[Q] Error [140] Bootloader version error - Legend General

I'm trying to downgrade my phone, to either root or just to update (if my problems with rooting continue to exist - step2-windows.bat is giving me all sorts of different problems).
I've made a gold card (don't know if it is a working one - but the first error while trying to change rom is the one mentioned in the title).
I'm trying to update, then I get error 140 - bootloader version error. I did some research and there is a way just to change the number of version, so that I get no error. My question is what bootloader version should I put, so that the updates work as supposed to?
bootloader shows my current version of hboot as 0.43.0001.
Thank you in advance!

Please can someone help. I need a solutions for this too. Ta

I am so fed up with this bs I can't even describe it.
I am trying every way, read everything I can here and on modaco and still no answer.
Tried the methods with android SDK (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725430) and always get crwxrwxrwx 1 1001 2002 90, 0 Jul 19 16:19 /dev/mtd/mtd0) instead of the other one.
BTW what is a 'power cycle your phone'? It's not even restarting 5 times with me. It's restarting 4 times...
Is it my version of HBOOT or should I just throw this #$%^&* out of the window? I am using custom roms in my phones since forever, never had any problems until I started with Android.
It seems I'm stucked with my original 1.31 rom.
To sum up: none of the methods to root my phone seem to work - step 2 is not going as it should or with the other method nothing is going as it should.

impossible to root HELP ME PLEASE

To all devs out there ,im been trying to root the hero for a week now ,ive tried every guide going also the gold card with 10 different sd cards with no luck.the rom what ive got is the release 2.73.405.66 rom.it has the new nboot is thats why i cant flash.is there any way i can wipe all date and software so i will have nothing on the phone and then install an earlier rom, its just an idea as im starting to lose it with this fone.i hope someone can help me or do i have to wait for the official update from htc
with this rom version you need to create a goldcard and downgrade your rom before you can install a custom rom. if you have problems with the goldcard you should be more specific.
waiting for the update doesn't seem like the best idea, because it might take some until a security flaw is found that allows to root the rom when already installed on the phone. if you have the custom recovery image you will be able to install the (pre-rooted) update short time after it was released.
You should be able to use fastboot for this issue.
Search around the forums, (also http://hero.modaco.com) and read about it.
All you need is the fasboot tool, a usb cable and the "debugging mode" switched on at ur phone...
everytime i create the gold card and try to downgrade the rom it states boot error 140.i follow the guides very indepth i get the serial number from the sdcard than i reverse the string and then replace the first two numbers or letters with 2 zeros how can you tell when the goldcard is on the sdcard.when i replace the sdcard back in sdcard reader it states that the folder is empty.im quite clued up on winmo but android is giving me a headache
wouldn't the fastboot give you the "remote: not allowed" error?
anyway, you can try:
start your phone by holding back and pushing power, you should see three skating androids. put recovery image in the folder where your fastboot.exe is, open terminal and go to that folder and type:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.3.1.img
if that works report back.
for the goldcard i can't help, never did it.
at last im rooted thanks for for the help .the way i did
(with the phone in normal mode)
1) Connect your Hero via usb to your pc/mac/...
2) Open Command Prompt ->
Put in the following text ->

Thanks!

Getting exactly the same. Tried the goldcard method numerous times using 3 different cards and always get the bootloader 140 error. Tried the above with same errors... very frustrating!
Mine is a UK T-Mobile G2 with build number 2.73.110.26, any suggestions gratefully tried!
Edit: Finally managed to sort it. I was using "RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1_R3_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe" - this didnt work. Once I found and tried RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe it all clicked into place!
Thanks for all the info provided on these forums, cheers!

Hi
I have tried making a goldcard, and installed via. the RUU shown here.. 405.5 .. but then I tried using Flashrec to get another recovery image, it failed making the first step...
So is my phone rooted or did something go wrong ?

Very similar story. I did make a goldcard but hadn't got as far as finding out how to extract the update.zip out of the RUU exe, in order to use it. I tried running the RUU to see what would happen & my Hero downgraded.

I'm completely stumped, any help? (Eris 1.49 S-ON)

I'll elaborate on the title a little better.
I just recently rooted (successfully) my HTC Droid Eris, I've currently got a ROM of my original fresh rooted OTA software, I also have KaosFroyo v35 (I think it's 35, either 35 or 25).
For some reason or another, my bootloader is stuck on S-ON, and for the life of me I cannot find any way to get it off (that works). It's also 1.49.0000 as opposed to .2000.
I've still very new to the whole hacking ordeal, and it's not that I haven't searched the forums to find a solution to this problem, it's that because of the specific nature of my issue I'm bombarded with fixes and possible solutions to other things, many of which are completely useless to me. If anyone out there could help me shine some light on this situation, and maybe get my bootloader into S-OFF, I'd be forever grateful.
So you know, I'm wanting it in S-OFF so I can jailbreak my PS3. I keep getting an error while trying to boot files and research showed me it was due to my bootloader being on instead of off. Again, any help is greatly appreciated, and if anyone needs any additional information just ask and I'll get it.
Thanks so much for you time.

