[Q] vibrant bricked i think?? - Vibrant General

so i crashed my phone today.. basically my phone was rooted and i install everything you would need flashed the phone with obsidian 4.2 or whatever... heres where i think i went wrong ( im not super techy but smart enough to get this far) .. the flash was awesome running super fast... i got greedy and i decided i wan'ted to do the voodoo lag fix to see how much faster it would be.. i was reading tuitorial on how to do it.. it said to flash the phone with the davlchik cache and scirpts download did that.... backed up phone with clock mod rec. flashed the phone with voodoo linda was giving the prompts it was done... and i got the vibrant screen only thing i can come up with was my phone was being glitchy and didn't download the whole file for the scripts.. and didn't really install i thought i covered my basis.. now heres the real problem when i volume button/power button the phone into recovery and went to restore the phone the phone completed the system recovery but when in data recovery it froze at pcsync_stream??? what do i do now can i load a rom on the sd card? and flash it?

You will probably have to ODIN back to stock.

Stuck After Boot

Hey guys i know "Help!" threads get annoying (at least in the Fascinate forum they do.) but i could really use some help.
Rooted my friends phone today (root, clockwork, rom manager), and was going to install regular JAC kernal /voodoo w/o color fix.. I made sure the phone had the smaller NAND chip. Installation went fine (phone booted, voice told me it was switching to ext. 4.) and the voice said voodoo was complete. The phone was stuck at the S logo for about an hour and it was then i decided voodoo was botched. From there i rebooted to clockwork and went to restore the nandroid i made when i rooted. The nandroid got stock at one of the Data files for about 30 minutes. (i have a feeling this is around where i messed things up myself) Decided screw it and was going to flash JI6(T959UVJI6) and the stock kernal with ODIN. Now the phone boots past the S logo but the screen stays black and only the backlight menu buttons light up. It wont go past there. Any quick help is appreciated.
You didn't disable the lagfix I'm assuming.
Odin Eugene's Froyo that doesn't brick, then Odin JFD, install ROM of you're choosing.
Did you even try to search for a fix before posting???

If you can still boot into clockwork recov. you can save it by pushing the undo voodoo zip file that was mentioned about. Assuming that u have adb access. If not odin froyo that doesnt brick tepartition checked. Turn off. Boot back in download. Odin stock jdf. Ji6 isnt a standalone rom. Its more like a no wipe update. Lucky his vibrant wasnt hardware locked lol. He will have a 90% chance of losing EVERYTHING
Had to odin flash froyo that doesnt brick then jfd and yep he lost all his data but he didnt have much to begin with. Now happily running Fusion. Thanks for the help guys!

Not bricked ... but not good . help?

Hey guys , im not exactly a noob to modding ,flashing, etc. But i have a situation here. I was runningthe new Zinc Rom with Voodoo from Rom Manager. Everything was GREAT , but for some stupid reason i tried flashing the stupidfast kernal also from rom manager. I came from a droid X and we didnt have all these kernal flashes . So in that sense , i am a noob .
Anyhoo, after "flashing" the kernal i booted back up fine and dandy , but it was FC central . "The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again".
I have been reading the how to remove voodoo thread , but getting lost in all the posts and not even sure if thats what i need to be doing now .
used Odin to restore and everything works just fine...except for that FC over and over . Phone calls , Txts , everything . I just have a 2 second window to click what i want before the FC comes up again.
Can someone please assist? I hate to ask such a thing , but im grasping at straws here and have work tomorrow . Thanks guys . So much .
Hehe... similar problem here.
Mine was blackhole rom, but it's FCing over and over.
Did you guys disable voodoo before flashing the other kernels?

nope, im an idiot (not being sarcastic) . I knew i was supposed to and everything and just forgot. Is there any hope?
You may want to wait for a second opinion, but you'll probably need to do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804784
yeah , thats what i have neem looking at. however , i cant boot into CWM i have the files and everything on my card , i just cant get there to do anything . whenever i try getting rom manager from the marketplace now (which is tedious now because of all the FCs) It tells me i have no room to install the app
Try getting into Clockwork Recovery by doing step 5 in the first post of the thread linked below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807088
I couldn't get to adb to begin with so I just went with it
I'll try and see what happens.

