Spell check on email - Vibrant General

How is it even possible for Google to skip such a feature. I've been stuck here for an hour trying to find a spell checking email program for android. I can't send professional emails without it.
Anyone have any ideas on what I could do to spell check my emails before sending. Proofreading takes too much time. I don't care if it fixes a word incorrectly, that's not as professionally embarrassing as a misspelled email, I can always blame on the spell checker. Every blackberry does this, so does the iPhone even Nokia has a spell checking email client wtf. Oh and forgive me for my spelling mistakes since you know, I don't have a spell checker installed. I am running froyo on the vibrant.

Shouldn't your keyboard be doing a spell check?

that aids on your typing but if you really misspell something, you'll have no idea that you misspelled something until you get a rejection letter from your would be employer. Some of us are too busy typing to look at what we type... thats why we spell check afterwards.
The spell checker app really sucks compared to the blackberry email client. "The reapply from the staff..." was perfectly ok to it, I just wish there was someway to integrate spell checking to gmail.

Proof reading before hitting the send button might just work... but that's just me.
If the blackberry way is to type, spell check and send, then have your boss do the proof reading for you, well what the hell fell free to keep doing so.....

Why are you guys being so critical?
He's asking if anyone knows of any app that spell checks for you. No need to get so offensive to the point of scaring him off.
The keyboard spell checker may be enough for you but not for the OP.

App Password Option

I often grow tired of people grabbing my phone and being able to click on the gmail icon and immediately having access to my email. This got me thinking that the OS should have a password/pin option. Basically giving the ability to set a password/pin for any app on the system. Is there something that does this already? Sorry if I've posted in the wrong section.
Why not just use a lock screen pass? Would be a cool feature though.
Hard to show off the awesomeness of the Evo to people if they can only see the lock screen. This would be neat for the gallery as well to lock it up (I currently use PhotoVault). Maybe i'm too much into privacy, I don't know...

Sounds like you have a porn problem.
Haha, that's not the issue (at least not yet). I just want to be able to know my emails are safe and secure, handing your phone over to someone is like letting them use your computer with your email already pulled up and your password entered.

[Q] MySpace Login Fails everytime?

Hey, so I can't seem to find an answer yet so I figured I'd just start a thread a pose the question.....
Since I've gotten my Epic I haven't been able to use the phones native myspace log in. It always tell me login failed try later. I tried it on stock and a number of custom roms and it all says the same thing. If I use the actual MySpace app everything connects just fine, I would just like to have that feature functioning too. Not a dealbreaker by any means, just a little annoying thats all.
If anyone can give me some advice as to potential fixes or if that's just something that hasn't worked at all, it would be appreciated.
Wow people, no responses? Am I the only one that has this problem or something?
Who even goes on myspace anymore? Lol

Yeah, I'm afraid myspace is dead...

still searching for an answer.....
Okay, so, while this is by no means a deal breaker nor am I going to have a fit if it doesn't work, giving me answers like "why does it matter myspace is dead" isn't exactly the most constructive way to address my situation. Like my momma used to say, if you don't have something good to say....you know the rest.
Anyway, I'm still actively looking for a solution to this. I called up Sprint (should've known better but I did anyway) and that got me no where. I fired off a message to MySpace support today so I guess they have up to 48 hours to respond according to their little blurb after you send a message.
If anyone has any CONSTRUCTIVE tips, I would greatly appreciate any feedback. I would like to have all the features on my phone working (I mean hell, why not?), and just cuz MySpace is dead for some, doesn't mean it's not still a viable network for others.
PS: That whole proxy settings thing someone suggested earlier....never found anything about that, don't know if that was a smoke screen or not but if not can you elaborate and possibly show me where you got that idea from?

Facebook notifications

When I first got my Evo, the notifications worked. Now they don't. I came from a bb and when I heard the facebook app got reworked it made it a little easier to make the switch. Now I am not a facebook crazy teenager, I am in the military and I use it to talk to friends over seas. Sometimes the notifications can mean if I get to talk to a good friend or not . Is this a facebook issue or an Evo thing. What's weird is that my wife has an Evo too and it works for her phone. But I seem to read that it conflicts with sense. Is this a myth, or is there some fact behind this. As I am typing this I am running CM7, if that makes a difference.

