HELP : accidentally uninstalled TouchWiz - Galaxy S I9000 General

I accidentally uninstalled Touchwiz using Titanium Backup. Since I already use ADW.Launcher, I thought its not a big deal, until I did a hard reset.
Upon hard reset, my Galaxy S tries to install Touchwiz, which of course fails, and the darn phone just crashes and hangs. I managed to get it to boot up eventually after some trouble, but I'll prefer not to have to do this everytime I hard reset.
Can someone please please send me the TouchWiz apk and odex files so that I can put them back in the system directory ? I'm using stock Froyo 2.2 ( Build FROYO.DXJPA, Kernel 2.6.32.9 ). Please email them to [email protected], or tell me where I can download them.
I know this would cease to be a problem if I just flash a custom rom, and I would love to try that in future, but not now.
Thanks so much in advance.

Easy way would be to go to the Rom Kitchin build update zip with only the Touchwizz in it and flash it from SD card via CWM.

APK might be in Perkas file stash from this forum ..###

Thanks, but I'm on 2.2, which means I have the 3e loader which does not allow me to setup update.zips which are unsigned. For this reason, i was also not able to get CWM installed. I know there's a way to downgrade the loader to 2e, but I'll rather not try that at this moment.

I agree with jje. The best and probably easiest way would be to flash 2e recovery. Chainfire has created a kernel for that purpose and as long as you can access download mode you should be fine.

Flash SpeedMOD kernel with Odin and you'll get CWM.

Hi JJEgan, anfearg, Intratech
Thanks for the advice so far. But would it be possible for me to just simply use a file manager to copy the TouchWiz apk and odex files to my system/app directory ? My phone is rooted, so I know it's possible as long as I can get those files. I'm just not sure if there's anything else that needs to be configured to get Android to use those files during setup. If this is workable, this would be the easiest route. Now I just need to get my hands on those files.
I know Odin can fix this, but I'll rather just stick to the current stock rom for now, and just add the missing 2 files.

I'm going to take a look at Odin and see if its not too risky to flash my i9000. I've flashed my old WinMo phones in the past, so flashing is not new to me. But I've yet to try it for Android. Maybe I'll give it a go.

OK, so I spent a couple of hours googling and downloaded Odin, a couple of stock ROMs, PIT files and USB drivers. Fired up Odin, followed instructions, and I'm now back to 2.1 with the 2e loader. Sweet. Had a heart stopping moment when Odin said "FAILED" in red, so i just reflashed another ROM and it went through successfully.
Looks like I'm in the ROM flashing crowd now.
Quick question : some ROMs ( like the one I flashed successfully with Odin ) contains just a few tars - 1 each for CODE/PDA, CSC and MODEM/Phone.
Others ( like the one that Odin failed to flash ) just contains a bunch of directories with files that have bin, rfs, lfs extensions.
Why are there 2 different types of ROM packaging ? Is the first one ( with the tar files ) specific to Odin ? How do I flash the other type then ? With ClockWorkMod ?

the .tar types are to be flashed via odin only whereas the ones with the directories are to be flashed via CWM(2e recovery).... mix them up and you'll be in trouble... ;-)

You only needed to flash the recovery 2e zip file through Odin from the forum .

The single .tar file with .rfs, .bin, etc. is a high-level package. It's sort of a firmware update and can only be flashed on top of an existing firmware. That is, you don't tick re-partition in odin. The ones that come with 3 separate files for CSC, PDA and MODEM are either medium or low-level packages. I think, the low-level ones come with bootloaders. These can be flashed with re-partition ticked.

Thanks guys.
Today I learned how to flash using ODIN (flashed a European 2.1 ROM onto my international i9000 originally with Asian ROM, and downgraded my 3e loader to 2e).
Then I learned to use ClockWorkMod, which I used to flash Darky's ROM 9.5 ( nice ROM, although booting up seems to take an usually long time. Not sure why ). Finally, I almost had a heart attack, twice, when my phone refused to boot after flashing. Nothing a 3 button combo to download mode couldn't fix though.
Fun fun fun. Thanks all.

