burnt in and some peoples whole phones were changing color were the soft plastic is. I just put a small piece of electrical tape over the bumpers so it doesn't get worse cus its not bad now.
I haven't noticed that but am getting some discoloration on the backhousing below the battery door. I added the tmobile gel skin to help protect it somewhat. So far it has helped...
It seems that the paint could have been given an extra coat or two, or clearcoat. I have heard of many folks complaining about the paint on the keyboard edges becoming premature worn out. The gel case has some clips around that area and might help with the wear. Might be worth the $10 investment. Really wish the otterbox for the G2 would come out already...
Ya I'm thinkin about getting some ghost armor. A lot of people on the tmo forums were actually haveing the discoloration exactly were u r. The stains from the bumpers on my keyboard is weird I wonder if its the chemicals they used to make the bumpers and the soft material that the bumpers rest on. Some peoples phones look like the bumpers actually burned an imprint on the keyboard. Apparently someone talked to an htc rep and he said it has to do with the magnets used in the phone causing the discoloration. Some people are sayin they're whole phone were the soft parts are turned green or a dingy brownish color.
Yeah!! I got that brown stuff on my keyboard too.
Oh wait... no. It's chocolate... nevermind. ◔‿◔
I just checked and so far I dont see any discoloring. Im going to keep an eye out for this.
Ive got a tiny bit of yellow where the bumpers rest.. nothing major, but its barely 2 weeks old

I posted a while ago about this with no response. I'd really appreciate some kind of input or advice or anything.
There are those of us who don't like screen protectors on our imates. Of course, after a year, this leads to those little, annoying scratches that seem to magically appear. There's stuff on the market to rub these out; one such product is Displex. I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with these products or any other methods of removing these tiny scratches.
If you haven't had a response in a year, I'd imagine that is because most people like the anti-glare and improved writing surface that a screen protector offers <shrug>
I know those scratches you're talking about but the first thing I do is to get a film for my new device to keep up the resale value.
I know this is a personal preference, but what do you have against films? I can't actually think of a downside to them apart from the first two attempts where you get dust under them and it annoys you for a week before you calm down enough to try it again =)
Maybe you could try one of these polishes and tell us how good they are, after all this information seems to be somewhat lacking ... ?
Amen to that. Actually the good brands (though a bit more expensive) of screen protectors are so easy to apply. I bought a couple of the ultra clear ones from Brando and i'm still on my first for close to a year now. Every now and then I clean the film with rubbing alcohol.
Since I own a few Swatch watches and most of them have already scratched plastic faces, I bought the little tube of scratch remover. It gets the job done but a lot of pressure is required especially if the scratch is very deep. Since my hands got very tired, I then used a Dremel. Word of advise, don't set the Dremel at a high speed because it will melt the plastic.
I don't know if the Magician's screen has some sort of anti-glare coating. When I tried to remove the scratches on my older pair of eye glasses, the anti-glare coating was taken off wether rubbing it manually or using the Dremel.
i've had only bad experiences with screen protectors. I guess that's what i get for being a cheap ass. Plus the jam is my first pda, so i never really realized how much of a problem those scratches really are.
I suppose the solution is to try the Displex screen scratch remover and then slap on a Writeshield AG. Thanks anyway.
I suggest you try first a very small area in a corner of the screen just in case the scratch remover will a a greater damage.
Good luck. Hope you do get your screen as good as new.

