Having major Issue (I hope im just a newb) - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Here is whats happening to me..I rooted my Galaxy tab 10.1 soon as i got it…no problem…I then tried to set it up to recognize ad-hoc..using the tutorial from another site…when i rebooted ..the Samsung log appeared followed by multi colored horizontal lines all accross the screen..
I restored it back to factory settings and was good to go exept now I have a yellow exclamation point at boot up. So Then I rerooted no problem….I was able to set up for ad-hoc using a tutorial from this site…then i tried to overclock and install Starburst and back to Horizontal lines when I rebooted..
Luckily this time I backed up the rom..so I reverted to that and was ok…This is my 1st andriod , please help ..I want to over clock and put in a new rom but im scared.
I really hope this is something simple that Im doin wrong and can resolve.

sounds like the wrong kernel was loaded up bro. Do this install task650s rom, and install pershoots OC kernel. Do you have a wifi tab? if so, then you need the TW UX version from pershoot. After you install pershoots kernel, then DL setcpu from XDA ( its free here ) and then auto detect , run the slider to 14 and tick the box for set on boot. Reboot and you're golden.

Ok sounds Awesome...yes its the wifi only 10.1...im totally new to android..do i do it in that exact order rom then kernal and so on?

Ok download these
1. Tasks rom : http://www.multiupload.com/F6K6JNJ46V
2. Pershoots kernel ( correct on already ) : http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/ker...-cm_2636.4_ux-oc-xtra-vfpv3-d16_fp-091011.zip
3. Setcpu and set it up as I said above : http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=648354&d=1310073004
You have to be rooted, and Im sure you still are. Its late here and Im super tired, so forgive me haha

Your THE MAN thank you bro..get some sleep..I swear this is last question..I dont reboot untill the end? or after each thing i install? I swear thats it lol.

ITs cool bro, Im not the typical forum browser. I'll try and help even the simplest question that has been asked 1000 times. Anyway, What I would do is get into recovery ( btw a good app for this is called Quickboot, its free and puts the tab right into recovery with one click )
What I was saying haha, is get into recovery. Do a system wipe/factory reset. Once that is done flash Tasks, then pershoots kernel. Once that is done back out and reboot. Its going to take around 10 mins or so. But it may only take a few. Depends, but let it sit until its done. Once its done. Let the kernel set in and works its way thru the code. Then reboots for ****s. Once its rebooted load the setcpu program. When that comes up accept the superuser popup, adjust the slider bar to 1400mhz and then slick the box that says set on boot. Then restart again, and well thats it bro.

WOW!!! You sir are a Scholar.....All worked perfect....Happy guy here, thanks again..where do I send the xmas card too lol?

God you got it figured out bro.

Not bricked ... but not good . help?

Hey guys , im not exactly a noob to modding ,flashing, etc. But i have a situation here. I was runningthe new Zinc Rom with Voodoo from Rom Manager. Everything was GREAT , but for some stupid reason i tried flashing the stupidfast kernal also from rom manager. I came from a droid X and we didnt have all these kernal flashes . So in that sense , i am a noob .
Anyhoo, after "flashing" the kernal i booted back up fine and dandy , but it was FC central . "The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".
I have been reading the how to remove voodoo thread , but getting lost in all the posts and not even sure if thats what i need to be doing now .
used Odin to restore and everything works just fine...except for that FC over and over . Phone calls , Txts , everything . I just have a 2 second window to click what i want before the FC comes up again.
Can someone please assist? I hate to ask such a thing , but im grasping at straws here and have work tomorrow . Thanks guys . So much .
Hehe... similar problem here.
Mine was blackhole rom, but it's FCing over and over.
Did you guys disable voodoo before flashing the other kernels?
Sent from my StupidFast, SuperDark Fascinate.
nope, im an idiot (not being sarcastic) . I knew i was supposed to and everything and just forgot. Is there any hope?
You may want to wait for a second opinion, but you'll probably need to do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784
yeah , thats what i have neem looking at. however , i cant boot into CWM i have the files and everything on my card , i just cant get there to do anything . whenever i try getting rom manager from the marketplace now (which is tedious now because of all the FCs) It tells me i have no room to install the app
Try getting into Clockwork Recovery by doing step 5 in the first post of the thread linked below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807088
I couldn't get to adb to begin with so I just went with it
I'll try and see what happens.

