How can I get into odin3
Make sure you have the fascinate drivers.
Pull the battery.
Connect phone via USB to your computer.
Hold volume down button then press power.
That should boot it into download (Odin) mode

It works on my phone. But not on this phone. Is there any other way?
Thanks
Only other way, that I am aware of, is to boot holding the volume down button with the battery in then connect to USB after the downloader launches.
Did your friend possibly install CWM? If so try holding both volume buttons down and going through Clock Work Mod.
Sent from my SCH-I500-Fascinate using XDA App
Also if you can boot using the second method but don't have CWM installed you can possibly add another ROM named update.zip to the root of the sdcard and use the standard recovery launcher.
This information may be innacurate I come more from Palm Pre tweaking, but I believe that's what I read.

I have never seen a Galaxy S phone not be able to get to download mode.. but I think I've only seen one other person dumb enough to flash a Capitvate rom / kernel onto a Fascinate..
That being said, if removing the battery (don't put it back in), plugging in USB and holding volume-down doesn't bring up download mode, you're screwed. The phone obviously needs to be made inoperable before returning. An easy way to do that would be to disconnect the cable to the screen. Alternatively, and much more dangerously, you could microwave if for a few seconds at a time until it dies.

Are you serious?
Inoperable would be a last ditch effort in my opinion. Mistakes happen. These are the kind of mistakes that not only the OP and his friend learn from but also the community as a whole. If we can get him through this we also learn how to help others that make similar mistakes.
Modding / hacking whatever you wish to call it comes down to learning. We learn what works and what doesn't and we try to help others not make those mistakes. I prefer to try everything before nuking a phone that can be recovered.

Thanks. I hope there is other way to flash it.
Keep trying holding both volume buttons down while powering up. If you can get into the default recovery or the download interface this can be corrected.

To be honest, you cant fix it.
You can get it to boot once again if you can ever get it back into DL mode, but the phone wont work again. Not until we get a leak for a complete odin package, and that isnt gonna happen anytime soon.
I posted on my odin thread and pretty much any other thread i have done that you should not flash any other galaxy s device's firmware to the fascinate, they are not interchangeable like that. I hope he has insurance on his phone.

I flashed the DI18 update back in November to get one the early Froyo builds. It's worked great for a while, but so many better roms and been released since. So I tried to reboot into bootloader mode tonight to use heimdall to flash the DK28 modem to get some newer roms. No dice. Using the keyboard 1 + power button just results in a normal boot. If I connect via adb and run "adb reboot-bootloader" or "adb reboot bootloader" the same thing happens, just a normal reboot, end up back at the normal home screen.
Anyone have any other ideas or is my phone borked now?
1 and power boots you into Download mode. To get to recovery you need to power up by holding 'down volume', 'camera', and 'power'. If that doesn't boot you into Clockwork, then you need to consider flashing with Odin, which you should probably do anyway since you need to flash to the DK28 modem as well

P.s. DI18 isn't froyo, that's still eclair

1 + power doesn't boot me into download mode unfortunately. I can boot into Clockwork just fine. Unfortunately, I'm running Linux so I can't use Odin easily. Either way I don't think it will be able to flash it from device/recovery mode.

When you did DI18 did you use Odin and one of the "Return to Stock" set of files? I think you are fine. Those return to stock files wipe out the clockwork recovery. Just try the "One Click" thread which is a sticky at the top of this forum. That should get you clockwork back. As said above, though, you'll probably want to Odin to DK28. You will need to be able to hold 1 and power up, but mine often fails on the first try or too. Good luck, and I think you're in fine shape, so don't worry. I haven't had a problem yet that Odin couldn't fix, and I've caused a lot of problems on my phone.
EDIT: Just saw your post that came in the same time as mine. I think your best bet is to borrow a friend's PC and Odin back to stock, then go from there.

Dude, the issue is not clockwork. It's his inability to get into download mode. So he cannot use heimdall or odin without getting into download mode.
To the OP why not try noobnl's zip to flash dk28 modem and stock dk28 rom with a couple extras. Maybe that will provide download mode for you.

Does someone have a link that item? I've seen lots of people reference this, but have yet to actually find a working link. The wiki doesn't seem to have anything about it, but I assume I've just missed it somewhere.

Yes, that is the one. I would flash the modem first if I was you, it may not make a difference but it seems prudent to do so.
Please post questions in General Section.
Thanks everyone, I ended up rebooting to recovery mode and resetting everything. Re-installed clockwork rom manager and flashing this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861341 but it couldn't connect to the Sprint network afterwards. I flashed the modem update and it seems to be working.
For whatever reason, I still can't get into bootloader mode at all. 1 + power goes to normal boot up. adb reboot does the same thing.
I just activated my girlfriend's phone and immediately it prompted for update, so I did. To my surprise it was not DL09, but instead EA28. So after some google searches I found this:
http://phandroid.com/2011/02/03/samsung-fascinates-ea28-update-coming-to-fix-emergency-calling-bug/
The site is basically right, they repackaged dl09 with the emergency calling bugfix and pushed it out with a new build number.
just got mine... I'm gonna have a seizure in a public place to test it out.

One Click root works just fine! Just completed root!
I believe I was able to root successfully but when I try to flash ClockwordMod, it doesn't seem to be working. ROM manager says its flashed and has the latest version, but when I boot into recovery it is definitely not ClockwordMod. I cannot do backups or choose a file from SD to install.

When you flash a new ROM it overwrites CWM, so you'll have to re-install it with Odin.

