@chichu_9, that file is a .rar for Odin I think. I'm running Linux (Ubuntu Lucid) so can't use Odin nor Kies (I don't have access to MS Windows). I tried installing Heimdall, but it requires a .pit file, and the JI6 rar file from the link you provided doesn't have one (it does have a DLL, what is that for?). Is there another JI6 that does have the .pit file? Is there a way to flash with adb instead?
Or is there a JI6 ROM that can be flashed from Clockwork ROM Manager? I'm new to this and have a stock phone that somehow hasn't gotten the over the air update since I got the phone in August. I have rooted the phone (z4root) and made a Nandroid backup and a Titanium Backup, and my phone doesn't appear to be hardware-locked (I can go into download mode). I've been reading xda for hours and can't figure this out. Any advice?

Pretty certain the development section bible has a link to a flashable version.

@s15274n, thanks for the quick reply! I may have missed it, but I checked the bible before posting and just checked again, and all I found was this:
*(ROM)JI6 OTA deodexed with stock JI6 kernel and modem --s0niqu3***new(10/24/10)***
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808830
^The .zip ROM was removed, causing problems for people.
and the odin .tar.
I also searched through the forum and didn't find it, but like I said, I'm new so maybe I missed it? Maybe I'll just skip it though and just dive in all the way and flash a 2.2 ROM like Master's Axura Final coming out in the next few days.

Apologies, thought there was a flashable zip there.
You will not be disappointed with axura. Just hope Master keeps developing for the Vibrant (he got a my touch I here).

[Deleted!] oopps sorry misread the OP.. nvm
i was saying check TeamWhiskey Downloads for flashable JI6 but that's only the modem

This work?

stock jk2 for future reference

Is there a system dump for JI6 around?

@Moped_Ryder, the zip you linked to contains Odin, which I can't use (no MS Windows) and contains the same JI6 tar as above, but also includes the 512.pit file. I tried to flash via Heimdall by typing this (I untarred all the files to a subdirectory of Heimdall called T959UVJI6):
heimdall flash --pit T959UVJI6/512.pit --factoryfs T959UVJI6/factoryfs.rfs --cache T959UVJI6/cache.rfs --kernel T959UVJI6/zImage --modem T959UVJI6/modem.bin
But I got this error message:
Local and device PIT files don't match. Functionality for this is yet to be implemented.Ending session...
So no JI6 for me. Thanks for all the help, but I think I'll just go directly to Axura once Final (2.0.6) is released to the general public so don't worry about troubleshooting this further.

Flashing just modem with Odin

Hello
I'm trying to flash the jpu modem on stock jpy since I had good results with it. I don't really know where to get it correctly. I've found a jpu modem in the doc rom thread, but it's some zip file, i took the modem.bin file out and just made a TAR out of it. seems other modem tar files include just that.
But i don't know if it's correct.
And I'd welcome info on how to flash it, should I put it in the phone field?
Since this is a great way to brick a phone, I'd like some advice on this matter.
Thank you.
You can use heimdal and just flash the modem.bin directly

Don't put it in a TAR file. Just flash the modem.bin directly. Put it in the "PHONE" box. Make sure Repartition is unchecked and no other fields are filled.
After it's done, go to About to verify it flashed correctly. (Look at Baseband)
Done, running JPU modem on stock JPY...seems to also boot faster now
Thank you.
Hi
I am new to Flashing .. Do I need to do Factory Reset even for flashing only the modem.bin file or not..pls reply.

The .zip file in Doc's thread is meant to be flashed through recovery (CWM or 2e). But I guess flashing through Odin worked for you, so all's well.

Can't use Odin or Heimdall... Can't update to EB13

I know the procedure to update. Odin to stock 2.1, flashy flashy, all peachy. Problem is, I can't use Odin or Heimdall. Don't have access to any computers that can. Is there a way I can return to fully stock without Odin or Heimdall?
Patience is a virtue
By tomorrow afternoon there will be a flashable .zip you can download to flash to EB13
Here is a cwm flashable di18 with modem. It was in the wiki. Imagine that.
And here is the di18->eb13 cwm flashable update with modem delta and is pre-rooted. Also in the wiki.
You can't download and use the samsung exe installer?