Power off. Hold down both the volume up + volume down + power to boot into stock recovery. Run update.zip to get to cwm.
And before you get chewed out, questions and problems should be directed to the general section, not dev.
Thanks for the heads up , ill repost over there. update.zip gives me an error btw. Im really needing this fixed . Like $50 bucks to your paypal or something haha seriously .
Hi there i did the same thing you did install that stupidfast kernal and got screwed and forgot to disable voodoo. so i used odin and did a complete restore back to stock. Everything worked great but fc everytime. So what i did is that i have all my clockwordmod backup files saved on my pc. I have put the backup file in the sd card in the clockwordmod backup folder, then i booted up the phone to the clockwordmod recovery that restored the backup that you save before you install the stupidfast kernal lolz i hope that helpz.
might have fixed it....
I hope you all fixed your phones somehow.
For future reference, this is the thread from AndroidCentral that I followed.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/38029-how-escape-force-close-loop-hell.html
I had this EXACT same problem but i finally fixed it last night.
What i did was first i restored with odin files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
Next i flashed clockwork recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
Then Boot into clockwork recovery with the usb unplugged. hold the up volume key and then plug the phone into the usb. Then u should be able to adb push the voodoo uninstaller found here to your sd card and flash it through clockwork.
After that u should be all good. Just restore with nandroid and should be as good as new.
But yea after that i do suggest trying to stupid fast kernal because voodoo will be completely gone for sure... and it seriously is stupid fast...

[Q] Help with flashing ROM

Hey guys, new to rooting and mods on phones. i have a samsung fascinate that i rooted on saturday. installed rom manager, root explorer, clockwork and ti backup. the problem i am having is that when i attempt to flash the super clean rom from jt1134, by using the rom manager. it keeps giving me a few different error messages. on is E: failed to verify whole-file signature and E:Signature verification Failed. Through my research i tried dl'ing the zip form to the sd card, and similar messages came up. please help. Thanks
Can I make a recommendation? Dont instal any roms as of now. None are true custom roms. All still have the touchwiz running. None of the roms run bug free and all see Force Close errors!!
Your better off...just rooting, Install lagfix from market, and use launcherpro.
Ive tried the custom roms and honestly not worth it till froyo comes.
stupid question but what exactly does lagfix do?
Ok ive noticed it fixes how slow the market reacts when opened, also speeds up when page loads somewhat.....if you use the LagFix in the market it has a option in the app to remove it if you dont like it , but im sure you will. Stay away from Voodoo LagFix it can be tricky.
Download oclf from market
give it root access
choose to install EXT2 Tools
Then go back and install Lag Fix V1+
This is the only lag fix i know of that be removed by the app itself no outside programs.
Trust me the roms that are out you wont notice anything special from them. all they do is remove apps!!! Wait till cyanogen releases his rom for Fascinate. He makes the best Roms period!!! And he just made a beta for the galaxy lineup....but the fascinate will not see any true roms untill froyo is released!!!
whats the eta on froyo? seems like it keeps getting pushed back.
the cyanogen rom was the entire reason i wanted to test it on the fascinate(i didn't know it wasn't available yet). i had a buddy with it and it seemed to be a super powerful rom.
thanks for all the info martyotaku
From the looks of it.... not till January! Was supposed to be this month. Who knows might still happen.
Honestly if I'm you if your in your 30 days return it and wait for something else. Samsung is known for horrible support.
It sounds like you haven't actually installed CWM... Did you just try to flash it via ROM Manager? Because that won't work. You actually have to flash it using Odin. Once you have CWM successfully installed, you can flash ROMS, kernals, etc...
And I would stay away from the OCLF. A lot of people have been having problems with it, just like VooDoo. Once I uninstalled it, I noticed significant battery life increase. All the lag fix really does is artificially inflate quadrant scores, which don't really count for much anyways.
I've been running JT's Super Clean ROM and I can easily go 48 hours without a charge... No where near that on the stock ROM
just bought cwm from the market and installed.
which i didnt do before. i assumed when i dl rom manager and did that recovery it was already installed.
went to see how super clean acted and tried to redo the flash. still gave me the same two error messages.
Again, you have to flash CWM through Odin, you can't just install it and it magically work
gotcha. ill research how to use the odin ect.... thanks kevin
No problem!
Here's the thread on how to do it
And I cannot stress this enough...
NEVER, EVER, EVER USE THE "PHONE" BUTTON IN ODIN!!!
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS USE THE "PDA" BUTTON.
You will have an expensive paper weight if you use the "phone" button.
Don't do it.
Well if that happens... I'm going straight to verizon and opsse sorry I dropped it in a lake... Haha
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
figured odin out... got it installed and did a back up... completely different process.. looks like it has worked. phone is rebooting right now. and ... its stuck on vz symbol for a few min... bammm...very nice!! recommendations from here... sweet themes maybe???
Cant wait to see how it goes from here on out... Thanks so MUCH Kevin. is there any way to give props on this website?
Not that I know of, other than the way you just did!
Glad you got it working.
I'm using JT's Super Clean ROM from ROM Manager with the Dark Gloss theme
i so far like the set up of revolutions v3 w/ circle battery. here in a few i am going to switch to dark gloss mod w/ slide animations...