When will 2.2.1 be released in Australia?
Too hard to answer... ha ha ha
Prob before the US
So easy to do it yourself anyway.
Install CWM with Odin, then go to Docs kitchen and install the non-wipe version.
Bonus it shall work and is no dodgy Kies involved plus you get a real kernel, Speedmod etc and can convert the entire file system to ext4 aswell... Worth it just for the huge speed increase etc from stock..

it will be realeased in mid 2011 but in not going to tell u the real realease but i will be telling later on in the year
whats the difference between the Australian models and the Europe models? Cause I've istalled a Europe firmware and then Darkyy's ROM, works fine.
well it usually depends on what carrier your on. for example if your on optus u might get an australian open app. or if your on sprint you might get a wi fi hotspot option in the settings. the possibilities are endless... ill keep u updated on these changes

downloaded the file but don't know what to do with it .it's saying I need clockworkmod recovery to install feel lazy to do the prosess. I thought it would have been a odin flash and thats it.
Still might just go for the original xwjs3 flash unless someone know an odin flash way for romkitchen?
Why is pup still captaining the one day team, let alone even in the side and why hasn't hilditch been booted as a selector when he couldn't pick his nose properly with a torch and pair of needle nose pliers let alone pick a cricket team?

Cwm files are flashed from the phone. Just put the file on your sd card. Then download rom manager from the market and from it flash cwm recovery. Then boot into recovery mode. Might need to boot into recovery a second time for the cwm recovery version to show. Note that this only works if you have recovery mode 2e. You can tell which version you have when in recovery mode....it shows it on top. If you have 3e just flash cf root with odin. After all is working you can select the rom on your sd card from cwm recovery and flash it. I always download roms from my phone and flash with it as well. Haven't had to use a pc or odin fir months now. I'm currently on Doc's rom JPY but who knows about tomorrow

Does cf root work with xwjs3? I have zip file, do I unzip or leave it ziped when putting on SD?? Does the file need a name??? might give it a go!
So first
1.flash cf root
2.put ziped file on sd card (asuming)
3.install clockworkmod
4.flash clockworkmod recovery, boot into recovery.
Once in recovery what do I do in recovery?
5.select rom and flash
cheers!
Really need to know which is the best modem and CSC for us Aussies. I'm on an Optus reseller here up in Brisbane and get pretty shocking reception most of the time.
wow..i didn't noe dat we hv an Aussie Thread Here..its Cool..Niwae Juz Wanna Share Wif Ya Dat I've Upgrade Mine Using Darky's Rom 2.2.1..but it seems like its sucking up my batt..& wen I run up the Quadrant benchmark,my device end up in either 3rd or 4th..unlike the others on 2.2.1 ending theirs up on the top..Juz Nt sure wer it when Wrong..But Overall Its Still cool..

You've pretty much got it. But in number 3. it's actually install 'rom manager' However not sure if cf root works on js3. I'm currently using jpy but it may work. It's just a kernal so if it doesn't just flash another compatible kernal. You will know if it works by using the 3 button method to enter recovery. If you see 2e at the top then all good.
For the zipped file you don't need to unzip. Just leave it as is. CWM recovery has an added option which allows you to select zip file from sd. you to select zip file you want to flash and you don't need to change the name. My files are names darkys...., docs... etc. You can rename them if you want.
When you flash cwm recovery from rom manager it creates an update.zip file on your sd card which normal 2e recovery uses to get you onto the cwm recovery version. And then yes, just select rom, theme, or anything else you want and all done. I currently have a folder on sd named 'flash' with subfolders for firmwares, kernals, themes, apps and other.
I just flash away anytime anywhere I like and if I'm not happy I just flash back. CWM also has a backup function which is literally a life saver. Titanium is good for apps but rom manager / cwm backs up everything. I've had problems before and from cwm recovery selected restore and all good again.
For anyone with a Telstra SGS i suggest having a look at this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907149.
Been using it for about 2 weeks now and seems to give reasonable battery life compaired to stock Telstra ROM.
Can somebody explain to me why is Wi-Fi connection so unreliable? I've recently upgraded to 2.2. release, which made the Wi-Fi connectivity worse. It got that bad that I can't connect to the Wi-Fi network in my office, but my other phone (iPhone 4) deosn't have any issues connecting. Samsung has spent too much developing their 3d TV's instead improving their mobile phones quality.

[Q] Confirm how to flash a ROM upgrade?

