Overclocking - Hard/Easy?

I recently bought Wildfire, and I realy enjoy it. The biggest upset of this phone for me is that Skype isn't working properly. The sound quality is horrible, scratchy and I can barely understand what others are saying to me.
So last week I wrote an email to skype developers and they told me that the main couse of my issue is slow processor.
I started looking how can I improve my phone speed and found this awesome forum.
I'm pretty experianced if it comes to overclocking PCs which can confirm my PC - watercooled Q6600 4.1Ghz, but if it comes to the smartphones my experiance is less then none. On the PC everything is simple - you run bios and make some magic. Ofc. you can flash ur bios ect. but everything comes just so naturally for a user.
Here everything seems soo complicated. I've read tones of postes and I still 've no idea how 2 safely overclock my processor. I know I need some new kernel and newer ver. of Android. On the other hand, newer ver. of Android is bugged and GPS is not working as it should 've. (I didn't tested this, just heared about it).
Okay question time
1)Is there anyway to overclock my Wildfire without changing Android ver.? I don't need any more functions, 2.1 is enought for me.
2)Did you test skype on your OC'ed wildfire? If you did, how did it work?
3)Don't you've any simple guide how to make a safe overclocking? During the search time I found this - I can't paste link but the tutorial was very complex.
Sry for my mistakes, I know my English isn't in a perfect shape.
Cheers!
Its easy, Im a relative noob and I managed it no problems at all. You dont even need to be running a custom rom to do it.
Youll need to first root your phone by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788776
Then download Jacobs kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798471 Rename it "update" and put it in the root of your sd card. Reboot your phone into recovery by holding volume down and power and choosing recovery. Do a nandroid backup incase things go pear shaped. Select "apply sdcard:update" from the recovery menu and it should flash the kernel. Reboot your phone and install setCPU. Enjoy.
Do you have to pay for setCPU ?

You can either buy it on the market, or download it from this thread (don't worry, it's not warez, the thread is maintained by the dev).

hey there. i've follow ur way. but then nothing happened? the setCPU comes after flashed the kernal or we have to find it? nothing happened but an app called "Superuser permission" came out. I've tried to open it but nothing happened, just a black screen.
i tried to search for setCPU and then i got a CPU tuner. Everytime i try to pull the max frequency bar and it will force closed =(. why??
1. root your phone
2. download hcdr jacob's kernel, put it on your sd card and flash it, you dont need to rename it to 'update.zip', boot into recovery, just select install zip from sd card and choose the kernel and flash it.
3. download setcpu from xda, or find it on the market
4. run it, allow su permissions, and then change your settings bla bla.

As U are getting the superuser app u have successfully rooted your phone.
Now download the latest Kernal nd update from it by booting into recovery mode.(HBOOT then Recover). In recovery menu select your file nd hit update.A couple of min. later ur done.Check in about hone to see weather it was a success.
Download setcpu app and select max min frequency nd profiles if u want.Any problem these threads have TONS of info.GL

thank you for your clear guide.
since u say i got the superuser app means i have successfully rooted my phone, then i got the setCPU ( CPU Tuner ) from the market, but i just cant understand why it will forced close everytime i try to drag the max and min frequency bar =(. i did not change any values also..

Download this one.

Then reinstall setcpu.
Or maybe you are using the wrong app, i am pretty sure it's setCPU, not CPU tuner.
Try getting it from the thread ?
i'm try to download that one, hope that will help. thanks assassinator =)
@argeoff
i got it from market leh.. it's wrong? do u have the link?
Download the setCpu from the thread. One guy mentioned it earlier.

Wow thank you guys for all this help. Michealtbh you gave me answear I was hoping for. Today I'm gonna try all of this, I just hoping my HTC Sync won't ruin my rooting. Thanks again!
i get it solved also =D. now my cpu f is 710mhz wow. but i cant see any difference right now, any way can test this limit? haa.
thanks all =)
Sucess! New kernel installed, Overclocking done! Aweeesome! TY!
EDITED: Okay guys, Skype isn't work properly so I'm pretty sure it's some kind of skype software bug. One last question, is there a way to check temperature of the processor?
Easiest way to test the new speed is to play games.
Something like angry birds ..

[Q] Overclocking Issue :( any ideas?

so im fairly new to android (converting from iphone) and bought myself a wildfire to check it out. So far ive used unrevoked to root and flashed the wildpuzzle ROM, now im attempting to overclock the processor. ive saved the 0163_768mhz_cpu_speed_v1.zip to my PC, copy to SD, installed from reboot menu and downloaded setCPU. But the max is still 528 mhz on setCPU :/ any ideas on where im going wrong?
If that is not working, first, flash the 0130 file (kernel), then try 0163. Also, if you flash 0130, you dont need 0163, and, can set the speed as you wish from within SetCPU.
Try it out.
BTW, I hope by "Installed from Reboot Menu" you mean entering into Recovery Mode, Selecting Install Zip from SDC, and selecting the particular Zip file.
One last thing, remember to take a Nandroid backup before flashing any overclockable kernels.
yes thats what i meant
I tried the 0130 file, had to unistall and re-install setCPU but is now running at 768mhz! thanks for the help 3xeno
That's great, but, just as an info, I would not recommend keeping it at 768. Most phones are unstable at that, and, performance actually drops. Try 710 or 729.
With the overclocking done, PSX4droid works well?

