Currently I have the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 8GB international, unlocked. The problem is that I am at Tmobile and I can not use the 3G network because of difference in frequencies in the international edition (AWS / 1700Mhz issue).
So I checked the prices of the plans at http://www.boostmobilestore.com and I think it is pretty good. I am staying at Boston and know that the coverage is pretty good.
So I am thinking of selling my phone and buying the Epic 4G. Do you think it is a wise choice? What differences would I face by switching?
In the community of i9000 there are a lot of FroYo firmwares and mods, we have the lag issue but plenty plenty of lag fixes too. The only maybe I will need is Swype in Greek that I suppose it is to install it from another FroYo version...at least in i9000 it was possible.
The epic is the i9000 with a keyboard and gimped memory with no official froyo

Hahha...The i9000 I have flashed it, many many times, so I am not worried of bricking the phone. The first thing I will check is to see if download mode is there, and if it is no problems...
But you know it is not a good thing to have this nice device on EDGE (or 2G)... I am paying also $60 per month for 500 minutes...
Why not have for $50 unlimited plus 4G?

Let's look. Hmmm. Nope.
The only way they might be able to make it up to most of us is by going straight to Gingerbread or by offering every Vibrant 3g owner a more than 1/2 percent discount on the new Vibrant 4g with the return of the current Vibrant 3g.
My biggest issue with Samsung is the lack of being straight forward/direct with us. Every question they've been asked about the update or rumors about our Vibrant being able to utilize 4g speeds Samsung won't even say yes or even deny it. It definitely makes me wonder. Its sad cause they definitely make great hardware (minus the gps issue). They probably hesitant on releasing Froyo 2.2 because the release of Froyo will prove that the gps issue is hardware based.

So what is holding the update sammyy?
Btw samsung don't make promises it will look bad if you don't keep ur promises you know...like the promise you made months ago? About froyo update? I guess soon means 6months to you, sammy.

just want to let you guys know my cousin and i went in to a t mobile store to speak to a rep about the vibrant 4g. we wanted to know if it would be worth exchanging our old vibrant for the new ones. he stated that there is not a lot of hard ward difference was just the FFC and that's it. the software change only being froyo. he said if it were him he wouldn't switch. He also said the official update for froyo was actually released through kies about 10 days ago. i wasn't aware of this just though i would share.

The differences b/w the two include:
4G radio in SGS 4G
16GB internal SD card on the Vibrant
FFC on SGS 4G
2.2.1 on SGS 4G from the get go
SGS 4G comes with Inception movie as a multimedia feature on included 16GB external SD card.

Actually it is. They both cost the same price, they both have almost the same hardware, and the Epic is a better phone as fast as multimedia. Video recording in 720p and way better camera software/libs. I rather the ns for development. If I rathered the multi media features the Epic would win out. That's why I kept both phones. I use the nexus as a phone and carry the Epic to do video and listen to music so I think its a fair trade.

I believe right now the ns4g is 460 off contract the epic was 540 so its actually more. Epic is a great phone but laggy with the bloat and carrier iq present luckily theres roms out to fr ix that. im currently working on an aosp build for it from 2.3.4 source which should put it on a level playing field with the nexus. GB leaks for the epic are greatly improving the phone

That's the thing. I'm moving out the country and canceling my contract very soon. Wanted a GSM phone... guess this was the wrong place for that. But I posted in the mktpl as well as the ns forums (GSM). But I would take a cdma version because of the aosp. Regardless I like my phone. Doesn't seem like anyone wants to take me up on my offer

Try to trade locally for an unlocked Vibrant or HD2. The Dev support for those phones are ridiculously large. You could also sell the epic on craigslist for $200 then use that to buy an unlocked t-mobile android phone (Vibrant/Mytouch 4g/G2/HD2) if someone won't trade.
Personally I would sell the epic then buy a vibrant. The vibrant has HSPA bands you could use in europe and has aosp/cm7 roms similar to what the Nexus S runs. It is also easily unlocked by everyday users without having to pay a dime, so you can save money by buying a locked vbrant and unlocking it yourself.
Just keep trying OP...
I trade lots of stuff online. I remember trying to trade an Elite 360 for a 60gb BC PS3...I tried and tried and wrote over 10 people every day for a month until I found someone that said yes. It may take some time but you will adventually find someone that is willing to do it.
I wish someone would take my infuse for an i9020a :*( you guys have amazing dev support and roms...I'm so jealous!

hey,
my Aunt gave me an evo 4g for sprint today and thought i could use it (i have t mobile), so after about 15 minutes of explaining to her why i can't use it, i decided it was easier to just accept it and say thank you.
But now I have this phone that i cannot use and i am wondering what would be a t mobile equivalent seeing as how i am looking to trade it.
Any suggestions? It's mint condition with an otterbox

Oh... derp. I dont know much about US phones so yeah maybe use it as a gaming device (put a load of ROM's n emulators on there. Use it as an alarm clock? Thers literally literally 100's of uses.

Maybe HTC mytouch 4G? Idk, I think its a better idea to sell the EVO then buy a different phone rather than trade.
Sent from my MB508 using xda premium
yea, i thought about the hand-held emulator thing, but seeing as how i have a rooted g1 and a jb unlocked iphone 3, i'd really just like a newer phone.
If i sold it, what do you think i could get for it? 100 dollars?
HTC didn't really make many T-Mobile phones of that generation. Just the MT4G AND G2. Spec-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S 4G is similar, but the Vibrant has much better support by devs here.
I think you can also unlock the Infuse 4G to run on TMO, but I'd check on that yourself to see if you can get it to run on TMO's 4G network. Otherwise, sell it, save up some cash, and buy a T989 used. Some great ROMs for us over there.
root it through a custom rom on it, sell it for $120

nah, just cdma support
i can't get into the marketplace >.< but does anyone have a t mobile phone for sale that has a 1 gig processor and hopefully around 512 ram? I just found out that the evo i have doesn't have a clean ESN because i was mistaken....i thought it was my aunts old phone that she didn't need anymore, but really it was just a phone that she found. so i am in the process of contacting the previous owner to give the phone back

So my og is a mess of cracks and other issues and my 3vo has the digitizer ghost touch. So I am looking for a new cdma device. Been looking at the note 2, s4, and a couple of the nexus devices.
I flash my phone so bad esn phones are the best way to go for me. They are cheaper than new and i don't get stuck with a contract. The nexus phones seem to have the best of the aftermarket roms but not sure which one is the best. I do like htc sense but so far the one just seems out classed by the rest.
So I figured I would see what others think would be the way to go.

I've found the LTE EVO pretty cheap on craiglist and swappa. As well as the Droid DNA which is both cdma and gsm. I've gone the way of GSM now because there is a Wal-mart exclusive t-mobile prepaid plan for $30 a month unlimited text, and data (up to 5gigs high speed then throttled afterwards) 100 minutes. Though I rarely make calls.

This may help me make a decision on a new phone. I go the prepaid route as well. I'm currently in the same market as a phone buyer so I will have to keep GSM in mind. Thanks for that heads up sir.
The downside of gsm is the simcard. Your esn is on the card so there are no bad esn phones which means the prices are higher than a cdma with a bad esn.

The EVO LTE was a nice upgrade a year ago when I moved up from my OG EVO. A year later, though, there is a whole new swath of Android phones to choose from. If I had to upgrade now from my EVO LTE I don't even know what I'd choose. It's definitely a "buyers market", so to speak.
