Android mms fix - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

so I have seen threads upon threads of people asking how to get mms to work on the HD2 with android on it.
I have a few solutions. The first one a Tmobile rep gave me the info for.
In your apn settings for server it's empty but if you add internet2.voicestream.com save the changes and go back to the previous screen go to network operators than go register on the tmobile network you will notice lightning fast picture messaging.
Another thing is what your using to text with. I use Handcent SMS as I look the look and options. It's good for setting custom text tones putting pictures to the person who's texting you it's a threaded text style and ontop of that it's free! In the settings for Handcent there it has options to recieve messages up to 5 mb. This also works for sending. I noticed when I went from 300 kb from the default at the time to 2 mb it expanded my capability for recieiving picture messages.
Try these out. Hopefully people will get good use out of these two techniques and I hope it helps many people.
Maybe even good enough to sticky as it is a big question and big issue to new flashers.

No go for me on tmobile us on mccm 1.6 with hastarins newest kernel

are you using ppp or rmnet?

HTC Home plugin + MMS

I wasn't sure if there was something covering a fix for this issue...
If you install the 5 tab HTC Home and you have the MMS app installed, the email button on the Home sends you the MMS regardless of what you do.
If you have the 3 tab version however, it will bring you to the selection screen of messaging (if you have it set to Display account picker).
If anyone knows of a fix or has a fix for this issue, I would love to find out I would like to use the 5 tab version, but this annoys me too much to keep it. I have looked around in the HTC Home section of the registry and didn't see anything that stood out for that option.
Does anyone know where I can get ArcSoft's MMS Composer v. 4.0 cab file? It is really much improved. I've tried it on my TyTN. It combines SMS and MMS in one and checks one's address book for the appropriate phone numbers when MMSing.
I check ArcSoft's site and could not find it.
At one point it was floating around at ppcgeeks, but it would not work. It was sending additional information when trying to send a message. The Sprint server was rejecting everything that was coming from the v.4 app. None of the registry settings that were modified seemed to of fixed it.
I've just seen that the 6 tab is finally out, so we'll have to throw that one in as well.
I haven't tried the 6-tab version... does it have the same results as the 5-tab?

I'd sure like to try it anyway. I have tried a v 3.0+ which was made for the Apache. It worked well but it wasn't perfect. It would give you the option of sending some kind of pic message that Verizon uses but Sprint doesn't. When the MMS option was chosen, it worked great. I tried to post this .cab file, but this site wouldn't let me.
Adding another email account worked for me
I just added my yahoo email account, and when I tap on the mail icon, it now brings me to the screen giving me the choice to choose Text Message, MMS, Outlook Email, & now my Yahoo email (not exactly in that order).
Thanks for the fix as this was killing me.
Still a problem?
I have the 6-tab version and have this same issue. One icon opens text messages and the other MMS messages. Is there any way to change these to open the email? MMS is useless to me.

I have the same problem. Anyone know what is causing this? It used to work fine until I flashed to 6.1 not long ago and had to reinstall

T-Mobile MMS size limits?

I've recently noticed that not many people have been getting my MMSes, and today I did some tests to figure out what was happening.
It seems like pictures sent from the Nexus One using the stock messaging app has the size cap at around 1MB. From some research, T-Mobile USA seems to cap their MMSes at 300KB. Pictures taken with the Nexus One's camera using the highest settings varies from 700KB to a little over 1MB.
When I send a 700KB picture to someone, the messaging app doesn't do any resizing or compression; it'll just send it as it is and the recipient will never get it. When I try sending the larger ones that are more than 1MB, the app will resize and/or compress to about 800KB, and as expected, the recipient won't get that either. I've even tried sending these larger MMS to my email to rule out any device/service incompatibilities on the other end, but those don't go through either.
Sending something tiny, like a 7KB or 100KB picture works just fine, which sort of verifies that there's a cap.
Well, my question is, is there a way to adjust the cap in the messaging app? I don't see any options anywhere, so I kind of doubt it. I don't really want to use a 3rd party app; I think you can set the max size in ChompSMS.
Some providers resize pictures as they're travelling across the network, simply because a lot of phones have small displays/memory and can't handle something that big. You have to tell them you're using a phone that can handle it (eg. N95 or iphone) so they stop doing it.
If Tmobile are dropping the pictures entirely then that's something for them to sort out... I'm surprised they would do that.
I just finished speaking to HTC and T-Mobile. T-Mobile confirmed that MMSes are capped at 300KB, and HTC told there's no way to change the maximum in the messaging app. All they could tell me was to take pictures at a lower resolution, which wasn't the answer I was looking for... Hopefully, when the source comes out, there will be a way to add the option in there.
I'm kind of surprised no one else has run into this issue before.
:/ well, that blows. i was a little whizzed at sprint for capping at 500kb.
your option could be get on wifi, send through email to their phone (e.g. [email protected])
common addresses
I'm using handcent sms on tmobile and handcent always resizes my images when i attach them to a message. i tried the normal messaging app and when i try to attach a picture it says "compressing image". For me handcent sms is great and definitely better than the stock app.
I took your guys' thoughts into consideration, but still ran into problems.
Sending a text using email to a T-Mobile number (##########@tmomail.net) with an attachment larger than 300KB will result in the the picture never reaching the recipient. I can't say that this won't work for any of the other carriers though.
Handcent Sms does indeed resize the picture enough to send, but it converted my 800KB picture down to 14KB. It's a little too aggressive with the conversion for my taste.
I'm just hoping that it will be a relatively easy to implement a way of changing the 1MB max size on the messaging app when the source comes out.
If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

