I know there are some apps listed in market that allow live streaming but non of them seem to work. For example Fox News has an app for live radio, it installs OK but when running it it just sits there and I never get any sound.
Also trying some radio stations websites I never get the live streaming to work, even trying multiple browsers (Opera, Dolphin, SkyFire and built in one).
Anyone have any luck trying the above?
Thanks
I'm using TuneIn Radio app. Has all my local stations in CD quality and works well. Although it does take a while for the streams to load.
Also since I flashed JK1 firmware, I can now go on to all my favourite sites and use the built-in flash players. Maybe it's something to do with the firmware?
You beat me to it I just installed Tunein..and yes it works great! A little issue on the buffering (and I'm in a great reception area too) but other than that its a great app!
I have the JK5 flashed to my tab at the moment (ATT Tab with working phone in US) so that may be part of the reason.
Thanks
yes I don't know why it takes so long to buffer but once it kicks in, mine plays without any issues.
Also just noticed it has alarm wakeup function in the menu, so you can specify a time and it will start playing your favourite station to wake you up
+1 tunein
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
While streaming this will this eat into my Sprint 2gb plan ?
Thanks...
Is there a service that can cache music to my SD card while I'm on wifi instead of eating up my 3G plan?
I know Slacker can do this, but they charge for that feature (I think).

Hi all,
Wonder if anyone has experienced this. My Touch HD (stock Orange ROM) is really jerky when playing Youtube videos through the client over Wifi, but fine over a 3g connection..
The Wifi connection is plenty fast enough, the Mrs has an iPhone, which works fine.
Anyone got any idea what I can check? I've made sure everything is turned off.. bluetooth etc..
stuck!
thanks
Mark
Hi, easy one this :0) Go to the settings tab select communications, in the bottom right tap settings, then tap wireless lan. Once there select the power mode tab then move slide all the way to the left for best performance. Always works for me, hope it does for you :0)
Sadly not mate, already tried that!
OK so this is REALLY weird. If I have nothing else downloading at home, and the youtube player is downloading it's jerky.
If I start a download going on my laptop (usenet - canes my connection) then what HAS buffered on my Touch HD plays fine. The moment I stop the download, it starts to be jerky again.
Almost seems like the throughput to the phone is killing it somehow, weird! have tried all sorts of settings on my router, but no dice.
Really stuck as to what to try next :/
Must admit until buffering is complete, I too get slightly jerky playback. Although this has always been the case with every Windows Mobile device I've had. Sorry I can't help you anymore m8
:0( Good luck with it.
Background downloading slows the device down, so it cant play the video smoothly. Go to youtube app settings and turn video playback quality to fast download. That helps, but the quality is awful.
I use the high quality, and just wait the video to finish downloading.
It's not just the fact that it's downloading in the background because it's doing that over 3g but plays fine, it's something specific to Wifi.
It's also not just slightly jerky, it's REALLY bad.
I mean.. I've watched plenty of reviews of this device where they've streamed youtube over wifiand it.screen fine..
I wonder if upgrading the radio would help? or is the wifi stuff done by the rom?
Worth a try, my HD works much better with new radio 1.10.25.25 + Custom rom Black Pearl 1.7 lite.
will have to give that a try then. The stock Orange rom is good apart from that but a bit slow.
Just finding picking one to flash to a touch daunting, too much choice!
OK, so I downloaded and flashed to panosha Black Pearl v2.1 HD ROM.
Works fine, is VERY nice and fast Also updated my radio version to 1.12.25.16 but the Youtube thing is still there!!!
I'm going to try it on someone else's wifi connection as soon as I can, but for now, anyone got a clue?!?
OK, I've tried three different roms, and even tried two other wifi networks- same problem.
The device is generally slower when connected to a wifi network, not just youtube. I guess it's just more noticeable when playing YT videos.
Really lost now ;(
Could be that once you are connected on WIFI the youtube player automatically selects the best quality video for you to view, increasing system requirements.
At the same time as trying to view the higher quality video the WIFI also uses a fair bit of CPU power. Try downloading a file on WIFI with everything else closed and you'll notice your device is a lot less responsive until the download is completed.
Only a guess though.
Well of course, but you'd expect a device of this spec to be able to play it without stuttering all over the shop whilst nothing else is loaded...
Hi there = I've got the same bleedin problem!
I am on orange payg 3g, Dutty 2.1 extreme rom.
I never had the problem with the original (orange) total pants rom, but I've also updated the radio to 1.12 so perhaps it's an issue with the radio. Have you tried 1.13 the latest?
It's nowt to do with the youtube settings for sure, it's most definitely wi-fi related. I've noted the i-player mobile app is wildly out of sync on the audio too and never used to be that bad.
If anyone has any ideas or tweaks please let us know. thanks!
Maybe its because when you connect to wifi network it says that rx speed is 1mbps (it should be faster) and the real download speed is around 30 kb per second and i think that that is not enough for playing realtime high quality videos (needs buffering more often). When you set option to best performance that will just increase your transmit power and you will get better reception (but the speed still remains). Maybe that is the problem. Any solution on how to increase the RX speed?
Hi there, i am from singapore. I am also experiencing the same problem with the youtube client from the stock rom. i got mine from starhub! the video is jerky! need help!!
I installed skyfire and also tried some flash websites on IE since it does have flash support and while watching videos flash seems to be real choppy. I think it's due to the slowness of the buffering, but I have 4-5 bars on 3G so just wondering if its the browser or connection. Anyone have a fix to make the flash playback more responsive thanks.
Have you tried it using wifi?
What are the results?
No I haven't tried it yet, but I will definitely do that. I was kinda hoping I'd see better results with 3g, but I guess I was presumptuous.
I tried it with wifi and yet the video is still slow and choppy. It's almost like having a computer that can't handle a program so it starts buffering and bugging out. I don't have anything else running and I have hooked up it to wifi as well and let the video load before watching still is choppy and goes crazy. I have tried it with skyfire is it true that the ie has flash support just not for all sites and does opera have some flash support? Basically I only ask because I want to go to streaming sites for movies sports etc. Thanks
The problem with flash and skyfire is its not optimized for mobile browsing. So its going to have issues. I hope the update the browser to what they released for android it doesnt actually play the video in the browser but does a popout window to play content which seems a lot better.
The crazy thing is i've seen people demo the skyfire browser on youtube and it worked perfectly crazy. Is there any other alternative to getting a better flash experience on our phone until Adobe officially releases full flash support? Mostly I'm trying to use sites like justin to watch programs and they all require flash.
i tried many ways to use skyfire, but still no well progress, its buffering rate is slow, whether u using wifi or 3g, it has a unique connection with the server, if that server is slow(having too much load) then ur browser gona be goofy.
I installed the official jk4 froyo this morning and neither winamp or xiialive can connect to any stations, I use this feature a lot and I'm very bummed right now.
Both apps can browse the station listings but cannot connect to the stream.
I've tried rebooting and it didn't help.
I have full signal, it's not like it times out slowly just instantly get an unable to connect message.
Could bell be blocking this?
Anyone else?
Neil
I gave this a try just to check for you, and it doesn't work on my jk4 either.
I've checked with logcat, and there doesn't seem to be a dicernable error, it just keeps sending playercode 14 (which I have no idea what it means).
I'd suggest contacting the winamp dev team, they may need to update the app.
It's not just winamp
"failed to play the requested stream" is the actual message, from searching it looks like it has something to do with the type of stream aac vs mp3 and it's not device or app specific.
hopefully a fix comes along soon.
Neil
I just tested it and I can stream fine over both wifi and 3G with JK4