I have done a lot of searching on this topic, but as yet have not been able to find a specific answer for the SGTab. So I hope I am not asking for the obvious, even for a noob.
I have done a full flash with no trouble (thanks to the XDA guides and videos, and Roto's great ROMs), but now I want to install an upgrade.zip From what I have gathered, I can do this by copying the upgrade.zip to the SD card, and then accessing it through the tab's recovery mode (power+vol_down), rather than flashing through Odin.
I would very much like to confirm if I am on the right track, and also whether I put the .zip file on the SD card or the extracted file?
Thanks for your help.
_________________
Sorry - I think the recovery mode should be power + vol_up
What is the purpose of the upgrade.zip? Like a theme, or a rom upgrade?
It is Rotos JMI v2 upgrade.
I ran the upgrade with Odin as PDA. No pit file, No modem file, No repartition required.
I think what he wants to know isflashing ghe update on recovery mode instead of using odin for that instant.. well id like to know that too
The Roto upgrades are made for Odin, and not made to be ran as that type of upgrade. Roto said that down the road, using the recovery Chainfire was building, he would bundle his upgrades as an upgrade.zip, but not yet.

Thanks for the explanation, I now know why it didn't work. However, Odin did so I have got to where I wanted. Thanks.
However, if I was to be using that type of update, is the process I mentioned the way to do it, i.e. copy update.zip to the sdcard root and process through the tab recovery mode?

Yes that is the process. It is the usual method to flash roms, modems, themes, etc. the time is very close for tab owners. I am trying a beta of this process when I finish my daily reading of xda.

whats the difference between jpm jpf etc....
which rom should i go for???[no bugs at all]
well XXJPM is latest firmware than XXJPF
I5801ZFJPE ##
I5801ZHJPF ##
these two are available at samfirmware, which one should i get??
and which rom is best and stable??
Download I5800XXJPM
remove boot.bin and sbl.bin (edit using winrar)
then select as one package and flash
i need a credible source about jpm...iam not sure its not even in i5801 section...
We flash 5800 firmware all the time, just be sure to check for the above mentioned boot files.
i cant wait for days,i need to do something today....so going for jpm
any precautions while flashing ??
it's not in 5801 b=coz it's a 5800 rom
both are same phone (there is no difference that i know) if u goto any phone specification websites, u'll not find any difference
5801 was first created for orange-europe similar to locked blackberry and i-phones of airtel and vodaphone
then they changed the whole production stream to I5801(changed stickers and boot screen only difference)
should sd card be inserted while flashing??
the first time it starts up after flashing it's gonna take a long time
DO NOT REMOVE DATA CABLE ON ANY CONDITION DURING FLASHING
if the boot logo (the samsung screen) stays for more than 15 min, remove battery, close&restart odin, goto download mode and flash again
be sure to remove the two files-(if they are not present then no problem)
that's not a problem but let it remain inside (custom rom using data2sd & app2sd must have sd card access during flashing)
My rom suggestion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986831
It also contains instructions on how to flash. You can use the instructions to flash JPM too (if you dont want a custom rom), just use the JPM onepackage file instead of the indroid.
Recommended JPM download:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/183636761/JPM.tar
or
http://www.fileserve.com/file/KJFSBBq/JPM.tar
After flashing I'd suggest enabling JIT (dunno if it works with JPM, pretty sure it does. It definitely works with indroid)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12736421&postcount=2
You could also try out the fugumod BE kernel (with overclock), however it might not be stable so its up to you:

i already downloaded jpm [115 mb] from samfirmware but not yet started the flashing process...
edit:figured it out its 243 mb after extracting
where are these files and how to remove them "boot.bin and sbl.bin"
i can only see
1,cache.rfs
2,datafs.rfs
3,factoryfs.rfs
4,modem[bin file]
5,zimage
In what format did it come in? Odin accepts .tar and .tar.md5 files
1.If its a one package (one tar) first check if it (the tar file) contains boot.bin and sbl.bin, if so REMOVE THEM. If something goes wrong while flashing them it can "brick" your phone (make it unusable and unfixable by you)
To flash click on the link i posted above and follow flashing instructions on post 4 (or post 3/5 not sure which post it is)
2.If it comes in several packages (phone csc pda bootloader) flash phone csc and pda with odin, DO NOT FLASH BOOTLOADER, same reason as above for boot and sbl.
Flashing like this is quite similar to flashing a one package (instructions- first link of previous post). The difference is you dont tick/check one package in odin and you dont choose a onepacke file, but you choose phone, csc and pda to there respective places then flash
3.It might (but shouldn't) also come as a bunch of files, factory.rfs data.rfs etc, (if there are boot.bin and sbl.bin, REMOVE THEM)if so you have to .tar them. Google for a program that can make .tar files (like 7zip).
After making the .tar file flash as it by following the instructions in the link in my previous post (its a one package flash)
EDIT: just saw your post. those two files (boot and sbl) have already been removed. If the files you do have didnt come in a .tar use method 3 in this post, if they did come in a tar use method 1