Did the 14Kb figure come from the MMS when it was received or did you check it on the phone after it was sent? I'm on O2 in the UK and they seriously butcher any MMS being sent to the Android, if I send a picture to myself its immediately obvious looking in the conversation view that what I've sent and what I've received are not the same.
I too have been having this problem. I would like to stick with the stock messaging app as well. I am sure there will be an update for this I just hope it's soon.

I checked on both ends. This was with Handcent though, remember. When you send, it's added to the thread where you can check the file sized of the picture. I sent it to myself to my email via MMS, and it was 14Kb on that end too.
On the other hand, if I send something < 300Kb, the picture stays intact on the receiving end. I don't think T-Mobile does any processing of the MMSes in any way.
I too, have been having problems with MMS, just as you stated.
FWIW, my observations:
-Android on VZW can receive my MMS, but I get a 1kb file with nothing in it when he sends me an MMS.
-When iPhone on ATT sends me an MMS, it comes through, but when I send him an MMS, he never gets it. Strangely, when my other friend with a G1 sends him an MMS, it doesn't come through.
-Within Tmo, MMS is fine.
I don't know anyone dumb enough to use Sprint, so I can't check on that.
-I sent a photo from my Gmail app to myself, and it came out perfectly fine. 731k on both sides.
Would be nice to have an app that automatically resizes photos to the 300kb Tmo limit.
Hmm... That's weird, I can't send anything larger than 300Kb to myself or my brother who has a G1. I thought I had this figured out, but now I don't know what's going on anymore
I just checked on my phone, sending via tmo to att...one went through, but two others didnt. i may have to switch to handcent or chompsms.

[Q] 3.14 ROM and SMS lag..dear god say its fixed.

I don't see a thread about this..please someone tell me we can have more than 25 texts in a 'conversation' and not sit for 30 seconds or more waiting for that little scroll bar to shrink so we can actually type in a text message.
Most of my friends have 500+ texts now and I have to revert to manually keying in their name and craeting a 'fresh' message every time I respond to them.
of course after I flash that history will be gone..but I really want to believe they've fixed this R I D I C U L O U S bug once and for all.

Well even if it doesnt, try using something like PIMBackup to backup all your messages, then clear them out. thats what i've resorted to doing on a weekly basis. I am hoping at some point this problem is fixed and then i can merge all those weekly backups and restore them into the messaging app. but until then i still have an archive of them
I've asked this question in a few of the other threads about the 3.14 ROM & it seems to still be there.
I doubt it'll change unless HTC rewrites the program to only show the last 10 of each persons texts instead of all of them
I've been running the leaked 3.14 and have noticed no sms lag. The whole ROM runs so much smoother. Battery life is better as well, but then that could be my battery being broken in too.
Overall it's worth it to switch over. I've been very happy with it.