I had this issue with TuneIn Radio when I first got jk3. I just reinstalled the app
and everything worked fine.
it's winamp
after a reboot if I start winamp first and then try other streaming apps non work, if I do a reboot and just use other streaming apps it works fine.
so I guess avoid winamp for now.

Anyone running the EB13 update having issues or success with Slacker via 3G?
Wifi is fine, Slacker error code on 3G. Data connection is fine, web, album art, etc. Reported to Slacker and waiting to hear back.
Thanks.
I used the Slacker app quite a bit today and had no problems over 3G. In fact, for the first time, I was able to switch to other apps without the program closing on me.
Well, either a fluke for about 45 mins or somehow GPS related? I had not enabled GPS since the udpate but enabled it just doing other stuff and then Slacker started working. Weird. Probably just a coincidence.
Since the update my 3g just picks and chooses when it'll work.. slacker, pandora, hey tell, sending picture mail and emails... driving me up a wall.. I've reflashed the cycle twice via odin, way lame...
I have verizon 3g mobile hot spot use HTC thunderbolt. My transformer will stream maybe 1-3 songs then just stop.I have to stop pandora exit then go back in to pandora to get it to start again. Second problem it will play ok but if I try to change songs or stations it will just say loading and never start back up. I ran some test trying it with my Ipad works perfect every time. I tested transformer on wifi worked about 90 percent of time. I have pandora version 1.5.6
Please help
anyone
Can someone help?

Know one has one suggestion?
I've had the same problem on the Evo 4g, whether on 3g, 4g, or Wifi, since around the time of your original post. Pandora support says it's a known issue and they're working on it. Wonder if Pandora One users have the same problem.....
