When I create a backup and try to restore it I get the error that the md5 sum is incorrect our doesn't match. What causes this?
Sent from my HTC Ice Glacier using XDA App
I have had a couple Nadroids corrupted from this. I noticed it was only happening when i Initiate the backup through Rom manager. I reflashed recovery real quick in Rom manager, now all I do is manually boot whenever do ANYTHING in CW. I have not had an issue since.
So go into recovery and not in the actual app to make the backup?

Exactly... I gave up on ROM Manager. I only have to Re-Flash CW if needs. Whether I am flashing, wiping caches, or backing up I use CW manually. I have not had anymore issues with corruption or boot loops. Plus since the Optical trackpad works in CW it makes it easy. LOL
I (From Phone Off Or Course) Hold VOL DWN and POWER, HBOOT loads, Hit Recovery and I am in CW. After that you have full control to do anything you want. BTW... If you didn't know the Wipe for Battery Stats for the Conditioning and the Dalvik Cache are under Advanced.. Took me awhile to find them.
I had this issue, but I just re flashed from within clockwork, then it worked fine...just had an issue with the recovery that was on there not completing installations or backups

Ok great. Thanks!i did that and the backup its good to go.

Sorry, I am stuck and not sure what to do. I have s-off. Every ROM that I flash using clockworkmod I keep getting a boot loop. I revert to stock ROm and I am fine. There is something I am missing, but what?
Any ideas?
Are u trying to flash a gingerbread rom?

No, I haven't tried any of the gingerbread stuff.
Are you doing a wipe?

Yes, I have done a full wipe. I can go into terminal emulator and su and get #. I thought I was good enough with rooting. I have rooted my evo and didn't have this much trouble.
Have you tried a clear to default type wipe? Like factory reset then flash? When I tried to go from ice glacier to cm I got bootloop till I factory reset.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
ok, So, I did a full wipe. Then I restarted and did a factory reset. Then, I flashed evils 4g hd port. Then, I did another full wipe.
It just sits at he HTC quietly brilliant screen and loops every 30 secs or so. I just don't know what to do.
I permrooted, and flashed cwm3.0.0.5 and flashed cm 7 build 23 on my glacier. It didn't work and would not boot post the animation, the animation kept looping. So I flashed the stock system since it would not restore my backups and did a factory reset. Now I have no recovery. I rerooted up to the s-on part (can't find the root file for s-off) installed rom manager and that says I successfully flashed a new recovery. I tried this with earlier versions of clockwork and each time I'm greeted with a black screen, and red triangle/exclamation point. How do I get my recovery back?

It isn't possible to install clockwork recovery unless you are s=off, so you will need to do that before you can get cw to install.

You can search for anyone of the "how to root" threads in the development section.
But to answer your question.... here is the link.

Ok, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but cm7 will not boot. The boot animation keeps looping. I let it run for about 10 min before trying again and same thing. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone help?

Cm7 build 25 as of today, but I have tried since build 23. I have the latest cwm from rom manager, but I have also tried with cwm 3.0.0.5. No error messages.

try with build 26 (newly released), use CWM 3.0.0.5, and make sure to wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. Let me know if that works, or what happens.

Had my X for a week now. It is rooted and running DarkSlideBlur 4.2, I have several other ROM's I am wanting to try out......
If I understand what I have been reading right, I can use Nandroid Backups to return to ROM's I like, or is it better to reflash them?
Trying to avoid the whole setup process....
Thanks in advance
Mace
A nandroid would be the route to go. It restores your phone to the exact state it was when you backed it up. Every call text message everything will be as it was.
Nandroid all the way. Works every time

As already stated, a nandroid is a best bet. Just keep in mind if you do any updates (OTA) and the radio gets updated (i.e. 2.3.15 to 2.3.340) an old nandroid will brick your phone due to an older bootloader
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Thanks guys! I thought that was the case, as I have been all over these forums "researching" for a couple months before I got the X!
Now off to research "Radio"?? (thats a new one to me)
But what if you mount your system and get stuck in the bootup. i cant even get to the recovery. i dont know what to do.
Nandroid always has your back. Something gets screwed and you are stuck in a boot loop, plug in the usb or charger, pull the battery, put it in and boot up. That will hijack back into Clockwork.
Always Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache/Advanced/Wipe Dalvik before you flash a new ROM and you "almost" always avoid a boot loop.

that is clockwork recovery, the stock recovery is accessed with a combination of hard keys which i am not sure which they are off the top of my head. in that you can wipe, but unfortunately no nandroid restore.
I tried every rom out there. The fastest most stable best battery life is stock. Deodexed stock. You can theme and font.

The hard keys are volume down and camera button if you wanted to know
Thats to get to the bootloader. Recovery is home and power and hold on until it comes up. To get into safe mode you hold power and the menu button

i backed up my samsung epic 4g 2.2.1 ec05 with rom manager.
it bricked so i flashed the stock (2.1)
i rerooted and i tried to restore the backup in rom manager but its not working. i tried reboot into recovery and i tried restore. it keeps rebooting to the regular system recovery (only options are rebbot now, apply sdcard update.zip[which doesnt work], wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition) and not the clockworkmod recovery which ive seen before. what to do??
ODIN your phone.

This. ROM Manager is useless and its CWM versions will hose your phone. Do not use either.

Chances are that when you backed up with Rom manager it did not actually do a backup. On a phone where Rom manager does work the backup function in Rom manager just reboots your phone into clockwork and starts the backup automatically for you. Since Rom manager does not work with the epic, I'm assuming this did not happen.

The alternative is that one you have clockwork installed, power down the phone. Then hold volume down, camera button, and power button all at the same time. It d should boot into clockwork. Make and restore your backups from there.

So I rooted and switched ROM's many times on my MT3g, and now that i'm trying it on my MT4g, I'm having hella trouble.
So I got to S=off and its perarooted now, with ClockworkMod Recovery image: 3.0.2.4. I tried to update the Kernel to KB-Kernel-2.4.8-108-CFS-SV... put my phone with the stock ROM into a boot loop, so i restored it. Tried to update the Kernel then immediately install CM-7.0.0... again put it into a boot loop, and had to restore. What am i missing here? Should be partitioning like with my MT3g? Should i be wiping? Is there something else I should be installing?

That's your problem. You can't flash a kernel before the ROM, because the ROM's standard kernel immediately overwrites it. Try wiping all 3 items in the recovery menu, flash CM7, and then let it boot. Once CM7 is stable, try flashing your kernel. Just make sure it is compatible.
Sweet, thanks. Hopefully it works.

It will work.
1. Flash Rom
2. Wait 5 mins so everything loads
3. Reboot into recovery
4. Wipe cache then in advanced...wipe davlik cache
5. Select zip from sd card and flash new kernel
Follow this and you will be good to go everytime! Happy flashing!

Wipe factory data
Wipe catche
Then go into advanced wipe dalvik
Should take 30 secs max to wipe, 5 mins max to install and reboot
Then flash your Rom and reboot. Once its rebooted then try flashing the kernel. There is no reason that won't work assuming you do have s-off

If what Mark said doesn't work, I'd look to a corrupt recovery image, or more likely a bad download or SD card.
Aww... I'd be hella sad if I had a bad sdcard. My problem was that I wasn't wiping the correct things, but now thanks to you great people I finally can flash again! Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Glad you got it working. If Mark or I have helped you, maybe you could hit the thanks button.
Make sure when you do a kernel you wipe cache and than davlvik and than flash the first time kernel and than repeat the process and than flash your desired kernel.