You'll want to follow the directions in this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725047
Kaosforo v-34,35 or 35-1 for this to work
For starters, make sure that you have the correct firmware on your ps3 prior to doing anything (firmware version 3.41) If you have firmware 3.42 or 3.50 installed your S.O.L. If you have 3.41 your good to go. You can check in the XMB of your ps3 by going to settings-->System Settings-->System Information and the first line will tell you your firmware.
Once confirmed go to this link http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/121597-how-install-engineering-bootloader.html and get your Eris to be rooted and S-off
Once confirmed that you have S-off of your rooted Eris (shut down your phone and while holding your volume down key boot your phone you will see on the top line either S-off or S-on) go to the Eris PS Groove wikki by clicking Here and follow the instructions from there and you should be all good to go
Good Luck
I got you kid it's very simple!!
Well 1st I have a thread on page 2 How to unroot your Eris if you are having problems with ruu's and other methods... In that I talk about a file called erisengspl.zip!!!! Give me your email address and I will email you the file, you flash it the same way you would flash a rom and thats it your phone is s=off!!!!! It takes 30 seconds!!!!! I promise you bro thats it, and your good!!!!
I wish I knew about that file before I got my phone to be s-off. I did it the "old fashion way"
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
Haha! That file works wonders. I couldn't get S-Off, flashed that file, and BOOM! One minute later I was riding the S-Off train.

Does ANYONE know of a fix for this yet????

I have a new streak on the 6601 build and am following the steps to move to 4399, 8105, and hopefully get to here. However, i have hit a major roadblock. When I try to flash to 4399 everything goes smoothly until the progress bar gets half way and then tells me my "Software is up to date: Rebooting in 30 seconds"
I am not new to flashing and was putting a new rom on the captivate every other day, so I'd like to think I'm good at following directions and reading the forums for help. I have found several other threads from the past months with the same problem, but no one ever posted a fix!!! I've tried every combo I can thing of, flashed different recovery's, tried skipping 4399 all together, tried using clockwork and changed the .pkg to a zip file. I've never had such a hard time getting past one thing while flashing. I'm hoping I'm just missing something really obvious and it's an easy fix, but can someone please help me!! I have read and re-read the directions and can't find anything I am missing
have you tried the official 2.2 romfiles at modaco ? flash from a pc .

Yeah I was going to but several posts say they are stuck at dell logo when trying to go straight to 2.2 from 1.6. I appreciate the idea though! I still may try it in a bit. Any other thoughts?

Problems with downgrading

I seem to have problems downgrading, i follow the process clearly and when i get to step 5 i get a $ instead of a #. This is confusing can someone please help me thanks.
You didn't mention your version. Is your version downgradable ?
Sorry about that my version is 2.36.161.12. I have also installed Goldcard still no luck as the $ keeps popping up when trying to downgrade instead of #
I used this to Downgrade my DesireHD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
and I used this to Root and S OFF +superCID etc etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#VERIFY_.28using_.22gfree_verify.22.29
In this downgrade guide there is no step5 so maybe its slightly different method, and in the rooting guide step 5 is the Gfree_verify section.
That is the guide i used, i will try it again by deleting everything and freshly downloading it all. And will post if i am successful or not. Thanks
Right after attempting again, this is the message i keep getting this error as posted below i have searched the message boards for answer most say to use goldcard which i have done and still this problem happens.
Seems as if i can't copy the image link since i don't have rights -.- but it is the '[-] sendmsg<> failed?' error
No worries guy's after constant trying it worked! downgraded it to 1.32!

