How are you planning to update it? Never had a problem with flashing a rooted phone, have had problems flashing the phone with an enabled lagfix. My general rule before I update is to backup anything important, disable any lagfixes, factory reset then flash. There's loads of guides on here by much more knowledgable people then myself, my advice is to read them and follow their advice by the letter
Hi, I rooted my phone a week ago and that is all I have done. Kies told me there was update and away I went. Installed with no problems!
Isn't ignorance bliss!!!
Ken
I would say unroot and uninstall any lag fix you may have installed.
Easier than that though, just factory reset everything in recovery mode, and just update to 2.2.
If you get lag at the Galaxy S startup screen, take out the battery and perform another factory reset (obviously after you install 2.2), that did the trick for me.
I recommend you install jm8 then install darkys 4.1 froyo rom. Its the most stable froyo rom I have found

Hey guys,
I have really been reading and learning alot since rooting my phone and flashing the MoDaCo rom. Im tempted to go back to RUU get the update and try to root again but I think its smarter for me to just wait on a updated MoDaCo ROM with the update in it. But I have a couple questions I hope someone can answer just in general.
1. Would going back to RUU to get the update, re-rooting and re-flashing MoDaCo hurt my app2SD that is already set up? Meaning I would have to re format the SD and apply all my apps back after im done.
2. Is it possible to go back to RUU, get the update, re-root and re-flash the MoDaCo ROM and not have any issues afterwards, and still have the update?
3. Whats the major benefit of updating at all. I mean after root and MoDaCo ROM, im having no issues with my phone whatsoever. But seems like everyone is updating so am I missing something key that my hero needs to have?
Thanks in advance for any answers. Im loving this android stuff. I can see myself learning alot from all of you.

This is basically the same situation I am in. I reflashed MoDaCo not realizing that it resets the software version back to 1.29.651.1, so there's really no point to updating in the first place if you want to run the Current 1.1 MoDaCo ROM, which also breaks the Voicemail app. If I were you, or if I hadn't already gone through the process, I'd just wait for the updated MoDaCo ROM that includes the Sprint Maint Rel update. I think he said he'd probably have it ready by the weekend or Monday (11/23). Right now I'm not sure if I'll keep what I have for a few days until the patched ROM is ready, or restore the nandroid backup I made right after applying the Sprint upgrade and rooting, or go back to stock again and not apply the update and reinstall MoDaCo 1.1.

What do you mean break the voicemail app? I don't think I am having any issues with my voicemail. Can you tell me what that is you are referring to?
BTW, if you do decide to nandroid and root, will you just not flash a new ROM or use the stock ROM instead?? My main reason for using MoDaCo's ROM was for app2SD, i definately don't want to go back to apps on the internal memory now.
For those who didn't dare to try... I got Froyo running on an AT&T version. All you need is to follow this guide: http://www.androidspin.com/2010/05/...-nexus-one-its-like-it-never-happened-almost/
Flash the ERD79 Release, update to EFE27. Then run the Froyo update through Stock recovery. 3G works fine, radio updated (I think?) and everything is fast.
thanks for your post. but the issue that most ATT N1 users are facing is updating to 2.2/Froyo from their non-rooted, bootloader-locked. devices.

I think that rooting and unlocking the bootloader it's the way to go now, since like everybody has done it.

I'm one that hasn't rooted, yet. Party due to my phone is less than two weeks old and I don't want to void the warranty just yet.
I just went from KangoRama to full wipe to Froyo...
Having owned several HTC phones, there's no way I'm voiding my warranty
Lot of trouble for nothing, if you are already rooted and have Amon's recovery. Just install Paul's Rooted Froyo and you've got the same thing, except with root.
rooting doesnt void hardware warranty
Experienced it
Froyo using AmonRa recovery - WORKS!
Followed some success off CM's forums in getting Froyo up and running on an AT&T N1. In fact it's been pretty error free (short of a couple apps not behaving with 2.2) and to top it off, no wipe needed.
Paul over on Modaco's site managed to pop up an image that is rooted and works with AmonRa's recovery. All I did was copy the zip to the SD card, ran recovery, flashed from SD, and voila! Froyo without having to painstakingly reinstall all my apps. No issues with 3G so far, but like all stock roms, there's no indication of running HSDPA unless you go into the about phone option in settings.
So far cooling off the hot day with some Froyo here.
Paul's Original Post on Modaco
Edit: And yes, if you didn't boot unlock your phone and want 2.2, then your only choice is waiting for the OTA to eventually hit you... when it goes public instead of press-only.
Are you able to view large images on your browser?
I know I'm not :S

