[Q] Does my backup from clockwork include the modem? - Epic 4G General

Just wondering if my backup using clockwork backs up the modem? Thanks

No the modem is not included.

What about kernel?

No, the kernel and modem reside on their own partitions and are unaffected by system and data backups and restores.

Good to know. Thanks so much

[Q] Restore

Hello!
I've tried to flash 2.2 on my Epic 4. Everything did like it was supposed to be only problem is I didn't like it. So, I'm doing the restore from my previous Backup.
Do I need to wipe it before restore? I'm asking because I did once without wipe and it is not booting. Doing some sound and showing me Samsung.com. Nothing else.
Please, help me guys.
Thank you!
I think you are ging to have to odin back to 2.1 then restore. I could be wrong.

You are correct. Nandroid does not back up your kernal or modem so you will have to odin both of those. Here is a link to the instructions:
Flash to stock
Thank you! You are a savior.

Np man, I had the same thing happen to me first time I tried flashing dk28. Tried booting a backup and got to just where you are hehe
One more question.
If I want to flash just modem (dk28 as example) and then flash some custom rom what files I need for it? I mean just for a DK28 modem? Can you give me right link for it? There is so many and I got lost.
once you have the dk28 modem flashed you can flash any froyo rom you want. just make sure it isn't a rom with ext4 unless you do that whole process.

Anyway to make a rom safestrap compatible?

I'm not having much luck finding a rom I like, that I can flash with safestrap. I thought I found a good version of CM, but after it successfully flashed, it wouldn't boot into it.
So i was wondering if there is anyway to somehow convert a rom to use with safestrap

I haven't tried this out, but look at post #6 in this thread: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/25768-locked-bootloader-412-with-safestrap-options/

Thats how to try to get CM10 to work. I want to know if there's a way to make any rom safestrap compatible, like carbon, or pacman

They all have a boot.img, so it will be the same.

So twrp backups (or cwmr but what about the blobs?-another topic.) might be an easier path for SS evaluation of a particular rom - just restore system & the locked boot is left by default.

Yeah, theoretically you could only restore system and data from a TWRP backup. However, if he still has a locked bootloader, he wouldn't be able to flash a ROM to make a backup in the first place. If had one previously, it might work.

Got it. So all us "unlocker's" can post BUs of twrp systems for locked users?
Doable?

In all honesty, it might work. I would try it out, before loading up something, but it just might be doable.

It wouldn't hurt you to thank him for the link.

I am thankful for the help. I didn't realize he was saying it could be applicable to other roms.
So much for my vision! Seems the kernel is the sticky wicket of the system that borks it for locked phone.

i recall Tim posting a method to convert a SS ROM to TWRP/CWM flashable, but not sure on the performing the reverse.
might be worth looking into though: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/16516-fix-for-all-stock-roms-to-be-installed-with-twrpcwm/

Dead horse!
The system of a twrp bu has the kernel in it but the portion that has the kernel cannot be altered on a lock phone.
They cannot even restore something very stock like my DD which is a twrp bu not a ROM.

Clean ROM on Canadian Variant? D803?

Was wondering if it's possible to flash the Clean rom to the Canadian Variant of the LG G2 which is the D803
Yes. Just delete boot.img from the zip file. Instructions are in the clean ROM thread.

Do you know if the Rogers D803 will work?
Be careful, Nandroid/TWRP backup your stock Rom since there are no zip files of our D803 roms yet available and the kdz method doesn't work.
But then, just remove boot.img from the CleanRom zip and you are good to flash. It will say failed (because boot.img is missing) but it will work fine.
