how to bring it self to front? - Android Software Development

hello =) I got a app and when its "hidden", like when you press the home button, it starts a timer and when that timer has counted all the way I want the same activity to pop up and be brought to front! I have googled a lot but I cant find how to bring it self to front...
anybody that knows this?

What kind of app are you coding?
No offence but that sounds incredibly irritating. I'm pretty sure i'd uninstall an app that just kept 'popping' up every few minutes.

haha I just made the example simpler than if I would explain everything ^^ so its far from exactly like that ;D its for my app "myClock" so its not that irritating as it sounds
its just when I snooze people can press home and then it rings for example 7 minutes later and the app is in the background, would be great if it jumps to foreground =)

Most annoying X1 bug?

so whats youre most annoying X1 bug? try to keep it to one! lol
i dont know if anyone else gets this but the one that drives me up the wall is when i send an sms text and the little popup comes up and says "sent" if i dont click on dismiss within half a second then the dismiss button is unresponsive and wont clear the notification. so the phone is basically locked for a few seconds. what normally happens then is because ive tried pressing it the phone wakes up and the dismiss button has now become the "Send" button instead and i send a blank text!! can become fantastically annoying when texting a couple of people at the same time. the x1 just doesnt seem fast enough to cope. of course i could turn off the sent notification but i like to know that the sms has been sent. im hoping R3 firmware will be a little more responsive and sort this problem.
anyone got a more annoying bug?
did u ever try to click somewhere else then the notification shows(some empty space above it)? does the same as dismiss and doesnt lag...
You can disable this through registry lol. You know the SMS has been sent through Sent Items folder. You only open it when you believe that it hasn't been sent.

i just tried it, if i click anywhere apart from on "dismiss" then nothing happens. the notification just stays there until i click on it or press the softkey. i have noticed it does it with the vibrate on but seems ok when its on silent...
i know that the sent notification can be turned off. just i like to have it on. but yeh i suppose i can just rely on the sent notification to alert me. just seems a bit unfair that a compromise has to be made rather than the phone doing somethin that it should do!

That workaround only works on the HTC Notification replacement.

If you turn of the message sent notification and the message doesnt send for some reason it still shows that it hasnt sent. so with the lag etc it causes its easier to just disable it seems pointless to me
There u go
http://geekedout.se/winmo.php#confirmoff
yeh i knew how to turn it off. ive got xperia tweak. i suppose its an old habit from when i had the p series phones. they used to have a sent message pop up then dissappear and also in the sent folder the text was marked as delivered or not. much better than the x1's system of sending a text to show delivery. ive disabled the sent notifications now so ill see how that goes. now the next thing to sort out is the lag from pressing the reply button and the new text appearing.. sometimes ive written half a sentance before anything appears on the screen lol
anyone else get the bug where when you press the space bar the start menu opens?? or the one where you send a text and the vibrate just stays on for about 10 seconds until the sent notification appears?
I have a Clock Delay problem....yesterday it was delayed 1hour! I had to adjust clock...today it was 20 min and then after a few hours 10 minutes!!! I think I am going to put a thread here about this problem....

Disable the flip clock first animation

Hey guys,
I was wondering if its possible to disable the first animation from the flip clock? i dont like it and it always confuzes me how late (early) it is.
So if anyone knows how to disable it.. it was really easy on my hd2, just install a .cab file.
Thanks
+1 for me on this one.
It really is annoying and especially on analog clocks the animation looks rather weird.
Regards,
And another request from me...
This was pretty much the first thing I did on my HD2 (disable flip) and it's driving me nuts already!
bump bump , same here
Bump!
Agreed about the analog comment...it's bloody weird!
No one knows how? i will call htc tomorrow and ask them.

You can try but they probably don't have a solution.., It's just build in.
Not that this disables it by normal operation, but I find using "No Lock" from the Market skips the animation when you press the power button, but it also removes the need to "slide down" to unlock after pressing the power button (this is good in my book, and the real reason I use it).
This also annoyed me to no end when I first got the phone especially on the analogue clocks. It looks really stupid to see the hands rotate round the clock to the correct time every time you flick back to it! I searched for hours trying to find a solution but I gave up. Which is a real shame because I really like the HTC clocks but can't use them

Yeah that was their answer too. So there's not going to be a way to do this official.
Another one from me, very annoying!!

Lockscreen slow

Hi,
It's not that big of a deal but when i start using a custom image for my lockscreen the wake up speed is delayed by a second or so. And the strange thing is, it doesnt happen when the music controls are active? You guys think it has anything to do that the picture is not on the phone storage but on the sd card(external)?
Regards
There was a thread on this already, but why do not you try placing same image on internal storage and seeing if that helps?
This thread is coming up a lot.
Long story short its because the CPU downclocks to save power when its locked, and when you unlock it it takes a second for the CPU to kick back into gear and gets its act together.
There is no delay when the phone is plugged in or when the music app is running becuase the CPU doesn't downclock as much so its more responsive when its being woken up as the CPU is running as slowly as it does when its not plugged in/no music app running.
Oh sorry I honestly did a search for this! Yeah thought it would be something like that. Also had this on my rooted desire if it downclocked to 200mHz or something (that's why i set it on minimal 400 mHz, problem solved), dont know the exact numbers. Well Just gotta live with it right Thanks for the replies!

yes very annoying issue, and also i really hate the home button on the sgs2, when im in an app and need to go to the home screen it takes me 3 seconds be4 it actually switches to it. i know its because of the doubletap function, its waiting for the second press for the voice command menu. wish they made this function an option because i dont use the voice commands at all.