Overclocking - Hard/Easy?

I recently bought Wildfire, and I realy enjoy it. The biggest upset of this phone for me is that Skype isn't working properly. The sound quality is horrible, scratchy and I can barely understand what others are saying to me.
So last week I wrote an email to skype developers and they told me that the main couse of my issue is slow processor.
I started looking how can I improve my phone speed and found this awesome forum.
I'm pretty experianced if it comes to overclocking PCs which can confirm my PC - watercooled Q6600 4.1Ghz, but if it comes to the smartphones my experiance is less then none. On the PC everything is simple - you run bios and make some magic. Ofc. you can flash ur bios ect. but everything comes just so naturally for a user.
Here everything seems soo complicated. I've read tones of postes and I still 've no idea how 2 safely overclock my processor. I know I need some new kernel and newer ver. of Android. On the other hand, newer ver. of Android is bugged and GPS is not working as it should 've. (I didn't tested this, just heared about it).
Okay question time
1)Is there anyway to overclock my Wildfire without changing Android ver.? I don't need any more functions, 2.1 is enought for me.
2)Did you test skype on your OC'ed wildfire? If you did, how did it work?
3)Don't you've any simple guide how to make a safe overclocking? During the search time I found this - I can't paste link but the tutorial was very complex.
Sry for my mistakes, I know my English isn't in a perfect shape.
Cheers!
Its easy, Im a relative noob and I managed it no problems at all. You dont even need to be running a custom rom to do it.
Youll need to first root your phone by following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788776
Then download Jacobs kernel from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798471 Rename it "update" and put it in the root of your sd card. Reboot your phone into recovery by holding volume down and power and choosing recovery. Do a nandroid backup incase things go pear shaped. Select "apply sdcard:update" from the recovery menu and it should flash the kernel. Reboot your phone and install setCPU. Enjoy.
Do you have to pay for setCPU ?

You can either buy it on the market, or download it from this thread (don't worry, it's not warez, the thread is maintained by the dev).

hey there. i've follow ur way. but then nothing happened? the setCPU comes after flashed the kernal or we have to find it? nothing happened but an app called "Superuser permission" came out. I've tried to open it but nothing happened, just a black screen.
i tried to search for setCPU and then i got a CPU tuner. Everytime i try to pull the max frequency bar and it will force closed =(. why??
1. root your phone
2. download hcdr jacob's kernel, put it on your sd card and flash it, you dont need to rename it to 'update.zip', boot into recovery, just select install zip from sd card and choose the kernel and flash it.
3. download setcpu from xda, or find it on the market
4. run it, allow su permissions, and then change your settings bla bla.

I did that and the wireless was not working so i recommend to do a complete wipe so you can make sure you dont have problems trust me on the long run its better.

You'll save more time by wiping, believe it or not. A lot of little issues may pop up if you don't.
Do this... Make a nandroid of your 4.4 setup, then try flashing over it with 4.5. If you have problems, either go back to your 4.4 nandroid, or wipe and start over with a fresh flash of 4.5.
thank you for the quick responses i had to wipe every and it is working great average of 40mflops
some questions
I am only a few days old to the flashing a ROM to the HTC Evo but I feel I have a pretty good hang of things. I have the following things:
4.5 Mikfroyo (installed last night after finally reading enough to upgrade to the 4.5)
netarchy 4.3.1-cfs-havs-nosbc flashed
the sdreadahead-512.zip installed for faster SD card speeds ( if you want to try it out... http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/02/h...c-evo-even-faster-than-previous-mod.html#more )
but what i am trying to accomplish now is getting the Vanilla lockscreen to work on my phone. I have read that the 4.5 update seems to have the lockscreen within the ROM already, that I just need to delete or rename the htclockscreen.apk within the system/app folder with the Root Explorer app. Here is my issue though: I have changed the Root Explorer to r/w and have located the file from root--->system-->app--->htclockscreen.apk. If I tap on the file it asks me to install/ view/ or cancel. But I thought it was already installed on the system already? If not, do I need to install it, then delete it? That sounds outright silly but then again some stuff is just that way. I have renamed the file and rebooted but, again, to no success. I know that there was a person asking the same question but I guess I could not understand their conversation enough to know how to follow as they did.
Also, just a general question. why is the 4g toggle missing in the notifications bar now? that was kind of handy for me. oh well, i guess i can just use the HTC toggle on a page instead.
Last question, i would like to flash a new theme to the ROM (white version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853050) But when I downloaded it, set it to the SD card, went into recovery, flashed it, and rebooted, the HTC splash screen (white screen) just stayed on forever. I had to restore from my backup, thank god I knew to do that before hand, and just kept the stock theme with MikFroyo. what could I be doing wrong?
I also am having a problem with the lock screen but mine is a little different. When i boot up and unlock phone for the fisrt time. I get a forced close error. Other then that everything in 4.5 is working good so far