How to go from DK28 to EB13

I am a newbie and have read a lot on this forum. I am confused. Is there a simple way to go from DK28 to EB13? I think I have to downgrade to 118 first?
Could someone list the methodology and maybe a link to the necessary files. I am sure this must be on the forum here somewhere, but I am unable to find it.
THANKS,
Todd
I'm seconding this request.
Just get the samung fimwareupdater.exe from their website, run it and follow the onscreen instructions
I was on dk28 and it went through flawlessly

Well, if you are coming from DK28 and want to go to EB13, you're going to have to use the windows installer. Using update.zip will not work. The windows installer is essentially a greatly simplified ODIN which will get EB13 on there, but at the cost of wiping the device completely (but not the SD card.) Downgrading to DI18 isn't needed before running the upgrade tool. The upgrade tool will wipe it and you'll end up with a factory clean install.
It's a pain to reinstall everything (I didn't have root and didn't use Ti backup) BUT I've been rewarded with a clean install that runs fast as heck. All in all, it probably took me an hour or so to manually recover, but that's a small price to pay in my book.
Use the Samsung updater tool to completely reflash - it is like Odin for dummies
It will kill everything on your phone though, so be sure to use a back up of your choice. I just did a backup in CWM first. Then after re-rooting I did an advanced restore of just data in CWM - worked perfectly. (I did have some issues with re-rooting, but I think they were a combo of user error and PC driver error).
I made a thread that had the links...but its since been buried
Just go to samsung.com and then click support and type in sph d700 where it says device number or something, then click software downloads

Follow those to the tee.. and you're fine!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
You do not have to downgrade. Go to the samsung website and download the .exe file on there.
CAUTION it will delete all of your internal phone data (not your SD card), and it will de-root your phone, but you can follow the normal process to reroot.
What is the windows installer?
There are a few different ways that have been outlined in various threads.
Option 1
Odin to di18 and use the update.zip.
Option 2
Use Samsung's updater to directly install eb13. It is basically odin repackaged with a front end so you can't choose the wrong settings.
Option 3
Use clockworkmod to flash back to di18 (use the di18 with modem found in the wiki), then manually insert the original recovery so that the update.zip works
Option 4
Use clockworkmod to flash to di18 and then use clockworkmod again to flash the pre-rooted deodexed di18->eb13 update (which is also found in the wiki).

Just go to the link in my post.
It says you need 32bit windows, I have 64 bit mac and windows 7, and you need 118, I have DK28 on my phone. Still way too confusing.
Don't worry.
Just download and run it.
I did it on my cousins 64bit win 7 home premium laptop with dk28
And it took about 2 minutes to upgrade from dk28 to eb13
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I believe if you grab and install the drivers first before installing the update tool, you won't have any problems. I've heard of others running 64bit win 7 installs with no problems.
How do I wipe my phone clean from a MAC that has DK28? I have windows 7 on a vmfusion and it doesn't seem to work. When I download the update file from Samsung and apply on my SDcard it says it "E:Can't open / sdcard/update.zip (bad) I also tried just naming update.
The update.zip is not flashable from clockworkmod. It checks to make sure you have the stock recovery in place, which you don't if cwm is installed.
Use one of the methods previously mentioned.
It's confirmed that update.zip doesn't work on stock DK28?
I thought people said it worked fine.
It does, but you can't just rename it "update.zip" and expect to flash it using CWM, (most likely means you have a Modded DK28 Rom) you have to have the regular Android recovery. The stock Recovery has Blue letters I believe and CWM has green letters that is how you know the difference.
Still no help for me- I have a mac (no access to windows) and want to go from DK28 to EB13. Any help out there??
thanks!

You forgot Odin:
1. Odin to eb13 rom and modem.
Or
2. Odin the eb13 modem then either flash the deodexed rom in clockwork or flash the official update.zip in stock recovery if you have all the sprint apps..

HELP : accidentally uninstalled TouchWiz

I accidentally uninstalled Touchwiz using Titanium Backup. Since I already use ADW.Launcher, I thought its not a big deal, until I did a hard reset.
Upon hard reset, my Galaxy S tries to install Touchwiz, which of course fails, and the darn phone just crashes and hangs. I managed to get it to boot up eventually after some trouble, but I'll prefer not to have to do this everytime I hard reset.
Can someone please please send me the TouchWiz apk and odex files so that I can put them back in the system directory ? I'm using stock Froyo 2.2 ( Build FROYO.DXJPA, Kernel 2.6.32.9 ). Please email them to [email protected], or tell me where I can download them.
I know this would cease to be a problem if I just flash a custom rom, and I would love to try that in future, but not now.
Thanks so much in advance.
Easy way would be to go to the Rom Kitchin build update zip with only the Touchwizz in it and flash it from SD card via CWM.