Absolutely. I once used scratch remover on my old XDA (Wallaby) and found it to be efective in removing the scratches. Problem - in the area where i removed the scratches the display was compromised - it looked like a prisma of kinds, kinda like when you little drops of liquid on an cathode ray tv - you could see little bits of red green and blue.
I think some kind of layer was removed causing this. So really try it on a corner before you go for the entire screen.
And another word, if you are not familiar with using a Dremel, NEVER use it for cleaning or polishing of plexiglass. I ruined a swatch with that. Used it even at a low speed, but the polishing wheel made the plexi so hot the watchglass actually looked like a bumpy road. Had it professionally repolished at a jewelers place, but by doing this the plexi had got so thin that i broke after a while...
Dremel and plexi - no good in my opinion.
i have a few scratches that came with my magician (i didnt pay a cent for the scratches ). let us know how you go.
BTW, has any one used car polisher for such a task? I heard (not sure how correct/accurate), that its possible to remove small scratchs from cds wih car polisher? I wonder if it works for lcds.
now how is man enough to try it out in there magicians hay
i though i would share my thoughts on this case cover that i just bought. cost less than 5 bucks shipped from hong kong shipped (sambo-store). got it in 8 days from the time i ordered it.
fit was nice, not loose and easy to clip on. i was a bit concerned when i bought this because of the cross bar. i though it would interfere with the soft keys but to my suprise it really didnt. i press the soft keys anyways with the nail on my thumb so its no bother. if you use just the flesh of your thumb, then it will interfere. there is another case cover that you can buy without the cross bar. i bought one of those too but havent got it yet. i bought the case cover without the cross bar from a california company (ebay), for less than 8 bucks shipped and w/ california taxes. right now im happy with the cover i got on know and if for some reason it brakes, i got a spare.
even though the ad didnt say it, the case has a rubber coating on it that makes it feel grippy. also, the case does not add a lot of bulk to the phone.
my phone, x1a silver, and does not have any cracks. i can see that this case, nicely fit, can protect the phone and maybe prevent cracks. i say this because the case covers the area prone to cracking. i can see how phones may crack near the area of the battery cover because of the way the plastic angles to a thin point. i can imagine this area getting caught on the fabric of the pants or coat pocket and maybe causing the cracks. also maybe it can protect the area by the stylus by the way it kind of adds additional support around the area. it though may not help if you kind of stress the area if you happen to reinsert your stylus in a wrong manner.
if you have cracks in your phone already and tired of shipping or dont want to ship your phone back for repairs, then this case would pretty much cover the cracks. either that, get your phone repaired and then try one of these cases.
as for durability, i read that these cases break easily. i can see some truth to it becasue just by feeling around the case, i can feel and see how the edge of the case could get caught on something and would tend to pull the top cover and snap the little flimsy clips that holds it to the phone.
as mentioned, i have an x1a silver and the black case really acents the phone nicely. also, if wanted a black x1 but for some reason or another you got a silver one, putting this black case on pretty much makes it look like a black x1. most of the silver is covered and the chrome trimming is what is mostly showing.
the picture below is the type of cover that i bought even though it was from that paticular vendor. i just use the photo because it mostly matches what my phone looks like with the black case on. heck for 5 bucks, what have i got to lose.

i have the same case.. but that case cracked relatively easy.. so i bought another one. it's the same kind but it's transparent. the material for the transparent ones are different in the sense that it's stronger and i must say it looks better too. it reveals a lot of the x1a's shine.
Do you black/graphite owners wish you had the white Hero and vice versa?
I kind of wish Orange did the white version, I think they look better, even if they are less practical and hard-wearing. Anyone wanna swap? Haha.
I think the white looks fantastic. Black is kinda old school IMO (how many black gadgets have you had?) but it's entirely subjective.
White for sure! I had real reservations when I ordered the white Hero, after years of black HTC devices.... but I love it. It's s refreshing change
White
Is there another color besides white?
Kidding...WHITE is the color!
I have less than zero desire for a white device!
Regards,
Dave
I've had the white and was forever making sure it was clean!! Not putting it in leather cases as the leather marks the white, giving it a rub after using/pulling out of pocket. This is a phone! I took more care of it than my girlfriend!
Had to sell it as when it did get dirty it looked old and tatty, so went and got a black one which to me looks sleek and cool.
Can't remember how many times I got called a fairy for having a white phone?!?
White! Ive had no probs with dirt on it. And yesterday I putted it in a clear gel case, so no problems
i love the graphite one!!!! the white one is cool, too, but i prefer the graphite
I had the graphite first off then I returned it and got the white one and I can say I definetly prefer white. Generally in my experience others also prefer it. It does get dirty easily and quite often but I still wouldn't swap with black or graphite.
I have a white Hero , simply love it. I had the opportunity to swap it for a black one when i had led problems but in my opinion, the black colour and the white trackball don't match well.
Graphite all the way, pukka it is toooo
Black one all the way! That said I havent seen any other colours in the flesh
white?
Hi to all
I will definitelly buy a Hero in comming days, but i am quite torn apart about the color.
I definitelly like white more than black, but all some of your experiences are really scary. I want to take care of the phone of course, but taking care of the colorations/smudges every day (?) is too much to it. I want to play with software, not hardware
What about you, hero white owners, is it really so bad?
One day I noticed my white one had picked up some grease and ink smudges on the back. (I work in a greasy, inky environment!) I figured I'd have to clean it with Cif or something. The next day I went to do so and as I pulled it out my pocket, I noticed all the dirt was gone!
I think the Teflon makes it that bit easier for dirt to just rub off onto fabric. Plus it feels and looks great.
The aesthetics really are personal though, of course.