I followed the guide and went from erd79 to ere27 but when trying to update to froyo my N1 would not boot completely. Ran adb logcat and watched the log and it looped running the same stuff over and over again.

Yep, flashed the rooted version of FroYo, works great. Love it!!
Did the factory reset several times. I am able to get to recovery mode and stuff...just I can't get past the HTC Incredible white screen...any advice?
Post in general would be better
are you in stock or custom recovery
If you are able to get into recovery, does a nandroid restore work for a backup? Or are you saying it's not booting past the screen after a restore?
You are rooted?
If so just android restore

This happened to me after I installed the wrong Market fingerprint on 2.2. Nandroid more than likely would have worked if I had a more recent one. I had to wipe and reinstall.
Always remember you can RUU if you didn't **** up hboot and recovery
HTC Incredible, rooted w/ modified Sense 2.1
i had the same problem AFTER i updated my radio and installed 2.2 leak, i got into cwm and just reinstalled the 2.2 leak again which should work for u if u are in the same boat
Yikes
I remain baffled that people are jumping thru these fairly dangerous hoops just to install a beta radio and a fairly buggy prerelease beta 2.2 ... so close to the actual release of 2.2.
I do hope you are able to resolve your issue.

i think it is because of us daring people that these bugs are found and i strongly believe we are test subjects to a wider audience then an internal group of testers for these leaks. i have had very minor issues with this 2.2 leak and most problems are from tweaking and root features with exception of market and gmail bugs everything else in my phone works to my expectations...unfortunately there are those out there who have not had the same luck i have had and i think a lot of these problems with rooting and flashing comes from inexperience, this is my first root on android phone but between my past winmo/iphone/blackberry experiences of hack/jailbreak etc. i've went through my share of precautions to ensure any type of root/hack is recoverable...just my opinion
Nandroid didn't work. I ran that zip that unroots the phone and that fixed it. Waiting for the real OTA to come out, now.
Had the same problem. Kingdom install worked after i updated hboot to .92 and radio to latest 2.15 one. Then the thing went past the initial HTC screen.
Just wondering how it is working out? Will try to update my wifes tonight.
No. Did check for update but none availabe yet..it will b released in at different intervals so it may b available for u. Let us know how it works out for u.

Froyo Update
My Intercept updated to Android Froyo 2.2 this morning!
Guys, there's a ton of talk that the Froyo update bricked half the phones that did it. Happened to my sister's phone this morning. It installs, then gives you the triangle with the exclamation mark. When you reboot, it freezes after the Samsung animation.
No problems here....wife's intercept.......good to go.....noticeably faster...home and back button work fine now. Good stuff

My sister updated hers this morning....nothing like a full upgrade OTA!!! looks great, went smoothly BTW, just so there's no confusion, updating formats your internal storage....back up all your data first!!! You'll lose messages, apps, games, contacts, settings, etc.
Update was pushed to me, I tried it it failed because I have inxane's custom recovery installing so I need to find a download of the rom or wait for ubuntdroid to come up with a 2.2 release

Here you go. Not sure if it's 2.1 or 2.2, either way I'm using it unbrick my sister's because the OTA has a 50/50 chance of working. Also the stock kernel is here:

Bricked my wife's phone this morning. Took it into the store and they replaced the phone. Updated the new phone without a problem. Phone is way better than it was before IMHO.
Got it this morning, installed cleanly. Spent all day trying to root it. Tried SuperOneClick, Z4, and Rage Against the Cage. Anyone successfully root the Sprint Intercept on 2.1? Thanks.