[JVH Install Help] Bell Canada

Here's what I did to get JVH (with 850mhz band) and CSC for Canada on my phone. It worked for me at least
Files:

**************Disclaimer:***************
I'm not responsible if this bricks your phone, as "the boss" said if I break mine, she'll break me... or I get a $20 replacement phone
Backup your /efs folder, backup EVERYTHING, just in case... I'm paranoid so I did it all
ROM NOTES:
Got deodexed from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11256520&postcount=1
Modem:
KC1
Busybox:
1.18.4
Hosts file updated for ad blocking using:
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm
Here's the steps I followed:
Save all files to folder/desktop
Connect phone via usb and copy JVH_KC1_BMC.zip to root of sdcard
Restart phone in download mode
Open Odin and click PDA
Select Speedmod tar file
Uncheck Auto-Reboot
Check F.Reset Time (I don't know what it does, but it's always checked)
Flash the tar.
Once complete and the box says "PASS" in green, unplug your phone and pull the battery (I was told it's safe, as it's in the MIUI instructions as well)
Put battery back in and start phone in recovery with VOL UP+HOME+POWER
In recovery choose to update from zip
Choose file from sdcard
Choose the JVH_KC1_BMC zip file and update
The phone will restart/install.
Once it's started up for the first time I recommend restarting in download mode and flashing the stock JVH kernal
You can also use any kernal you want.
Let me know if I can help at all. I was trying to make a completely odin flashable tar for this but failed miserably :9
I'll do my best to answer any questions however this is my first time making something to flash for you all
Note:
I'm not sure where to put this, sorry to mods/admins if it's in the wrong spot, please let me know

I saw your thread, and I found it very interesting for people who own a Bell SGS 9000m Vibrant and wanna upgrate to Gingerbread.
So I decided to flash the Gingerbread JVH ROM just like you did, but I need to know a few things:
1. Will I be able to downgrade to my original stock froyo after this flash ?
2. Will I be able to update via Kies in case Bell release an official gingerbread update ?
3. Right now my phone is SIMUnlocked, will I lose my SIMunlockation after the flash ?
4. And is my actual configuration right to excecute this flash or should I flash something else before ?
My configuration is the following:
Baseband version
I9000UGJL2
Firmware
2.2
Kernel
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #3
Build number
FROYO.UGJL2
galaxy s vibrant bell
gt-i9000m
Thanks for your hard work, I hope to read back from you soon.
I have exact same configuration and exact same questions as poster above!!!
Still no answer... Guess we'll have to try if wanna know...

1. yes, it's possible
2. yes, but you would either need to downgrade first or do a kies hack
3. no
4. you can do it straight
Thanks zorxd.
I am going to try. So there is no need for me to select any Pit file or did the guy forget to mention it ? Also can we tick the repartition option in Odin?
Sorry if I ask usekess question I am used to flash android but new to the SGS flashing...
when you repartition you need a PIT file.
My advice is to not repartition unless you need it.
Too late... I did it got stuck into bootloop. I had an error when I tried to install the zip from the recovery (I had recovery 3e) : E : Short write of /tmp/sideload/package.zip (No space left on device) . However, I flashed the back eclair JHL and went back to the stock eclair rom. I am going to restart from there following your intructions. I now have recovery 2e ( Somehow I can't get ClockWorkMod Recovery to load directly; it always send me to recovery 2e and there I apply update.zip to go to CWM recovery)
Thanks for your help, I'll let you know if I manage to get it done.
Still get the error E:Short write of/tmp/sideload/package.zip (No space left on device) when try to install JVH_KC1_BMC.zip from the recovery 3e ( this recovery comes right after I flash SpeedmodK15E_withLoaders.tar ...
Don't know what else to try... Help please..
I did it a slightly different way. From 2.2, I flashed a stock 3 part gingerbread rom (phone, PDA, CSC) with bootloader update using ODIN 1.82. I then flashed CF root gingerbread kernel for CWM3 and then flashed the KC1 modem from clockwork recovery for the 850 band.
Could you please show me the exact files you used so I can try to do the same ?
Aren't there at least a couple threads on how to install jvh/jvp on an i9000? Its the exact same process as those you just have to flash the kc1 modem via cwm after you are done. It sounds like you guys are experimenting too much.

