Hey guys!
Got my self an AT&T Samsung Focus.
Had it unlocked and have it running on Fido network (Canada)
Have a problem with SMS time stamp.
It's off by 5 hours. If it's 5pm here, the time stamp will show 12pm.
I checked my time setting and I entered them in manually, but still im experiencing this issue. BTW is have it set to -05 EST.
Anyone know what can be done?
Thanks

Hi all,
Today i finally got my Blackstone and have configuring to use with my next work. I think I got everything configured except for a strange issue with text messages. When I receive a message, it shows the received time as 5 hours off. I have checked the regional settings, it is showing correct time, I am in eastern time zone, is there something else I should be checking?
Thanks in advance.

i believe you are on FIDO network . it's not your problem.
is your text message from another time zone?
LOL, being on Fido network will cause this?? Actually I am on Rogers, but they are both owned by the same company anyway...
The text message was from another Rogers customer in the same time zone.
try getting sms from a few networks first . i think its the network problem most of the time
Ok, time to wake up some people then....
Found work around
I think I found a work around. I am not sure if this is the right way or not. I set the time zone to London GMT with Eastern STD date and time and it seems to be doing the trick for now.
I had the same problem as you and I'm also on rogers. This seemed to fix it for me.

That did it, thank you very much. I needed to install the cab file and then do a soft reset. It's working as it should now though, thanks again.

yep, there you go, never trust cell tower's time zone, who knows where your text message went before reaching your nearest tower.
Heh

Hahahaha oh great, like if I wasn't paranoid enough about the damn phone companies, you had to mention this More fuel for my paranoia!!
Will this cure the problem in getting sms from a different time zone and it not displaying the time difference?
My Trinity used to do this perfectly but on the Touch all messages from CZ come through as my local time

I don't know if this will help in your case, cause in my case my text messages were showing London time zone.
Good day to you all.
I have purchased the x1i for sometime now and I ran into my first snag. My job requires me to travel a lot around North America. So I find it handy when I can change time zones with my Xperia.
My problem is I tried to change the time zone Saint John's located in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Where its suppose to be GMT -3:30 hours but I'm getting GMT -5 hours.
Is there a way I can fix this in my registry?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, that happens to me all the time. It fixes itself over time. I never did anything about it.
Interesting!
I wonder if I upgrade my ROM if that will solve the problem?
I think the original programmer's mistake was to confuse St. John vs. St. John's.
How did your phone fix itself?
Anyone else care to help out?
i think there's a feature that the phone can change its time via network operator.
Hey guys,
I just recently bought my TD2 just over the weekend...and when receiving text msgs from my friends, there's this 4 hour difference in the time stamp. For example, I'll send a text msg at 10pm, and when I receive a text msg five minutes later, the time stamp will be 6:05pm.
Would anyone know what the issue would be? Cause I'm really stumped by this. I even sent text msgs to myself from my phone carrier's website and it's the same thing, the time stamp is 4 hours behind what it actually is..
Any suggestions or ideas is greatly appreciated. =)
I'm fairly sure the time stamp for incoming text messages is dependent on the time your service provider says it was sent, not the time your phone actually receives it. So if your network provider is based in a city with a different time zone your incoming text messages will be time stamped at the time the message was sent in said time zone, not your own.
I'm not sure if there are any settings to change this as I haven't really looked in to it a great deal. It's just kind of annoying and can make conversation threads kind of pointless.
my network provider is based in the same city as me, so there shouldn't be any discrepancy in terms of time zone.
I'm starting to think it's a WM6.1 bug or something like that. I've tried hard resetting it but it doesn't work. I've also tried putting in a different sim card from a different network provider and the issue is still there.
so..im stumped even more...
you could send a notification to HTC. I've been reading these forums for some time now and I haven't encountered anyone with the same problem. Or, then again, I might be mistaken ...
4 hours does seem a bit extreme. Do you have any friends on the same network as you? Can you check the time stamp on a message that you've sent to their phone to see if it shows the correct time?
I only say it's network dependent because I know that when my country has daylight savings time the timestamps for all of my messages get messed up, but when daylight savings time is over it's fine.
It depends on the service provider.
Some service provider use the time the msg is pushed to your phone, while others use the time when the message is sent. So, if your sender is in a different time zone, there may be a time difference.
I've checked with friends that are on the same service provider. The text msgs i send them have the correct time.
I even send myself a text msg to see and it'll be the same thing again. sending it to myself is just as mind boggling cause i receive my own msg right away, and time stamp is 4 hours behind still. -_-;;;
Did u set any "Visiting Time"? I never encountered this since I bought my TD2 last month. Guess it could be related to service provider?

No, I believe you can only set either Home or Visiting Time...
I flashed my phone with cooked roms hoping that bring it to WM6.5 would fixed the issue, but it hasn't worked...
Is your problem solved yet? I've the same problem and I've done everything nothing works, I guess i've to live with it. Mine shows 40 mins difference which is very annoying.
no luck at all.
I just played around with the time zone settings. i just put the time zone setting to est-1 since it's est -5 where i am. and then i just brought the time back 4 hours and it matched...but aside from that..nope..nothing.
Hey I was just wondering if theres a way to fix the Time Stamps on conversations?
When I send and SMS it's the correct time, but when I get a response the times shows 4 hour difference...
I've DST fix but it didn't work (maybe I used the wrong one)
Any help? Thanks
Yes how can fix it?

Most likely carrier related to where their centre of their universe is. Here in Canada if you are on Robbers (Rogers) or Mobilicity you will see Toronto's time which is EST or EDT depending on the time of the year and the same goes for detailed billing at least with Robbers.
hi
Have any of you guys experienced that the automatic time setting (the time the actual network sending) doesn't work?
I set mine to automatic so that i didn't have to do anything regarding setting the local time and dates..
The reason why i'm asking is that sitting here 1hour before i actually had to get up hence it did not register the network time
Can anyone check or confirm?
-TB-
I noticed that time and date were set, but time zone was 2 hours off. Had to set it manually...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I had the exact same problem (GT-i9000 SIM unlocked, on vodafone UK), I waited a few hours and the time was still saying it was hours ahead and in tomorrow (!!)
I ended up setting the time manually then re-selecting the network option. Not sure if that will help keep good time or not .... so far so good.

But for now i haven't ticked the network time.. Ill let you guys know what happens

yeah same problem finally had to set it manually, shame. Why did I sell my black desire for this piece of trash!
Thankfully i didn't buy it on contract otherwise would have been lumbered with this crap for 18 months.
Strange mine works fine on Vodafone UK. Just won't display the phone number, Wonder if its because I ported from orange

Seems to me that the initial release of this phone has been quite buggy. I'm still on the shipped firmware (JF3), though might go for a MoDaCo kitchen cooked ROM at some point.
Previously I had a Nexus One and that took time from the network fine.
Same thing happend to me. When I started the phone for the first time, it didn't update the network time at all. after some time it came, but it's very various when it works or not.
