"Uninstall Not Successful" when trying to unistall Extended Controls - EVO 4G General

When I try to uninstall Extended Controls on my Evo 4G (by going to Manage Applications -> Downloaded -> Extended Controls -> Uninstall) it asks me "Uninstall application?" and then when I hit "ok" immediately tells me "Uninstall not successful".
I've tried clearing the app data, force stopping it, I've even tried hitting cancel instead of okay, none of which have gotten me anywhere.
My phone is unmodified (meaning no root or anything).
I had downloaded this popular app, but upon realizing that the 4G, 3G/2G, and Network buttons don't work, I returned it (why is it so popular?). I clicked the refund and uninstall button, and luckily got my refund, even though it won't uninstall. I had emailed the developers about the errored buttons to which they simply replied "I'm so sorry but Android limitations doesn't allow us to do more."... which seemed like an flippant reply to a bug report. Perhaps I could try and email them about the unistall, but I'm thinking that won't get me anywhere.
So now I still have this app, even though I've got my refund, which would actually be kinda cool, if it weren't for the fact the app doesn't work and I kinda want it off my phone now.
Any tips besides a hard reset?
Thanks

4g works fine give it a sec enable toasts so you know it's turning on or off , 3g/2g on the otherhand requires root
newest version has screen lock ability , go to menu , setting , security , device administrators and uncheck it from list will uninstall
Great app I would keep it
Swyped from my EVO

Try uninstalling it with titanium backup.

Your are the MAN
I was banging my head as to why it will not uninstall. It has got corrupted. Widgets configurations can be seen under profile tab once i try to place a new widget on the screen. But the widget configurations disappeared when I open the app from the drawer and choose widgets (it was present earlier, but now it shows nothing)
So the only way to open is to do it like I want to create a new widget from homescreen everytime... Clearing data etc did not work and it wouldnt let me uninstall... Thanks for the tip!!

No prob

how to get the profile and prl working when it says unknown error

this is what i did is using adw launcher long press on home screen then select custom shortcut then press pick your activity then press activities then scroll down till you find system updates its a green circle with a white check mark press that then scroll down to [OMA DM Settings(.dmhiddenmenu.OMADM_Settings) it will create a new icon on the home screen press it. when it opens press server address type then press ipv4 then press ok. no more errors wooo hoooo
I think that worked. I used LauncherPro, but the idea is the same. i don't get errors any more, just a note that says no updates available.
Did everything up until changing the server type (did this through similar menu settings in launcher pro btw), and then decided to make sure it was still giving me an error before doing the tweak. Went and checked and it hasn't thrown me an error once. So it might just be that Sprints has straightened things out on their end.

I'm thinking the same thing. It doesn't error for me either, without the tweak.
Holy CRAP! Mine said the same thing without any fix after 2 months of errors! I was going this morning to swap my phone out!!!! Yeah!
I got my replacement phone yesterday and now it doesn't give me an error when trying to update profile/prl. I'm pretty sure it was on Sprints side though
im not sure if it was on sprints end or not but it worked for me. my samsung epic is on boost mobile and all my other phones it worked. i hope its all good now

Yes, just got "PRL updated" and radio reset and still 60676. Had 60677 a week ago when Sprint pushed me to 76.
Yeah I've been on 677 for a while now. I went last saturday to the repair store hoping to get another phone. That didn't happen. They said it's the programmer's fault. They said there isn't any updates and instead of the dialog box saying no updates available, it says unknown or internal error. I asked him then to try it out on his epic sitting on the desk in front of him. He said he could try it but nothing will happen because he's rooted and running a custom rom......
Anyways, I didn't do the suggestion from the OP and tried updating before changing anything and profile didn't come back with any message and prl came back with no updates available.
im happy to be able to update profile because i flashed my phone to boost mobile but had problems with data authenticating after i played around for a month with this i found this solution so now my phone also completes a hands free activation. i flashed a different modem the error came right back but i did the trick again and the updates work. go figure i cant figure it out

Hangouts SMS crash [solved]

Problem
-------------
Hangouts crashes trying to send SMS after 4.4.3 upgrade. 3rd Party apps do the same. As soon as you start typing hangouts crashes.
You disabled "Messaging" before the upgrade and can't re-enable it. "Enable" is grayed out in the Settings->Apps menu.
Solution
---------
In the Settings->apps menu - the 3 dots menu has a "Reset App Preferences" option. It re-enables ALL disabled apps. This will fix sending SMS/MMS. You can't have it disabled in 4.4.3 safely.