Our canadian phone is not really different from all the other ones, so you don't need a special "Bell Canada" installation.
If you want JVH, you can follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
You don't have to do everything like fugumod, etc. I would flash JVH via odin and then flash CF root kernel via odin so you get CWM3.
There's also leaked 2.3.4 JVP gingerbread out, if you feel inclined:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
There's a way to enable 850 band on the different gingerbread modems, but i never bothered, I just flashed the KC1 modem for Bell which has the band (via CWM3). Search for I9000UGKC1

Okay I am really starting to freak out now...
I am stuck in bootloop, I can't get out og it. I tried flash Back the Stock Bell Firmware but it keeps boot looping. Download mode is okay. But it started doing this I had a message like sd could not be mounted in recovery 3e. Now I can't even access recovery after I flash Eclair but Download mode is still okay...
Aby ideas ?
Have you tried flashing back the stock JL2 firmware from bell? (found on samfirmware.com)
I've never encountered this error before, I wonder if it is a problem with the bootloaders, as the official froyo firmware from bell had a secondary bootloader and gingerbread has its own bootloaders as well.

I imagine you'll need the stock bell firmware as said above and also the proper PIT file to go along with it.

Also if you repartitioned it when you tried to flash the whatever it was when you tried you will also have to repartition it when going back down to froyo.
2.2 and 2.3 use different bootloaders therefore if you try to mix and match rom's without the bootloaders and repartioning you will get a ****y phone.

Thanks for your help guys. I didn't solve it yet, but i will open a new thread to prevent this one from getting to messy.

[Q] Recovery broken, can't flash any ZIP (CWM also)

So, that's a long story, but a few days ago I tried do flash one more time the CM11. It gave me an error like written below. I used the CWM 6.0.5.3 that supports MTD (flashed it with Odin - .tar.md5), all beautiful, but that's not about it.
When I returned to stock and tried to flash the CWM5 through native recovery and even flashed CWM6 (6.0.5.3) through Odin, it gave me the following error (in both cases, native recovery with every ZIP I tried to flash and CWM also):
"Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installation <something>
Installation aborted."
After this manipulations, I can't even obtain root access on my phone and I have 3 apps installed, because it's out of memory. I heard that it could be because the file system remained in MTD and it is not compatible, but, if it's like this, how can I return to YAFFS2?
It does not install any ZIP, so I can flash nothing. Nor custom firmwares, nor other fixes (like root) and CWM also.
Please, help!

Simply flash stock rom via odin - this will convert your file system back to rfs for use with stock based roms (cm roms use ext file system)
You can then root the phone and flash a temp cwm or a kernel of your choice for stock based roms with cwm built in
stock rom firmware is found on my firmware thread - Links either in signature or top of firmware thread
Tried it already on a lot if version (XXKI6, XXLK3 and another ones), not working, but I'll try one more time today.

make sure you are using the firmware from my thread (the ones you have quoted are old firmwares) - they are wipe packs and will format your system when flashing
I would use this one if you are in Europe

Thx, I'll try it

Then there is either a problem with the way you are flashing it or you flashed wrong files on your phone in the past and you may need to include the pit file with the rest of the firmware - you can find the pit file for galaxy y 5360 with an easy google search - there is an xda thread with it
All firmware on my thread is confirmed working and the Europe one I have used myself - So if using the pit file doesn't work along with the firmware file then I would take it to a repair shop

you flash it all at the same time
PIT and your wipe firmware flashed at the same time haven't fixed it, the FS is broken. Any other ways or I have to prepare money for the service center?
try to format all partition ( data+system+cache ) and flash a stock rom