APK might be in Perkas file stash from this forum ..###

Thanks, but I'm on 2.2, which means I have the 3e loader which does not allow me to setup update.zips which are unsigned. For this reason, i was also not able to get CWM installed. I know there's a way to downgrade the loader to 2e, but I'll rather not try that at this moment.
I agree with jje. The best and probably easiest way would be to flash 2e recovery. Chainfire has created a kernel for that purpose and as long as you can access download mode you should be fine.

Flash SpeedMOD kernel with Odin and you'll get CWM.
Hi JJEgan, anfearg, Intratech
Thanks for the advice so far. But would it be possible for me to just simply use a file manager to copy the TouchWiz apk and odex files to my system/app directory ? My phone is rooted, so I know it's possible as long as I can get those files. I'm just not sure if there's anything else that needs to be configured to get Android to use those files during setup. If this is workable, this would be the easiest route. Now I just need to get my hands on those files.
I know Odin can fix this, but I'll rather just stick to the current stock rom for now, and just add the missing 2 files.

I'm going to take a look at Odin and see if its not too risky to flash my i9000. I've flashed my old WinMo phones in the past, so flashing is not new to me. But I've yet to try it for Android. Maybe I'll give it a go.

OK, so I spent a couple of hours googling and downloaded Odin, a couple of stock ROMs, PIT files and USB drivers. Fired up Odin, followed instructions, and I'm now back to 2.1 with the 2e loader. Sweet. Had a heart stopping moment when Odin said "FAILED" in red, so i just reflashed another ROM and it went through successfully.
Looks like I'm in the ROM flashing crowd now.
Quick question : some ROMs ( like the one I flashed successfully with Odin ) contains just a few tars - 1 each for CODE/PDA, CSC and MODEM/Phone.
Others ( like the one that Odin failed to flash ) just contains a bunch of directories with files that have bin, rfs, lfs extensions.
Why are there 2 different types of ROM packaging ? Is the first one ( with the tar files ) specific to Odin ? How do I flash the other type then ? With ClockWorkMod ?

the .tar types are to be flashed via odin only whereas the ones with the directories are to be flashed via CWM(2e recovery).... mix them up and you'll be in trouble... ;-)
You only needed to flash the recovery 2e zip file through Odin from the forum .

The single .tar file with .rfs, .bin, etc. is a high-level package. It's sort of a firmware update and can only be flashed on top of an existing firmware. That is, you don't tick re-partition in odin. The ones that come with 3 separate files for CSC, PDA and MODEM are either medium or low-level packages. I think, the low-level ones come with bootloaders. These can be flashed with re-partition ticked.
Thanks guys.
Today I learned how to flash using ODIN (flashed a European 2.1 ROM onto my international i9000 originally with Asian ROM, and downgraded my 3e loader to 2e).
Then I learned to use ClockWorkMod, which I used to flash Darky's ROM 9.5 ( nice ROM, although booting up seems to take an usually long time. Not sure why ). Finally, I almost had a heart attack, twice, when my phone refused to boot after flashing. Nothing a 3 button combo to download mode couldn't fix though.
Fun fun fun. Thanks all.

Update EI22 Modem

I recently updated to EI22 via CWM doing a wipe/clean/fresh install.
Everything works great but my modem (baseband version) in my 'about' section is reading as D700.0.5S.EH06 and I want to update it to EI22 and see how it runs.
I've tried both zip files: modem.EC05toEI22 and Modem_EI22 and neither will install from CWM.
Is there a Odin file for this modem yet?
------------UPDATE-------------
Thanks for the fix guys! I'll post it here up top just to make it easy to find.
This if requires CWM or similiar to update the modem file. No Odin bin available yet as far as I know.
download modem.EC05toEI22.zip and modem_EC05.bin files.
copy modem.EC05toEI22.zip to SD card.
Boot phone into download mode (hold 1 + power)
Use Odin to flash phone to EC05
power off phone
boot phone into CWM
install modem.EC05toEI22.zip
reboot phone.
Baseband verion now - D700.0.5S.EI22
Thanks for the fix to this to those who replied.

You have to odin ec05 then flash that zip it won't work from eh06

Currently, the only two ways to get the EI22 Modem is by OTA update or fashing the EC05 Modem so you can then CWM the EI22 delta file which adds code to the existing EC05, thus making it EI22.
A last way to get EI22 flashed is by Odin, but that's not until we get a tar of the OTA from Samfirmware or Samsung Opensource I think.