OK I found a fix. In the apps menu - the 3 dots menu has a "Reset App Preferences" option. It re-enables ALL disabled apps. Not ideal since I'll have to re-disable the others I don't want. But at least it gets messaging re-enabled.
That makes SMS work again oddly enough. Just need to deal with having a "messaging" app in the drawer that I don't use I guess.

Nice! Thanks for posting the fix, could come in handy for me once I switch to 4.4.3 as I have 68 services/apps frozen =P
I also had this issue. I factory reset, which is usually a decent idea after updates. It definitely had something to do with messaging being disabled and I couldn't reenable it either. Glad you found an alternate fix, loving the update so far

Yeah if I had been rooted and done titantium backup recently, that would have been my approach too. I didn't want to have to redo all my apps and settings etc. Glad I didn't have to.
I didn't use TiBu to restore. It's weird but this phone is the first that I don't really back things up like I used to. Mostly cause I have no risk of breaking stuff via flashing nightlies and the like. I've had iffy experiences restoring old data on to new builds so I started from scratch. So far so good.
Yeah I had this too. After the update, i could receive but not send SMS/MMS. Had the stock app previously disabled and then the enable button was gone. Drove me absolutely crazy last night and most of today. Tried half a dozen SMS apps and even downloaded two entire Roms to get their MMS.apk and try to install them (which did not work at all). Even deleted all my messages with an SMS backup app. Nada. Moto support (obviously bad idea) said to clear cache for entire phone, which totally could have worked but was completely unhelpful. I did dozens of Google searches about it and came up empty every time. I was just about to give in to a factory reset, which I consider the my last resort, and I checked the action overflow in the disabled apps section and found the "reset app preferences". Then just browsing XDA for battery tips a few minutes later, I came across then. I even checked the Dev section earlier. But I guess I should have checked general. Thanks for putting this out there for others to find.
Thanks for this solution. Made life better for me. I guess 4.4.3 doesn't allow us to disable the messaging app.
You are the man! I thought I was the only one having the problem. Thank you! :good:

Fix for Samsung Galaxy S4 Lollipop Bugs

Well first of all, i don't know if this works for other android phones but it fixed bugs on my S4 lollipop version.
Which i believe it will do because most of android have developer mode and have the "do not keep activities" on settings.
Bugs/problems are:
Keyboard auto hide while typing
Apps hangs then closes anytime
Phone automatically goes back to home then wallpaper changes on its default wallpaper.
••if you're having the same problem or have some if these problems, you can try this••
Steps :
1. Go to settings > more > developer option
(If you dont have "developer option". Go to Settings > more > About device. Look for "Build number" and tap it 12 times.
2. Swipe down and find "Do not keep activities".
3. Enable/Check it.
Done! Please leave a reply if it works on your phone. Thanks

"Do not keep activities" means that, every time you leave an app, it will close it. This means that the app won't stay in the cache.

It's called multitasking. Multitasking means doing X different things at the same time. This also implies that the apps do not close once you switch to another. Otherwise it's just exiting and entering a different app.
The S4 should be able to run a several apps at the same time without running out of memory, without killing them or without them crashing.
Hearing the various bugs about the Samsung lollipop, I say it's better to switch to AOSP roms. At least you also get good performance from them. Unlike the Touchwiz roms..

ahh so thats the "critical update" i declined. Was wondering what it was since there were no apps that needed updating in the store. Wonder what it does
It's update for fixing DQA keeps stopping issue.
I had mine suddenly download and install 3 things from the galaxp app store yesterday without me knowing anything about it. Personalized service client, samsung pass, and LED view cover icon editor. I thought I had been hacked and someone was downloading sutff to my phone!! No idea why it suddenly started doing that by itself. I have turned auto update apps off now in the galaxy app store, I guess they were already installed and were just auto updating (and i have no disabled them all in package disabler since they all seemed like junk).
I dont know what DQA does, wonder if its another one we can safely disable.