Huh? There is _zero_ delay if I press the homebutton when I'm in an app, and it doesn't matter what app it is either. So the way you have it is not the way it's supposed to be...
I do get a 1.5 second delay when turning on the screen from standby though.
The image is copied to the data folder by the Cooliris Gallery App after cropping. I have ported the Galaxy S II Lockscreen to Galaxy S, the lag appears only for the first time after changing the image for Lockscreen wallpaper. Its instantaneous after that.

I'm on stock GB right now from telus... but when I do this my screen just shuts off. Same thing happened on froyo. Realy wish I could figure this out, eliminate the need of an app.
Thx

Maniac - I believe you and I have the exact same configuration at this point. The other day I took 2 screen-shots - was pretty sure it was a double tap on home (I have the screen-shots saved in the gallery under screen-capture). For the life of me, I CANNOT replicate the behaviour - this has happened to me a few times.
Appears like the guts of doing it is in Android, but you sometimes just trip over the functionality every now and again. Not sure why they keep missing this one, seems like an obvious feature.

Thanks for the reply, I've never got it to work. Ever. So now that I know it is possible, I'm going to try to figure this out. It would be awesome, very simple, but awesome.
I will report back if I make any progress.

Do the telus roms include a (I may be wrong on the name) ScreenCaptureService.apk within system/app? Because that was needed for the above mentioned methods of stock froyo screen capture.
good day.
yea I do have that file in gingerbread, had it in froyo as well. I don't think it has anything to do with screencapture as such. I copied the file to my pc, extracted it and it contains a couple common .xml you find in all APK's and shutter1.ogg file. Which I'm thinking is the sound for the camera.
I've looked through the manual and I couldn't find anything about taking screenshots.
I bet if it can be done it's going to turn out to be something so small and easy.. that's always the way these things work out.
Maybe menu and down thats miui shortcut I believe

As of right now I have 43 unwanted screen captures. All from just pressing the power button alone. LAME!! and more so annoying because the screen won't turn off unless you back out of an app.
Keep me Fascinated.

I'm on official 2.2
For me to screen capture I have to hold the back button until it vibrates (like one second) and THEN press the power button while continuing to hold the back button.
Works every time for me. Some applications don't handle it well and the long hold of the back button takes you up one level...

I am on ccampos's PWGB beta 3 and it works the exact same way for me. Long press on the back button and a quick click of the power button.
On Gummy GBE I hold the back button and press the home button. The quality of the screen grabs is lower than drocap though.
Sorry for the upcoming caps.. but besides a video I can't get my point across any other way...
I"VE TRIED EVERYTHING.. to get a screenshot working without 3rd party app. Maybe I'm nuts, but, this is just something that is bugging me for some time now.. since 2.2... I won't stop until I figure it out.

App idea: Alt+Tab style, single click switch to previous app. Exist already?

I I have looked all over for an app to do this but have found nothing. I am ready to start writing my own, but want to make sure it doesn't exist already? Seems hard to believe no one has done this yet!?
say i need to copy/paste listing descriptions from evernote into ebay... I want a QUICK trigger, maybe double tapping home or something that shows a simple app list in a transparent overlay.
Pick the ebay app and it loads. After pasting the title there, double tap home again and instantly, it flips back to Evernote where I can repeat this process with the description and other fields. Maybe the volume key could flip between the two apps, or better yet, a swipe.
Seeing how I use that technique a million times a day, it would save countless hours over all the other task manager types that always load a display of all (or none) of the recent apps when triggered. I don't know about everybody else, but there's a 90% chance that if I want to quickly flip to another app, it's because I intend to quickly flip right back in a few seconds.
This is such a vital function for me on computers that I dedicate a whole button on my mouse to pressing Alt+Tab so I can flip back and forth very fast. I have become very spoiled by that technique and can't stand doing work on Android just because of its annoyingly slow and painful "task manager" if you can even call it that. TIA!

I am sorry, but you cannot override the home button.
You could try one of the various side bar apps though.
It could be a swipe gesture or anything that requires only ONE step. I don't want to bring up an app selection list on every switch, but just the first time. Maybe a notification bar button could bring up the selector, then a side swipe gesture could flip back and forth between the two apps? It should be simple to write this. I just cant believe that it hasn't already been done? Surely someone knows of an existing app?

Yeah. But it could be a small invisible hotzone like many of the task managers do. Swiping is just for the cool factor really. Using the volume button should work just fine for my needs. Would that work? The volume button can still listen to an app thats not in focus because music players do it right? But i guess that would be a problem if one of the switched apps overrides the volume control...? Any suggestions? If nobody has pointed out an existing app with this capability I will start on it tonight. I'm still a newb to Android but, I am majoring in programming so I gotta jump in on something!

if I understand correctly you just want to have multitasking without having to hit the multitask button and then choose the app; you just want to be able to choose the app. I would say something like floating folders would work for you.