Update broke my phone!
I just saw a screen forcing the update upon my phone. I clicked "OK" but when the EA28 update installed itself on my phone, it locked my phone into a cycle of trying to install it again and again. The baseband version shows S:i500.04 V.EA28, the Build number shows SCH-I500.EA28, but the update keeps trying to install the update. It gives a Prompt to Install-Reboots Phone-Prompt to Install-Reboot Phone... I managed to get it to stop for a little while by scheduling a deferral of the update until tomorrow. Does anyone know how I can keep the update from trying to install?
Yeah I just went to ask if there is an update and it said yes. Afraid to update because who knows if it'll break root....

Why suggest people to mess with pit in odin? You do NOT need to do this. Geez, people make this mistake enough on their own. Pda, choose file, press start... thats it.

I managed to get my phone to stop rebooting every 3 minutes by ending the InnoPath Active Care process and clearing the cache. But when I woke up this morning, the phone was at the emergency recovery screen. It went into a cycle of rebooting that made it as far as media scanner. I got it to stop rebooting by turning ON wifi (I suppose that's because Active Care needs WiFi off to do an OTA). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this "Feature" that is rebooting my phone?
You tried pulling the battery (soft reset) i presume? After that theres factory rest, then odin back to stock

Ive been trying to fix the sound issue as mentioned in my other thread... anyways here is the problem i have now:
I had the Trigger 2.2Final rom installed... used Rom manager to flash the Trigger 2.3.5 rom (gingerbread). This did not fix my problem, and has actually been far to buggy on my phone so i want to go back to the froyo Trigger 2.2 rom i had before.
I tried flashing the 2.2 rom in Rom manager but its a no go. How do i go downgrade back to 2.2?!?
follow ALL instructions, to flash back to 2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475
after flashing, you can upgrade to 2.2 by kies if you want, or you can flash an 2.2 rom through odin. but i recomend do as this topic, back to 2.1 and so upgrade
I wouldn't use kies to upgrade. It has a history of turning your phone into a paperweight

yes, but with this specific rom, you will get no problem at all. did this more than 10 times already, including one 10 min ago, back from cm7 to 2.1, and 2.2 through kies
Just Odin back to 2.1 then flash a 2.2

My Samsung Epic 4G has the EE03 modem installed, but I have EC05 as my current firmware. I can't Odin back anywhere because my Epic does not like to be recognized by any computer anymore. (I'm not using the factory-provided charging cable, but instead a Palm Pre cable)
I thought it wasn't too huge of a deal, but the newer modem and older firmware don't seem to like each other much, which in turn eats the phone's battery up extremely fast.
As well, because of the difference, there's a recommended Android OS update to EI22 that keeps nagging me and won't go away. Every time I run it, it gets to the part "updating modem," the installation fails with the following message:
"script aborted (no error message)E:Error in /cache/a5ff039a0c97.SPH-D700_update_EC05_to_EI22.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted.
Because I can't use Odin, what's the best option for fixing something like this?
I had a similar problem where I was stuck on a modem I didn't want.. there is no way possible to fix this I believe.. cuz u would have to switch modems and that won't happen without odin.. if u were on ec05 modem then u could have jjust flash ec05 to ei22 but there's no way to change ur modem without a computer
If ur sure the usb it working and u tried cleaning the outside of ur phones usb slot and it still didn't work then the best thing I can tell you to try Is probably to backup whatever current setting you have and to flash a ee03 compatible rom.. I think ee03 was a gb leak?? So I think an eh17 rom would go well with it? If so I would try thunderhawk its an amazing rom
But I'm no professional so id probably just wait now and see if anyone with more experience agrees on what I say or would have a better idea for you

Lil is correct you will need to get Odin or Heimdall working. Heimdall installs its own drivers so you have the best shot with that and a new heavy duty cable.

Koshi, take a clean unused toothbrush, take the end of the data cable that plugs into ur phone, and carefully brush the end inside. Do the same thing with the usb port of ur phone. Then blow into both parts, and try connecting to ur pc again.

You could also try the ec05 revert cmw flashable zip. I had some issues when I had the usb mass storage installed. Then I couldn't get adb bridge installed propper so download mode wouldn't connect.
Uninstall your drivers, revert to ec05, install drivers and reboot, connect phone as storage, then dissconect, turn on adb and reconnect, when done disconnect and turn on dl mode and connect again, disconnect, load and run odin, reconnect in dl mode, and pray for a com port to come up.
Easy enuff to go back with a cmw backup if it doesn't work, might be worth a try.
Here's the thread 4 ya

I had an issue after taking my epic into be serviced one time where the computer would no longer recognize it. Turns out they switched a setting in one of the dialer menus I believe it was ##7887# and then you had to switch it to or out of modem mode. Sorry I am not much more help but I am cm7 now and can't access those hidden menus now but if someone else could read this perhaps they could clear up my haziness on this and give you some proper instructions to check if you are in the right mode.

Try the "Odin for Dummies" method. Use the Samsung EB13 tool which will reinstall all drivers for your computer to recognize your phone, walk you through the process of installing EB13 (it will wipe your phone completely) and put you on EB13 which you will then OTA to EC05 and OTA again to EI22. Here are the DL links:
http://www.multiupload.com/69YUW73XFB
I use the tool sometimes because I think it is actually safer than using Odin because you won't make any mistakes, like check marking the wrong options or using the wrong files in Odin, since the tool does everything for you.