From what I understand, DQA has to do with checking the quality of your Wi-Fi. You'll notice if you turn your Wi-fi off, you'll stop getting those messages. Some have had success with going into your running Apps and force stopping the DQA. That didn't help me though and rebooting several times (which has also helped some) didn't work for me either. Still working through options. If anyone has other ideas...

I havent had any issues with or or any messages about it either before it updated or after. I usually have wifi on but have turned it off today and not noticed anything either. I have not disabled it in package disabler as i didnt know what it did, it doesnt seem to be using battery so i will just leave it on.
This is what I've found from Android Authority...
- Reboot device (may need to repeat a few times)
- Clear cache partition through recovery (turn off phone, press and hold Power, Volume Up and Bixby button. On Android screen, when you see ‘No command’ hold power and press volume up to access recovery. Use volume keys to highlight ‘Wipe cache partition’ and press Power to select. Highlight ‘Yes’ and press Power to confirm, then reboot phone)
- Turn off Wi-Fi
- Disable high performance mode
- Force quit DQA app (go to Settings > Apps and tap the overflow menu (three dots at the top right), tap ‘Show system apps’ and locate DQA. Tap it and ‘Force stop’)
- Disable DQA app with BK Package Disabler (costs $1.50, does not require root). Install app, grant permissions, swipe to System tab, find DQA and check the box next to it (simply uncheck to re-enable).
I haven't tried all these options yet. Let me know if any help should you decide to try.
I'm bumping this topic. Tried googling DQA, but very little seems to be known about it. If it indeed is checking the quality of the wifi, is it really safe to disable?

Hi, have you found any info regarding DQA? I found it among the recommended apps to disable/uninstall on Universal Android Debloater, but still I read somewhere that some of the apps disabled through UAD might be important, so I'm not sure about what to do.

Phone been acting weird... need help

My phone has been acting really weird for a few months now and I can't figure it out. Is there a way to find all apps on the phone user installed, system, and hidden?? My phone isnt rooted; well I havent rooted it nor does it say it has. For instance earlier when I pushed my volume button there was an accessibility guy there nothing would open when I pushed him and while looking threw my accessibility settings and checking here and there to see if he was still there, he just vanishes without me turning anything off. Like WTF. Theres other weird things but that's just the most recent 1. And it's got me very concerned. Pls help!!
Your probably have a setting on in Accessibility like visibility enhancements or screen reader, you'll need to turn it off.
For list of apps you can view them in Settings > Apps ( Tap the 3 dots on the top right and tap "Show system apps" )

That's what I thought at first so I went threw my accessibility settings and they r all off. He hasn't been back so far that I have noticed. I know there r some spyware and malware that u can hide from being seen or make it look like some random app. Is there a way to use like adb or android studio to scan it for something that shouldn't be there.

I'm not sure too much about malware, I do know that Samsung has their own "Security Features" in Settings > Device Care > Security if you want to scan your device, also try Play Protect.
Seeing that the Accessibility issues are out of the way, what other problems are you experiencing ?

I saw the guy again but this time I kinda got to look at the running services and I found this. Could that have something to do with it?? As u can kinda tell, once I forced stopped that cloud messaging service the time changed on it and went under the dual messenger service. But as I was saying beforehand, google play services always had a pop up saying using headphones in the background. But my data doubled in the last 2-3 months, things I download will just disappear and pictures (like my phone will restore itself a few days but not my messages or calls), my phone also keeps adding a new camera gallery like it's not connected anymore and is a new camera same with the screenshot folder. So Cloud Messaging's time would change because after you stopped the process it restarted itself. But the other things make it look like your phone is being haunted
