Froyo on Stock Vibrant, what might we expect?

I'm guessing that a good handful of us enjoy using our Vibe's in stock config, and only wish for "good" performance with less instance of lags, burps etc. We drool over the idea of rooting, applying OCLF and such things, but don't want to risk a blowout! IE, "Add another brick to the pile".
Myself, I'm choosing to wait for the Froyo update - before committing to a root/lag fix attempt.
Can we have sum input on what might be anticipated with the 2.2 update a far as performance for the Vibe? Has NE1 managed to put Froyo on a stock Vibrant - if so, I venture that an "In House" eval would be appreciated by many
Running froyo right now. There was just an unofficial leak of the tmo froyo for our vibes, and the fixes are being ported to existing roms, and being used as source for new builds as well. Its here, and its frozen goodness. A little research (ok maybe not a little, know what youre doing before you do it, make sure you can get into recovery and dl mode, and read read read) before you flash, and soft bricks can be either avoided or easily recovered from. Check out the Vibrant Android Dev forum here at xda to see your icy opions. I prefer Eugene's Macnut myself, there are a couple of other flavors currently that are nice in their own ways, but you gotta try em to find out.
Performance wise, the stock tmo froyo leak itself is faster and smoother than eclair running oc with any lag fix in my experience. The custom froyo roms (macnut and such) are even faster, with no lag fixes applied or existing ones disabled.

I used to be all about rooting. Had a Hero when it first came out for Sprint. Loved flashing new ROMs and what not. Had CM6 on it before I jumped ship to T-Mobile and the Vibrant. I had rooted but always ended up going back to stock ROM because I like the way it looks and with launcherpro it seems to run better than Touchwiz. Ive yet to find a ROM on here that I really like. I Odined back to stock for the JI6 and Have been running it ever since.
I will probably re-root when the official 2.2 comes out but Im playing the waiting game on these leaked ROMs.
As far as the leaked 2.2 roms go, I'd have to say that I am currently running onyx by teamwhiskey, and it is awesome! It has a lot of fixes but still feels very much like stock.
You should give that a try, oh and don't worry about bricking your phone, odin is your friend and the anti-bricker!

Oynx is fugly, and JK2 is a bit too buggy and unrefined in general. It's OK if you want to try it but you'll probably go back to the smoothness of JI6. Apps install better with FroYo but the phone lags badly with any launcher for some reason. I'm waiting for the official release. I also got some odd "No Internet Connection" errors but that might be my fault.

Everyone's experience is different, and everyone's tastes are different too.
So far, it's been a smooth sailing with Onyx for me after SD_Fix.zip was applied.
FROYO goodness on my Vibrant, loving it!

Macnut R10, not entirely jk2 based but drivers to fix the gps and data issues ere ported over, not sure what else was, is not buggy at all. Running the zeam launcher, no lag. Its honestly the most stable froyo out right now, ive tried them all. Earlier ones were definitely buggy, but the new leaked files fixed all that on my phone.

Try the ASOP ROM from Anderdroid yet? I'm running that one and it's very smooth and responsive. It looks very clean in my opinion.

i take it you don't use wifi calling then? in macnut r10, wifi calling gets stuck at enabling (which is one of the reported problems in that thread).
OP: I have the ODIN froyo running on my vibrant right now. It's nice and smooth for me (and will be for you too if you haven't been running lagfixes in 2.1). I get nice battery, and nice reception. a plus for me, is i can turn off data (since i don't have a data plan) and not use battery constantly trying to communicate with 3g/edge.
The only thing i notice on 2.2, is the occasional lag. but that's about it.
Is there a limitation when installing apps? When I was trying ROM's last night and installed apps, it seemed like I was limited to about 3 app download/install at a time?

Nope, I do not use wifi calling. Seeing how that is new to the phone, I woud expect it to be buggy. The next release from Eugene shoud be based on jk2, might fix that problem. We can't really expect the new fuctions from tmo to be perfect until we get an official release.

[Q] downgrade to d18 to to take in to sprint?

Ok, so when dk28 first came out, I got it from googles servers. I want to take my phone into sprint to exchange, having some battery issues and other problems not related to the known issues of dk28. My phone is not rooted as far as I know, running unmodified stock dk28 rom. Do I need to use odin and put my phon back to d18 before I bring it in, or does it not matter?
Don't want them blaming dk28 for my issues.
It would probably be your best bet but probably half of the sprint employees wouldn't even know what rom you are on. I would just to be on the safe side. Like you said they could blame that on your problems.
Def take the dk28 off first. If they have to use any dialer codes or such from tech support the menus won't be the same. Taken that you get an employee that knows nothing they will probably figure out your on froyo and that will end your support. Use mybackuppro if you want to be able to restore froyo over 2.1.

Thanks for the heads up, I put d18 back on, and when I brought it in, they specifically asked if I had rooted it or installed any custom roms, much to my surprise. All is we'll ad I have a new epic, just put dk28 back on.
I didn't see any other threads on the topic, I searched before I created, so I hope this might be able to help somebody else down the road. Thanks again xda community, you all rock.