Facebook notifications = epic fail... sometimes they work... most of the time they don't. Blame facebook..
Facebook = Epic Fail
Facebook for android in itself is worthless. The notifications work every now and then but they still havent added real notifications for things like comments and likes.
They've never worked for me, but I have facebook setup to send me email for the notifications I want... and my Evo gets those emails instantly. Seems like a good solution.. works great for me, anyway.
What he said^ f#%* the notification, just wait for the email. :/
Swyped from my sexy EVO.
If you really need notifications, I suggest using Flow from the market.

Thx guys. I appreciate the replies. There is always the chance a post like this turns into instant flaming, but I am glad that didn't happen. Thx for the insight. I just wanted to make sure that there want something I couldn't do as far as the setup side of the app that I was perhaps missing. Thx again.

U can also have the notifications sent to u as text. Works the same for me.
I used to use a beta of bloo when I had the Moment. But that was hit or miss as well. But at that time it was way better than the facebook app that was available.

Flow is way better IMO especially since you can set it up now for push notifications.
Going to check out Flow. I wonder why Facebook just doesn't utilize this as notifications without getting Gmail notifications all the time.
Check out my black social apps. The notifications work at times but at least the colors and icons look good
Ok...I am looking at how to set this up, and unless I am reading this wrong, isn't my inbox going to get flooded with facebook emails? Right now I have them archived, and for that specific reason.

ud get the same thing if u were getting notifications from the facebook app itself just not in email or by text. plus u can choose what u want to get. i only get when someone writes on my wall, sends a message, comments on a photo, or comments on a status i put out there and i use facebook alot and dont get a ton of texts. alot of the time it stays in the same thread for my text
This is partially true. For Flow to work the email has to be sent to the inbox. For the facebook app, I can have them archived and still get the notification.

Replacement keyboard app found!

For those of you who are having issues with the stock keyboard and it's lag and lack of arrows, have I found a deal for you!
Head to the market and download "Hacker's Keyboard".
Its free and adds a much quicker experience, a dedicated number row, and arrow keys. It does have a bit of a smaller layout to fit all the new keys, but it is leaps and bounds above the stock.
If anyone else has any other alternatives too, i'd love to check them out, this is just what ive found.

giving it a shot now. Only drawback seen so far is lack of localization - EN-US only currently. Since that's what I use I'll gladly give up some key spacing for ARROW KEYS!!!

But, why does the system warn you that "Hacker's Keyboard" want access to everything including your 1st born.

A little suspicious, or is this normal?
Permissions..?
Alot of apps seem to do that...I don't pretend to understand all the nuances of it all...but I can say that I have found zero issues with it as of yet.

If you think about it, a keyboard program needs to watch which keys the user presses and needs to relay that to the operating system. So of course it can and has to read everything you type, including credit card numbers and passwords. You won't find any keyboard that doesn't come with this warning.
Ah, thats much better..........ARROW KEYS.......wonderful
This keybaord (hacker keyboard) is the best...thing...ever!!!
A little scary when android warned me that this thing has acces to my passwords.
It is so damn fast!

Makes sense.
But, how can we be sure that this is not a rouge program that is 'calling home' with all your keystrokes?

Well first, I think it has nothing to do with cosmetics at all. But, when you install it, did it ask for Internet permission? If not, then there's probably nothing to worry about. The only permissions it asks for is to read user defined dictionary (for autocomplete), read contact data (for autocomplete) and record audio (for voice input.) Nothing nefarious at all.
The password warning is a stock warning that Android puts on all keyboards.
I was impressed with the speed myself..that's why I decided to share it with the rest of the group

Good call/text blocking program for Gingerbread

I'm running Android 2.3.4 or gingerbread whatever.. I used to use a app called "Blacklist", it would send unk number's or any number not in my contacts directly to voicemail with no notifications... samething with text. It isn't compatible with gingerbread for reason's unkown.. is anyone using this version of android and have a program that is similar/compatible? Thanks in advance
ChompSMS, Handcent, GoSMS all have blacklisting for text. Not sure about calling.
Thanks, I know Chomp, Handcent etc.. are text apps though... I need something to block random #s from texting me... Kinda like when you're married but give your number to a girl, she calls you, you guys hook and she keeps bugging you type of blocking text

If you get the number they are calling you from you can file a formal complaint which will get the harassing companies fined for their actions. I once caused a 10,000 USD fine to fall upon Dish Network for their actions .

Try the app I mentioned. The reason is, it rejects calls and you can control how it proceeds. It can send the calls to VM or block completely.
And I have GV as well, that is the # I basically use for unwanted calls.
Blacklist by Ming software does both call and and blocking. Works great.