Rooting HTC Desire Z (step-by-step)

Hi guys,
I'm an idiot. That's nothing new, but here it looks that I'm double one I tried to root my wife's HTC Desire Z, but without success. I tried to use CWM Super-Su v0.96, HTC Quick Root and few others. But I'm not able to do it.
Can you please explain me somebody step-by-step, what I have to download exactly, what to copy where, what to run, to do and so on.... For example HTC Quick Root - after initial reboot to recovery mode I had to run 1st option "phone reboot" or something like that, but before reboot that I received some error message regarding rights to folder structure....So I wasn't able to install Superuser or SuperSU. I also tried to run Superuser.apk but of cousre I have no rights to System/xbin to copy there su file...
Her Android ver is 2.3.3 , HTC Sense ver 2.1 , SW number: 2.42.405.4
PS: During this process I need my data untouched in the phone (pictures, contacts, SMS). I don't want to upgrade Android ver, I just need root access to install Titanium Backup and delete 90% of useless apps.
Thank you very much,
idiot Rado77 :cyclops:
PS: I'm adding answer also here. As you can see below, there are few ways how to do the same thing, but for example in my case worked only this way:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
Try this guide:

Thank you very much Marquin. I spent appr. 6 hours and read whole internet, but I couldn't root that crazy phone I used almost every type of rooting method, but I allways receive some error message regarding rights, or it repeatedly freezes on some concrete step... I don't underdstand because I sucessfuly rooted my Xperia U and LG P690 during 15 minutes. But this HTC really shocked me. I'm an idiot, I said that...
The only way to truley root your phone will be following the xda wiki, the cyanogen wiki, or strawmetals PDF guide. Don't use any other method or you will have issues, some could brick your phone some could just make things more difficult later.
You will need to downgrade first, yes this will wipe your phone. You can use apps like sms backup + to save call logs and messages, link account to google to store contacts, have pictures on sd so you don't loose them.

Ahaaaaaa, so it looks that downgrade is necessary part of root process. Thank you very much for info. I think that this could be the right way: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905261
When I was rooting my DZ I used that:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
for downgrading...
Finally I used pages on WIKI:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Firmware_Downgrade_(Gingerbread)
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Desire_Z:_Rooting
and I can say that rooting of this phone was the heaviest what I did  I had to chat with some guy named GUHL who helps me with whole process step-by-step, he checked outputs wiht error messages in my cmd and as final he gaves me the link with beautifull 2.3 Sense with available root.
Ufffff...that was really interesting way!
PS: I'll never root any HTC phone !!!!
Hey all!
I finally decided to root my phone after having it for about two years or so. I don't know why I never bothered, but decided to do so today. It was a bit of a hassle, even with the instructions that I found (the same ones I found in this thread), but I finally got it to work! I just flashed my first rom (Gen.Y VisionX R2 ) and so far I'm liking it, but I don't really know what's out there in terms of what I can do (customizing options, speed/performance, overclocking, and all that).
But anyways, great links in this thread
without downgrading to 2.2 Froyo, there's no way to Root desire z 2.3.3, if you are already on 2.2 and you can continue rooting procedure. make sure to follow the instructions correctly and (copy past the command do not type it>> IMPORTANT) :cowboy
Ahmedrzvi
Recently got my vision on 2.3.3 and already soff . Now I'm not sure what to do.
Which root method could be the best option now
The rooting page on XDA links to the PDFs that have step by step guides, but the tools that are used/referenced are no longer available for download. This is a step above the Cyan page which is just plain gone.
Can anyone point to currently active steps in rooting the phone? I have it downgraded, I just need to root it.

Im in a similar situation, bought a Desire Z from Ebay, already has bootloader unlocked and s-ff (was like this when I got it). Unfortunately, I upgraded to Gingerbread before I realised this was an issue with rooting.
Have tried a few different guides, but it appears as though the fr3yo file is no longer available.
thank you im rooted
Hi.
I purchase desire z from ebay. From the first time i have some issues with the phone. Touchscreen was pressing by itself etc. I asked for help and told me that was digitizer fault. Before that i thought that may be they didn't flash the ROM corectly so i returned to stock froyo but i don't think i'm rooted.
I gave it for repair and after some days they gave me the phone back and told me that it is ok. To tell you then truth the problem it wasn't so intense so take it from there. I turn it on, played al little and turn it of. I made a charge for 5 hours. After that device turn on, go to menu and after some seconds reboot and reboot and reboot.
I have tried to install CWM with this method but i can't. At first step says "sending file" but after i got message "failed"
I know here are the most experienced guys that will try to suggest me a solution before sell it for parts.
Thank you very much
Antonis
Changing ROM
Hello,
I rooted my DZ a few weeks ago, without any issue; I did everything which was mentioned in the instructions, so I suppose I have S-off, rooting, and whatever. Of course I don't remember anything at all.
Now I'd like to change ROM, mainly because, in spite of using CM 7.2, which is widely recognized as one of the fastest, I am having several issues with performance. I read around that a "superwipe" may be useful, yet I don't remember having done it last time. So, my question is: what are the steps I should perform? I should maybe mention that I have ClockworkMod Recovery 3.0.2.4 installed.
I hope this is a correct 3D to post into, if it isn't please take into account that I am new in this forum