sorry to hijack my own thread, but is there a screenshot of this sms app? i've been looking to replace the htc sense sms app (reason i started this thread) into something that looks more like the iphone 'bubble thought' thread IM conversation.
but for some reason..i'm having a super hard time finding screenshots of the app in your SIG...there's lots of screnshots of the config screen..but not the UI for the mms and sms conversation itself.
is it worth the hassle to swap sms/mms clients? i like sense..but i don't like having to jump through hurdles (like manually keying in the person's name each time) to sms people.
THanks!
It's the older WM SMS app that was before Manila 2.5. If you've ever had a Touch Pro 2, Kaiser/Tilt, MDA/Wizard it's the SMS app that's on that. Its actually the program that your email is in too.
To switch is easy: install the Disable HTC Messaging cab on my post & also the Arcsoft one for MMS. You'll have to configure the Arcsoft client for your MMS server settings. If you have the TMOUS HD2 then just install both of the other cabs on there for MMS profile & settings & you'll be good to go. To test, just send yourself an MMS
It seems to me that the messaging app's lag problem MIGHT be fixed. when i was on 2.13 with around 400msgs in the database it was lagging a lot, I backed everything up with PIMbackup before i updated the firmware. Upon restoring the backup with all the messages, there is almost no lag now. Maybe a real quick stutter when a message comes in vs the nearly 5-10 seconds that my phone would completely freeze up and be unusable before
This could also quite possibly be because the message database is nice and clean now. We'll see what happens with time.

Split MMS ?

I've tried searching around and I haven't found a solution yet for getting Split MMS on either apps, whether it be stock MMS, or sliding messaging.
As title states, I can't get split MMS. It only works as one big message, but when I had my old device (d2usc) it could split messages very easily on either app. It was a CDMA variant but I doubt that matters, or does it?
All I'm looking for in this thread is for someone to share a way to get Split MMS to work on Sliding Messaging, I don't really use or care for MMS to be honest. I enabled it in both of the apps' settings, but no luck. Advice?

iPhone MMS not appearing on Messages but they show fine on Google Hangouts... WTH?!?

This one has me scratching my head looking for answers. I noticed this problem a while ago where my friends MMS sent from iPhones were not appearing on my Messages, I have the option for "fetch MMS automatically" and all I get is the little cloud but its blank, it only shows the time it was received, I've also tried disabling the fetch MMS automatically and even when downloading them it shows me the blank cloud. The doozy comes when I tried using Hangouts just to see what it was and to my surprise I could see all my SMS and MMS conversations from my contacts and all the pictures from the iPhone contacts were shown via Hangouts but they do not show on the stock Messages app.
Things I've tried:
1) Googling for answers only resulted in fanboyism comments and speculations that led to more fanboyism.
2) At first I tried contacting my carrier and they made me reset the APN settings to default, which I did and it was after that that I realized that it was only the iPhone MMS messages that weren't being received.
3) Tried disabling the Hangouts services via the Apps option on the settings menu. Restarted phone and still wouldn't work.
4) Been restarting my phone with each setting I change to see if it helps but no.
5) Been bugging my friends to send me MMS from their iPhones and one did get through but nothing more after that.
6) Made sure their iPhones had the setting of "Send MMS when iChat isn't available" enabled.
7) Made sure my old iPhone account was signed out of my old iPhone 4 so I wasn't receiving anymore iMessages.
I'm speculating that I either need to call my carrier again which is Claro PR and explain the situation to see if it helps, or maybe go to a store. Also, I've been thinking about Rooting my phone so I can uninstall some of the bloat, which included Hangouts but don't want to go down that path yet and I don't know if it would really help anything since I already tried disabling the service via the Apps options.
Please help me figure this out, I love this phone but this thing is bugging the hell out of me.
I have had problems with mms on hangouts and the stock app on Sprint doesn't support group mms. I have been using Go sms pro and everything works fine, including iPhone mms messages.
Hope that helps.

Hmm... interesting a replacement messaging app, I would definitely keep this in mind so thanks a lot for the suggestion. I rather use the stock apps while I'm getting used to the phone since this is my first Android device but will definitely use this if resetting to factory defaults doesn't help my problem.
*Edit*
Any other suggestions for my problem are welcomed.
LG didn't enable MMS group messaging on stock messages. My HTC One and S4 had the option in settings to enable it...LG left it out. If you haven't heard, TEXTRA is one of the best, fastest, light weight messaging apps that can handle iPhone group messages without the bloat on go sms and handcent. Look it up on the playstore...ratings are great and all my Android friends use it now. I've yet ran into any issues with group texting.

Hi and thanks for the reply, I've looked up Textra and seems like a nice alternative and has a very clean interface, I'm currently using Hangouts from Google without a problem but would have preferred the stock message app. It's weird because I went to my carrier and they did some test and everything was fine, turns out its only MMS sent from iPhones that won't show through the Message app from G2. Maybe I should try emailing them to see if I can get some answers?
Yea only the Verizon variant supports group messages. I posted a thread about this in the Themes and Apps forum. Could be the cause.
All my friends group text me all the time and send MMS using the Verizon version Messaging app and hangouts. The stock messaging app world best though.