HELP!!!!

i've flashed CM7, and i reboot it, .. after 15min, the screen is the same, what should i do now?is it normal? i'm getting panic
What screen, if it's HBOOT screen, maybe something wrong in the boot process.
If it's CM7 splash, it was being installed.
use adb and type in "adb shell" and then type "logcat -C", if the log is running, the phone is booting

i reflashed it, and my WF rebooted again and again, is it normal?
did you try a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset) before reflash ?
as I say, try to go into shell and use logcat, it'll provide you the log process and maybe you will know if there's something wrong

what should i do?flash hdcr before cm7 right?

4.2 kernel is fine, but you can flash 4.1 if you want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798471
flash CM7 first, and then flash 4.1 kernel.
Just wait, the first boot when you flash ROM can very long (around 20min, usablly 5,10min for me)

my phone is ok now!!! thanks a lot!!!
can you give me some instruction of how can i make battery last? actually this is the reason wwhy i flashed this rom
okay, first try to install setCPU, free for xda member, search in the forum
set the min around 160 or >200Mhz and max ~600 or anything you want.
set 3 profile
Screen off: 160-~300
Baterry<20%: 160-~400 or 500
Temp >45: 160-~400
it'll help because you optimize the CPU use.
turn-off some animation, don't use live wallpaper (CM7 use it by default, so turn it off)

Few questions about cm7

just some noob questions..
its my first time to flash a custom yesterday and i flashed cm7 #57..
main reason: i want my battery last and wana use openvpn..
last night, it freezes and reboot itself many times.
i think its because i set the cpu at 768
i wiped my WF again and flashed # 50 last night..
i just notice that my battery gets easily drain even i use setcpu, 245min 614max and some profiles...
what should i do then? do i need to wipe batt stat? if so,how to do that guys?
....
the next thing is i want the openvpn to got work and i cant find any tutorial how to do that..?
can someone help me? thanks in advance
sorry for my bad english

well that happens to me also when i set my WF on 768...best set up for me (stable) is max 710 min 245...fast enough!
to conserve battery set your profile (set cpu) when screen is off to a lower frequency however, i suggest you use overclock widget as sometimes set cpu causes WF to freeze or hang up...then set your on screen and off screen speed...this will do the trick.
If your experiencing boot loop after flashing new nightlies probably its because of 4.2 kernel...try kernel 4.1 surely this will sort this problem out.
about vpn try to check main xda thread...i already pm you a link which might give you an idea where to start...

I updated it for RC1 btw.

Having major Issue (I hope im just a newb)

Here is whats happening to me..I rooted my Galaxy tab 10.1 soon as i got it…no problem…I then tried to set it up to recognize ad-hoc..using the tutorial from another site…when i rebooted ..the Samsung log appeared followed by multi colored horizontal lines all accross the screen..
I restored it back to factory settings and was good to go exept now I have a yellow exclamation point at boot up. So Then I rerooted no problem….I was able to set up for ad-hoc using a tutorial from this site…then i tried to overclock and install Starburst and back to Horizontal lines when I rebooted..
Luckily this time I backed up the rom..so I reverted to that and was ok…This is my 1st andriod , please help ..I want to over clock and put in a new rom but im scared.
I really hope this is something simple that Im doin wrong and can resolve.
sounds like the wrong kernel was loaded up bro. Do this install task650s rom, and install pershoots OC kernel. Do you have a wifi tab? if so, then you need the TW UX version from pershoot. After you install pershoots kernel, then DL setcpu from XDA ( its free here ) and then auto detect , run the slider to 14 and tick the box for set on boot. Reboot and you're golden.
Ok sounds Awesome...yes its the wifi only 10.1...im totally new to android..do i do it in that exact order rom then kernal and so on?
Ok download these
1. Tasks rom : http://www.multiupload.com/F6K6JNJ46V
2. Pershoots kernel ( correct on already ) : http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/ker...-cm_2636.4_ux-oc-xtra-vfpv3-d16_fp-091011.zip
3. Setcpu and set it up as I said above : http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=648354&d=1310073004
You have to be rooted, and Im sure you still are. Its late here and Im super tired, so forgive me haha
Your THE MAN thank you bro..get some sleep..I swear this is last question..I dont reboot untill the end? or after each thing i install? I swear thats it lol.
ITs cool bro, Im not the typical forum browser. I'll try and help even the simplest question that has been asked 1000 times. Anyway, What I would do is get into recovery ( btw a good app for this is called Quickboot, its free and puts the tab right into recovery with one click )
What I was saying haha, is get into recovery. Do a system wipe/factory reset. Once that is done flash Tasks, then pershoots kernel. Once that is done back out and reboot. Its going to take around 10 mins or so. But it may only take a few. Depends, but let it sit until its done. Once its done. Let the kernel set in and works its way thru the code. Then reboots for ****s. Once its rebooted load the setcpu program. When that comes up accept the superuser popup, adjust the slider bar to 1400mhz and then slick the box that says set on boot. Then restart again, and well thats it bro.
WOW!!! You sir are a Scholar.....All worked perfect....Happy guy here, thanks again..where do I send the xmas card too lol?
God you got it figured out bro.