Power off. Hold down both the volume up + volume down + power to boot into stock recovery. Run update.zip to get to cwm.
And before you get chewed out, questions and problems should be directed to the general section, not dev.
Thanks for the heads up , ill repost over there. update.zip gives me an error btw. Im really needing this fixed . Like $50 bucks to your paypal or something haha seriously .
Hi there i did the same thing you did install that stupidfast kernal and got screwed and forgot to disable voodoo. so i used odin and did a complete restore back to stock. Everything worked great but fc everytime. So what i did is that i have all my clockwordmod backup files saved on my pc. I have put the backup file in the sd card in the clockwordmod backup folder, then i booted up the phone to the clockwordmod recovery that restored the backup that you save before you install the stupidfast kernal lolz i hope that helpz.
might have fixed it....
I hope you all fixed your phones somehow.
For future reference, this is the thread from AndroidCentral that I followed.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/38029-how-escape-force-close-loop-hell.html
I had this EXACT same problem but i finally fixed it last night.
What i did was first i restored with odin files. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204
Next i flashed clockwork recovery. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
Then Boot into clockwork recovery with the usb unplugged. hold the up volume key and then plug the phone into the usb. Then u should be able to adb push the voodoo uninstaller found here to your sd card and flash it through clockwork.
After that u should be all good. Just restore with nandroid and should be as good as new.
But yea after that i do suggest trying to stupid fast kernal because voodoo will be completely gone for sure... and it seriously is stupid fast...

[Q] Rooted Vibrant turning on and off

I just had my phone rooted on tuesday by a friend. It started turning itself off for the first few hours and went back to normal for a day. Last night it started turning itself on and off every minute. I know nothing about phones, can anyone help me?
How did your friend root?
Did they delete system apps?
Did they apply lag fixes?
Perhaps just flash a custom rom. Their better than stock and should fix your issue. I hope they didn't do a lag fix. Disable it if they did.
He did something like holding the power button/volume up/down to get into download mode? That's all i know. He said he didn't remove any of the system apps, or change anything. He added a wifi-tethering for me, that's why he rooted it. I know nothing about phones and computers. I'm out of town for another week so i can't have him fix it, but i need to do something so i can use my phone. Any suggestions?
oh ya, he used ODIN if i remember right
I don't know why he would be using Odin if all he was doing was rooting the phone. Can you get to the web to DL anything? I would try flashing something with clockwork till you can re-flash to stock with Odin. You need to find out what exactly your friend did when he worked on your phone.
Can you adb? I would like to see the log.

my phone wont stay on long enough to do anything. When i push the power/up/down buttons at the same time i get a picture of a droid and it says power reset or unknown upload mode
whats adb? I'm a preschooler when it comes to anything computer/phone related
I was getting panic mode/upload when I was messing with eugenes kernals.

As was I, and that's the only time I've seen that screen.
OP, you're friend definitely did more than simply root your phone. Especially if you say he used Odin? There's no reason to use Odin to gain root.
I would recommend you Odin back to stock and start fresh.
is there any way i can do it without Odin? I'm out of town for a week and need my phone
Rom manager / clockworkmod. Just go to the app store (it's free) and download it. Flash the recovery and flash back to stock 2.1 eclair. It should fix it then when you get home just use the one click root method to root your phone. Check the vibrant bible in android dev. to do it, it's really easy to do yourself since it is literally, one click ^_^ Also for the rom of 2.1 I also recommend going to the vibrant bible for that as well. All you have to do is dl rom manager, put the 2.1 rom on the root of your sd (not external sd) then go into rom manager and install custom rom (pick the stock 2.1). It will wipe your data but your phone should be fixed and you can always dl back your apps and import contacts through your gmail account. Hope this helps.