Z4 won't root for me on 2.2 either
I had tried Universal Androot as well. I haven't heard to many people talking about finding a root that work. YouTube hasn't been much help either.
see here for rooting 2.2

Thanks, I finally got SuperOneClick to work with Froyo.
I managed to unbrick my sister's Intercept and then upgrade it to 2.2. Super easy and no rooting required.
Samsung really has to get their act together. Did you guys see this?

Ironically people complain about Samsung being slow to update their phones but I wouldn't want them to release a version that bricks the phone instead.

They have done exactly that, though almost half the intercepts updated have bricked during the process lol
Is the 2.2 update only for Intercepts on Sprints service, or does it include those under VM as well?
Today I received an OTA system update version 1.82.405.1 on my HDZ.
Does anybody here received or installed it??
And what kind of update is it?
I'm affraid of losing root again, similar like what happend with version 1.72.
I feel like I'm stating the obvious here, but NEVER EVER install an OTA if you have root! I'm sure you know this now from your previous experiance, but just to save you trouble incase you didn't know. As for the update, I'm not sure what it contains, but it seems like an older update as the newest version of virtuous is based on 1.85.72.2.
EDIT: Also suggest reading this if you haven't already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875099
Thnx.
But I've read it's safe to flash an OTA update once you've rooted your phone with the Gfree method.
I now running a stock 1.72 rom, rooted with Gfree / psneuter.
In that case I'm not sure, but I wouldn't try it until it's been confirmed to be ok. And while I'm sure you have you're reasons, but why not try out the likes of virtuous? It's pretty much stock sense but with added features and improved performance, and as I said it's also on the latest RUU.
Taking an OTA will *definitely* reduce you to "stock", so even if its safe, it isn't worth it.
Be aware that it *IS POSSIBLE* for an OTA UPDATE to modify your partition 7 and take away radio s-off. The only reason why people tend to say that its safe is ONLY because they never actually HAVE done that.
still i am curious about the content.
i dont need root anymore. DZ is perfectly fine without.
I don't think applying and offical OTA while rooted on a non stock rom is a good idea. If your willing to take the risk, or don't care about loosing root or getting it back if lost. Then try it out. Be the guinea pig because it doesn't look like you will take the advise of the forum you posted anyways.

yes, it is a 17 Mb package. I got it and installed it. (nothing to lose, I have no root, I do not need it, my DZ is PERFECT without it. I have been tweaking and **** before on WinMo, but not now...)
It said it is camera improvements and other small bugfixes.
All I saw is a different sms counter on the icon, it's white numbers on a black circle, nothing special.
I had a busy day, had no time to play around.
The firmware remains 2.2.1.
I will follow up if I find out anything else.
Update: the mentiones sms counter is for a voicemail of course ))) my fault
I've read the album/gallery bugs are fixed. No need to rescan pictures anymore.

No use as the updates are usually non-important and if they are, someone will extract it and you can flash it by itself without the risk.
HTC hasn't yet released official release notes for this update. As already said it should improve camera, system performance, fix some bugs and also improve htcsence.com -functionality.
htc 1.82.405.1 update
I just updated using the OTA update to 1.82.405.1 on my htc desire z (I have stock android).
But now the touch screen is horizontaly mirrored.
Meaning if i click on home the search button is clicked.
If i touch the icons on the left side, the right side icon registers the click.
Only center of the screen is safe
Let me know if anyone else has this issue after the recent updated.
Hopefully there is a solution out there.
UPDATE:
I did 2x hard resets which didnt help.
However a soft reset did the trick and every thing is back to normal.

If you already have root/S-OFF, then it's only "safe" once the new release has been verified by the devs as not causing anything bad to happen with your root/S-OFF. e.g. in theory there could be a new OTA released that will permanently lock you out of root/S-OFF.
When the 1.72 OTA first came out, it wasn't rootable for quite a while, so folks with root who accepted the OTA lost their root for some time.
Damn, I am getting the feeling the new update drains the battery faster than 1.72,
phone was about empty at 11pm yesterday, it was plugged in until 8 am...
done nothing the entire day actually...
notification-bug seems to be fixed (yes, new counter for sms/mails/etc) and best part: no jumping screen, when writing sms!!! at least till now...