You were planning to clean with cif????????
I guess you're joking right? cause these chemicals might peel off the teflon layer. Especially something like cif.
A homopolymer like Teflon wont have any problem with nonionic surfactants. The Teflon is bonded well too so any harsh solutes should have little effect. I've known people to use Cif cream on the Hero with good effect.
If you do have your doubts though, don't take my word for it
is the graphite the same loike the brown one? i got the brown and love it

Have you ever used Cif before? It cleans almost anything and its not going to take off a bonded layer such as Teflon. You can use it on tiles, worktops or anything, but it doesn't take the waterproofing off.
A light amount of cif on kitchen roll and wipe the casing worked fine on my white one. I had a curry stain on it, yes! curry!!! The strength of the curry was more likely to take off the coating than the Cif!
Teflon has some applications in chemistry due to it's resilience to corrosion. It completely resists the corrosive effect of hydroflouric acid, which even dissolves glass. Cif is no match for Teflon.
Also, "PTFE's resistance to van der Waals forces means that it is the only known surface to which a gecko cannot stick". This is very reassuring for people who have phobias of lizards.

of course i've used cif. who hasnt?
well i was shocked because last week i cleaned my phone with alcohol and i immediately noticed that the metal grey rim around the screen and the hardware buttons got white patches. Some sort of chemical reaction with the alcohol , i dont know.
I also thought cif might remove the htc logo on the back and the label autofocus 5.0 mp bla bla bla ...
Anyway, good to know it worked out . i guess i know what to do next time i have stains on it.
So I was surfing on ebay for a rugged case for my n4
I ran by this...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Triple-Armo...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item5d43674502
It seems like a ballistic sg knock off but at a lower price
comes with screen protectors too if that matters for anyone...
Does ANYONE have any experience with this case? If so, please let us know!
Otherwise I'm going to order a Ballistic SG this week.....

I would order that ebay one instead of the SG.
I had the SG and it wasn't worth the money. The problem with it is that the silicone isn't a perfect fit so the nexus 4 slides up and down a bit. The plastic piece that goes over the inner silicone cover occasionally comes undone a bit (it's hard to describe exactly) which leads to more sliding of the nexus. The plastic piece doesn't stay on as well as I'd hoped because the silicon is too soft to let it really clamp on well.
That ebay one is much cheaper and appears to be basically the same.
The case I have now and would really recommend is the mybatt. In addition to a back plastic clamp on piece, it also has a front screen side snap on piece so its inner silicon layer is sandwiched securely. I haven't had any sliding issues like I did with the Ballistic. Here's a review someone did on the mybatt: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120148
It does come in a couple different colors. I have the all black one because I thought the white might get stained with dirt.