Want to go back to stock

Im currently running Bionix, rooted, etc. The only benefit that I've seen is the tethering option. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into dev-ing, but this isnt something I want any longer. I want to take my Vibrant back to stock, preferably running stock Froyo. Is there a tutorial to get this done? I tried searching the forums, but to no avail.
odin then use mini skies to get froyo
Check out the Vibrant Bible for how to guides:
Vibrant Bible
search for the stock ka6 rom (pretty sure there are odin and cwm versions) and install it.
Before you abandon ship, maybe try another rom. I didnt have good fortune with Bionix... I'm in heaven with Trigger. Not trying to sale something here, but its leaps and bounds better than stock froyo... and now that source is out, the development on froyo is going to jump tremendously. I wouldnt jump ship man.
If he doesnt see a speed increase or a better gps lock speed there is no point in him staying on a custom rom. Bionix has been the best for me even though I do enjoy trigger and flagship.
I am fascinated and captivated by the vibrant screen on my epic galaxy s.
Go here: http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/, to flash your phone back to stock, this will bring the phone to exactly the way it was sold by T-Mobile (Eclair).
Then, go here: http://www.capfaq.com/w/Kies_Mini, to download Kies Mini which is Samsung app that will let you upgrade to stock Froyo.
Cheers!
Looks like you're rooted because of Bionix so use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=923456&highlight=ka7 instead. It's CWM flashable. Stock ROM w/o voodoo.
I'm personally using it right now with supercurio's stuff on it though.

You could have had tethering running stock with Touchwiz. I am surprised that you didn't find the 2.2 features and other upgrades in Bionix to your liking.
Things like
-Assigning different rings to different contacts without having to create the contact on the phone
-Voice actions
-A calendar that actually syncs properly
To each their own, i guess.

Froyo OTA Update has screwed up my Fascinate

Headache after headache after headache since I got the Froyo OTA.
Lots of freezes causing me to pull the battery several times a day. Also the battery power drains so quick I can't even come up with a comparison. Then don't get me started the 3G going down all the time...this is f***ing ridiculous. I did root it but I have seen no change. I have even disabled the bloatware...anyone have any suggestions for me.
Much thanks in advance,
Doc
You can try odining back to DL09 or whatever, re-update OTA, and see if the problem happens again...
If not, I would just leave it stock and return it to verizon with the 1 year warranty
Ive had the same issue! I rerooted and flashed evil fascination and I am not having hardly any problems. Ive had a few forcecloses but nothing like what came with stock froyo
My girlfriend is having the same issue after i MADE her update to the OTA 2.2. Text messages dont get sent and it is very laggy. The whole phone is too slow to use so i plan on flashing a custom rom or going back to 2.1 with odin. What roms are pretty similar to stock that maintain that whole touchwiz feel?
Sent from my Galaxy Tab using XDA App
Did you perform a factory reset? That seemed to fix a few problems.
For starters, this is common. The stock Froyo update screwed a lot of people up. Next, simply rooting it doesn't *FIX* anything, all it does is give you the ability to run Apps as Administrator, giving you more power/control. So, you rooted it, that wasn't going to fix your issues. Flash a custom ROM. I personally recommend the Community ROM. If after flashing a different ROM, after wiping Cache, Dalvik Cache, and user data, etc. you still encounter the same issues, then yes, I'd exchange it.

Common? Really?
About the same time as the ota froyo was released, verizon had a bunch of 3g & 4g data issues on their network (perhaps it was shortly thereafter).
Otherwise, I see as many posts about the surprisingly good performance of the current stock rom as I see reports of issues.
No offence to the op, but we have no idea how these rooted phones have been messed with before the complaints are conveyed...
So I agree with the suggestion to odin back to a stock pit/modem/kernel/rom and let the ota process repeat from a clean start. From that result, flash a solid voodoo kernel, enable lag fix, pick your favorite rom, etc...

I am currently running the ota 2.2 froyo update...only thing I have done is root and debloat and the phone is very fast! Only issue I have is google voice search force closes.
I think the update is fast... but despite what rom I use there is still intermittent gps issues, voice and data issues even on the first warranty replacement. Dropped calls in solids 4 bar territory on stock or dev roms and 3g fading un and out even after the dmu fix. All issues never had before the update.
Waiting on a call to see if I can get a better replacement option. No interest in Palm, BB or the Dinc Droid Pro or DX they want me to take as a replacement.
Out of the DInc2 Charge and TBolt which is the best options in my fellow forum friends minds. Have my own looking for outside opinions to consider depending on the options I am offered.

Download the app "gps booster". Seem to fix my gps issue... locks in quick and within 10ft. As far as the signal issue, I had the same thing until I replaced the stock battery cover. have yet to drop any calls and my 3g is alot better now! I am absolutely impressed with this phone since doing these little "tweaks"! O and I vote droid charge if your dead set on a replacement! Seems to have better battery and display over the other two.