that's eugene's stock 2.1 for vibrant flashable through clockworkmod ^_^

Locked up my Fascinate--please help

I'm a relative newbie and not very tech-oriented, and I appear to have screwed up big time. I'd appreciate any help that can be offered. To cut to the chase, when I attempt to boot up my Fascinate, it gets stuck indefinitely on the Samsung logo.
Here's what I did to screw it up. I rooted my phone when I first got it last year and did a lagfix. It unrooted with the update to JD05. Yesterday I attempted to root it again using two different 1-click methods, neither of which worked. I then followed the instructions in the "Modified CWMrecovery for Odin" thread, not having it work until finally succeeding in getting root using CWM Red. The phone rebooted and was rooted, and everything seemed fine, so I used Rom Manager to Boot to Recovery. This did something strange--it took 15 minutes to get to the recovery screen, with a digital voice periodically telling me how much longer it would take. When I got to the recovery screen the first thing I did was to perform a backup. I think this effort to be safe did me in, because the phone must have already been screwed up then and I think I backed up the screw-up.
I then attempted to reboot and since then all efforts get me stuck on the Samsung logo. I've tried almost all options from the Recovery screen: reboot system now, apply sdcard update.zip, wipe date/factory reset, wipe cache partition, install zip from ascard, and restore. All bring the same locked up phone.
I'd appreciate any ideas to bring my Fascinate back to life!
First off the only way to get to red CWM is to install a voodoo 5 kernel. I'm thinking the voodoo kernel and the one click lag fix don't play well together. I'm sure someone else will step in with more info however I would start by looking for a thred called how to completely remove voodoo. Then try odin to restore. Good luck.
Edit. I read your post again and not sure if u did one click lag fix or just an older voodoo kernel. Either way same result u have to disable voodoo 4 and one click to install voodoo 5. Odin it. The voice u hear was the voodoo kernel converting your system to ext4 if this was the first time you've heard this I think your first lag fix may have been the one click.

Yes this happed to me too. If i take it to the Verizon store will they know my phone is rooted and moded? i need help ASAP
Search the forums on how to properly removed the voodoo lag fix. Then you need to reflash dj05. Voodoo doesn't really do much except for show you a higher quadrant score and limit to what roms/themes you can install. Same thing happened to me. Just do a quick search, I think its in the development section. The easiest way to remove it is with and. Hope this is somewhat helpful.
so fresh and so superclean.
Don't bring it to verizon because you would be defrauding them for your mistake. see if you can access your sd card through the computer and put either a file or folder in the voodoo folder called disable_lagfix and try booting again. If that doesn't help (it is probably too late for that) then you need to flash back to stock through odin. find the thread in development on how to do that. Good luck. Your phone is not broken. Breathe.

Here is the ODIN back to stock if you don't want to bother with removing Voodoo. That should fix your phone with or without Voodoo. It's always worked for me.
THANKS SO MUCH its back to normal i cant thank you enough
Many thanks for all of the help.

Problem after installing the wrong Voodoo version

My brother and I both have a Vibrant. He broke his so I loaned him mine for a week. While he had mine (which I've upgraded to 2.2), he installed Android 2.1 Voodoo 4 on it. Little to say, after rebooting, the phone wasn't booting past the boot screen.
I've now followed some instructions from the forum, and have reflashed my phone with Eugene's non-bricking ROM through Odin. The phone boots up just fine now. However, I am trying to install ROM Manager on the phone, so I can reflash my recovery ROM (non Voodoo) - and the Android market tells me it can't install the app due to not having enough free space - though I have over 1GB.
I am guessing this is because the internal disk is still setup in the Voodoo file system, and just enough space was repartitioned for the OS to go back on.
Can anyone help me restore my phone?
EDIT: I've also tried flashing a different recovery ROM through ODIN (with repartition), which also wouldn't let me get past the bootup screen.
I'm taking a wild guess here, I seriously don't know, but did you click repartition in Odin? I think that's would work, but like I said, I'm not completely sure.
I didn't repartition for the Eugene rom fix (as per the instruction I read), but did when I tried to load another version ontop of that.
I was in the Voodoo chatroom, and was able to get some help. It sounds like I need to download a stock ROM and then reset my file partition to get rid of the EXT4 partition, and reset it all to the default.
I have Eugene's "non bricking" rom, but I don't think that's what I need. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I need and how to do this?
Just search for the stock Odin images and flash back. They should be in a sticky. I would repartition as well.
I am trying to find a stock version I can ODIN flash. Do you know where I can get one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848737
I've gone through ODIN, done a reflash to the stock firmware, and repartitioned the phone as well.
Now, when I boot the phone up, I get the T-Mobile screen and the Galaxy S screen, and then the phone goes black (with no lights on) and doesn't go any further. My phone has been sitting on the desk like this for 20 minutes now.
I am wondering if this is like when moving to Voodoo, it takes a while to change the format to EXT4, is the phone having to go back to the default?
I 1am into the same problem with the old voodoo. What you'll need to do is flash back to stock via odin. Ur apps memory will be real low. Flash an old 2.1 voodoo. Let it do its thing once booted put a disable voodoo file into the folder and reboot. It will be ok after that. Hope that makes sense.