Thanks for your opinion!
I went ahead and bought it on Amazon through a third party for almost $6! (CHEAP price IMO) Ebay had it for 9 bucks :victory:
I read some reviews of it. It seems like people had a mix problem with the sensor cut out. Do you have any problems of your own or any cons you want to bring up?

I personally didn't have that problem. It seems to have mainly been on the first few versions of it that came out. People didn't mention that issue as much after it had been out for awhile. I just got mine about a month and it's been fine.

My case doesn't have this problem either so if anyone is interested in getting the Mybat Tuff Case & doesn't mind the bulk. I highly recommend it!:good:
My ballistic case fits perfectly without problem but hey that one is cheaper
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I have the Ballistic case and it fits good. Mine doesnt slide around in the rubber part and Ive never had the plastic cover fall off.
I do wish Gumdrop made a N4 case though.
I hope everyone gets to each and every feature of this beast to make themselves proud to own when this comes out in March
It has double tap to wake up
Front-facing stereo speakers is a great feature to me.
It's not "delightful" but It's a discovery nonetheless:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3t7kaC6Gx8s
Anyway, this is a minor issue for me because:
a. I'll much more likely end up with the black or even purple version than the white one.
b. I don't think that there are many people which would use this piece of jewel without any kind of case or extra protection.
A minor detail really but maybe worth considering, especially by white color fans

I agree very minor, all mobiles WITHOUT protection will wear , stain or have damage, what's new , I've pre-ordered Black version anyway
Perhaps I should complain about my leather wallet that has many wear marks & has become discoloured , there are many other examples of things we keep in our pockets of varying value that become discoloured, stained, marked or worn.
When aluminium gets marked, that's it, it's marked forever.....so perhaps Sony should not have framed the xperia in aluminium....
I have preordered the white one, but yeah I hope case will fix the issue. I like the black one also to, but it seems to get very greasy and alot of fingerprints all over.
I kind like these cases: http://www.xperiaguide.com/2014/02/25/xperia-z2-style-cover-stand-scr10/scr10-xperia-z2-case/

Yeah really like those cases.
A delightful discovery that I found out a couple of days ago is that the Xperia Z2 phone & tablet will NOT be using the Anti-shatter film on them :highfive: Thank goodness they got rid of that :victory:

Yeah I know, its great, I didnt buy the Z1 because of the shatter film. So that is fantastic.

The rounded edges are now seamlessly round and not angular like the Z1. This should make it even nicer to hold. They also changed the places with coloring. Now there are no shiny surfaces facing the viewer which is nice. Addition of gestures for muting calls and callin etc. is also very nice.
I remember when the iphone 4 came out all glass front and back. Thought that was the dumbest idea ever for a cellphone. I've always been one to put a case usually speck hard candy on my devices for that drop protection and especially would so with this device being all glass back and front. Never understood the big deal on what "color" device to get since once you have a case on your phone you don't see the "color" of the phone anymore? I guess maybe the plastic injected molding color might still be visible, idk?

Having had the SGS3 for quite a while now, a couple of days after getting the phone I received a cover for it in the mail and it hasn't come off since. The thing is, with the SGS3, I thought it was required since the polycarbonate would get blasted pretty fast. I think with the couple of days it already got some light scratches. Now with the Z2, I can get a screen protector for both sides and not worry about it. This is by no means a cheap purchase for me and I want to keep it for many years to come but I think the screen/glass protectors will suffice. I never drop my phones and the Z1 has proven to do well in drop tests. If it breaks, I got insurance to cover it. I will opt for the purple one and really want to enjoy it in all of its glory. Are you really buying a device this sexy just to cover it up?
Other option would be to get a little rim bumber protector for it. Definitely more protection and glass off the grass, without sacrificing much of the looks. Some may even prefer it with one on.

I'm kind of people that carry my phone in my pants pocket, and when I do that with my SGS4, it's already got scratch in the back cover in a few days.3 pr 4 days I didn't know, when I look, it's already there.
and also use transparent cover will still show the sexy part of the phone