I stated nothing about the the OP's 3G outtage, any of us who are techy-like at all or who pay attention know what that was about. I was referring to their other issues. And I agree, MANY people have great performance after updating to stock 2.2, while many others are also getting screwed up. It's just one of those things. The OP wasn't one of the lucky, so, either Odin back and try the update again, or go custom ROM.
Well I have a couple DInc2s coming next week.
Really have to send the love to all the Devs who have made the Fascinate fascinating. Just can't wait on Sammy and VZW to get the tools in the hands of the devs to make the most of these phones.
Almost went TBolt but don't want to extend the contract until there are more 4g phones out there.
Wife is excited about FFC so happy wife will be good for me
Would have preferred to stick with the Fascinate but a couple replacements later and even the great roms and kernels couldn't get it to where it should be. Here's hoping that good source drips for everyone soon.
So for free and no contract extension I'll check out HTC...

I did OTA Froyo update on a stock fascinate and my battery also began draining rapidly, about 8-10 hour life in standby I finally figured out that it was the built in facebook sync that was doing it, I had earlier turned off all syncing then noticed fb synced new events to my calendar after that so I completely removed my fb account and now its back to the ~2days of battery life with light use I had with 2.1. Not sure if this is what everyone else is experiencing with battery life problems but its worth a shot. I haven't tried putting my fb account back up to see if it happens again, I'm going to wait until I get around to rooting to do that.
I swear I had these issues with 3g data out completely. This fixed it in 3 minutes. ESN Swap to repartition data. No BS need for another phone.
http://totalhack.ws/esnswap.html
Hope this helps.
Well... Been using the DInc2 for over a day now... Short time but very evident that there is a major issue post update on the Fascinate. Right back to the great download and upload speeds I had pre ed01. No ATT like dropped calls, etc.
Without voodoo quadrant scores on stock in the 1400 - 1600 range consistently.
Just a huge thanks to all our awesome Fascinate developersfor making it a great phone while I had it.
Hope the DInc2 developers are as committed and talented as this team. Right now they are working on getting perma root....

"Charging paused. Battery temperature too high or too low

I was talking to my daughter on the phone tonight and she got the following message on her phone
"Charging paused. Battery temperature too high or too low"
Unfortunately I don't have the phone with me to inspect it further until tomorrow
The phone is rooted and running EF02
I just got it at the beginning of last month brand new phone and battery
30 days are almost up in a couple more days
I need to decide if i'm going to odin back to stock and return it or ask for a new one
I searched in the epic forums here and didn't find a thread on this exact subject
I am just worried that this could be potentially dangerous. It's obviously a safety feature so something definately isn't right. I realize there are tons of battery issues for this phone.
If anyone else has experienced this or has a solution please let me know
I will give more details tomorrow when I inspect the phone

I have never seen this once.
Obviously something isn't right.
Her old phone was a Vibrant and I had a Nexus S as my last phone and neither one have ever seen this message and trust me I used the hell out of my nexus and felt it get so hot that it almost would burn you I even thought the screen might crack.
Point is I'm not a noob and I am looking for a real answer not some douche answer.
I personally will never buy a samsung phone again for myself but my daughter loved her vibrant so I told her I would get here pretty much the same phone.
It can't be that common because I didn't see any other posts about this for it being such an old device.
If stability and everything working are your main goals, I would use one of the great EC05 releases that are on here. The Gingerbread ROMs are great but there are still some kinks to be worked out. I use the Gingerbread ROMs some and test for developers and themers frequently but Froyo is still my daily use ROM. The purple CWM 3.1.0.1 makes it easy to switch between the two.

Its a feature on the epic that like you said isn't that common among high-end smartphones lately...I think I rmbr it being removed along with the battery full pop up mods in a couple of the old Eclair and Froyo DK28 ROM's...but its actually a good feature especially with temperatures above 50 degrees C, assuming you know the negative effects of frequent overheating....but at the end of the day if its someone who knows these things it can be a distraction.

I've seen this charging message on the EF02 releases myself. Not sure if it's actually getting that hot, or if it's just another EF02 bug.
I've als gotten this error once or twice. Let it cool and it will charge up propper. For me I thought it had something to do with the phones attempts to get the OTA modem update to EF10 constantly. I could very likely be mistaken. I ended up wiping my phone and reinstalling the ef02 roms and modem from Decadence

I've legitimately gotten this warning a few times - while the phone was charging in my car dock attached to my windshield on a sunny day. The phone was quite hot when I pulled it out of the dock, so I'm certainly glad the feature is there.
This was on an SRF ROM, not sure which, since it hasn't happened sometime before I updated to 1.2.

EE03 and EF02 are both riddled with bugs. Stick with EC05 or if you want gingerbread go to EG22.
I got this a ton of times with eeo3

I use my phone in my car to navigate, and of course this message appears just in the worst moment. And not just once... I press OK, and it appears again and again. Other non-stock ROMs solved this problem by simply stop charging and not sending this message again and again.
So is there any way to eliminate this message?