Long press on the .apk, a menu will pop up, then click rename from there. Just did it yesterday and it worked fine. I just added .bk at the end (htclockscreen.apk.bk)
As for the 4g missing in the pulldown menu, you can learn how to change it here (taken from the mikfroyo thread) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877003
thank you Bamba, the lockscreen is now operational and wonderful!!! always have wanted this lockscreen! (Guess it is true, the grass is always greener on the other side.)
as for the missing 4g toggle, i kimd of understand the thread but i will read over it one more time so that i do not mess anything up.
Thanks again!

What kernel are you using if you dont mind me askin?.. and are you using SetCPU or anything?.. Juice defender type stuff?..
I was just wondering cuz I have 4.5 w/ the stock kernel and only get about 28-29 most of the time... not that it really matters, but it does seem a little sluggish goin from app to app.... thanks
i have since switched to vp 3.0 remastered, and is by far in my experience the best rom i have every used. everything is working good for me so far and since falling in love with LP this is the rom for me. I am using the latest radio and pri 1.77 and sbc-net 4.1.9 no havs and it is amazing, really fast. So far I have been on this rom and kernel for 18 hours sitting at 71%. I am going to make a detailed video and post a link to it here and for youtube.
New to mikfroyo,Had cynaogenmod cm7 on evo with cricket.worked ok.3g did.Friday i had it flashed back to sprint.Put cyanogen back on it.worked great.EXCEPT the 3g would go back to 1x. So put 4.5 mikfroyo. and it works great. So my question is were do you get the updates for mikfroyo? cyanogen released nightly builds. Is there a site or info on updates? Also is there a 2.3 android mikfroyo out?

[Q] Installed kernel, phone is f*cked up...

Hey guys,
I've known about this whole modding thingy going on for android phones, and i've decided to give it a shot myself.
I took a backup of everything (copied everything.. didn't use any app for that. not too smart of me..)
Anyway,
I looked around and decided to install Hells Core kernel on my phone, along with Cyanogen Mod.
So after installing the SDK on my computer, unlocking the phone, rooting the phone with SuperSU and Clockwork Mod,
I got to installing the kernel.
I put it on my phone, rebooted into recovery mode, reset all data (dalvik cache and all..)
then I installed the kernel from a zip file I put on the phone, and it all went smoothly.
However, when I reboot my phone - it's all messed up!
The screen is all half yellow, and half is just black - not even text.
In the yellow part, you can hardly tell that it's the first welcome screen - because the text is too big to fit the screen.
Anyway, the whole phone is fk3d up.
I just wanna put it back to the original stock kernel and rom...
How do I do that now?
Thanks a lot guys..
This is urgent >_<
Just flash cm again without doing any wipes. It'll get rid of the kernel

I haven't got CM on my phone,
and I can't connect it to the computer because it needs get past the welcome screen - which I can't click on any buttons!
****EDIT ****
nvm, I managed to do it
I used android toolkit, and now the computer can access the phone's internal memory.
Thanks!
***** EDIT #2 ******
Nop, doesn't work yet...
when I copy the other kernels zip's, everything seems okay
but when I reboot my nexus to install from the recovery mode, the zip are corrupted - and when I access from my computer it shows they're 0 bytes.
as if nothing was copied..
What can I do ???
***** EDIT #3 ******
Well, managed to get the phone to work!
Not getting anywhere near Hellscore now..
What I did was run 'install zip from sideload', and then from the pc I used 'adb sideload <FRANCOROCKS>.zip', and that worked
Phone's now up and running, installing my apps again.. lol
Scared to change the ROM though.. after all this >_<

Because you did all this the wrong way. Learn and study before flashing anything, it's not about some simple zip flash. that simple zip file can brick your phone if flashed without knowledge.
hells core kernal is not a CM based kernal that's why you got broken screen. there is a separate thread for cm based kernals. do flash a custom rom like Mahdi slimkat etc they offer great features but only after fully understanding what you are doing

Well, I flashed the kernel before I put the ROM, so this happened with HC kernel on stock ROM.
:X
you probably flashed the wrong version of the kernel
You did get the CM Version of Hells Core, right?
This happens to me all the time, just reflash the Roms .zip and you'll be fine.
Sorry to say that, but from your comments it's obvious that you messed up with wrong kernel's version and is not a fault of this specific kernel.
Also the zero kb downloads show bad downloads on your side again.
